Chapter 1
Wind Dancers POV- yes, I'm gonna have you be able to hear the horses thoughts!
I was trotting around in the big pasture, liking the way the grass felt on my hooves. I was unlike all the other horses around here. I looked different, acted different, and have been to many places. I remember being with my mom. We would be racing each other on the sandy beaches were I grew up, under the blazing hot sun.
But here, I could only race myself, on the soft, green grass. It seemed so painfully different from where I came from. I could here my mothers words in my head,
Don't let anyone change you. Be who you are, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Your going to be great one day, although I won't be there with you. Now don't hurt anyone, be gentle. And act mature!
My mom believed that we should never harm people. Always to be kind. And I have always kept my word to her. And I still do intend on keeping that promise. As I ran around the wide pasture, I could feel the wind whistling through my ears, and softly cooling my dark-colored coat like a blanket of silk. My mane and tail flying behind me as I raced around the pasture. I neighed happily, shaking my big head around in the air.
I galloped faster loving the gracefulness in which I moved. I've always wanted to be a dressage horse when I used to watch my mom do it when I was a yearling. But ever since I've moved here with new owners, I didn't, and still don't, think that I would ever accomplish that dream. I looked over at the big building currently coming into my view. In one of its windows was a little head. Mostly likely just watching us horses out here, but when I took a closer look, I noticed that that head was staring at me!
I stopped running around and stuck to a graceful-like trot. I arched my neck, trying to make myself look fancy. It seemed to come naturally. It probably came from my mom, she seemed to arch her neck during her dressage lessons a lot very effortlessly. I heard a faint noise in the distance. I stopped trotting and lifted my head up high just to see what made the noise. The rumbling came closer and soon a car showed into my view.
The rusty red truck stopped a little away from the house by which I stood near. A man in a black heavy-like coat and loose jeans stepped out of the truck. He gave a look at me, his eye held a twinkle of interest in them. I stood staring, not wanting to look away, challenging the man. "Come here boy," the man said as he walked up to the old, brown, fence and laid his arms on it. I walked up to him, giving a snort, shaking my head while doing so.
He laughed. I walked closer, nudging his arm gently. He pet my nose, and scratched ever-so-gently behind my ears. I neighed in contentment, liking where he was scratching. I looked straight into the man's eyes, studying him, while he seemed to be doing the same to me. The girl who I noticed in the window earlier came rushing out of the house, the door slamming loudly as she was running out. "Daddy!" She shrieked, "I know what I want to name him."
The main sighed, looked to the girl, and asked, "What?"
"I want to name him Wind Dancer," she said panting out of breath, "you should've seen him earlier. He can run so fast! And he's always so graceful! Like a dancer!" The man laughed, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Is that so Ally?" The girl, who I just found out is called Ally, nodded excitedly.
"I want to ride him. Can I?" Ally asked.
"We don't know if this horse can be ridden yet Ally."
"He doesn't look harmful to me."
"But he could be and you know it."
"Well couldn't we get someone to give it a go so we know," Ally reasoned.
"We could," the man who I now assumed would be her father. Why I didn't assume that earlier when she was screaming 'Daddy' I would probably have no idea. Now I know your thinking that I'm stupid, but I'm actually really smart. Trust me. The man continued, "But it would have to wait till tomorrow. It's almost supper time. There's no time to get someone to look at him today."
Ally sighed sadly, "ok," she whispered. The man patted on top of her head as he walked into the house. By now some of the other lazy horses came over, probably seeing if Ally had any treats for them. By now even I thought I was being lazy. I'm spending my free time standing here when I could be running! I turned around and started to gallop across to the other side of the pasture, where it was much colder.
My hooves beated in a steady rhythm as I galloped. I turned sharply to the right, kicking up some dirt-grass that my hoove must've torn up. I wish I had a friend in here, I thought, I'd be more happy. I heard a snap. I froze and pricked my ears and slowly stood still. The sound came again, but to the left of me, I was sure. I turned my head. I spotted a grey head in some long pieces of grass. It was a rabbit!
Of course, I should've thought that it could've been a rabbit earlier since this is where all the rabbits are mostly found. The sun soon started coming down and I noticed that Ally wasn't outside anymore. I searched for a spot to sleep at for the night. I looked around and finally found a nice sheltered area. I slowly walked over to it, and I noticed how the other horses were at the same spot where they were eating at earlier. At least I'll be a bit more warm than them, and I would get a peaceful night of sleep yet again.
A/N: So how was that for chapter one? I hope I did good, and have a happy day!
