yun finished up her business and grabbed her shoes, slipping them on only half way before bolting out the door. she smoothed out her dress, then her hair, then her dress again, before deciding she wasn't actually worried about how she looked and more worried about seeing her parents.

her shoes clicked against the ground onto the pavement as she approached the parking lot, seeing jeno parked right in front of the building to save him the trouble of parking properly. yun opened the door to his car, stepping inside with a huff before closing it back and buckling in her seatbelt.

jeno couldn't help but laugh at her panicked state. "you good?"

"phenomenal."

he laughed again before pressing the gas and driving off, turning up the radio volume just enough so music was faintly playing. yun leaned her elbow against the door, her face in her hand. truth be told she wasn't as nervous as she thought she'd be, mainly because she was high, knowing herself and knowing she wouldn't be able to get through the night sober.

the drive was an entire hour long, and the brunette found herself sleeping basically the entire way through, her head against the window, lightly bumping it every time the road got too rocky. her eyes fluttered open when she felt them slow down, and pull into the parking lot of a fancy looking restaurant.

"we're here!" jeno exclaimed with fake enthusiasm.

yun groaned loudly, still feeling groggy from the nap, unbuckling the seatbelt. the two of them stepped out together, yun checking her hair in the reflection of the car for much longer than she should've been.

"are you stalling?" jeno asked

"no..."

"you're definitely stalling, c'mon, i'll be there to defend you so don't worry too much." the boy promised, urging yun to follow him into the doors of the place.

"don't do that, if anything gets out of hand, don't. my parents hate me enough i don't need yours hating you on my account."

"yun, i literally don't care what they think of me. they're assholes, but they're not as strict as yours, and i couldn't care less if they went as far as disowning me." jeno replied, only half joking.

yun rolled her eyes playfully, not further debating it as she hooked her arm around jenos and the two walked inside together.

the second they walked in they were met with their parents, standing at the door because they'd been waiting. yun had immediately begun feeling small in the presence of her egocentric parents. the four of them seemed immersed in whatever it was they were talking, not noticing the youngests until jeno cleared his throat.

"oh! you're here!" his mother gasped, pulling the boy in by his shoulders and kissing each of his cheeks before pulling away.

yun was hardly paying when her own mother pulled her in, squeezing her tightly and cooing. when she pulled away, she looked at her dad who gave nothing but a small nod. "hi dad."

"yunyeong, how are you? i haven't seen you since you were so young," jenos mother greeted her, a bright smile on her face. though yun was never close with his mom, she was always so sweet to her.

"i'm okay, how are you?" the girl greeted back politely.

"i'm alright, sweetheart. starving, so why don't we sit down?" she asked the group. everyone agreed and they went to sit at their reserved table.

the atmosphere was quite normal, almost awkward, but the chatter from the rest of the people in the restaurant masked the tension amongst them. yun took the seat closest to jeno, her parents sitting on the other side of the table while jenos sat across from her. a waitress came to greet them, handing them menus and quickly grabbing their drink orders before walking away.

"so, how funny is it that you guys ended up attending the same college?" jenos mother laughed.

"pretty crazy." jeno replied, unsure of how to respond.

"time flies, huh? i always wondered why you were never close as kids."

yun could think of a few reasons. she was never allowed to leave the house unless it was school, she wasn't even allowed to have friends of the male species. of course she couldn't say that out loud, because god forbid she ever called them out on their bullshit.

"what are you majoring again, yun?" jenos dad then asked her.

"oh, business."

"how do you like it?"

yun smiled, "i like it, really."

"you've been getting tutoring, right? like we talked about? you really have been needing it. you were so good in high school." her mom chimed in, her eyebrows perking up.

yun sighed, "yes, mom."

"don't sigh at me, it was just a question."

"i know, i just would rather you not bring that up."

"it's not a big deal, yunyeong. if anyone should be embarrassed, it's me. relax." she sighed this time, looking back down at the menu in front of her.

yuns entire mood had dropped, slightly slouching back down into her seat. she not only felt humiliated at this point, but also infuriated. she could never have a simple conversation with her mother without it leading to somewhat of an argument.

"that's enough, you two," her dad cut in, that being the first thing he'd said since they've been there.

the tension was thicker than ever now, no one saying anything when the waitress came to hand them their drinks. even she could sense the change, looking seemingly uncomfortable.

"i'm gonna get some air," yun announced after she walked way, leaving the table and walking outside before anyone could say anything else.

stood outside for just a few seconds before jeno came out after her. she watched as he shoved his hands into his pockets and stood next to her.

"what are you doing? go back inside." she shoed.

"no way, that was awkward enough."

"mhm. sorry about that." yun apologized, her voice getting quieter.

jeno nudged her, "don't worry about it. i think i'm ready to go anyways."

"we didn't even eat dinner, jeno."

"do you wanna stay and eat here and deal with them even more? we could always stop somewhere on the way." she couldn't tell if he was pitying her, or genuinely also wanted to go home, but she didn't really care.

"nah, we can go," she decided.

"okay," he handed her his car keys, "wait in the car and i'll let them know we're leaving."
