5. Nails
Start song: Lowlife by poppy.
Kind of a filler but it's cute so yea.
Ashley's house was significantly smaller than his but he loved it. It was cozy and warm and family like, everything was just slightly squished, family pictures lined the walls and Tyler had always loved it ever since the first time Ashley had invited him over. They had automatically gotten along and she'd painted his nails a pale blue as they laid on her floor and talked.
It was nostalgic today as Ashley drove him and Lynn home with her. Brendon and Dallon had other plans and Tyler didn't want to do nothing at home on a wendsday. Her and Lynn held hands the whole way home and it was endearing from Tyler's view in the back seat.
He always had this want overcome him around the couple because they were perfect, god they were absolutely perfect for each other and Tyler wanted something like that. He was weird though, he knew he was and he blamed his regression for why no one had ever asked him out.
Nostalgia hit again as Lynn painted her nails while Ashley was leaning over to paint her toes. Nail polish was spread out across the floor, every single one of the bottles pulled out because Ashley couldn't choose a colour. She was indecisive, almost as much as Tyler was so she'd insisted on dumping them all on the carpet in her room.
"Do you thinks it's too gay to do my nails rainbow?" Ashley asked. She had all the colours lined up in front of her in a line. Her toes gleaming a gelled dark purple.
"Uh, definitely not. Do it." Lynn encouraged. She started fanning out her nails so they could dry while Tyler toyed with the cap of a red polish.
"Tyler?"
He shook his head. "Can I have rainbow nails too?" He asked with a small smile. He hadn't worn nail polish in a long time and even if he was gonna remove it when he got home he still wanted them painted.
"Mhm, I'll do yours after yeah?" Ashley nodded as she started on her own nails, her tongue poking out in concentration.
"Aw, look at my little jock letting his gay out for once." Lynn smiled fondly.
"My gay is always out." Tyler squinted at Lynn. She only laughed and pecked his cheek while she fanned her pink nails as they dried.
He himself went pink. Affection always made him blushing.
"When I came out all I wanted to do was bring a pride flag to school and wear it as a cape you know?" Ashley said. She was however distracted as she did her nails and now Tyler really wanted his done because they looked good. Last time they'd done this Tyler had tried his own nails and collectively everyone had decided they'd never let it happen again. He agreed especially after spending thirty minutes getting nail polish off his hand.
"Yeah?" Tyler repeated. Ashley grabbed a yellow polish and worked on her second nail as she spoke.
"I wanted to get a flag and make it into a damn dress, paint rainbows on my cheeks, put glitter in my hair. Go all out." Lynn said easily. She poked at her nails and Tyler watched as she hummed contently, he assumed they were finally dry.
"Oh hush, stop trying to one-up me." Ashley whined, she shoved Lynn gently, her girlfriend only pulling in closer to her, leaning her head on her shoulder. Ashley was practically done her nails too and Tyler was excited for his turn.
"No, no Brendon would have us all beat." Ashley started blowing on her nails while Lynn closed off the bottles for her.
"Fuck him." Lynn groaned. "He showed up in high heels and a shirt with the word gay painted in bold."
"Tyler scoot closer." Ashley asked nicely as she did the same until there knees touched. His hands weren't dainty or small, they were calloused and rough from years of playing basketball but Ashley's were a different story. He got in close and Ashley held his right hand as she poked out a red polish from beside her.
"He was wearing makeup, I can confirm I helped him while Dallon laughed his ass off." Tyler said, Ashley already moving on to yellow. The whole school had been in hysterics, not in a bad way but more in a what the fuck is going on way. Brendon had all but embraced the new found attention.
"It was amazing honestly, even though absolutely no one was surprised." Ashley moved onto his other hand, she was quick.
"I feel like there's more to that story?" Lynn said. Tyler's finished hand skimmed over the nail polish before Ashley pulled it in.
"Probabl- Tyler stop touching things. Let them dry."
"Sorry."
"Ty if you come out what would your plan be. Would you be extravagant?" Lynn asked as she got up and stretched her arms over her head.
He gulped. "I don't know. That's way too much effort when i'm just trying to reveal a part of myself that shouldn't matter in the first place. If i'm gay i'm gay right?" He said and it sounded like more of a question but that's what he believed. He wasn't the type to make a big deal out of anything, wether it was coming out or his birthday.
It was all the same, the only that he made a big deal out of was basketball.
"Right." Lynn nodded and that was that. Tyler hadn't come out yet, not that everyone already had their suspicious but he just hadn't found a reason to. It was his own business, he didn't owe it to anybody to come out. It wasn't even a big deal to him anymore, at first he'd wanted to do something big like Brendon but he didn't need that. He just needed inner family and his friends, he needed his friends to know and since they already did Tyler figured he really didn't have anybody else to come out to.
It was all him and if he was going to come out publicly he wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Disney movies were protocol which is how he ended up little at Ashley's house with rainbow nails. She'd tried to age him up since he'd have to go home eventually but she ended up just leaving it be. Lynn already knew. Tyler knew she did, Ashley told her everything so immediately he was comfortable as he giggled and sat on Ashley's bed, her stuffed bunny in his lap.
Big Hero Six was on the screen of her laptop, her and Lynn were cuddling only half watching, while his attention was drawn to the movie, the sounds and his brown eyes were so big and happy. He gleamed and Ashley had skipped over the sad parts because she knew he'd cry.
By the time the movie ended Ashley had texted Tyler's parents to see if it would be okay if he could sleepover. He wasn't ageing up anytime soon and she'd never put him in a position where'd he'd be embarrassed or scared or alone, especially alone in little disc. She didn't want to know what that was like for him.
So Tyler slept over, curled up on her bed with her and Lynn, having school the very next morning. Her bed was big enough for three, Ashley had wrapped herself around Lynn, breath warm on her neck, hand on her waist while Tyler cuddled a stuffed rabbit. Lynn had on hand in his waist, the distance was a bit more compared to her and Ashley but it was still cuddling and it was comforting.
Everything was comforting.
