5SOS Michael Clifford

okay so this post is to give huge respect to michael clifford, which i'm sure he didn't do for the publicity or public approval anyway. i always just think too that he must have probably heard about kpop idols more since he's australian and the country is so close to the asian speaking nations.

this was a big deal for me because it was a part of my past colliding with a part of my present. i don't know if many of you are aware, but i used to be a HUGE 5sos fan.

i used to write fanfics about them as far back as 2013.

i even take huge pride in mentioning that one of my 5sos fics has surpassed 2 million reads on here. but that's not the point right now.

i just want to talk about michael clifford.

honestly, i loved all of them back then. but if i had to rank them, michael wasn't on my list of top faves. i'm going to be super brutally honest and admit that he was last on my bias list. not because i hated the guy. its just, SOMEONE had to be last. my bias in the group was ashton, then calum, then luke, and then michael. but now i think that i'm rethinking making michael my bias and i will certainly hold him in the pedestal of my very fond memories for this.

okay so, nbc chicago talked about jonghyun's passing. but they did it in such a disrespectful way that just thinking about it still makes me fucking angry. i mean, they didn't even check their facts and showed clips of bts' namjoon as though he were jonghyun. to me that is super disrespectful because come on guys. it would have taken seconds to type in "jonghyun" on fucking google or whatever the fuck is their preferred search engine and get at least ACCURATE images and videos of him. but they clearly didn't care enough to do their research and just showed any fucking clip they could find. i see that as a lack of empathy. a lack of fucking humanity.

it was disrespectful to jonghyun, AND namjoon.

they later corrected themselves and apologized, but still. they could have avoided this whole mess if they would have just CHECKED THEIR FACTS.

but anyway, here came michael clifford to the rescue though.

he quoted a tweet where this girl was talking about the news story and she added the video of it. there were clips and images of namjoon being shown. and this is what he said about it through twitter, "this is so fucking disrespectful. i have always been frustrated by the media's lack of fact checking; (which could have taken minutes of research) this is straight up offensive to everyone involved. respect him in the right way or don't at all. i'm very sorry about jonghyun."

honestly, BIG respect to him.

he didn't even know jonghyun. it was probably a news story that didn't concern him. but he had that solidarity with us as a kpop fandom and as shawols.

that just meant the entire world to me as a former 5sos fam.
