the sound of the dorm door swinging opened caused yun to twist her body around, watching her roommate strut in more aggressively than usual. not only did the slight heavy breathing give it away, but the stressful aura was practically radiating off of her body.

with a frown, yun waited for her to sit down before she spoke. "you okay?"

danbi still didn't make eye contact as she chucked a small decorated blue bag onto yuns bed. "i got you some hair products from the salon." the tone in her voice too obviously more sorrowful than it ever was, a big change from her usual upbeat self.

"oh! cool! thanks," the girl replied, not taking her eyes off of her friend, "dude seriously, are you okay?"

she almost got nervous as she watched danbi sit down with a small sigh and wipe her moist palms over her jeans. neither of them said a word for a moment before she finally looked up to yun. "i'm not gonna lie... i'm a little angry right now. i'm actually really angry but i'm trying to convince myself i'm not."

knowing her friend hardly got upset, was never one to get genuinely mad even over things she should absolutely be upset over, yun tilted her head in further confusion. "why...?"

"i just went to rens dorm to give her the same thing i gave you after work," she started, referring to the small bag, "and when she opened the door guess who was there?"

"who?" the other replied with zero hesitance.

"jiho."

the sound of her name almost making yun vomit in her mouth, her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. "what?! are you serious?"

"i'm so serious, she obviously was not even considering the fact that i would show up because she was just there, right next to ren, all comfortable and whatever," danbi was visibly angry, her tone becoming more aggressive as she spoke, her hands flailing around with every sentence, "i couldn't even say anything i was so pissed!"

"what did you do?"

"i literally just stared at them and left, i didn't even give her her bag." danbi sighed, sinking further into her bed.

the two sat in silence for a moment, danbi still processing what she saw and yun still processing what she just heard. they were reasonably upset, having warned their friend countless times to never go back to her toxic ex, and yet something inside them wasn't that surprised.

"well," yun huffed, "that makes me a little mad, we obviously can't control what she does but i don't know, i'm getting the feeling this isn't gonna have a happy ending."

"no, i know it's not going to because we already know jiho treated her like shit, i mean—i know she's my friend but for fucks sake i can't watch ren go through that again. jiho has never changed for her no matter how many times she's said she has."

yun nodded, waiting for danbis passionate rant to end before she hummed in agreement. "nah, you're right. do you think it'll be awkward with us at chenles party tonight?"

"i don't even know. i'm not mad at her, i'm just really disappointed with the decisions she makes."

the pair soon decided not to worry all that much for the day, considering their good friends party was the same night and they didn't want to ruin his birthday by making the aura awkward. they hadn't received a single text from ren, assuming she knew her friends were possibly upset at her and was going to spew out apologies in person when they saw her later.

and they were right.

they met outside the dorms, already agreeing prior that they'd show up together as three in danbis car. she and yun held blank expressions as they watched the third of the trio walk shamefaced towards them.

"hey..." she said, stopping in front of them, "so... how's it going?"

still, their faces didn't move and neither did their mouths, so when they didn't say anything, ren spoke up again. "okay, i'm really sorry i was keeping it from you guys. i know it's wrong but come on, don't be mad at me, i know what i'm getting myself into and i'll face the consequences if needed. just not my best friends being upset with me."

silence followed again before yun finally spoke up. "i just really don't think it's a good idea, ren. we don't want you to get hurt again."

ren nodded, not knowing what to say next because she knew they were right, and she was possibly making a big mistake. "sorry."

danbi passed the two and went to the other side of her car, getting into the drivers side while the two others followed before the situation could get anymore uncomfortable than it already was. the car ride was mostly silent apart from the faint music playing from the speakers and occasional small talk between the three until they made it to their destination.

as they pulled up to the house they'd be staying in for the night, they could see a few balloons tied to the front, assuming it was so the guests attending wouldn't get lost. that probably wasn't necessary, though, the place was pretty big on it's own and was surrounded by almost nothing.

"okay, chenle has great taste," yun gaped at the place in front of her, unbuckling her seat belt and stepping out.

"oh no we're so late, look at all the cars that are already here." danbi laughed.

the three didn't get much time to walk before jisung suddenly came running out of the house, his light brown hair flopping around over his forehead and his long limbs coming their way. the small grin on his face as he practically flung his himself onto yun, catching her off-guard.

"finally, my god, we're all waiting for you," he huffed dramatically, grabbing onto hers and rens wrists and pulling them inside.

"great! no pressure there!" yun replied sarcastically.

they were only hardly ten minutes late, not even expecting everyone to have been there yet, but there was a room full of people when they went inside. kyong was first to notice the trio, stopping mid-conversation with haechan to walk their way and greet them.

"where's chenle?" danbi asked.

"kitchen, here i'll take your bags," kyong offered politely, the girls thanking her when she brought their bags to where everyone else's were before walking back. "come meet yuanzi!"

the girl pretty much everyone in the friend group were obsessed with, rightfully, engaged in a conversation with mark, flipping her dark hair onto one side before shoving her hand into her pocket. she felt kyong place a gentle hand on her forearm, grabbing her attention. her eyes flickered over to the four of them before they slightly widened in surprise.

"oh shit, hi!" she exclaimed, "i finally meet famous trio, good to meet y'all. mark was just telling me how you guys met, it's really funny honestly."

yun chuckled, looking at mark, "yeah? what you tell her, lee?"

"oh, how you hated us, like a lot? remember that?"

"mhm, and rightfully," the girl teased back, earning a laugh from yuanzi.

"speak for yourself," haechan suddenly joined, slinging an arm around yuns shoulder, "it was instant friendship between us."

mark scoffed, "yeah no, if she hated anyone out of us the most, it was you."

haechan gasped dramatically, removing his arm to playfully smack mark on his chest. yuanzi looked back to yun. "i don't blame you for hating them at first." she teased, whispering so she wouldn't be heard by either two boys bickering next to her.

"she did hate haechan the most at first but got close with him the fastest and somehow convinced her to join their groupchat." ren chimed in.

yun chuckled to herself, remembering exactly the first things they said to each other and how haechan actually didn't convince her, he just added her without awaiting a yes or no. she remembers vividly hanging out with him and jaemin first, and getting to know the rest in the groupchat. she couldn't believe how far it's come since then.

"chenle!" danbi abruptly exclaiming with her head turned, the rest among the small group turning to see the birthday boy walking out of the kitchen. his eyes almost instantly landed on the girl, his face lighting up entirely at the sight of her.

"hey guys," he greeted, approaching the only few people he hadn't seen yet, "you like the place?"

"chenleeeee, happy birthday and yeah it's really nice. too bad this place might be trashed by the end of the night."

jisung eventually strutted back to them after bothering everyone else at the party, danbi and chenle were occupied shooting love darts at each other with their eyes, ren, yun, yuanzi, and mark in a conversation, and haechan and kyong in theirs.

jaemin spotted yun not too long after her arrival and walked towards her, not having to say anything when she noticed him, her heart skipping a beat at the sight of him. while the others engaged in chatter, jaemin leaned down and got close enough to where yun could feel his breath on her ear.

"why didn't you come find me when you got here?" he asked, quite lowly to ensure only she would hear, the deepness of his voice sending shivers down her spine.

yun swallowed, not speaking immediately because she knew she'd be a stuttering mess. it was almost impressive how nervous he made her without even trying. "had to meet the queen herself first."

he pulled away but didn't move his eyes away from her, looking down at her through his long eyelashes and a slight squint of disbelief. "okay, i'll let it slide. jeno was looking for you, too, have you met yeongcheol and yangyang? or sungchan?"

yun shook her head, "nope." then the boy didn't hesitate to gently grab her hand, mindlessly interlocking their fingers and pulling her away to another small friend group among the party. the two were unnoticed as they walked up to the three boys she had yet to meet in person, seeing them talk to both jeno and renjun.

she got introduced to them, feeling shy suddenly around all the new people. she and yangyang teased each other for the others rap skills while yeongcheol and sungchan insisted on a rap battle while they judged.

yun laughed at the interactions before she felt her phone buzzing a few times. she pulled away from the group for a minute to open her phone, seeing an unusual amount of messages from her mother. she hardly texted, let alone so many times at once, yet yun couldn't be bothered with her at the moment. she just wanted to have a good time with friends, so she silenced her phone and slipped it back into her pocket.

assuming, nothing could go wrong.
