SIX

"Anna, come on! You picked truth, now you have to answer the truth." Rowan argued sitting against a large stone in front of Adrianna and Cass.

The camp was full of life this morning. Kids were running around, other kids were finding hiding places to make out or get laid, while others were just sitting and talking, like they were doing. Cass was surprisingly happy, to say the least. Sure, she missed her brother with all her heart, she ached for him to join them, but she had to think realistically: he wasn't coming down.

Adrianna let out an obnoxious grown before sighing heavily. "Fine! My first kiss was with Casey Lawson, when she still had good looks," she began. "Things got pretty heated, but then we heard kids talking in the hallway before we could advance."

"Now that is what I call a first kiss," Cass teased, winking at her friend before bursting into a fit of laughter.

Before they could continue with their game of truth or dare, a shrill scream rose from within the woods. The trio were already on their feet and racing towards the sound. What they found was quite worrying: Murphy holding a girl against her will over a small fire. "Bellamy!" Cass turned her head head and managed to look over and see Bellamy joining the crowd, stepping forward. "Check it out; we want the Ark to think we're dying, right? Figured it'll look better if we suffered a little bit."

Cass could tell by Rowan's stance that he was ready to jump in and save her, but Wells was quicker. He ran towards Murphy and pushed him off, grunting at him to let her go. He did eventually, when he was pushed over. "You can stop this." Wells tells Bellamy as he steps forward.

"Stop what? All this?" He asks. "I'm just getting started." His signature smirk began to grow at the corners of his lips, and Cass instantly had a bad feeling. Suddenly, Murphy popped up and gave Wells a right hook, causing the whole crowd to gasp at the sudden move.

The crowd began to cheer on the fight, but Cass wasn't at it. Murphy had some sort of advantage, one that she couldn't see clearly. So, Cass raced in and tripped Murphy, sending a foot to his face when he was down on the wet forest ground. "Leave him alone." She hissed, glaring at him before looking back at the bleeding and injured Wells.

The crowd became hushed, only faint whispers could be heard. "Bellamy, you can't control this." Cass stated as she walked towards him. "Whatever the hell we want may stand today, but we need to establish at least some rules. We can all still have some sort of freedom, a taste of no limits, but there needs to be a limit. Eventually, one of us is going to get hurt or killed."

The crowd began speaking of anticipation, and Cass turned around to see Murphy holding on to his makeshift knife. "You're dead," he mumbled as he stalked towards her with a murderous glare in his eyes.

"Wait," Bellamy stepped in between the two, his hand out to stop Murphy while he just looked at Cass with a noticeable hint of curiosity blooming behind his eyes. "Fair fight."

He dropped a knife in front of her, and she just looked at it before looking back at Bellamy. "What is this? A fight to the death?" She asks.

"If you want it to be." Bellamy replied, shrugging his shoulders a bit as he watched after walking to the side.

A smirk grew on Murphy's lips as Cass hesitantly bent down and picked up the knife, looking at Murphy with a heavy sigh. She began walking back, but Murphy would occasionally try to jab at her side while she walked. Cass managed to take note that his shoulder moved forward to try and stab at her, so when he did, she managed to lift her knife and scratch the back of his right shoulder blade. Murphy's pained cry surprised the camp, but all it did was make Cass smirk.

The next jab, she tried to dodge the blade to get behind him, but Murphy was quick and managed to cut her arm. She winces a let out a short groan, but she went back to her standing position. "This is for kicking me in the face!" He growled. Murphy lifted his arm, which Cass took and twisted it around. She snatched the blade from his hand and held it up to his neck, his hand grabbing her wrist in an attempt to stop the knifes movement. "Come on!" He growled. "Do it!"

"Hey!" All heads turned to see Clarke coming down from a hill. Quickly, she was followed by spacewalker, Octavia, and Monty. "Let him go!"

She obliged, releasing Murphy from his grip, but still keeping his knife in her hand. Murphy then angrily charged at Cass, but Bellamy was quick to hold him back. "Hey, Murphy!" He grabbed on to his friend's shoulders, looking him in the eyes. "Leave her alone."

His attention drifted from keeping Cass from getting killed to an injured Octavia, who was aided in walking by Monty. "Octavia!" He called as he took her from Monty's arms, Cass following as she stood at one side of Monty. "Are you alright?"

She only managed to grunt in reply, followed by a breathy "yeah". The moment was ruined when Bellamy, and Cass, took note of them empty handed. "Where's the food?" Bellamy asked.

"And where's Jasper?" Cass was shocked to see Rowan joining Cass's side, followed by Adrianna picking up the pace.

"We didn't make it to Mount Weather," Spacewalker admitted sadly as he took a seat.

Cass looked over as she saw Bellamy's patience thinning. "And what the hell happened out there?"

A short silence overwhelmed them before Clarke answered. "We were attacked," she admitted, her face full of fear.

"Attacked?" Wells asked, sounding quite surprised. "By what?"

"Well, not what," Spacewalker answered, not shifting from his seat on the rock. "Who. Turns out the last man who died from not making it to the Ark, he wasn't the last Grounder."

Octavia's breathy pants were subsided as she began to speak. "It's true." She managed to say, Bellamy's hand reached behind her to rub her back in a comforting manner. It almost made Cass smile, reminding her of the days Titus would hold her when she had a nightmare.

"Everything we thought we knew about the Ground is wrong," Clarke speaks up, murmurs growing within the crowd. "They're people here. Survivors." Only then, did the murmurs grow louder, Cass's dark eyes circling the crowd as the voices grew. "The good news is, that means we can survive. Radiation won't kill us."

Clarke's speech almost raised Cass's hopes, until Spacewalker stepped in to speak. "Yeah, but the bad news is, the Grounders will."

Another hushed silence fell among the crowd as they all began to absorb the information. The Grounders wanted them dead, but why? They were all trying to survive, why not work together? "Where's the kid with the goggles?" Wells suddenly asks.

"I literally just asked that a few minutes ago!" Rowan complained, Cass laughing silently as his distress.

Clarke turned to face Wells, giving him an answer. "Jasper was hit," she answered sadly. "They took him." Her bright eyes averted from Wells own eyes to the wet forest floor, but she eventually noticed something off topic. "Where's your wristband?" She asks as she grabbed his wrist.

"We took them off," Cass answered, stepping forward slightly to raise up her once wristbanded wrist. "We aren't lab rats anymore."

Clarke stepped forward towards Cass, her trio, and the Blake siblings. "How many?" She asks.

"Twenty-four and counting." Murphy answers, Cass hearing the sense of pride in his voice and he gave her the number.

Cass could tell that she was shocked, her blonde hair moving slowly as she shook her head gently. "You idiots," she breathed out. "Life support on the Ark is failing," she states, Cass crossing her arms over her chest as she impatiently moved her foot in the mud. Not another prep talk... She silently begged. "That's why they brought us down here! They need to know if the Ground is survivable again and we need their help against whoever is out there. If you take off your wristbands then you're not just killing them, you're killing us!"

A few audible gasps could be heard throughout the crowd, nobody daring to engage. "We're stronger than you think," Bellamy announced from the silence. "She's one of the Privileged! If they come down, she'll have it good! How many of you can say the same?" Cass's eyes went around to see if anyone would raise their hand. She noticed that Adrianna wanted to raise her hand for a gag, but Cass managed to shake her head. No, not for this. "We can take care of ourselves! That wristband on your arm, it makes you a prisoner.

For some reason, Cass's hand found its way to her wrist, rubbing the spot where her wristband once laid attached. "We're not prisoners anymore!" Several voices of encouragement could be heard within the crowd. "They say they'll forgive your crimes. I say, you're not criminals!" Once again, words of encouragement flooded throughout the teens as Bellamy paced within the the inside of the crowd. "You're fighters! Survivors! The Grounders should worry about us!"

Cass couldn't help but agree with his words, cheering at him. In a sense, he was right. She wasn't a criminal for being born; she was a fighter for surviving for fifteen years without being arrested. The crowd erupted loudly with cheers, fists pumping in the air. Cass looked at Clarke's distressed and pissed off expression, as she walks away, but Cass could care less. If she didn't want to be free, fine. Sucks for her.

They weren't criminals anymore, and Clarke needed to suck it up.
