Chapter 20

That day past by in a blur of happy carefree laughter and warm gestures. And she could suddenly comprehend why all these people were beloved to Jungkook.

Now as they sat on the dining table, Sae slowly realized what actually a home was. In her house, dinners and lunches were frequent nightmares filled with yells and jabs and absolutely no warmth. Then, she had thought that every family was like that, maybe that's why she had found no fault in Chaesuk.

He was as cold and unbothered as her parents and by thinking that she at least may have found her love, she was just jumping into another relationship like her parents. The sudden realization left a bitter taste in her mouth.

She watched in awe as Jungkook hip bumped Taehyung lightly to push him out of the way in order to heat their dishes, as Taehyung laughed in exasperation obliging almost immediately. Smiles were as frequent as their breaths; Jimin's humming made up for Yoongi's slight snores on their couch while Jin's jokes made the younger one's laugh.

She had never heard Jungkook laugh that loudly before. Head thrown back, eye crinkled and eyes puffed and disappearing.

Hoseok was sitting on the kitchen counter, which overlooked the dining hall where Sae was sitting while Jin and the maknaes strolled around, getting dinner ready. The air was warm and filled to the brim with laughter and smell of fresh food. Sae was happy yet bewildered. Was this a normal household like?

"Why didn't the Egyptian pharaoh propose to this girl he liked?" Jin asked another one of his jokes, paying no head to the wheezing and the pain the others were going through because of the laughter. "Do you know why Sae?"Jin suddenly called her to attention and she shook her head smiling softly.

"Because he was in de-Nile." Jin smirked . Just a second later Jimin was on the floor laughing

"Aigoo, you should smile like that more often. See? It makes you more pretty but not as petty as me obviously," Jin ranted making her laugh into her hands, "Don't you agree? I'm the most good looking man." Jin gloated and this time Sae cracked up wholeheartedly, laughter ringing through her, genuine and out like if it wasn't out in the world, it would choke her.

It was when she recovered from her laughter she noticed the silence in the room.

"What?" She asked nervously fiddling with her thumbs, avoiding their stares.

"Nothing." Jungkook murmured and Sae looked up to see a soft smile on his lips and she smiled back nervously.

"They are staring at you because of your laughter." Yoongi mumbled bluntly, opening one of his eyes to look at Sae before promptly closing them.

Confused and she looked towards the others but almost immediately all of them looked away.

Dinner with Jiwoo and the other six members were warmer than any dinner she had been to. Teasing remarks and Yoongi's blunt savageness aimed at everybody except his boyfriend and Sae accentuated the conversation and kept it running in its own subtle way. When the food was served-rice, side dishes and kimchi- had seemed too much but had disappeared almost immediately into the ravenous men's mouths.

"I'm going to name my sonmmh~" Taehyung spoke around a mouthful of cabbage kimchi, "-Kimchi."

Sae snorted as she ate, most of the member's face contorted into flat expressions that showed familiarity to Taehyung's random idioticness.

Sae watched with raised eyebrows suddenly as Jungkook suddenly reached over an placed a bit of meat into Sae's bowl of rice. "Eat." Jungkook gestured toward her plate at Sae's questioning stare before looking away promptly. But Sae merely grinned at the Younger's embarrassed blush.

"Aigoo you're so-" Sae leaned forward and ruffled his hair cooing but cut off herself off when the younger's eyes snapped towards hers, the sheer dominance in them sending her back to her seat. It was when Jungkook's eyes flicked over his hyungs that Sae realized the attention they had garnered unknowingly.

"You know kookie doesn't let anybody touch him like that except for us." Jiwoo grinned at Sae and Sae felt the sudden need to clear things up with the others at the smiles they other boys were hiding by deliberately chewing on their food.

"Well, I'm his physiotherapist. I'm pretty sure he's gotten comfortable around me too. Right Jungkook-ah?" Sae asked smiling understandingly while Jungkook looked at her blankly.

'Is she serious?' Taehyung mouthed at him and Jungkook's eyes glared at Tae to shut it.

"Y-yeah. That's probably it." Jin smiled, looking flabbergasted at the girl's obliviousness while Yoongi snickered into his hand.

Trrring!

The sound of the doorbell sounded through room and eight faces jumped into relieved smiles.

"Finally that Idi-Sae what's wrong?" Hoseok started only to change his sentence when he noticed Sae's trembling from where she was seated right beside him.

"Noona." Jungkook was in front of her, turning her around so he could kneel in front of her shaking body, gentle hands cupping her slender ones comfortingly as he spoke, "What's wrong?"

"N-no." Sae shut her eyes tightly as a thousand screams and thoughts ran at rapid fire through her brian, not making any sense other than that gut wrenching palpable pain that shot up straight through her like a cannon ball on fire.

"I asked what's wrong." Jungkook asserted firmly, his commanding tone anchoring her somehow.

"Chae." Sae gasped put and jumped forward startled as another ring sounded followed by sounds of a fist pounding on the door repeatedly, spurring Sae's fear even more. "He's coming. He came." Sae whispered trembling more harshly against Jungkook's arms.

She was hyper aware of her surrounding as she saw Hoseok hesitantly move towards the door, trying to open it without Sae noticing.

"No!" Sae yelled throwing a hand out towards him and the elder man froze.

"Open!" A muffled voice came from beyond the door and everybody breathed in, recognizing the voice as their leader's but Sae who was lost in a sea of fear and anxiety could only identify it as Chaesuk's.

"Please don't give me to him. Please don't leave me." Sae chanted feverishly, weak to her stomach as she leaned forward to rest her sweat laden head onto Jungkook's shoulder. "Please."

Jungkook gulped down the lump in his throat as he heard her broken voice as she pleaded. His eyes met Yoongi's and the elder broke into action as he dialed somebody's number.

"Hey Namjoon, there's a sort of a situation in her so please wait outside for five minutes...No it'll only take a few minutes, no need to go back to your studio....yeah I'll open the door in a few. Yeah I'll call you if it's gonna take more time. Yeah." Yoongi conversed in his softest voice possible then hung up following Namjoon's reply. Yoongi nodded at Jungkook and he breathed in sigh of relief.

He knew he was asking too much of them because of Sae, but he couldn't help it. He couldn't live without any of them.

Jungkook slowly smoothed down Sae's hair down in soft motions and hummed a soft tune under his breath. He drowned out the soft whispers of the others and only focused on Sae's breathing which slowly started to even out as he hummed.

"I'm never going to let you go." Jungkook promised softly, the words only strung between them, small yet so strong. "He's gone. He won't come back. I promise."

Sae slowly lifted her head up to meet Jungkook's eyes and he smiled reassuringly in return. Jungkook watched as the haze in Sae's eyes slowly cleared and she realized her surroundings.

"I'm sorry." Sae visibly looked embarrassed at thought of the pathetic show she must've made of herself in front of the other member's. She had disrupted such a lively dinner for godsakes.

Guilt and sadness beat an endless turmoil in her, wetness gathering in her eyes as she realized how utterly weak, defenseless and useless she must've been in front of them.

Whatever was she good for?

"Sae, Noona its...." Taehyung started and then softly trailed off as he watched the girl slowly leave the table and towards her room, the shame and sadness palpable as a bright summer sky around her. "..okay."
