HUIT
Keeping her spot next to Bellamy, Cass kept a steady pace as she walked through the woods. The sounds of nature naturally relaxing her muscles as she carefully stepped over branches and rocks, anything that could further injure herself. "Hey," she spoke up, looking up at Bellamy as she noticed him look down at her. "Jasper saved your sister's life, you at least owe him by saving him from certain death...well, if he isn't dead already."
A small huff came from the eldest Blake, his eyes averting forward before he looked back at her. "You don't take sides do you?" He asks, Cass letting her shoulders go up before falling back down.
"I stick with I believe," she tells him. "I believe that the bracelet removal is a good idea, leaving Earth to ourselves with no proper government, no laws. But, there still needs to be order." She saw him nod his head slightly as she watched her booted feet step over a rather large branch, before looking back at Bellamy. "Also, I think that a proper leader does what's best for his or her people. Saving and protecting your people is important, Bellamy. Right now, you're kinda being a good leader, there's room for improvement."
Her words hung in the air, Bellamy letting his head fall as he watched his feet dig through the earth, Cass letting her dark eyes fall to her own feet as she made sure she was careful not to trip over anything. "How do you know so much about leadership?" Her eyes flicked up as she noticed Bellamy had stopped walking. "Didn't you hide in the ceiling for fifteen years?"
Once again, Cass did her signature shrug as she watched the rebel leader. "It gave me time to read," she explained. "Titus knew some people who could snag me some books and not get caught." Bellamy then followed Cass as she began to walk, her lips curling into a small smirk. "Can't keep yourself away, can you?"
"You're something, Cassie Arsen." Bellamy teased, making her cringe slightly.
"So, are we The Bookworm & The Rebel Leader? Fighting for justice and staying independent?" Cass joked, catching Bellamy's dark eyes as they once again stopped walking.
He shrugged, shifting his weight from foot to foot as he looked down on her. "You've been by my side since we got down here, figured if Murphy ever went rouge I might need another second in command."
Her eyes widened a bit in shock, followed by a small laugh. "Is this what it feels like to be a side chick?" She teases, walking forward as she heard the rushing footsteps behind her.
"I never said that." Bellamy explained, Cass looking up as she caught a rare sight. Rebel King was smiling.
"It smiles! Better document this before it goes away." She says with a small laugh before looking ahead.
The brunette noticed that Wells kept his eyes on Clarke and Finn, his body seeming tense. She felt an aura bursting off of him, jealousy? That's what she was picking up. Bellamy seemed intrigued, for he stepped closer to Wells and, being the apparent side chick, Cass stepped forward. "Looks like we have more in common than meets the eye." He said to Wells, and she instantly predicted some sort of heated fight.
The Chancellor's son huffed, his eyes on the ground. "We have nothing in common." Wells tried to reason, not sounding pleased whatsoever.
"No?" Bellamy asks, almost surprised. "We both came down here to protect someone we love." Another silence fell among them, Cass's lips pursing together at the tension in the air. "You're secret's safe with us."
"Us?" Wells looked past Bellamy, noticing Cass as she gave a small wave. Wells returned it before returning back to his natural stance, his eyes facing back towards the ground.
"'Course," Bellamy began. Oh no...Bellamy. "It's worse. With Finn around, Clarke doesn't even see you. It's like you're not even here."
Wells movement slowed, but Bellamy and Cass just kept going. "Not leader material." She hissed, glancing back at Wells to only feel a pang in her chest to see the heartbreak in his eyes.
"He's Jaha's son," Bellamy argued. "He deserved it."
"Just because his dad isn't all that great, doesn't mean Wells is, too."
For what must've been the hundredth time, Bellamy stopped Cass by grabbing her bicep. It wasn't forceful or hard, it was a gentle tug, something to tell her to stop moving. "You really can't see the bad in people, can you?"
She moved her arm from his grip, but instantly regretted it when a chilly breeze hit the once warm spot. "I try not to, though with Murphy, that's like Mission Impossible."
"What's Mission Impossible?" Bellamy asks, Cass rolling her eyes at the question as if it was like asking "what's two plus two".
"It was a spy movie from 1996," she quickly explained, gesturing for them to keep walking. And they did.
----------
"Hey," Murphy spoke up, the gravel crunching beneath the six's feet and the rushing water breaking any silences. "How do we know we're going the right way?"
The soon to be silence was quickly shut down by Bellamy. "We don't," he says over the rushing water. "Spacewalker thinks he's a tracker."
It was Wells' turn to speak up, though his voice came out in a hoarse whisper. "It's called a cutting sign, fourth year of Earth Skills. He's using it good."
"Wells, can you keep it down or should I paint a target on your back?" Finn scolds, Cass chuckling at the idea.
"Great, we'll use the blood of a dying member of the one hundred and we'll find the white foam from a squirrel with rabies for the target." Cass mumbled, a scoff heard from in front of her.
"Way to stay positive." Murphy mutters from ahead. "Why don't you also tell us that the Grounders are going to kill us all?" He snaps.
"Watch it, Murphy." Bellamy snaps back, Cass looking up to see him sending an anger-filled glare towards the direction of his second in command.
Finn once again hushes them, Cass watching as his eyes are attracted to a bush. He plays with the branch, only to find it fall with no problem. Clarke kneels beside Finn as he stares at the pebbles below, and from that Cass is unable to hear what the two are mumbling to each other. But, they share a look that sets her nerves on edge. "What did I tell?" Bellamy murmurs towards Wells. "You're invisible."
Taking her elbow, Cass harshly nudged him in the side. She didn't mind the glare she received, she ignored it. Suddenly, a pained moan filled the empty air, and everyone began looking up at the sky. "What the hell was that?" Murphy asks, his eyes also pointed up to the sky.
"Now would be a good time to take that gun." Clarke suggests.
Bellamy looked at Cass, his eyes saying "stay back" before the whole group fell into a single-filed line, Cass staying behind Bellamy as she looked at her surroundings. She felt uneasy, like she was being watched or something like that. Hopefully, that was just a bad feeling in her gut. Finally, they reached a clearing, and she felt like her jaw dropped to the grass.
Jasper was strung up to a moss-covered tree: shirtless, morning in pain.
"Oh my God," Clarke breathed out. "Jasper!"
"He probably can't reply." Cass mumbled, keeping close to the group as they approached the tree.
"The hell is this?" Bellamy asked.
Cass noticed the ground in front of Clarke, it looked off, too neat. "Clarke!" She cries out before pushing her to the side, the ground falling beneath her feet. A shrill cry left her lips before a hand caught her hand and wrist, and all she did was look down to the see the bloody-knife covered ground below her. Her breath quickened, her pants becoming heavy and labored, and as she looked up, she noticed Bellamy was the one holding on to her.
"Don't let go," he mumbles over the cries of the boys behind him to pull her up.
"Are you kidding me? Side chick isn't going out today." Cass grunted as she let her hand grab on to his own, holding on for dear life as the rest of the group held on to Bellamy. They began grunting as they worked together to hoist her up, which they managed to do. Her body collided with the grass, some twigs crunching beneath her as she closed her eyes. "You okay?" Wells asked, Cass holding up an "okay" symbol with her hand.
"Peachy." She said breathlessly.
She got herself back on her feet, her pants slowly subsiding into regulated breaths before looking back at the tree. "How the hell do we get over there now? The rest of the area is practically trapped."
"I'll climb up there and cut the vines." Finn suggest, striding over around the knife-filled hole.
Behind her, Cass noticed Wells nodding slightly in agreement. "I'll go with you."
Hearing his words, Finn immediately turned around. "No." He suddenly stated. "Stay with Clarke." His eyes then went to Bellamy. "Watch him." He added.
His eyes flicked between Cass, Bellamy, Wells, and Clarke before he turned back to the tree. "You," he said, stopping and turning to look at Murphy. "Lets go."
All eyes turned to Murphy, as he looked at Bellamy for help, help he didn't get. Murphy trudged to Finn's side. "There's a poultice on his wound." Clarke observes.
"If there is," Wells starts, "Why would they put a poultice on his wound if they're going to string him up as live bait."
"Maybe they were just trying to catch their next dinner." Bellamy suggests.
"Or maybe what they were just trying to catch is us." Finn adds.
Cass sighed heavily, rubbing her hands together before looking back up from the hole towards the rest of the group. "Or maybe they just wanted to send a message."
A sense of fear fell among the group, and Cass just wanted to cling to her brother for dear life.
----------
"Be careful!" Clarke calls, the whole group watching nervously as the two boys work together to release the pained criminal from his current stance.
As the group watches anxiously, a sound blares from within the woods. Perhaps a horn? A wild animal? Cass wasn't too sure. But whatever it was, it sent a chill up her spine, an an unpleasant feeling settled over her.
"What the hell was that?" Murphy snaps, all heads turning from the spot of the tree.
The part of the group that was on the ground was shifting, Cass especially as she began to circle around her. "Grounders?" Bellamy suggests, all Cass did was shake her head.
"But it doesn't seem like they would announce themselves like that." She mutters.
Just then, she could hear footsteps behind her, and a low growl. It wasn't human, that's for sure. And when she turned around, it sure as hell wasn't on two legs. She's always read about panthers, and she always wanted to encounter one. But not like this.
It suddenly began charging towards them, and Cass took her stance in front of Clarke. It seemed to have its eyes on her, and now way was she letting Clarke die yet. She mig not personally like the girl yet, but she doesn't want any blood on her hands. Not now, not ever.
"Bellamy, gun." Clarke cries out, but no gun shots could be heard.
Cass looks over and sees him patting where the gun should be, and noticing him come empty handed. "Where's the damn gun, Bellamy?" Cass yells before jumping at the sound of bullets.
Both girls, and Bellamy, turn their heads to see Wells with the gun, shooting it and succeeding in hitting the animal. It lets out a whimper before disappearing into the bushes, the rustling surrounding Bellamy. Once knowing that Clarke was safe, Cass jumped in front of Bellamy. "What the hell are you doing?" He scolds.
"Saving your ass." She hisses back.
The rustling died down, only a silence to fall among them. Everyone was still, not a movement was made, until the animal suddenly jumped from the bushes, about to claw the life out of the two, before a gunshot rang out, shooting the animal to the ground before it laid still. Cass looked over to see Wells keep on shooting the gun, only to have nothing come out.
The gun was useless, but at least they had some food now. "Now she sees you." Bellamy says breathlessly. Wells glances at Clarke before looking back at the dead animal.
"Lets free Jasper and get the hell out of here!" Cass suggests, faking the excitement in her voice.
