3. Changes
start song: sweet creature by Harry styles.

Tyler had made no effort to look good for school on Monday, except really most people would agree he still looked good even without his usual extra effort. His hair was quipped prettily, albeit a bit tangled, his skin was still sun-kissed and blemish free and sure he wasn't a style icon but his Adidas sweater swallowed his small frame in the cutest way possible.
He was easily one of the prettiest boys in school, he just hadn't realized it.
yet.
He tapped his fingers along his desk in boredom, his notebooks were stacked neatly in the corner, blue pencil case leaning against them and his textbook was lost in his locker. He'd forgotten it. Of course, he had.
He wasn't exactly the perfect student when it came to bringing his own stuff to class, it wasn't rare that after morning basketball practice he'd sprint to class with just a pencil and nothing more. That happened nearly everyday during his junior year and it seemed as though his senior year wouldn't be all that different.
All of his teachers liked him though so they let him get away with it.
He was always nice to them, trying to get on their good sides but today in Mrs. Ryan's class he just couldn't pay attention or really care for the way she kept glaring at him.
She was writing on the board in neat cursive, chalk dusting the tips of her fingers and Tyler had tunnel vision as he stared ahead. His class was rather quiet, whispered chatter being the only noise along with Mrs.Ryan's obnoxious classical music she always had playing.
That was one thing he could deal without, classical music. Every single day in her class it put him to sleep solely because every song on her educational playlist could easily be considered as a lullaby. It didn't help that it seemed to regress him just a little bit and when he started feeling smaller solely because of the music he'd pull out his own headphones and pick out something a bit less child-like.
Tyler sits in the very back of the class beside a boy he hadn't ever talked to. He's alone, it's his preference really although all his classmates he actually talks to are sat closer to the front. Not in the corner in the back row. He figured he'd concentrate better if he was sat alone. That still wasn't the case.
Mrs.Ryan started talking about the years' syllabus again and Tyler tuned her out, he couldn't bring himself to pay attention. He pressed his chin again the palm of his hand and he watched tiredly. He hated the start of the school year, it takes too long to get into the swing of things. Especially in her class.
A friend of his looks back at him from the front row, a small smile, it's friendly and Tyler had barely caught it but he returned it, a toothy grin and then Mrs.Ryan was clearing her throat in the most annoying way possible and glaring at him.
"Joseph pay attention." She muttered quickly and then she was back to writing on the board. Something about books, Tyler still couldn't bother to pay attention.
He wasn't feeling little though and he was glad, he'd started regressing in her class the most out of all of his teachers since the start of the school year and he wasn't sure exactly why.
Maybe it was the way she addressed him and looked down upon him in a sense like she was scolding a child and when she did that it was easy for him to feel small . It didn't help that her voice was motherly either or that when she was nice she was gentle with her words.
The classes phone rang about half way through class and by then Tyler had finally taken an initiative to write down his notes in a small, neat print.
Mrs.Ryan sighed at the sound, high heels loud as she walked across the room and dusted her fingers off on her black skirt. She left chalk marks, Tyler wasn't surprised.
"Hello, Mrs.Ryan speaking." She said lazily. "Yes, he's here."
Her eyes lock with Tyler for a moment and the brunette gulps, some heads turned to him.
"Oh, really? Well, I didn't know. Yeah, I'll send him down. Thank you, have a good day." She hung up the wall phone and then opened the door to the class talking as she walked back to behind her desk.
"Tyler you are needed in the counselor's office, take your things with you." She said easily and Tyler looked around, classmates just as confused as he was.
He does as he's told, picking up his things slowly and he shuffled out of class happy because he got to be anywhere but there but also confused because why was he being called to the counselor's office.
Was he in trouble? He hoped not, he'd barely done anything. He hadn't done anything.
He quickly pulled his phone out and texted Brendon just because he was nervous. God Brendon could easily calm him down, he relied on him a ridiculous amount. Brendon was his go-to, he was the closest to him out of his three best friends and he was the guy he always texted first.
So he texted him something quick and made his way over to the office.
The counselor's office was right beside the principal's office. he felt a buzz in his pocket as he passed by and he loosened his grip on his school supplies to pull his phone out his pocket.
Brendon 🦁: you'll be fine. I'm sure it's not a huge deal, maybe it's about basketball.
Brendon 🦁 : maybe they're about to give you a scholarship ;)
Tyler just laughed and rolled his eyes, leaning against the wall outside the office. There was no way this was about basketball. He was sure, considering they were only two weeks into the school year.
tyler 🐻: that's definitely not it but wish me luck :/
He shut his phone off, already feeling slightly better as he stuck it into the pocket of his sweatpants once more.
The office was small, three doors for three different counselors. There was a front desk, no one was there. It was really empty but he could see his counselors silhouette from inside his office o the right so Tyler just took small steps in that direction.
He poked his head in through the doorway and knocked on the wall beside him. His counselor looked up from his computer, glasses sliding down his nose.
Tyler liked his counselor, he'd had him ever since Freshman year and he was by far the only adult in the entire school he liked having conversations with. He was middle-aged, not too old, charismatic and caring. He was easy to like, his job position made perfect sense.
"Ah, Tyler come on in," Mr.Roger said in welcome, pointing at the chair across for him. Tyler reluctantly sat down, placing his stuff on his lap. Nervously he brought his thumb to his mouth as he watched the man in front of him work on his computer.
"You're not in trouble if that's what you're thinking." His councilor chuckled, eyes still on his computer and fingers still typing. Tyler sighed in relief, he would've been a dead man. He'd never gotten so much as a late slip, Perfect attendance.
"Then why am I here? Am I failing a class already? I can assure you I'm working hard in each of my classes." He asked, eyebrows furrowed in pure confusion. Mr.Rogers just shook his head in a grin.
"God no, It's not about that. We've just found some complications with your schedule. Specifically your English class."
"What do you mean?" Tyler asked. How could there be complications, they'd stopped switching schedules last week. It had been on the announcements.
"When we divided the English honors classes, we stuck Mrs.Ryan with twenty-six students and Mr.Dun, his class only has twenty."
"Who's Mr.Dun?" He'd never heard of him before. He knew they'd gotten a few new teachers, he was sure he'd already introduced himself to all of them during the first week. Every year he'd introduce himself to anyone that was new to the school, he wasn't shy.
"New teacher, I'm surprised you haven't seen him around the school. He stands out quite a bit." Mr.Roger's replied, spinning around on his chair and aiming his full attention towards Tyler for the first time since he'd entered his office.
He tilts his head as he speaks. "Basically we're just switching a few students over to his class and since his class takes place at the same time as Mrs.Ryan's it's easy to do, we just want more equally divided classes." Tyler nodded, it made sense. Mrs.Ryan could barely handle her class most of the time.
"You're the first one we're moving over, You're much better at adapting to new environments than a lot of your peers so I figured it would be easier on you than some of the other students we had picked out. They'll be another two switched out but we're going slowly, one by one."
He took his time explaining and Tyler nodded along. He really didn't mind changing classes, he liked change, he invited it and plus he wanted to meet this new teacher he hadn't had the pleasure to talk to yet. He understood why he'd be chosen to go first.
"So Mr.Dun is my English teacher now?" He asked for confirmation.
"Yes"
"Now I'll print you out a new schedule with his name and class number on it." Sighed Mr.Roger. He got back onto his computer and Tyler tapped his fingers on the wood of the large desk. His mind wandering as he watched his counselor type his name into the system.
"Will he be okay with me missing class for basketball practice?" He asked quickly because really he'd had a few teachers who had refused to let him leave class during freshman year when coach had called a mid-day practice.
"It's a school activity, he has to let you attend."
A small smile played at his lips and he grabbed a piece of his hair and awkwardly turned it around on his fingers. "So is that all, I'm just changing classes?"
Mr.Rogers nodded in response and quickly whipped his chair around towards the printer to grab Tyler his schedule. It's colored just like his last one. He looked it over before offering it to Tyler.
"Here you go." Tyler carefully grabbed the paper from him and studied it, taking note of the classroom he'd be in before sliding in between the pages of his notebook.
"Alright, thank you Mr.Rogers." Tyler started getting up, pulling his notebooks to his chest.
"Oh and Tyler?" He stopped by the doorway.
"Huh?"
"You can wander the halls for the next." He checked his watch."for the next five minutes, first period will be over by then. But after that you probably don't want to miss any more of his classes, he's already further ahead than Mrs.Ryan is in the curriculum."
"Cool, c'ya soon."
Tyler smiled then waved goodbye.

By lunch time Tyler was feeling great, science class had been a breeze seeing as he was partnered with Dallon. They were working on chemistry and It was the only class he had with him unfortunately.
He genuinely wished he could have every class with him because out of all his friends Dallon didn't let him slack off and seeing as he was smart and aced every class he was a good influence on Tyler. Really Dallon was a good influence on everybody.
His lunch group was a little bit bigger, they occupied twelve seats. Nearly two tables and Tyler loved everybody there. He felt most comfortable around his three best friends but he still felt safe around his other friends. Today they were only about four. Dallon wasn't there today, he had to help a tutor a freshman.
Tyler was already eating with Lynn and Ashley when Brendon came up from behind him and wrapped his arms around his neck in a hug. "How's my favorite boy doing?" He rested his chin on Tyler's shoulder uncomfortably.
"Bren." He whined as he attempted to pull Brendon off of him, hands struggling against Brendon's clasped ones.
Brendon then licked his cheek and bursted into sweet laughter right after, letting Tyler out of his grip and backing away from him.
Tyler squeaked and pulled away, closer to the edge of the bench as he ignored the way Ashley and Lynn had started giggling.
"Oh my god you are gross." He brought a hand up to his cheek and cleaned his friend's saliva off of him as Brendon settled into the seat beside him.
"You love me and you know it."
Brendon replied confidently, no lunch in front of him. Tyler sighed and begun eating his food again when Brendon excitedly shook his shoulder. He put down his food again and turned to him expectantly, just slightly annoyed.
"You never told me why you went to the counselors." Brendon nudged him with his shoulder, crossed his arms and tilted his head.
"Wait you went to the counselors?" Ashley asked, fingers intertwined with Lynn's over the top of the table. They were cute, Tyler admired their relationship in every sense. They'd been dating for two years and the two were so in love Tyler wanted to puke.
"Oh." He wiped at his mouth and put his sandwich down, dramatically tilting his chin up as he spoke: "I Tyler Joseph have officially been moved into Mr.Dun's English class." He announced with enthusiasm.
Lynn gasped. "He's my English teacher! he's really good, very passionate." She noted from beside Ashley, she poked at her spaghetti and sighed dreamily. "And he's really hot, he's got this gorgeous tattoo, bright yellow hair and he's twenty-three."
Ashley pinched her arm softly, Lynn turned to her and held her by her cheeks. "Aw, don't worry, he's not as hot as you though baby." She pecked Ashley's lips delicately and wrapped an arm around her waist. Ashley seemed content with that and she went back to eating.
"Is he easy going?" Brendon asked for Tyler. The brunette playing with Brendon's fingers as he spoke, lacing them with his own and then letting go repetitively. He looked up happily when Lynn starting replying. He let go of Brendon's hand completely, pulling his own fingers closely to his chest.
No one paid much attention to them holding hands anymore or when they gave each other pecks on the cheeks. Tyler knew everyone had been suspicious of him and Brendon dating, or him and Dallon dating or even him and Ashley dating. He'd even been asked if all four of them were dating and that one was new. He'd never thought about that.
Every few days someone would ask him about his dating status with his friends and he'd laugh because that's not the type of relationship he had with any of them although he loved all three profusely.
Lynn sat prettily as she spoke and Tyler's attention was quickly drawn back to her.
"Um, kind of? He's got a lot of rules though, no phones in class is one of them." She answered Brendon's question as she stole a sip from Ashley's coffee.
She turned to Tyler gently. "He'll probably go over them with you but other than that he's pretty chill, really organized."
"He also assigned us our seats." She shrugged and begun eating her food again, scowling at Ashley when she stole a noodle. Tyler couldn't help but notice they were constantly stealing each others food.
"You're not gonna be in my class are you?" Tyler asked hopefully. He couldn't really remember if Lynn took English honors or not. He only saw her at lunch and occasionally when he went over to Ashley's.
"Nope, I'm not in honors. He teaches two English classes, I'm in the other one."
"That sucks, hopefully, I know people in there." Tyler sighed and went back to eating his food when Brendon hit his shoulder with the back of his hand lightly.
"Tyler, you're kidding, right? You know everybody in this school."
"I do not." He protested, glancing at Brendon and turning his body towards him.
"Yes, you so do."
"no."
"Yes."
"Nope."
"Yes, you do."
"nuh-uh," Tyler replied easily and he slapped his hand over his mouth in embarrassment. Brendon giggled and patted his head.
Ashley's eyes widened and no one else seemed to really care about his childish tone as Lynn interrupted the two and Tyler pouted at Brendon.
"Anyways, I'm sure you'll like Mr.Dun, he's the nicest teacher I've ever had."
"Thank you." He said in a small voice and he didn't doubt Lynn for a second. The reassurance made Tyler glad that he was switched out of Mrs.Ryan's class if he was getting a better teacher.
Lunch continued on and Brendon kept him aged up, encouraged him to talk about basketball, and the subject of Mr.Dun ceased but undeniably Tyler was very curious about him.
How could he not be?
