today i learned something that i was surprised about. but i was honestly proud because things that connect korea, or any of my favorite artists, with mexico or the spanish language makes me very happy. in this case its the spanish language.

i was watching a memorial video for jonghyun earlier.

and the person used a video of him at one of the shinee world concerts. and i'm guessing it was his solo stage, where he sings a cover of alejandro sanz "y si fuera ella", only the lyrics are changed and he uses the word "hyeya" instead of "ella" in spanish. and the whole thing is in korean of course. in the comments in youtube, korean fans can't seem to accept that he says "ella" in the song, which keeps the essence of the original.  they also seem unaware that the song belongs to alejandro sanz. but to each his own.

thats not even the point i want to make. 

when i listened to the song in the fanmade memorial video, i swear a light bulb went off in my head and i thought to myself, "i know this song from somewhere."

so i searched the web until i found more information. and i found out that bit about how its by alejandro sanz. i should have known, since the instrumental sounded very...spanish to me. the type of music my people would listen to. a very sin bandera or camila type of feel, if you ask me. so i looked for it and listened to it in spanish and childhood memories came flooding in. 

anyway i searched for jonghyun's full version online and i watched it and i was so moved by how passionately he performed this song. it made me so proud that he knew and even took the time to translate and adapt a song i have known since i was a child. a very moving song already. but he just put so much emotion into it.

alejandro sanz would be proud, and jealous that jonghyun sings it so well.

update. i searched online and apparently alejandro sanz did hear about this two years ago and he thought it was a beautiful cover. also super random, but the 18th of december was alejandro sanz' birthday. 

anyway, i have fallen even more in love with jonghyun and his voice.

he was so talented.

i have the song "ella" (jonghyun's cover) on replay right now. to be honest, i think he sings it better than alejandro sanz. not trying to bash alejandro.

i have been listening to his music since i was a kid.

but jonghyun was just on another level.

right below im going to post the original version, as well as jonghyun's version. both are really nice. but in my personal opinion, jonghyun sings it better.
