015. Stay with me (Jikook)
A silly argument leads Jungkook to believe Jimin will leave him.
~~~~
It started over something ridiculous, as most of their arguments did.
"Jungkook, how many times have I told you to stop leaving your workout clothes on the floor?" Jimin huffed, crossing his arms as he glared at the crumpled hoodie and shorts discarded in the corner of their shared living room.
Jungkook, who was perched on the couch scrolling through his phone, looked up lazily. “I was going to pick it up later. What’s the big deal?”
Jimin’s eyes narrowed, his frustration mounting. “The big deal is I’ve told you every single day this week, and you still don’t listen. It’s not hard, Jungkook.”
Jungkook sighed, standing up. “Okay, fine. I’ll do it now. Why are you always so dramatic about these little things?”
That was the spark that set the fire ablaze.
“Dramatic? Are you serious?” Jimin snapped, his voice rising. “I’m not being dramatic, Jungkook! I’m just asking for basic consideration. Do you know how exhausting it is to feel like I’m the only one who cares about keeping this place livable?”
Jungkook rubbed the back of his neck, already regretting his words. “Hyung, I didn’t mean it like that. I said I’ll pick it up, okay? Just calm down.”
But telling Jimin to calm down never worked.
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” Jimin retorted, his face red with frustration. “You always do this—act like it’s not a big deal until I have to yell to get my point across. Why can’t you just take responsibility without me having to fight you on it?”
Jungkook’s shoulders slumped as he tried to keep his own emotions in check. He hated arguments. Hated the tension, the raised voices, the way Jimin’s words felt like sharp jabs to his chest.
“I’m sorry, okay?” Jungkook said softly, his voice wavering as he took a tentative step closer. “Hyung, I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad.”
But Jimin wasn’t ready to let it go. “Sorry doesn’t fix the fact that you keep doing the same thing over and over again!”
Jimin’s anger felt like a wave crashing over Jungkook, and the younger’s chest started to tighten. His breathing grew shallow as his mind raced.
“Hyung, please,” Jungkook murmured, his hands trembling slightly as he reached out. “I don’t like it when we fight. Let’s just... let’s not do this, okay? I’ll do better. I promise.”
Jimin sighed. “I need some air,” he muttered, turning toward the door.
That’s when everything spiraled.
In Jungkook’s panic-clogged mind, Jimin walking out of the room felt like something bigger. Something final. His vision blurred as the fear took over.
“Wait!” Jungkook cried, his voice desperate. He stumbled forward, grabbing at Jimin’s wrist. “Don’t leave. Please, don’t leave me!”
Jimin turned around, startled by the sudden shift in Jungkook’s tone. “Jungkook, I’m just going outside for a bit—”
But Jungkook wasn’t listening. His chest was heaving, his breaths coming in short, ragged gasps as tears streamed down his face.
“Don’t go,” Jungkook choked out, clutching his chest. “I can’t—Hyung, please—don’t leave me.”
Jimin’s frustration evaporated in an instant, replaced by concern. “Jungkook? Hey, hey, breathe. It’s okay. I’m not leaving you,” he said quickly, stepping closer.
But Jungkook was too far gone, his body trembling as he sank to the floor, his hands clutching at his knees. “I’m sorry,” he kept mumbling. “I’ll do better. Just don’t leave.”
“Jungkook!” Jimin knelt in front of him, his voice soft but firm. “Look at me. I’m right here, okay? I’m not going anywhere.”
Jungkook’s wide, tear-filled eyes met Jimin’s, and Jimin’s heart broke at the sight. He cupped Jungkook’s face gently, his thumbs brushing away the tears.
“Breathe with me, okay? In,” Jimin instructed, taking a deep breath. “And out.”
Jungkook tried to follow, his breaths shaky but slowing as Jimin guided him.
“That’s it,” Jimin murmured, his forehead resting against Jungkook’s. “I’m here, Kookie. I’m not leaving. I promise.”
Jungkook’s sobs quieted after a few minutes, though his body still trembled. Jimin pulled him into a tight hug, his arms wrapped securely around the younger’s frame.
“I’m sorry,” Jungkook whispered against Jimin’s shoulder, his voice hoarse.
Jimin shook his head, his own tears threatening to spill. “No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gotten so angry. I didn’t mean to make you feel like this.”
They stayed like that for a while, the tension between them dissolving as Jimin rubbed soothing circles on Jungkook’s back.
Eventually, Jimin pulled back just enough to look Jungkook in the eyes. “I love you, you know that, right?”
Jungkook nodded, sniffling. “I love you too, hyung.”
Jimin smiled softly, pressing a kiss to Jungkook’s forehead.
