Chapter Six

(A/N: Alright, here's Chapter Six, right after the previous chapter! I might try to do Chapter Seven tonight too!  Anywhoozles, here we go! Oh and this is taking place the same evening, but with what Kurapika and Y/N were doing after Killua went upstairs.)

~~THE LIVING ROOM~~

Kurapika noticed Killua silently take his leave from the living room from the corner of his eye. He pondered over what Killua and Y/N might've done all day, different scenarios manifesting in his mind. There was a light poke at his cheek, bringing him back from his thoughts. He looked over to see a pair of hopeful e/c eyes staring back at him, the owner with her finger still in midair after retracting from his skin. He nervously cleared his throat.

"Yes?" He asked curiously.

"What would you like to do?" Y/N asked excitedly.

Kurapika didn't answer right away, instead thinking it over.

'What do I like to do?' he asked himself in his mind.

He liked to read and take walks, but being used to keeping to himself, he never really acquired any hobbies to enjoy with company. As Y/N saw Kurapika's eyebrows knit in concentration, she sympathized with his struggle and an idea came to mind. She promptly got up from her seat and headed down the hall.

'I lost her... I spent way too much time trying to think of something, when I could've just picked something simple. Something normal. Why can't I be more normal?' Kurapika thought sadly to himself with his head held low, now alone in the room.

After a minute, Y/N returned to the living room and plopped herself next to Kurapika on the couch. Feeling the sudden pressure on the seat by him, he snapped his head up to see Y/N beside him, happily beaming at him. Her positivity was contagious and pulled him out of his mood, he couldn't help but smile back. He noticed an object in her hands: the item she returned with.

'A deck of cards? I don't think I know any card games.' He thought to himself nervously.

Y/N took the cards out of the pack and began to shuffle.

"We can play Stravaris!" she announced excitedly.

Just as he thought, he'd never heard of that game.

"Oh, I don't know how to play..." he admitted worriedly, afraid of disappointing her.

"Oh, I know. No one does. It's a game I created, but I think it's really fun. I can teach you how to play!" Y/N offered, excited to show someone her game.

(A/N: Stravaris is a card game that I created a few years ago, I won't go into all the details for the gameplay, but I designed it to be a good friendly game, as both players help each other to tie out, so the rounds continue, because helping the other player can in turn help you, but sooner or later there will be a winner, can be after one round, can take several rounds, I named it Stravaris after the strategy it takes and communication, and how the game length can really vary, stra = strategy, varis = varies. Anyway it's a fun game for friends to play because it isn't so competitive.)

Y/N explained how the game went, and Kurapika thought it was simple enough.

"Got it? Let's play a practice round!" Y/N said before standing and grabbing the seated Kurapika by the arm to lead him to an area of the floor where they could play.

She dealt the cards and took her turn. She requested for Kurapika to show her his hand and played the round for him and it caused them to tie out.

"That's what I planned to do." Kurapika announced after the round concluded.

"Oh... Then you've got this! Let's play an actual game." Y/N said before shuffling the cards and redealing.

They played several games, each lasting a different amount of rounds. In the end, Kurapika won more games, and that was quite alright with Y/N. For the first time since they met, Kurapika seemed to really be enjoying himself. That thought made her smile which didn't go unnoticed by Kurapika.

"What is it?"  he asked curiously.

"Oh, uh, nothing." she replied, then glanced at her watch to avoid eye contact and realized they've been playing for more than an hour.

She decided to gather up the cards and put them back in their case, concluding Stravaris for the night. She was glad her game seemed to bring him some joy and didn't want to overdo playing it, in turn spoiling it for him. She made her leave to return the cards to the office where she got them, but made sure to tell Kurapika this time first. During the moments Y/N was gone, Kurapika realized how hungry he was. He didn't have lunch or dinner, too busy focusing on his book or worrying what Y/N and Killua were up to. Upon Y/N's reentry, his stomach growled, which caused him a light blush in embarrassment.

"Oh, I'm pretty hungry, too." Y/N admitted, not having eaten herself since the hoagies.

"I could cook something, what would you like?" Y/N continued.

Kurapika furrowed his eyebrows and thought.
'I'm doing it again... Just think of something simple... Anything...' Kurapika pleaded to himself.

Y/N recognized that familiar expression from just over an hour ago and quickly came up with an idea.

"You know what, Kurapika... We're gonna binge on junk food. If that's alright with you, sir." Y/N said playfully, looking at Kurapika with a smile.

"Sure." he replied, returning the smile.

Y/N rushed to the kitchen to see what they had in their snack stash. Upon seeing the microwave popcorn, she came up with yet another idea. Movie night! As she was microwaving the two bags of popcorn, she asked Kurapika to pick whatever movie he wanted from AtopCommand (A/N: Yep, it's my version of OnDemand, but come on, the anime did Yorknew City, similar thing here). By the time Y/N returned with one big bowl of popcorn, he actually settled on a movie. He was determined to actually make a decision this time, and not sit and overthink it, being so awkward as to force Y/N to make a choice for him. He chose a thriller that had an interesting-sounding plot, and it turned out to be a movie Y/N had wanted to see for a while but hadn't had the chance as yet. They shared the bowl of popcorn as the movie went on. About two hours later, the credits rolled by on the screen.

"What did you think?" Y/N asked.

Kurapika wasn't sure if there were a right or wrong answer, then decided that that's alright, and that he'll just answer honestly.

"I thought it was pretty good, but I felt there was one big problem with the plot..." Kurapika began, then explained that if the main character didn't make such a dumb decision earlier in the movie in the first place, they wouldn't have had such a tough situation later on.

He then braced himself for Y/N's response to his opinion.

"I agree, but what she did was already done, an hour into the movie there's no point mulling over what she should've done earlier, and should focus on what she needs to do now. Even if she did deal that crappy hand to herself, I feel she did the best she could with the current situation." Y/N responded thoughtfully.

Kurapika processed her response and ultimately agreed.

"You're right." he said, with a slight nod.

Y/N gave a triumphant nod before disappearing into the kitchen with the now empty popcorn bowl, in search of some beverages. After she returned with the drinks, she then chose a second movie from AtopCommand. It was a f/m/g (favorite movie genre) film that she hadn't heard of but it looked like it could be good from the plot summary provided. The two sipped their drinks throughout the film. This one sparked up a difference in opinion. After the conclusion, Kurapika and Y/N were on opposite sides of the fence. Kurapika was in favor, while Y/N surprisingly was not, even though it was her pick.

Each had a whole catalogue of references to back up their personal view on the matter, causing the debate to go on for over an hour after the movie ended. Each agreed that the other made good points, and the debate was actually really fun. They decided to watch one more movie, one that they both equally agreed on. Y/N went to the kitchen for more refreshments. She grabbed two bowls and and two containers of ice cream.

Filling one bowl with two scoops of f/i/c/f (favorite ice cream flavor), and the other with one scoop of each kind, she grabbed a couple spoons and rejoined Kurapika. They had settled on a mystery movie which had a huge twist that neither saw coming. They turned and looked at each other with wide eyes, before returning back to the screen to see how it would end. They happily discussed the movie, no debates this time, after the credits began to roll. A small yawn escaped from Kurapika, causing Y/N to check the time, and seeing it was now past three in the morning.

"Wow, it's really late! Time flies, huh? You can go up to bed, I just have to clean these dishes." Y/N said with a stretch.

She grabbed the bowls and started her way toward the kitchen while Kurapika stood up to make his way up to his guest room.

"Kurapika?" Y/N said before fully leaving the room.

"Hmm?" Kurapika responded, stopping to look back.

"It was great hanging out. You should try to have fun more. You've got great friends, you know." Y/N informed him.

Kurapika gave a small nod, then Y/N proceeded to the kitchen. Kurapika ascended the stairs and prepared for bed. While laying back on the bed, he admitted that really was the most fun he had in a long time. He allowed himself a smile within the darkness of the room as he closed his eyes. He then said in such a soft whisper that he could barely hear it himself, "Thank you, Y/N..."

Soon after, he heard quiet footsteps make their way up the steps. Knowing who they belonged to, and before he fell into a dream as sleep overtook him, his final thought was how we wished he were able to say those words to her. Instead of in secret and while hiding within the shadows of the night.
