Golden Wing

In a land of magic where everyone is dancing to the tunes of nature, they never knew that a big threat was waiting at the door to enter soon.

Maleficent had her eyes on a fairy land that was distant from her own. She lost her wings in the mere act of loving a human who never deserved her love in the first place. Her love-filled heart turned into a rock that held vengeance. But she not only held vengeance. She also started to envy the fairies with wings. She started to miss her wings so badly that she wanted to possess them no matter what. But the majestic, elegant wings that she had are such an exceptional piece that cannot be found easily. She started to look for wings that could suit her so that she could again break the clouds and fly high just the way she used to.

The search of that wing laid her eyes on our fairy land. Our fairy land is a land of colors. We lived in peace and joy with a mutual understanding and friendship between all kinds of fairies that coexisted in harmony. I lived in a gaint mushroom like Haven, which was literally heavenly. I loved to spend each of my nights there. I had a brownie with me, which was the cutest being and my closest friend. He is small, dressed in rags, and has an elongated nose. He was too shy to appear before me, and he did all my household chores with ease. Though he didn't have a vivid presence, I love him for everything he does for me. I also had an ethereal-looking fey creature with me who had an alluring beauty in her wings. Her wings are shimmery golden, and they reflect every bit of light that falls on them. She is known for her captivating wings that attract all the beauty that ever existed, and even Maleficent was not an exception. Maleficent gained insight into the presence of such an elegant wing that made her greedy. She wanted to attain it no matter what.

But little did she know that the fey creature is my friend, whom I will never lose, no matter what. Her wings held her life, which made it so lively and ethereal. If the wing was chopped, she would cease to live. I will never allow that to happen.

Maleficent made her way to our fairy land to get my friend's wings, no matter what, but little did I know that. My friend, brownie, and I resided in our haven, which is at the southernmost border of our fairyland. Our haven was also protected by a set of angels that fly around it with their colored wings.

It was a fine morning. I woke up, left my bed, and got to the living room. My brownie worked all night and cleared up all the mess that I created while trying to create a potion at night. My friend Aara was in the garden watching the flowers bloom with grace in the morning light. I gave her a morning tonic to kick-start the day.

"Hey! Did you sleep well?" She asked with the usual smile that she always wears on her face.

"Yes. But the potion-making was a bit of a mess yesterday. I couldn't do incantations last night, and I don't know the reason why." I said it cluelessly.

"It's okay. Maybe you were tired yesterday. Let's do it together today," she said with a smile that showed genuine support.

"But I never experienced this before. How come a fairy witch lacks her capability of incantations?" I asked with so many thoughts that were going on in my head.

I heard a door knock that killed all the thoughts that had prevailed before. I went to check who it was. Most of the fairies that resided in our fairy land were right before me. I didn't know what that was about.

"What and why are you all here? Is there any issue that needs to be sorted out?" I asked worriedly.

"Maleficent is looking for your friend Aara. Maleficent wants the wing of Aara so badly. She destroyed the peace of our fairy land, and we are here to seek your help." Fairies made a chaotic chorus.

I tried to do incantations again to stop the Maleficent, but the effort was in vain. Maybe Maleficent cast a spell on our fairy land that blocked all our magical powers.

I didn't know what to do or what to say to the fairies who believed that I could save them.

"If our magic failed, I don't know from what we can seek help now." I said it with a broken heart while my brownie made him appear before me for the very first time. He handed me a potion of safety that I created years ago. He preserved it these many years, though I've forgotten its existence. He didn't utter a word but just smiled at me, and that smile made me feel safer than the potion itself.

I cast the potion on my haven, and my whole house was now under the protective barrier.

Maleficent finally made her way to my beautiful mushroom haven. I had never met Maleficent before that moment. She was a beauty that rarely existed. She had a burning eye and a cold heart that didn't want any of us to let go. She had pale skin and a big horn that gave her a deadly look. She might look more ethereal with my friend's wings. She might have gotten this idea from someone, and it was not her entire fault. She lost her wings for her love, and now she was seeking revenge not only from him but from the entire universe. She was trying so hard to break the home from the safety potion while I decided to build a conversation with her.

"Hey! We might have met in a much better scene, but it's still good to see you!" I said this as I tried to be as friendly as possible. I never wanted to win her over. I wanted her cold, frozen heart to melt for the abundant love that is present in our land.

"I am not glad to meet you. I will be glad if it's your friend that I am talking to. I want to see the wings that I am going to own soon." She said it with an evil look.

"You think you want it because you don't have it. But it's not what you want. You want revenge, and you are angry with every living being that exists in this universe. But your vengeance will not bring any good to you." I said this as I was trying to convince her not to attack us.

"You think I will fall for sweet words again? Never gonna happen again; never gonna feel pity for anything." She said, and she started trying harder to get in by breaking the protective barrier.

"I am not trying to stop you. I am trying to heal you with my words. You are destroying yourself with your vengeance. If you get the wings, will it bring peace to you?" I asked.

"I am not looking for peace. I can't find it anyway. I want the wings that I lost. I want to fly again to feel the tight slaps that the air is gonna give me while flying. It should remind me that I am lost in my love game, and I should never ever trust anyone again." She said.

Aara came forward and looked at Maleficent. She was not angry with her; instead, she felt pity for her loss.

"You think that my wing can make your life better?" Aara asked Maleficent with a sorrowful look on her face.

"Are you gonna lend me if I say yes?" Maleficent mocked her.

"Yes! I am content with the life that I have had. If the end of my life is going to bring peace and joy to someone, I am happy to give my wings to you that hold my life." She said this while stepping forward to reach the door.

Maleficent might have never expected this. We all tried to stop her. She didn't listen to any of us. She wanted to help Maleficent, though she was trying to kill her.

She brought herself out of the protective barrier. She was ready to lend her life, believing that it might heal a broken soul.

"Don't you want a long life?" Maleficent asked, confused.

"I want a valuable life. I was always praised for my beauty on the wings, but I rarely use it. I never felt it was so special or valuable. I never had a chance to help someone. If my wing will bring peace to you and heal you from all the thoughts of vengeance, I would like to give it to you. Maybe my wing has been destined to be yours someday." She said, still with a smile, that she held on forever.

Maleficent could not utter a word. It took her a minute to realize what she was doing. She realized that what she was doing was nothing different from her bitter experiences.

"I don't want charities. I... I can't accept it. Maybe she was right. I don't want wings. I just want to take revenge on everything that is alive. I can't do it now, as it's not revenge anymore. Your selfless nature made me feel that I was evil." She said it with a sorrowful look.

"You are not evil. You are just broken, and maybe we can amend your broken soul. Let's live together in our fairyland, where we have peace and joy in abundance." I said as I extended her support to be with us.

"No! You people are so kind, and you deserve only good beings. I never felt so bad before. I am sorry for all the troubles I caused you. I will never disturb your fairyland ever again." She said that and started to leave my haven.

"But you always have a home here where you can come whenever you want!" I said it aloud and bid farewell to her.

She visited often after that, and now we are a family of four.
