Chapter 11

Sae walks, sighing contently as hand in hand with her boyfriend as they walked toward the nearest soju bar.

The texture of fingers are familiar, rough yet warm but the grip is not. It wasn't the fragile grip he had used on her before they began dating. It was not long as those moments either.

The man who Chaesuk had become, was a totally different person from the one she had fallen in love with. Chaesuk never brought her flowers except for the time when he had shoved that ring on her finger. At that time, she was so happy, the way the single stone of diamond caught the light, shining in a way that reminded her of the love for him and fitting on her finger like it was supposed to be there.

But as the amount of bruises and harsh words grew, Sae noticed how tight the ring had become, digging onto her skin, the diamond, interfering with her work and everything she loved. Literally and metaphorically.

But she was not the one to give up on relationships. According to her, Love was all about staying on each other's times of sadness and happiness. So she didn't want to give up on someone she loved at the first sign of trouble, she didn't want to be lonely either. Chaesuk must be sad or going through a tough time right now so that must be why he was venting out on her right? After all what could she do other than this even if it meant getting hurt.

She knew the Chaesuk she loved and cherished would come back to her, waking her up in the morning showering her with kisses instead of waking upto the cold embrace of air she received everyday.

She believed it with all her heart, even as Chaesuk pried off her fingers from his, shaking it off like fungi as he attended a call in hushed whispers, even as her heart panged, she found excuses and defended him against her own mind.

Chaesuk was nice. And she had to support him through this hard time.

It was with these thoughts, they shared a silent and almost cold and cheap dinner despite the scorching food. Even though Sae had decided to endure and support Chae, she couldn't deny the stress it was having upon her mental health. So to ease away her worries and the guilty thoughts of a certain younger and the way he had held her when she broke apart, she drank.

She drank, at first relishing the bitter sour and stinging taste of Soju as it went down her throat then more as she began relishing the temporary seemingly laughing gas filled cotton that smothered her sense, a blank wall against her sane thoughts.

Within minutes, she was giggling and slapping Chae on the arm, mumbling drunkenly not noticing her fiance's disgusted look. She went on for a while, giggling and words spilling over her tongue like a waterfall, just about Jungkook, Jungkook and Jungkook.

And before she knew it, she was thrust back into Korea's chilly night air, the familiar rough grip on her wrist but this time it hurt more.

"Suk-ah, It hurts." Sae whimpered, tears brimming at the corner of her eyes, even though her mind didn't actually process anything. "Let me go."

"Let you go huh?" Chae sneered into her face as she flinched back, trying to squirm out of his grip but to no avail. "Let you go so you can fuck that Jungkook?"

Sae began pouting but she couldn't just register what he had just said but somewhere inside her, the familiarity of the situation rung warning bells inside her.

"Answer me Sae!" Chaesuk yelled and Sae flinched.

Just because she wanted to please her boyfriend, even though she couldn't understand what he said, she nodded.

But suddenly instead of smiles, her jaw was harshly gripped by the fingers she had loved so much and slammed against the brick wall, so hard she saw stars.

"Chae-" She began, sobbing in pain and despair as she couldn't understand what she did wrong, the alcohol was making everything worse too. Her head was ringing, she was dizzy and the only thing that grounded her at that moment, funnily enough was the hard metal twin of her ring digging into the skin of her jaw as Chaesuk held her angry and completely somber.

"I'm going to teach you a listen bitch."

Then Sae remembers nothing.

But that was the day everything in her life changed.
