Chapter Five
(A/N: A bit of an announcement here, I'm working on another Hunter X Hunter story, six chapters of it will be up soon! So if you're an Illumi fan, and don't mind mature content, feel free to give it a peek when it's up! Alright, let's go!)
~~THE NEXT MORNING~~
Killua arose early. He looked out his window and saw that the rain had stopped and the sun was out. After getting himself ready for the day, he returned to his guest room and waited on the bed with the door open. He anxiously anticipating Y/N waking up and passing by his room on her way downstairs. He was planning to intercept her there, before she went down to join the others. He wanted to get her alone, without anyone else overhearing, especially Kurapika. Killua knew Kurapika and Gon were early risers, so he assumed Y/N would awaken sometime after.
During the wait, both the aforementioned boys already had awoken and each took their morning showers. While Killua was getting antsy with each passing moment, a pair of bright brown eyes peered in.
"Hey, Killua? I'm headed to the living room, wanna come?" Gon asked eagerly.
"Sure, I'll be down in a minute." Killua replied, but stayed where he was sitting.
"Alright!" Gon said with a closed-eye smile before running down the stairs.
Shortly after, Kurapika emerged from his room, now with his hair combed and wearing one of his usual tabards. He noticed Killua's door open across the hall from him. He leaned closer to see inside and saw Killua sitting on the bed. He quickly backed away before Killua could see him, but was unsure as to why he did that. He shook his head as to shake away that confusion and headed down the stairs.
A while after, Killua saw h/c hair pass by his doorway. He sat up, but hesitated, and watched as Y/N continued walking past the room and began her descent down the stairs. Killua groaned in frustration.
'Ugh! I waited all morning... Why did I freeze up?!' he thought angrily.
He then realized that she probably had to make breakfast first anyway, then she should be free. He'll approach her with his idea after the meal. Since there was nothing else to wait for, Killua got up from the bed to join everyone downstairs.
After everyone had finished eating, Y/N gathered everyone's plates and made her way to the kitchen to clean them.
'Now's the time.' Killua thought before getting up from his seat to approach Y/N in the kitchen.
The short walk to the kitchen seemed like miles, his heart racing throughout the journey. When he arrived, Y/N had her back to him, while rinsing dishes off in the sink. Killua took a deep breath before walking up beside her.
"Oh, hi Killua!" Y/N said brightly.
"Hey..." Killua responded while nervously rubbing the back of his head.
"It's a nice day out. We could go to a few places around town... I mean, if you want." Killua continued nervously.
"Sure! There's a bunch of cool places to go here. The weather seems perfect! I'll be ready after I finish up these dishes." Y/N responded excitedly.
"Oh, I'll help." Killua offered, wanting to go as soon as possible.
The two of them went on to wash the dishes in silence. Killua was drying the last dish before he looked up at Y/N with excitement in his eyes.
"You ready?" he asked.
"Yup!" Y/N replied, then they made their way through the living room to head to the front door.
Killua opened the front door and gestured for Y/N to go out first. Killua followed then closed the door behind him, leaving Y/N confused as to why the others weren't coming.
"Just us?" she asked.
"Uh... Yeah... I mean... The guys probably wouldn't wanna go. Kurapika's into his book and Leorio and Gon seemed to be enjoying the show they're watching." Killua nervously replied, while sheepishly shrugging his shoulders.
"Oh...alright!" Y/N replied happily before taking a few steps ahead.
Then, she suddenly stopped.
"Where did you wanna go?" she asked, turning back to face Killua.
Killua already had a few places in mind. He had a habit of being very aware of his surroundings and took note of all the places they passed by on their way to the house a few nights ago. Among those places were a few different parks.
"What's your favorite park in town? We could head there." he suggested.
"Ooo! Faircreek Park! They've got the BEST swings! Let's go before they're all taken!" Y/N said excitedly before grabbing Killua by the arm, leading him in the direction of said park.
Killua smiled in response of Y/N's happy attitude and let her lead the way.
Upon arriving at the park, Y/N let go of Killua's arm and headed toward the swing area. Killua eagerly followed, but was already missing the physical contact from just before. When they arrived at the swings, all four were available.
"Yes! We're early enough that I can have my pick!" Y/N exclaimed before sitting on her favorite swing.
Killua hurried behind her and began to start pushing her forward. Y/N was having an amazing time, feeling the sun on her face and the wind through her hair. Swinging was her favorite outdoor activity. After a bit, she suddenly frowned.
"You don't have to push me the whole time, Killua, you should swing too!" she said suddenly, looking behind at him.
Killua was a bit disappointed, as he really enjoyed pushing her, but complied and took the swing next to her.
'This really is great...' he thought to himself as he pumped his legs to go higher.
They ended up having a swinging height competition, and Killua easily won. Triumphant with his win, he jumped off his swing and landed gracefully on his feet. Y/N decided to try that too. She jumped off at her highest point, and surprisingly landed on her feet, but the impact of the ground from such a height caused her to stumble forward. Killua instantly caught her in his arms, and helped her regain her balance.
"Thanks, Killua." Y/N said shyly.
"Don't mention it." Killua replied, putting his hands in his pockets.
"I'm gonna get back on!" Y/N announced before running to her empty swing that was still rocking back and forth.
Killua then raced back to his swing and they began to swing in sync, before Killua pushed himself higher. Killua was beating her again, but she didn't mind. She didn't have a care in the world.
They swung for a couple hours, neither of them really wanting to get off. Y/N decided she should show Killua the rest of the park, then dug her feet into the ground to stop her momentum. Seeing her slowing down, Killua followed suit. Y/N led him around the park, explaining all the different aspects of it. It was a pretty large park and took a bit to get to everything. By the time they got to the sitting area of the park, they both were pretty hungry. Y/N's stomach growled, then she sat down on a bench.
"I'm hungry too." Killua said, while trying to think up a plan.
He forgot that they may have needed to eat while out. He then spotted a delicatessen across the street.
"Hey, I'll go get us some sandwiches. You stay here, I'll be right back." Killua said before heading across the street.
After entering, he realized he didn't have a game plan. He had no idea what kind of sandwiches Y/N liked.
'You're overthinking it... Just keep it simple.' he thought before deciding to get two ham and cheese hoagies. (A/N: Or subs, or heroes, whatever you call them. I'm from New Jersey, so we say hoagie.) He grabbed two sodas, straws, and napkins, then paid the deli man. He exited the store and prepared the cross the street. He paused, to stare at Y/N before proceeding. Her face glowed, her hair shined, and her e/c eyes lit up beneath the sunshine. Killua sighed and smiled to himself before crossing the street. He presented the food to Y/N before taking a seat next to her on the bench.
"I didn't know what you like, so I just you a got ham and cheese hoagie." he said while handing her the sandwich and soda.
"That deli makes awesome ham and cheeses!" she said while unwrapping the sandwich and taking a small bite.
"...Thanks, Killua." she said shyly before taking a sip of soda.
"No problem, Y/N." Killua responded with a small smile before taking a bite of his own hoagie.
'She's right, this is pretty good.' Killua thought while taking another bite.
They happily ate their meal, and after finishing, Killua had an idea.
"Isn't there a candy shop up Flettering Avenue?" he asked while Y/N was taking her last sip of soda.
He knew he saw a candy store on the way to town. They were bound to sell chocolate, which would be a perfect dessert to accompany the meal. Y/N had made them chocolate chip pancakes once before, so he was sure she liked chocolate.
"Yeah, there is. Why? Did you wanna stop there?" Y/N asked.
"Sure, come on." Killua stood and disposed of their trash in a nearby bin and this time, he led the way, remembering exactly where he saw it.
Upon entering the shop, Killua's assumption was more than correct. Before them was a huge display of many kinds of chocolate. While Killua's mind was still being blown and having trouble settling on what to get, Y/N already gave the man working there her chocolate order. Killua knew it would prolly take him hours to decide, so he figured he'd just what Y/N was getting.
"Make that double." he told the man.
They gathered their chocolates and exited the shop when something caught Killua's eye. Flashing lights from next door demanded his attention. The neon signs shouted "Arcade" and Killua's eyes lit up as brightly as the display. Y/N was taking a bite of chocolate when this time, it was Killua taking her by the arm, leading her to the arcade entrance.
They played various games throughout the afternoon. Killua beat Y/N at most, and let her win at the rest. While completely a shooting game against Killua, Y/N noticed that the sun had begin to set, they'd been out all day.
"We should start heading back, Killua." she said, while putting the game gun back in its holster.
"Eh??" Killua started, but then looked at the time and it indeed was getting late.
He agreed they should head back, but he really didn't want their time together to end.
"...Yeah, let's get you home." Killua finished.
They exited the arcade and made their way toward the house.
"Today was really fun." Killua stated, midway into the journey back.
"Yeah it was! I wish the rest of the guys could've come, I think they would've had a great time too." Y/N replied, her words making it feel like a needle was stabbing Killua in the heart.
"Let's hurry back to the guys." Y/N continued, quickening her walking pace.
'The rest of the guys?' Killua thought disappointedly.
He didn't reply, but kept her pace, and the rest of the way back was silent.
~~~~~~~
Illumi kept a modest distance while following his brother and the girl he was with on their way back. He'd been keeping close watch on them all day, since before the park. Illumi was irritated that in addition to Killua having friends, he now had a girlfriend? How ridiculous. He settled back into the patch of woods he'd been keeping watch from as the two entered the house. The bloodlust he was leaking caught Hisoka's attention.
"Jealous?" Hisoka purred.
He then grabbed Illumi's hand to bring up to his lips but suddenly found his hand pinned to a tree. He looked to see his hand pierced by multiple nen needles. He looked up at Illumi with a smirk.
"Don't touch me." Illumi said coldly, deciding to leave Hisoka's hand pinned.
He was becoming an irritating distraction. Hisoka lifted up his other hand in surrender. Illumi turned his attention back to the house.
~~~~~~~
When they got back inside, it was just Kurapika in the living room, reading as usual. Apparently Leorio and Gon were already asleep in their rooms. Y/N and Killua had forgotten to tell anyone that they were having a day out, which left Kurapika and Leorio worried. After a few hours, Leorio figured his sister was just out showing Killua around town and knew Killua was definitely capable of keeping her safe so he relaxed. He decided later that she would be fine, feeling comfortable enough with that to go to sleep. Kurapika, however, was on edge all day. Y/N quickly took the seat by Kurapika and greeted him brightly.
"Hello." he replied, not looking up from his book.
"Come on, Kurapika, you're always reading, let's do something else." she complained, before taking the book from him, and closing it, but making sure to save the page.
This flustered Kurapika a bit, he then looked away.
"Why don't you do something with Killua?" he asked while trying to get his book back.
Y/N then held it beyond his reach. Kurapika sighed.
'It's obvious you two like each other.' he thought to himself bitterly.
"I already spent all day with Killua, so now, I'd like to spend some time with you." Y/N stated while putting the book down on the other side of her.
Hearing those words caused Kurapika to deeply blush, which Killua noticed from his side of the room. It confirmed his suspicions that Kurapika liked Y/N and it seemed Y/N wanted some alone time with him. Killua felt confident enough to make his leave. He felt Kurapika wasn't bold enough to make any moves right now, but he'd better hurry up himself, because Kurapika might soon be.
Killua quietly exited and headed up the stairs to go to his guest room. As he approached his door, he was intercepted by a tired voice.
"Hey, Killua... Where were you guys all day?" said a sleepy Gon while rubbing his eyes.
"We just went to a few places around town. Sorry to worry you guys." Killua replied, getting ready to enter his room.
"Without us?? Why didn't you invite me and the others??" Gon asked, disappointment and worry in his big eyes.
"I... I just... I wanted to go alone." Killua stuttered, flustered by the sudden questioning.
"Alone with Y/N?" Gon asked curiously.
Killua let out a small frustrated sigh.
"Yeah... Don't worry about it. I'm headed to bed. Night, Gon." Killua admitted before entering his room and shutting the door behind him, leaving a confused Gon out in the hallway.
'Alone with Y/N? Why? Why would they need to be alone? We're all friends...' Gon thought to himself while returning to his room.
He spent the most of the night trying to figure it out.
'Killua saying not to worry about it is making me worry more about it!' Gon thought, while frustration and confusion caused smoke to seep from his ears.
After several more moments of confusion along with determination, a spark lit up in Gon's brain.
"Wait... Does Killua like Y/N? Is that why he wants time with her alone? I'm his best friend and he didn't even invite me, that must be it!" Gon exclaimed quietly.
'As his best friend, I'm determined to help!' Gon thought triumphantly before heading to sleep.
