Chapter 9-Mina
I load my bow at the trill of a bird. Maybe I can catch Emmett a little breakfast. I silently observe the forest for the location of the sound. Swinging around, I find a young rabbit nibbling at some green shoots, unaware of my presence. Taking aim, I shoot it through the heart with careful precision. I do not enjoy death, and I don't want the creature to suffer.
On the way home, I find a berry bush bursting with tart, crisp berries. I pop a few in my mouth, puckering at the sourness, but enjoying the food in my stomach all the same. Suddenly, I hear a rustle from a nearby bramble bush. I slowly slide my hand-crafted stone machete from its scabbard and creep closer, my mind racing. Could it be another Gone? A mutant? Or just a harmless animal? I uncover the source, and scream.
