9. Avoidance

holy. I updated. hi!

WHATS UP YOU LOVELY PEOPLE?

🌻

Brendon had stayed with Tyler all morning. He wasn't willing to leave his side. Knowing Tyler could easily slip into his smaller headspace and he wanted to be there for him. Tyler was still nervous and consciously ignoring the fact that he was exuding fake confidence. The moment he'd walked into school he'd started talking to just about everybody he ran into. He was popular and Brendon had to drag him away from his classmates.

He did that a lot, he didn't like to really think too far into it but he was really good at ignoring his problems. His current one being his english teacher. He had him for 4th period right after lunch, right after basketball practice and Tyler was counting down the hours in his head. He pretended he wasn't, he didn't want to think about it but he was beyond mortified so thinking about an embarrassing conversation with Mr.Dun was freaking him out.

Anybody knowing about his age regression was his worst fear other and having been little in front of his teacher was by far pushing his limits. Other than being exposed as a little he was terrified of failing his parents. He needed to be good for them and make them proud which was his usual mindset. His regression was in his opinion his biggest fault though. He knew it had came along in his sophomore year, he knew he couldn't control it. It was damn near impossible for the brunette to not fall into little space but he was still so against it.

He'd only accepted it a year prior when his friends had all found out. When he'd told them.

🌻

That Monday morning had become a game of hide and seek except Mr.Dun didn't know he was playing. Tyler hadn't meant to run away the first time he'd seen him, it was accidental is what he was telling himself. He was just becoming nervous. His teacher was leaning against some lockers talking to Mrs.Ryan and Tyler had frozen in the middle of the hallway when he'd seen him. Before Mr.Dun even got a chance to see him, Tyler was running back to the safety of Brendon who's locker was luckily for Tyler all the way on the others side if school.

Avoidance was key. Tyler had smiled when he'd gotten away. He wasn't thinking properly but in that moment he was glad to not have spoken to him. He wasn't even sure if Mr.Dun had any questions for him but he didn't care. He had a feeling words would fail him if he was needed in a conversation with him.

The break between second period was the next time he saw him and this time Mr.Dun saw him too. Mr.Dun smiled, Tyler's face fell and his hands tightened around his school supplies, Mr.Dun's facial expression changed to one of concern and without thinking Tyler was speed walking away to the bathroom. Which admittedly felt stupid but he didn't know what else to do. He hadn't been followed though, he'd been left alone.

He had no clue what he was doing at this point. He was just making his case worse.

He walked carefully over to Ashley's locker after a minute or so of hiding in a stall, eyeing the hallways nervously. He was glad to see she was still there gathering books into her arms.

"Hey Ash."

Ashley perked when she heard his voice, smiling at him. "Hey! How're you feeling?" She asked.

Tyler cleared his throat before speaking. "Uh-good."

Ashley glanced at him, not looking convinced. She sighed. "Mr.Dun's looking for you or something by the way."

Tyler went as white as a ghost, instantly feeling awful. "W-what?" He wasn't as slick as he thought he had been in his escapade.

Ashley smiled softly. "Yeah. He said something about you looking sick, said he wanted to know if you were going to make it to class later." Maybe Tyler went pink, having his teacher worry for him was kind of sweet. He liked the thought but then the tint of his cheeks wasn't in admiration but in embarrassed.

He groaned out loud, letting his head hit the locker beside Ashley's.

"I shouldn't have ran away from him." He said quickly, instantly bringing his hand up to his mouth. Out of habit he rested the nail of his thumb on his bottom lip not biting it or anything. Just resting it there incase.

Ashley's eyes widened, she grabbed his hand pulling it away from his mouth. "Wait, hold on a second." Tyler looked at her. "You ran away from your teacher?" She pronounced slowly. Tyler knew she found this all humorous but she wasn't about to laugh at him.

Tyler nodded shyly, instantly feeling smaller by Ashley's tone of voice. She seemed to notice but made no effort to change. "Dude, you can't do that. Of course he's going to worry. That's really weird."

"I just don't want to talk to him. I'm still really fucking embarrassed." Ashley flinched at him swearing. It was weird after spending the weekend with him in little space. He never swore much to begin with. Tyler went to apologize but Ashley was faster.

"You need to get over this." She said softly, gathering her pencil case into the pile of stuff she'd already pulled against her chest. "I know you're all nervous and stuff."

"I'm not." He pouted. Ashley rolled her eyes.

"Brendon told me. Also you're definitely not skipping class. I love Brendon but he's not a good influence fifty percent of the time." She started scolding him. Tyler took it all in. "Either way avoiding this problem that isn't exactly a real problem isn't solving anything. You just need to act like you normally do Ty."

"B-But." Tyler's eyes widened. Mr.Dun was walking down the hallway. Everything Ashley had just said had went in one ear and came out the other. "Oh shit hide me, hide me!"

Ashley turned quickly, twisting Tyler's hand with hers. She squeezed his hand tighter, giving into how ridiculous he was being.

"I can't hide you." She said nearly whispering. Tyler glanced around him, avoiding the weird stares he was getting from his piers. He let go of her her hand, ignoring how close Mr.Dun was getting and ignoring how loud the chatter of the hall was.

"Okay bye." Were his last words before he was turning the corner and making his way to third period. Maybe he ran a little bit but nobody would have to know that and maybe Mr.Dun did see him but nobody would have to know that either.

🌻

Third period was boring and he couldn't stop moving. English class was coming along, ignoring his teacher would be impossible unless he skipped which really wouldn't change anything else other than prolonge his possible death.

He was alone in history class and he couldn't work. The class was boring anyways and he was doing good enough that paying no attention wouldn't be his downfall. The moment the bell rang he was running to his locker. He needed to play basketball before he really did regress. He was on the verge of it, maybe even on the verge of crying at this point. He couldn't tell you why.

He was first in the change room and first out. He was in the gym before his coach even. Students were allowed in the gym during lunch unless like today a school team had practice. They mostly just divided into two teams and played against each other. His coach usually switched it up.

Today they did a short warm up before the whole team was making the best of their lunch practice to just to work on technique. They separated and we're sparse around the gym. Remy didn't seem to really mind. He liked letting them do their own thing.

Tyler ignored everybody and plugged in his headphones for the whole practice. Music so loud that if the constant dribble of basketballs weren't so loud his music could be heard.

He stayed to himself, which wasn't odd for him. His team knew when he needed alone time and he appreciated it. Closer to actual game season Tyler wouldn't get to do this but he would use this free time to his advantage for the moment being.

By the time lunch was just ending and coach was telling them to pack up Tyler was still shooting hoops. A thin layer of sweat masked his skin, his hair was matted down and he was so into it he barely heard the guy talking to him.

"Joseph, you comin' bro?" It was Pete. That's who he recognized him as. Tyler took out an ear bud and used the back of his hand to wipe some sweat off his forehead. Pete's hair was pink, Tyler absolutely admired him for it. He was by far more excited than anyone else on the team was when he'd shown up with it at the end end of last year. Which admittedly was slightly embarrassing but most found it endearing. Tyler slipped sometimes. Who could blame him.

He shook his head. "Maybe in five minutes."

Pete nodded in understanding. This was why Tyler liked him. He was probably the nicest guy on the team. "Alright dude. C'ya." He waved and Tyler tried to smile but stopped when he realized it was useless.

When Pete left he was completely alone and he couldn't move off the center line of the gym. He has planted himself down and god he felt stuck. There was a pull to go to class especially knowing that he was currently late. The bell had wrung meaning his perfect attendance record was gone for the semester.

He stared at the net for a while unable to move. He felt like a big baby.

Tyler didn't leave after 5 minutes. He didn't leave after 10, or even twenty and nobody came to get him. His mind was everywhere, overthinking everything and he was getting upset because basketball was supposed to help him just as much as his little space was when it came to stuff like this. Except today it just wasn't.

He couldn't help but groan out loud and throw his basketball against the wall in anger. He sighed, running his fingers through his hair before jogging over to pick up the ball.

He heard some chatter outside, instantly freezing beside the benches. He heard the door creak open and god things could seriously not get any worse.

Mr.Dun's head poked in, yellow hair looking brighter than usual. Tyler hadn't really noticed. His eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the brunette. Tyler felt like he was about to pass out. He definitely couldn't move.

"Tyler?" He asked confused.

"Tyler, what are you doing out of class?" Was the first thing that Mr.Dun asked. He crossed his arms like he was mad and made his way over closer to Tyler. He couldn't help but shrink and feel even slightly vulnerable as Mr.Dun closed in on him.

Tyler really just froze, basketball falling from his hands, fingers no longer grasping it. It falls with a bounce, rolling towards the bleachers as Tyler stares at his teacher. Completely shocked.

"What are you doing out of class? Aren't you supposed to be teaching sir?" Tyler immediately covered his mouth with his hands. Holy shit he just said that. He blurted out an apology just as fast. "Oh god, i'm so sorry. I, i didn't mean that."

Mr.Dun didn't look mad or upset if anything he was amused. Making a joke out of everything. Never taking anything too literally.

He shook his head, tongue between his teeth. Tyler was without fault intimidated. "It's fine. I have a substitute today but clearly you're unaware of that." He raised an eyebrow at his student, unimpressed. Tyler immediately backed off, wanting to curl in on himself.

"Oh." He said quietly, head ducked down looking at his feet.

"Teacher meeting." He shrugged gently with broad shoulders. He was once again in a button up and dress pants and Tyler couldn't stop staring.

"So why aren't you in class?" He asked again. He was more curious this time. Tyler wasn't exactly sure what to say. He couldn't admit to avoiding him. He didn't want to admit to being nervous around him either. He couldn't answer, his mouth opened and closed, no words came out.

Mr.Dun sighed and tried again. "Doesn't seem like you have jurisdiction to be in here." He glanced around the empty gym and then back at Tyler.

Tyler didn't make eye contact as he stuttered out his best response. "I. I-uh don't. I just didn't want to go?"

"Why not?" He asked. "Are you feeling okay? I talked to Ashley, well I think that's her name. She said she'd speak to you. Did she?"

"Y-yeah she did." God he shouldn't be this nervous, he fumbled with his thumbs. He's never been nervous around teachers and Mr.Dun had become a special case, he felt vulnerable. "Thanks for worrying." He said, nearly blushing.

Mr.Dun frowned. He was maybe even slightly offended. Tyler couldn't tell. "Of course, I worry for all my student's well-beings." He settled a hand on Tyler's shoulder for a moment. Tyler's breath hitched and his teacher immediately pulled away. He was only concerned.

"And I um-didn't come to class because I didn't finish the homework." It was a lie but he couldn't figure out anything better.

Mr.Dun frowned. Picking up Tyler's basketball from in front of him. "I didn't give you guys homework on Friday." Tyler went to speak but was cut off.

His teacher looked so damn sincere, he looked so worried and Tyler felt bad. "You don't need to tell me Tyler but you do need to get to class okay?"

He ignored him. "It's just. I've been really stressed lately." Tyler sighed. "I just needed to derail I guess, cope a little bit better. I don't know, it sounds dumb."

His teacher nodded in understanding. "It isn't dumb. That's fine. It makes sense."

"It is kinda dumb though sir. Basketball is such a huge stress yet I use it among other things to cope with the stress it causes."

Mr.Dun looked relieved he was opening up to him and God Tyler had no clue what he was doing. "Tyler. Coping comes in many forms and if this is yours use it. If it helps you, use it. No matter what it is. As long as it isn't dangerous." His tone was so soft Tyler could melt. He couldn't help but feel smaller around his teacher.

He wasn't exactly sure why but even his previous fear of talking to him was melting away as he actually talked to him.

"W-what do you do when you're stressed?" He asked nervously.

"I drum." Mr.Dun smiled. Clearly happy of his hobby. Tyler was instantly amazed and maybe just for a second he let himself slip.

"That's so sweet!" He squeaked excitedly, clasping his hands together in front of himself. He couldn't help but smile for a moment. He instantly went pink, his change of mood very quick.

Mr.Dun smiled too. "Ah, thank you. It's a passion of mine. I've always been fond of music." Tyler grinned harder, unable to shut his mouth.

"Now I think it's time you get back to class huh?"

Tyler nodded. Feeling small. He did his best. "Yes sir."

His english teacher looked happy with his answer. "Good and don't forget to get changed."

"I won't. Promise." Tyler said, still unable to maintain proper eye contact. He was looking anywhere but his eyes.

Mr.Dun smiled, patting his shoulder again. "Perfect. I'll see you tomorrow Tyler."

He started walking away before turning back, pointing a finger at the brunette.

"And no skipping class young man." He warned. He wasn't being stern, far from it but Tyler could only focus on his tone of voice and not the playful gesture that accompanied it. He nearly whined.

He just nodded though to let his teacher know he had heard him. He didn't have the want to talk at the moment.

Mr.Dun left and Tyler felt better somehow. He had been worried for no reason.

He never did ask why Mr.Dun came in the gym. It didn't really matter though.
