Chapter 1: Missing

"And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I ran all night and day
And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I couldn't get away"

It was Tuesday, August 18, 1983.  Officially four days since Victoria Parker disappeared.  Two days, since she was filed as a missing person.  Anthony didn't say anything as he looked at the push pin board in the school hallway, staring back at his sisters face on the piece of paper.

Never would he have thought that his own sister, his kid sister would be one of those faces on a Missing piece of paper.  He walked away from it, adjusting his strap on his shoulder as he saw people looking at him and whispers being thrown around.

"You good?"  Tommy asked and Steve gave him a look.

"His sister is missing dumbass and you ask if he's good?  Shit.  I shouldn't of said that, sorry Tony."  Steve apologized.

"It's fine."  He mumbled, looking across the hall to his sisters locker.

"Is there anything that we can do to help?"  Steve asked and Anthony shook his head.

"No.  I'm a...going to go look for her.  There's some spots that I know she likes to hang out to be alone.  But no.  I-I need to go actually."  Anthony's mind was everywhere and he swore his brain was actually spinning.

"Did you tell Stacy?" Steve asked and Anthony shook his head. "No. I'm sure she doesn't mind me skipping especially the reason." Anthony scratched the back of his neck nervously. Completely forgetting about his girlfriends existence all together.

"I really do need to go." Anthony looked at Steve and quickly turned around, not paying attention to where he was going, hitting someone in the shoulder.

"Sorry man."  Anthony had his hand out before he made his way down the hall, ignoring the stares and out the school.  Jonathan, who stayed where he was at watched the Parker sibling leave before his eyes went back to the board, looking at his friends Missing poster.

Victoria hummed to herself as she sat up against a tree, hugging her knees tightly to her chest as she kept looking from left to right. "It's not real. It's not real. It's not real." She kept repeating and then she smiled to herself.

"Remember when you showed me to jump off a swing? And when I-I went to do it I fell flat on my face?" She laughed quietly as she talked to herself.

"You ran towards me and helped me up. I didn't even cry but as I looked up at you with a few scratches on my face I asked if I did it right." She held her legs even closer to her chest.

"I refused to leave the park until I could land on my feet. Even though you said I did it, I jumped seven times that day. That means six times I landed on my face." Victoria stopped talking as she looked at the darkness around her. "And of course mother scolded me and pointing her finger. 'Oh, Victoria. Why must you be stubborn'. How was I being stubborn if I wanted to learn?" Her eyebrows ruffled for a moment before her eyes widened as she heard some type of screeching in the distance.

"Quiet." She told herself, slamming her hands on the ground as she felt the leaves below her palms. She heard the screeching again and she mumbled to herself. "Maybe fifteen seconds. But could be ten." She whispered to herself yet again and she breathed out deeply.

"Go...now."

She scrambled onto her feet and bolted to the left, her hand pushing off the tree trunk, in hopes that it would give her a push. She heard the screeching once again and the sound of pounding hit her ears.

"Right." She whispered and ran to the right, going through a few trees and she continued to run, her knotted her hitting against her face.

"Right." She whispered again and missed a tree, scattering on her feet as she almost slipped on the floor below her feet.

"Duck." Was her last whisper before she slid down, squeezing into an opening in a tree trunk. Once she got in she stayed complete still and silent as her chest puffed in and out.

She saw the legs of the creature right in front of her along with the clicking. She watched it before it ran off, sighing with relief she looked at the little particles flying all around her.

"Where am I?" She mumbled as tears started to build in her eyes.

"VICTORIA PARKER!  ARE YOU OUT HERE?!"  A police officer shouted as flashlights were flickering all over the woods.  Dogs were barking as people from all ages were looking around.

"Tony!"  Steve yelled as he caught up to his best friend.

"You're here?"  Anthony questioned.

"Of course. She's your sister and...my friend." Steve stuffed his hands in his pockets.

"Thanks." Anthony smiled softly as the two walked side by side. "Hey!" A new voice filled the two's ears. The two turned their heads to the left, seeing Heather and Stacy.

"We'll find her Anthony." She placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. Anthony just nodded. "I know." He sighed as Steve turned on his flashlight, moving it around. Stacy didn't say anything as she just gave her boyfriend a comforting smile, not really knowing what to do in this situation.

Anthony was analyzing the woods carefully as Heather and Stacy were talking but he didn't bother paying attention. Steve was talking to them as well but he seemed to tune him out as well. As he looked around he saw Jonathan Byers walking a few feet away. Anthony never really talked to him, he knew his sister was friends with him, but Steve hated him for some reason. Called him weird, poor, all those things.

A police dog started to bark, bringing his attention back to what was going on as it started to rain. "I think they found something." Heather said, mostly to herself as her eyes widened a bit.

"WE FOUND SOMETHING!" An officer shouted. That's all it took for Anthony to start running, making his way through the people out there. The dog continued to bark while Chief Hopper was there first, he kneeled down and picked up the jean jacket.

Anthony came to a quick stop as he looked down, his eyes widening as he looked what was in the Chief's hands. "That's Tori's." He said as Hopper looked to the boy.

"Oh, my god." Heather mumbled as her hand flew to her mouth.

Steve pointed his flashlight at it, his lips parted slightly as he analyzed it. It was Tori's and it was the same jacket she wore that night at his party. "Is that blood?" Steve asked, gulping.

Stacy placed a comforting hand on Anthony's back, rubbing it slightly as she looked at him worriedly then to the jacket. Her stomach twisted with knots as she turned her head away from the scene.

"Is my baby ok?" Mrs. Parker shouted as she looked at the Chief then at what he was holding. She let out a scream as she saw blood on it.

"Oh, my god!" Mr. Parker breathed out as he shakily took a step forward.

Chief Hopper handed the jacket to another office and placed his hands on his hips as he looked from the distraught family to the woods further. So far, nothing good. "What now Chief?" An officer asked. "We keep looking. What do you think? Take The Parkers back home, they should get some rest." He said then continued to walk.

"I'm fine. I'm staying." Anthony told an officer while another was walking his parents out.

"Anthony." Stacy said softly and he looked at her, shaking his head. "I'm fine." He reassured her.

Steve looked at his friend worriedly as he could see tears building up in his eyes. Heather looked somewhere else, not knowing what to do while Anthony watched the officer place the jacket in an evidence bag. "You know what they say, don't you?" Anthony asked.

"What is it Tony?" Steve asked, worried clear in his voice as he finally met his eyes.

"Parents usually get a divorce when one of their children dies..."
