chapter 35 | Attention

— Two weeks later —

Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

6 am.

The flight time now over, I take my earphones off and rise from my seat, feeling exhausted and apprehensive after all the time spent away from Jungkook. I let some people pass to leave while putting my coat on, and I grab my bag, then make my way to the door.

I expect him to be here no matter what I told him, he should be sleeping, the exams are coming, so he needs to study, but I feel like he hasn't done anything of what he said he did by text.

Once I step out, I walk up to the luggage and wait for mine to be at my reach, then I take it, I place it on the tilted floor and do not wait before going away. These two weeks by my dad and stepmother's side were great, but I have to admit that I missed Jungkook a lot. More than I thought I would.

My footsteps leading me away from the crowd of people, I raise my eyes up from the floor and look for the one who should be waiting for me, but as soon as I stumble upon a boy in a grey sweatshirt, a pair of dark blue pants, with a black teddy bear jacket that allows him to hide his hair under a hood, I smile but feel my heart go insane.

We both make eye contact pretty quickly, his big and sparkling ones meeting mine, he walks up to me without waiting for me to arrive, and he takes me in his arms, so I hug him back.

I keep quiet while feeling his arms and hands squeeze my waist, and I keep my arms around his neck, enjoying his warmth, his soft scent, and his body against mine.

"Are you okay?" he grips my sides, sounding fragile. "Yes, and you? Did you get enough sleep?"

"Hm..." his unsteady voice vibrates through his throat as he's attempting to keep it in. "I missed you..." he mumbles in the crook of my neck but sniffles, so I pass my hands over his back and turn my head to press a kiss on his cheek. "I missed you too."

Since I want to see his pretty face, I bring my hands to his face. "Hey, no crying we said," I remind him of the words he told me last night even though we both knew this would happen that way. "I missed you so much..." he gazes at me with his red and teary eyes, breaking my heart with his baby face. I wipe his tears away but cup his face to kiss his rosy lips.

The taste of them instantly tells me he applied some lip balm again, the one he wore the first time he kissed me. Once I try to pull away, his face goes forth, and he locks our lips anew for some more, so I let this contact carry on and kiss him back a bit more passionately.

"I love you," he pecks my lips to look into my eyes, and I maintain it. "I love you too," I brush my thumbs over his sharp jawline but encircle his neck with my arms to hold him again, feeling like he cannot let go of me. "My baby..." I whisper in his ear but feel his clasp tighten around my body, and I smile, instinctively.

"We go to your house now, right?" he already tries to reassure himself. "Yes, but you have to get ready to go to school."

"What?" he moves his head back. "I'm not going today. I wanna stay with you, I don't want to work at all."

"Jungkook, I have to go back to work as well. I don't have a choice. We'll cuddle all night long in my bed tonight, all right?" I give him my word, knowing he will be happy about it as much as I am since this will be the first night spent at my house together. "Yeah..." he agrees, against his will. "My dad is here...he's going to drive us back home."

I nod, some anxiousness filling me because of this sentence. "Let's go then," I press one more kiss on his lips, and he grabs my hand to go out of the building.

"I wanted to text and call you every day, but I didn't because I knew I would annoy you..." he lets out as if he needed to get this off his chest to make me know. I glance at him, and his fingers intertwine with mine once our eyes meet. "You wouldn't have annoyed me at all, Jungkook. Why would you think that?"

He shrugs but does not take his glisten eyes off of me. "I just felt like you wanted and needed some time alone..."

"No," my heart aches at the sound of his words. "Baby, every time you sent me a text I was happy as ever, and I told you, so you knew I would never be annoyed."

"I just thought..." he shrugs again and licks his luscious lips to look away, and he points his finger at something. "My dad is here," he rubs one of his eyes but passes his fluffy sleeve over his cheeks, so I look in that direction but only stumble upon a smiling man.

"Good morning," he says before I could, and I bow to him. "Good morning, Mister Jeon. I hope it's not too early for you."

"No, don't worry about that. I barely slept because of this little man," he chuckles but heads to the back of the car, making me wonder why he said that. "Really?" I follow him, Jungkook's warm hand still holding onto mine. "Yeah, he could not sleep, so we watch some series for time to seem shorter," he reveals and instantly gets me to feel soft.

I love him so much.

"Come on, you can give me your luggage and bag," he stretches his hands out to me, so I roll the luggage towards him, and he picks it up to put it inside the trunk. "How was the flight? Are you tired?" he questions me, willing to know more. "It was long, but I was able to sleep, so this was easier to stand."

"Good, I bet you will sleep like a baby tonight," he grins but closes the door, so I get in the back of the car and Jungkook comes with me, leaving his dad all alone in the front.

"Let me warm this space up real quick," he turns the ignition on as we're putting our seat belts on, but I peek in Jungkook's direction who's staying quiet.

He tucks his hands in his pockets and gazes at me in one of the sweetest ways, he smiles, and I do it back without even realizing it. "Are you planning on going to work today?" Mister Jeon's voice breaks the eye contact. "Yes. Two weeks were already enough, so I have to go back to it as fast as I can."

"You know, one day more wouldn't have been bad, and you could have felt a little more restful for your students," he thinks the opposite of what I do, making me feel like Jungkook's behavior must have affected his opinion. "I thought about resting, but I don't know."

"I understand," he nods, keeping his eyes on the road while driving with one hand. "Something is waiting for you at home though."

"Dad, you—" Jungkook reacts in not time in a plaintive voice. "I told you not to say it..."

"I haven't said what it is, that's okay," he takes a small glance at him while I'm lost. I want to know what it is now, I'm terribly curious. "What is that 'something'?" I look at both of them. "Nothing," Jungkook answers. "You'll see once we're there. He ruined the surprise..."

"Oh, I'm sorry," he giggles at his son but feels some empathy as he knows he must have disappointed him a little. "Hm."

I beam at them but comfort my baby. "It's fine. I'll be surprised since I don't know what it is yet."

"Yeah..." he pouts, melting my heart after only a few minutes. I love how adorable he can be.

40 minutes later...

The ride coming to an end, the three of us leave the car, and Mister Jeon gets the luggage out of it for me. "You can come in, no one is awake," he closes the trunk and locks the doors, so I follow him with Jungkook next to me.

After a few seconds, we get to the front door, and he opens it, lets us in, and closes it, so I take my shoes off and leave my stuff on the spot. Mister Jeon and Jungkook do the same and head to the kitchen, so I walk along their steps to not stay where I am.

However, Jungkook makes a beeline for the fridge as if he was impatient to drink or eat something, and his dad unbuttons the top of his shirt, standing close to the kitchen island but smiling at what his son is doing.

"Can you close your eyes?" Jungkook turns towards me, making me realize the surprise is in there. I laugh but do as asked. "Don't open them until I say so," he tells me, so I listen and wait.

Some noise can be heard, a heavy dish must have been placed right in front of me given the sound it made, and he continues while I'm keeping my eyes closed. This is very calm though, I wonder what he is doing.

"Why are you shaking like that?" Mister Jeon makes fun of him in a cute way, but Jungkook clicks his tongue. "Stop...I'm not..." the sound of a lighter catches my attention. This is getting hard to not look. "Are you gonna stay here the whole time...?" he adds as the item touched the flat surface. "Yes."

The cute boy sighs but clears his throat. "You can open your eyes," he permits me, and I do it to finally see what is in front of me.

Once I catch sight of a cake with a lit candle in the middle, my heart skips a beat. "I...I know you like chocolate, so...I hope you're not feeling sick or anything, but I baked it before leaving the house..." he grips the edge of the kitchen island, fidgeting on his spot and biting his lips nervously. "And I...I made a hot chocolate...here," he pokes the cup that I did not notice but see 'I love you' written on it.

"Aw, Jungkook..." I do not know what to say or do since his father is here, but I step towards him and peck his pink cheek. "Thank you so much, this is so cute..." I giggle, shyly, feeling touched by what he did. "I love you too," I gaze into his eyes and say it in a quiet voice, but he beams, broadly, and behaves like a nervous baby in front of me.

"Let me blow the candle," I lean towards it and blow it out. "I'm going to cut a piece for you both," his father takes care of it, so I grab the hot cup and sip on the straw to warm myself up. I lay my eyes on Jungkook since he seems to have become all excited, and he bends over to put his arms down and stare at me, smiling but glancing away for a second. "Is it good?"

"It is, yours are always better," I drink some more before putting it down. "Here you are," Mister Jeon places a smaller dish in front of me with a piece of cake then serves his son, so we both thank him.

"You can leave, now...thank you," Jungkook looks at him, still blushing because of the situation. "I really feel unwanted here," he does not say it seriously but chuckles and steps away. "Enjoy the food, I hope you'll be able to rest," he passes behind me, telling me some sweet words. "And you, you have something here," he rubs his cheeks to mention this part of his face, making Jungkook touch his own ones. "It's all red," he laughs but goes away, flustering his own child and making him huff.

"Dammit..." he mumbles, glaring at him. "Why does he have to embarrass me in front of you...?" his eyes do not even look at me, they make their way towards his food right away. I cannot help but feel something pleasant in my chest. "You're cute, I don't mind him doing it."

He shoves some of the cake in his mouth but peeks up at me. "Do you find it good?" he changes the subject to not have to talk about his shyness, and I nod to him, loving the taste of this chocolate cake. "I love it."

"Great," he expresses his relief and happiness. "Are you going to work?" he sticks his spoon in his mouth to lick the chocolate off, but I gaze down, thinking about the answer. "I don't know. I still have at least one hour to know what I do."

He pulls the spoon out but keeps it against his rosy lips. "Have you studied for your exams?" I ask him, hoping for the answer to be an honest one. He stares at me but tilts his head to the side. "Hm...yeah."

"Yeah? That does not sound certain," I raise my eyebrows, seeing through his gaze that he does not dare to tell me the truth. "I studied," he drops his look on my lips. "I just...had a hard time focusing, but I did it. I swear."

"I'll help you study, I want you to succeed," I smile at him, seeing the same expression form on his face. "I want to as well, just to show you that I can work and love you at the same time."

"I'm not asking you to succeed but just work hard, not too much, but just enough to give your best. That's the most important," I make sure she does not go too far only to do good, caring about his health and own goals first. He nods to me. "I'll give my best."

"You already have a schedule ready anyway," I state and take a piece of the cake. "We go to school, we go back home, you study and do your homework while I work and help you, then we eat, we cuddle and maybe study a little more, then we go to bed."

"I like this schedule a lot," he beams at me and shows some happiness. I missed all these small things that matter the most to me.

'JUNGKOOK'S P.O.V'

"Hey," Dongsik joins us after missing the first classes, and he sits down next to me at the table. "Hey, how was it at the doctor?"

"Fine, I just have to wear this for at least one month," he shows the cast on his forearm, not looking really happy about it. "Can I draw little flowers on it?" I chuckle while eating my rice, but he tries to conceal a smile that I caused while staring at me. "Yeah, like this, when I'll hit you hard with it, you'll see those flowers from even closer."

"I'm joking," I change my mind really quick and peek at my food. "You'll never do that to me anyway, or else y/n will hate you."

"Yeah, I won't do it just for that reason," he does not miss a chance to take revenge and opens his bag that he left on his lap. "How was it this morning? Is she all right?"

"She is, she's just a bit tired," I nod and grab hold of my carton of milk to sip on it. "All the students were sticking to her ass and being dramatic once they saw her," Jaehyun speaks out, chewing on his food. "I'm not surprised, I missed her too," he smirks, glancing at me to see my reaction. "I can't wait to see her later."

I do not say anything in order to not give him what he wants, and I eat. "Did you talk about...you know what?" he asks me, knowing everything since I told him about it. "Not yet, probably this evening or night. I don't know. We keep it anyway, and we already talked about it on the phone, so...yeah...I'd rather give her some time."

"Good," he places his meal on the table but gets me to feel even more hungry than I was before starting my own meal. "Dude...I had a weird-ass dream though," I cannot keep it to myself. "What was it about?" he waits before opening his food, and I explain to him while Jaehyun and Minjun are listening too. "It was, like...I woke up in the middle of the night, and I went downstairs because I could hear some noise, and when I had the living room within sight, I saw...y/n...with my dad," I bite my lips, feeling horrible for having this on my mind.

"Wait, what?" he gets weirded out by it, both Minjun and Jaehyun reacting the same way. "How the hell can you dream about that?"

"I don't fucking know, dude," I hate my brain and myself. "And what were they doing exactly?" Jaehyun frowns at me, forcing me to remember what I don't want to. "Well...my dad was sitting on one of the sofas...she was on his lap, naked...they were making out...I don't know, I don't want to know," I refuse to have the images back in my head, but they chuckle at me. "Your head is messed up."

"I know," I do not deny it but agree, and Dongsik follows. "Do you see him as a threat?" he asks, making me wonder what he means by that. "A threat?"

"Yeah. Like me," he makes me figure out right away, but I tell the truth. "Well, they're both close, I know he's popular among women, so...kinda, but not really like a threat because I know he loves my mom and wouldn't try anything, but I'm pretty sure y/n must find him attractive or something, and she knows he's my step-dad...so I wouldn't take it as a compliment since I don't look like him."

"Jeez..." he chuckles through his exhalation. "You're unbelievable."

"What happened after you saw them though?" Jaehyun asks to know more about it. "I can barely remember, it was weird because I knew it was my dad, but it wasn't his face, and I just know that I felt like my heart just left my chest and landed on the ground. I wanted to cry, dude, seriously. He saw me after some seconds, but you won't believe what happened right after," I tongue my inner cheek, but he shakes his head, and I point my finger at Dongsik. "This asshole right next to me, my dad turned into him for no damn reason, but the only thing he did was to look at me and smirk while touching y/n who was kissing his neck."

The one I talked about bursts into laughter by my side and enjoys it. "Swear that I did that in your dream," he has fun, but I glare. "You were fucking taunting me and then you did more, and I just want to kill you now that I think about it."

He laughs as if this was funny. "Describe everything, I'm liking this so much."

I punch him in the arm, all of them thinking this is a joke when I cried once I woke up. "I'm so traumatized that I remember everything, you grabbed her by the hair, and you kissed her neck, but she moaned your name, and I can't forget that sound. Then you started to be rough with her and talk dirty...I want to cry at the thought of those things..." I swallow the bitterness that caused, but he breathes out sharply and calms down. "Damn. Poor little boy."

"There is just one thing that I want to know," Minjun puts a piece of bread in his mouth as he got all our attention. "Was he naked?"

Jaehyun cackles, but I shake my head with relief. "Thank god he wasn't. He still had his clothes on, but with honesty, I'd rather dream of him naked than him having sex with my woman and doing it right under my nose with damn arrogance to destroy me, especially since she was loud because of him."

"What the hell did you watch before sleeping to have this type of dream?" Dongsik dares to still speak, but I mumble my answer. "Some videos..." I look down at my food. "I wonder what kind of videos that was."

"Hm..." I shove some more food in my mouth, but he focuses on his, grasping my attention as I'm trying to forget the dream that remains in my head. "A sandwich? Dude, can we share?" I bite my lips, craving for some junk food. "Nope, sorry, but I need the whole thing."

"Okay, but...just one piece...the food here is disgusting, dude. I'm starving because y/n couldn't cook lunch," I put my chopsticks down, watching him pull the wrapping down. "And you didn't even cook for her? You could have done something! Just for that reason, I'll keep this whole sandwich for myself."

"But I baked a cake at four or five am in the morning, and I wanted to...cuddle a little before going to school," I let my excuse out, but he bites into it. "Just the tip," I laugh but make him almost choke on the bread. "Shut up. The tip is the best, and that's mine, I won't give it to anyone."

"What about Areum?" Jaehyun cannot hold back from saying, so I chuckle like a stupid kid. "You both shut the fuck up and eat your food, goddam."

"All right, you're not a real friend then," I act like a desperate guy and dig in my cheap, tasteless food. "Oh, I can give it to Miss Han if you want. Will that make me a good friend?" his comeback makes me shoot my eyes up towards him.

"Wait, which tip are we talking about?" my other dumbass friend says out loud. "She wouldn't want it anyway," I state, with confidence. "Hm. Sure. I haven't forgotten about the conversation we had some days ago."

"Don't you dare say anything about that, got it?" I look daggers at him to look as threatening as possible. "Uh, yeah sure. If you don't test me. Otherwise, I can tease you about it."

"No, you can't. That's not cool," I shake my head and shove some meat in my mouth, remembering that moment which was pretty serious no matter the topic.
