"Once Zephyr One breaks through the upper atmosphere, we can slingshot the gravitonium at high velocity into the sun, destroying it for good," Rose rubbed her eyes, trying to stay awake during Coulson's explanation of what the team was going to do with the element they had spent the better part of the week trying to get. "As anxious as we are to contain an element that may cause the future destruction of the planet, we have to go Zephyr ready for space travel first."

One of the other agents turned to Piper, "Future destruction?" he asked.

Piper tilted her head, "It's complicated. Just go with it."

Coulson turned to FitzSimmons, "So, how close are we?" he asked.

"On the Zephyr, RCS thrusters are operational," Fitz started.

"On the gravitonium, we're nearly finished extracting residual traces from the machine which seems to have refined the element in some way," Jemma finished.

"It should be enough to power the pseudo-gravity engine. So, in other words, we're close," Deke added, causing Rose's eyes to snap over to him. "I've kind of been consulting, so-" he continued, looking directly at Rose.

The woman scoffed under her breath and tore her eyes away from him. 'Show-off,' Rose thought to herself.

"Meanwhile, Carl Creel still needs medical help," May chimed in. "And I think we should get Robin and Polly somewhere safe, too. After General Talbot-"

"He's not going anywhere," Piper interrupted. Rose raised her eyebrows. While they were trying to obtain the Gravitonium from the Hales, the team back at the Lighthouse had troubles with General Talbot trying to attack the young girl and her caretaker.

"I know, but I've been talking to Tony Caine," May continued.

Mack looked down at May, "What, my Tony?" he asked. "The Candyman?"

May nodded shortly, "He's arranged for Creel's treatment, and he says he could take care of Robin and Polly for now."

"Great. Do it," Coulson said simply. "Maybe Davis can-"

"I'll take him," Daisy said before Coulson could finish his sentence. "It's the least I can do after dragging them out of hiding. Unless there's some objection," she finished, turning to FitzSimmons who were exchanging nervous glances.

Fitz cleared his throat, "No. They'll be safer not here."

"Well make it quick," Coulson said. "General Hale's MIA, and I doubt she took an early retirement," he explained.

Mack furrowed his brows, "Wait, explain to me how she got away. Didn't you have them contained?"

Daisy nodded, "Yeah, we did," she said, looking directly at Elena.

Elena scowled, "That girl was a ticking bomb," she said simply.

Rose sighed, finally deciding to speak, "Yo-Yo's right. Once she was done with us, Hale was gonna leave us for dead. She probably would've had her daughter kill us all if Yo-Yo didn't do us all a favor," she said quickly.

Daisy crossed her arms over her chest, "Yeah, well, that bomb went off when Yo-Yo cut her throat," she stated. "A gravity surge knocked everyone back and disrupted our equipment," she finished, answering Mack's question.

"She slipped away," May said under her breath.

"I was afraid you'd have to quake Ruby and crack the Earth," Elena said, directly addressing Daisy.

"That shouldn't even be an issue, speaking of cutthroat," Daisy mumbled.

Coulson sighed, "All right, let's keep it productive."

"There would already be a crack in the universe if you hadn't," Jemma pointed out.

"Look, I did what I did," Elena said quickly. "I'm not proud, but it was the right choice."

Rose nodded, "Agreed. I honestly would've killed her too!"

"Rosie-" Deke started but Rose shook her head.

"Oh no, don't you start," Rose warned him.

"It was revenge," Daisy insisted. "You let your emotions get the best of you. Ruby should be locked up, and she's not the only one."

"All I did was kill the person called the Destroyer of Worlds," Elena argued.

"That's what Daisy was called," Deke pointed out. "We're lucky you didn't cut her throat."

Rose groaned, "Shut up," she snapped at Deke. "You weren't there, so guess what? You don't get an opinion."

Deke frowned at her, "I don't think that's really fair," he started.

"And I really don't care," Rose replied.

"Stop, you two," Daisy said with a small shake of her head. "The point is, you don't make that decision."

Elena rolled her eyes, "Then who does? You?" she asked sourly. "We all have blood on our hands. Why am I being singled out?"

"That's not what we do here," Mack chimed in. "This is S.H.I.E.L.D. We protect."

"She was a psychopath," Elena retorted. "Ask Fitz."

Jemma nodded, "Yeah, just look at his cracked rib," she said, pointing to her husband. "If you'd have seen what she was like-"

"I didn't get a chance!" Mack said loudly. "I was too busy screaming to be let out of a cell!"

"Fitz shouldn't have even been there," Daisy insisted.

Rose shook her head, "But he and Jemma led us to the gravitonium, so we were lucky they were!" she decided.

Jemma nodded, "We delayed their plan!"

"If we hadn't gone, Ruby would be free," Fitz added.

"But this isn't about the decision, is it?" Elena asked Daisy. "This is about not following your orders."

"It's about both," Daisy stated.

"Well, we didn't pick you!" Elena said sharply. "Coulson made that decision and brought you back when he could have broken that loop right there!"

Coulson sighed, "All right, stop it! Yes, I made that decision, and I'll be making the rest today. It's over. Go do your jobs." Rose pursed her lips, being one of the first people to leave the room. Unfortunately for her, she was met with one of the only people she didn't want to see.

"Rosie! Rosie! What the hell was going on in there?" Deke asked her, rushing to her side. "You're defending an actual murder right now!"

Rose sighed, not bothering to look to her left. "A murder that was necessary for my own survival? Yes, yes I was," she said nonchalantly. "I wonder who that sounds like? Does that ring any bells to you? Because that's the same exact tune you were singing in the Lighthouse!"

Deke's eyes widened, "Okay, there's no way you are pulling that card on me right now!" he insisted. "You've- you've been mad at me ever since I've been shot! And you're just using this as an excuse to keep being mad at me!"

Rose's mouth dropped open, finally looking him in the eyes. "That's not what this is about, at all!" she insisted, a fiery undertone in her voice. "You really don't see how hypocritical you're being right now? Do you? Look, how I see it. Yo-yo killed the girl who almost shot and killed you, and you want to be mad at me for saying that it's a good thing that Ruby Hale's dead?" She huffed, "I can't- I can't talk to you about this. I'm gonna go see if Coulson needs any help with the Gravitonium, or the Zephyr, or whatever the hell we're working on right now. Excuse me," she said, brushing past Deke and walking back where she had left Coulson.

*.·:·. .·:·.*

"What the fuck do you mean there's an alien spaceship over our heads?" Rose asked, rushing into the main control room. May and Coulson were already standing in the middle of it. May sighed, looking up at the blurred security footage in front of her.

"It came out of nowhere," she stated.

Coulson narrowed his eyes, "Any word from the outside?"

May shook her head, "They jammed out communications and exterior cameras. As far as we can tell, both the Lighthouse and River's End have been cut off from the rest of the world."

Rose blinked, swallowing the lump in her throat. "Well, this is where I die," she decided. "It's been a get thirty years but I think the time has come," she mumbled under her breath.

'Greetings, elite citizens of the Lighthouse,' a projection of the man Rose saw when they had first landed in the 2010s appeared on the wall once more. 'Projection Reclamation has been triggered. It appears you're experiencing an apocalypse-level event.'

May groaned, "This guy again?" she asked as the three of them walked closer to the projection.

'Please remain calm,' the projection continued. 'This moment in human history is what this bunker was designed for.'

Coulson nodded, "That is actually kind of reassuring," he said slowly.

'Please go to the main computer terminal and choose from the following options,' the projection said. All three agents turned their heads towards the dusty old computer situated under the staircase. 'If the Lighthouse is experiencing an extreme-weather event, press one. If you're experiencing a nuclear attack, press two.'

Coulson frowned, "Screw it," he said, slamming his finger down on the number '2' option.

'For an alien invasion, press three,' the projection continued. Both Rose and May turned to Coulson, a disappointed look in their eyes. 'You have selected nuclear attack. For your own health, safety, and radiation protection, all outer doors will remain sealed for 15 years.'

May's eyes widened, "Did he just say 15 years?" she asked quickly.

"How was I supposed to know there would be an 'alien invasion' option?" Coulson retorted.

"You always listen to the whole menu!" May declared. "Always!"

Rose sighed, "I swear to god, if I am actually trapped here for 15 years. I'm gonna lose my mind," she decided.

Coulson raised his brow, walking towards the main control deck once more. "Weren't you already trapped on the Lighthouse before?" he asked her.

"This- this is different," Rose insisted. "I don't know how, but it just is!"

Coulson shrugged as he raised the small microphone to his lips. "You may be noticing that the Lighthouse is going into lockdown mode. This is not a drill. The Lighthouse is keeping us safe. All exits, including the hanger have been sealed to protect us from any outside intrusion. Which is good, 'cause there is currently a sizeable alien spaceship overhead." He clicked his tongue, "Oh, and due to a technical malfunction, the Lighthouse thinks we're under nuclear attack, so we may be trapped inside for 15 years- ish. I'm sure there's a way around that. So, in the meantime, there's no reason to panic. The Lighthouse survives the Earth cracking apart, so one flying saucer, probably no big deal."

Rose shook her head, "Techincal error?" she asked Coulson. "Really? I think you meant to say human error for that one."

"What they don't know won't hurt them," Coulson said simply.

'All Lighthouse survival systems are operational,' the projection said quickly. 'Good luck. You're humanity's last hope. Your survival is essential-' The projection fizzled out. Rose looked up, extremely confused. The frown on her face deepened as every screen in the room began to cut out, leaving a small blue static on the screens.

May groaned as the lights over their heads blew out for a few seconds, "Oh, what now?" she asked as all the electronics turned back on. An unknown face appeared on the security footage, Rose had no idea who he was.

"Oh hey," Coulson said sarcastically. "I know this guy."

'Phil Coulson. Humanity's Shield,' the man on the screen stated.

"Yeah, I remember you too," Coulson replied bluntly. "The lighting wasn't great, but the whole vision thing was hard to forget. Did General Hale send you?"

The man on the screen shook his head. 'You will be dealing with me now. I'm here for what was promised. The gravitonium.'

Coulson almost scoffed, "Yeah, that's gonna be a hard pass. Maybe you haven't realized it yet, but this bunker, it's apocalypse-proof. It can withstand a nuclear blast. We have years of food, water, and air."

The agent next to May and Rose looked up, "Is that true?" he asked them.

"Not good food," May responded.

"Yeah, I ate it for almost 30 years. It's kinda shit," Rose added, before turning her attention back to Coulson.

"And pretty soon, the world's gonna realize there's this giant ship in its atmosphere, and I'm thinking in the current political climate, won't be long before you're blown out of the sky." There was a small glitch and the man on the screen faded away. "Too much?" Coulson asked, glancing at the two women.

Rose measured out an inch with her finger, holding it up in the sky. "Maybe a little," she answered.

*.·:·. .·:·.*

"Daisy should be back by now," Coulson expressed as May and Elena walked into the main control room.

"I can't get a line out," Elena responded.

Coulson looked up from the tablet in his hands. "But you should be able to get a signal in, right? What if she never made it out of our airspace at all?"

Rose looked up from the stack of blueprints in her lap. She was trying to figure out if there was any switch or room, that would be able to help them reverse the lockdown that Coulson accidentally put in place. Since she was the one who made them, it would make sense for her to read the blueprints, but this conversation had garnered her attention. "I feel like Daisy would contact you guys if she was in trouble," she pointed out. "No matter how mad she is."

"Daisy's fine," May asserted. "She's gone dark. Daisy's mission wasn't just about Robin, Polly, and Creel. She's following a lead."

Coulson blinked, "A lead on what?" he asked.

"A way to keep you alive," May answered.

Coulson furrowed his brows, "What? I don't want that," he insisted. "My orders are very clear about that."

May took a step towards him. "If there's a chance we can save you, don't you think I'd take it?" she asked.

"Right now, we all need saving from our new overlords out there," Coulson said quickly. "And our most powerful team member's gone!"

Elena shook her head, "No, no, no, no, no. I killed Ruby for nothing," she muttered, causing Rose's eyesight to snap towards the Inhuman. "It didn't matter. It's all happening right now. Everything she told me."

"'She' who?" May asked instantly.

Elena looked around the room quickly. "This right here. This is how we lose. I could've warned myself about a lot of things. Ruby, Hale, these aliens. But instead, she told me- Instead she told me: 'Coulson is dying, and we need to let him'." She looked over at Coulson. "I'm sorry sir. I hated keeping this. I owe you so much. You're my family."

May pursed her lips, "No, you're wrong," she said loudly, causing some of the papers to fall out of Rose's lap and onto the floor. "Robin said Coulson puts the pieces back together. And you're saying that we should've just left him to freeze to death in the middle of nowhere?"

"I have to listen, May," Elena said quickly. "She was me. She's lived through this- through this loop who knows how many times."

"Exactly, you don't know," May continued. "We haven't lost yet, and as far as we know, they can't get in here. And you better believe we're gonna do everything possible to keep him alive."

"They can go wherever they want," Coulson repeated. The three women looked at him curiously.

Rose straightened up in her seat a little, "And what the hell does that mean?" she asked. "That this lockdown isn't doing shit for us right now?"

Coulson gave her a look that told Rose everything she needed to know. "Oh fuck," she cursed.

*.·:·. .·:·.*

"Sensors, the cameras, everything's glitchy," Coulson noted, looking at the broken security cameras.

"You getting the same thing I am?" Mack asked as he rushed into the control room.

May glanced up from the control panel, "Energy fluctuations all over the Lighthouse? Yeah," she nodded.

"Yeah, which could mean they're already inside," Coulson pointed out.

"Searching every room until they find us," Rose continued. "As if that isn't extremely terrifying."

There was a crash behind the four of them and Rose whipped around just in time to see Deke crash through an air vent. "They're already inside!" he said in a panicked voice.

Mack frowned, "We don't even know who 'they' are," he stated.

Deke shook his head, "I do. I'm surprised you haven't figured it out yet," he added, looking over at Rose. "Not that you aren't smart," he added carefully. "I wasn't saying that Rosie, so don't say that I was because I wasn't."

Rose crossed her arms over her chest, "One, I haven't seen them. And two, just, tell us who the aliens are. Please," she said in a rushed tone as FitzSimmons appeared on the video screen behind them.

Deke took a deep breath in, "The Remorath are marauders. They're intergalactic scavengers with no planet of their own, so they just take from others and- and wherever they go, darkness follows."

"Darkness?" Coulson asked. "That's a little vague."

"Well, it's not the concept of darkness, it's literal darkness," Deke explained. "It follows them, because they're magic, and they can see in the dark, and we can't. So it makes them kill us better with their claws."

A few of them looked over at Rose for clarification. She sighed. "There's a better way to explain it than he did, but yes they have claws, and they have the ability to turn off the lights so you can't see them coming. Which would explain the random energy surges everyone sees throughout Lighthouse," she chimed in.

"Well, people in the future survive," Mack said quickly. "There must be a way to stop them."

"No, we didn't stop them," Deke replied. "We just gave them whatever they wanted, and then- said thank you and cleaned up the bodies after they left," he finished quietly.

Coulson stayed silent for a few seconds before he spoke, "All right, this is no longer a siege, this is an evacuation. Fitz, Simmons, see if you can find a way to override the whole nuclear-contamination protocol. Rose, keep searching those blueprints and let FitzSimmons know if you find anything. We need to get the Zephyr airborne and out of here, preferably with the gravitonium and our people on board." He turned to Elena. "How are your arms feeling?" he asked.

"Fitz recalibrated them, so I'm like new," Elena answered.

Coulson nodded, "Good, because we also need to get Talbot out of lockup, and we have no idea what kind of influence he's under." As Rose began to look through the blueprints once more.

"Well, if he makes a move- I'll make a faster one," Elena asserted.

"Great, thank you," Coulson said quickly.

Rose narrowed her eyes, looking at the paper in front of her. "Hang on, hang on, hang on," she said quickly. "It looks like there's an analog override on floor 17, whatever that means," she finished, looking up at Coulson.

'It's the system I checked after the beacon explodes- so I can rig up a bypass,' Fitz said quickly.

"If we can get the hanger doors open and Deke and I can get the engines going- we're in business," Mack added.

'I'll ready the gravitonium for travel,' Jemma said over the video call. 'We've got Piper and Davis here to help, and Fitz can take Agent Wahl for backup.'

Deke shook his head vigorously. "No Simmons. You- you are the backup. You guys made a pledge to not leave each other's side- so I feel like-"

Fitz cut Deke off, 'Well, we don't really have much of a choice.'

"You can get Daisy to give you backup. She's strong, and she's protective," Deke started but FitzSimmons had already walked away from the computer screen.

"She's not here," Coulson said quickly. "You can ask May about that one."

Rose sighed, pressing her teeth up against the edge of her lips. "Fine, if it's gonna be that big of a deal. I'll go give Fitz back up," she decided, getting up from her chair.

"No, no, no you won't," Deke said quickly.

"No, actually, that's a good idea," Coulson said with a small nod. "Rose, go find Fitz and Agent Wahl," he told her.

"No, Coulson, no that's a bad idea," Deke continued. "She's- she's gonna get hurt."

Rose scoffed, "Like you would care," she responded sourly, before pushing past him and walking out into the hallway, heading towards the 17th floor of the Lighthouse.

*.·:·. .·:·.*

Rose made her way through the deserted hallways. She wasn't entirely sure what route Fitz and Wahl had taken, so she just chose the most logical way and hoped for the best. It didn't really help that with every step she took the lights behind her would flicker. Rose gripped the side of her gun as she rounded the corner, being plunged into complete darkness. "Shit, shit, shit, shit," she whispered to herself. "Why did I agree to do this?"

She walked further down the hallway and heard a horrifying crunching noise at the end of the hallway. There was enough light to see what had happened, one of the Remorath had taken their claws and run them through the middle of Agent Wahl's chest. Rose instantly ran in the opposite direction, almost crashing into Fitz.

"Agent Wahl, he just- he just-" Rose started, trying to catch her breath.

"Got stabbed?" Fitz finished for her. "Yeah, I saw. Let's go unless you want to be the next agent that ends up dead."

Rose nodded as they ran toward the light at the end of the hallway. But the Remorath was gaining on them, Rose could practically feel its breath on the back of her neck. "Get back!" a voice said, pushing Fitz and Rose behind him.

She looked up as Deke pulled out a fire hydrant and began to spray the alien. The two didn't have time to ask any questions they just continued down the hallway until they reached the override spot. "Shh! Shh! Shh!" Deke said to the two of them.

"What the hell?" Rose hissed. "Did you think I couldn't handle this by myself?" she asked, resisting the urge to hit him on the shoulder.

"I wanted to come with you!" Deke said quickly. "If you hadn't noticed if Fitz dies, I die."

Rose huffed, shaking her head in a disapproving manner. "Oh my god, if you don't trust me, you should just say that!" she snapped.

"Rosie, of course, I trust you," Deke said quickly.

Rose rolled her eyes, "Deke, please save that attitude for someone who cares," she said under her breath. "I don't need your protection anymore. In fact, I've never needed it. Okay? I could've handled this!"

Deke raised his brow, "Oh really?" he asked. "Then why was I the person who was out there saving your ass!"

Rose furrowed her brow, "Oh shut up. I can take care of myself! My ass is fine!"

Fitz turned around to look at them, "Hey guys," he said quickly, dragging their attention away from their fight.

Rose's eyes widened as she looked at the machine Fitz was pointing at. The override, or at least that's what Rose assumed it was, was completely destroyed. The wires ripped from the frame that they were in.

Deke sighed, "Don't tell me that's the override. How the hell did he find that thing? The Lighthouse is enormous."

Fitz shook his head, "Doesn't matter," he said. "This was our only way out."

Deke ended up getting the elevator fixed so the group of three was able to move between the levels of the Lighthouse freely. Deke seemed a little more freaked out than Rose was at the moment, or maybe Rose was just better at hiding it.

"I can't be stuck in here again. I can't be stuck in here again," Deke rambled. "I- There's so much I haven't seen. So much I haven't said. I haven't seen the ocean. I haven't seen the Great Wall. I haven't seen Orlando."

Fitz looked over at his grandson. "What happened to your multiverse?" he asked. "Though you were everywhere all at once?"

"Shut up!" Deke snapped.

"You- you shut up, Deke," Rose responded. "I don't want the last thing I hear before I die to be your voice!"

Deke frowned, "Well I don't want the last thing I hear to be your voice!" he repeated sourly. "How do you feel about that?"

"Great! Great!" She responded in an annoyed voice. "Thanks for asking," she said as the door to the elevator opened.

"Thought you might need an escort," Mack said, passing a small handgun to Deke.

Deke shrugged, "I think we can handle ourselves," he said as the three of them stepped out of the elevator to meet Mack. Rose shivered as the lights above their heads began to flicker. She looked at the hallway ahead for them to see one of the Remorath standing, staring at them with a menacing look in its eyes.

Mack wasted no time in bringing his gun up to eye level and shooting at the alien. The bullet went straight through his chest, leaving a small black residue in the air. The relief that Rose felt didn't last long, as three more Remorath came out of the darkness, charging at the four of them. "Go!" Fitz said quickly, tapping Deke on the shoulder. "Go! Go! Go!" he repeated.

Rose ran down the hallway as Mack continued to shoot at the aliens. Once Mack had gotten enough space between them and the creatures, he stopped shooting and kept running back to the control room where they met with Coulson and May. They began to lock all of the doors, taking every precaution to prevent the Remorath from entering their space.

Fitz created a bunch of small bombs to place around the edge of the control room. Mack had given Coulson his shotgun axe while Rose began to load her own gun with something that she knew would go through the alien's skin.

Rose heard a loud pounding on the door in front of them and she instantly held her gun out in front of her. She felt her hands shake a little, but she tried to ignore it. "Okay people, this is it," Coulson said quickly. "Here we go," he finished over the continuous noise of banging on the door. He looked over at May who was to his right. "If you need a gun, you'll take one, right?"

May nodded, but Coulson still pulled a gun out of his back pocket, "Here, take this one," he said as the door to the right of them began to shake rapidly. The overhead lights shut off, leaving the light source the small cans of fire Fitz set up throughout the room.

"They're everywhere, just like I said!" Deke exclaimed as the noise began to move throughout the room, switching from door to door.

"Just hold steady!" Coulson instructed.

Suddenly the noise on the outside of the door stopped, and Rose began to hear a small slithering noise on the ceiling of the room. She followed the noise with her eyes, taking a few deep breaths in before it happened.

A group of the Remorath broke through the upper entrance to the control room, jumping down to attack the agents. Rose's finger flew to the trigger and she began to shoot at the aliens. She wasn't sure if she was hitting any of them. The room was filled with bullets and the noise of the Remorath's shrieks. "We're running out of ammo!" May shouted as the team began to be back into a corner, all of the agents coming back to back in the middle of the room.

"I'm out!" May exclaimed.

"Me too!" Mack responded as Rose backed into Deke.

This didn't stop the Remorath from continuing to attack the agents. May grabbed a baton from the table and shrugged. "Bullets didn't do much to these guys anyway," she responded before lunging forward.

Rose help up her gun again and tried to shoot at the creatures, but like kept coming. Coulson fell to the ground after one hit, but no one had the time to help him off the ground, they just had to keep fighting or else the Remorath would win, and no one wanted that.

But everyone's attention seemed to be turned away from the aliens and towards the main entrance. Glenn Talbot was standing in the middle of the doorway. Talbot closed his fist and the room around them began to shake. He then looked at the Remorath, tilting his head. The aliens began to lift themselves into the air, their bones cracking under pressure. Rose had only seen something like this once before, at the military base with Ruby.

Rose's eyes widened as the aliens were crushed under their own weight. She knew exactly what had happened to Talbot. He stepped inside the machine, he had the gravitonium inside of him. She turned away as the Remorath practically turned to dust. She took a deep breath and turned back to the front as Talbot made his way over to Coulson. "I told you I was gonna fix this," he said to Coulson, before using his newfound powers to accelerate the small platform with him and Coulson up into the air.

They couldn't do anything to stop Talbot from taking Coulson, all they could do is watch in horror as the two were lifted up into the sky.

'Citizens of the Lighthouse, I bring you excellent news. The outer atmosphere shows no signs of contamination. Congratulations. You have survived the nuclear apocalypse. The planet is safe again.'

loving you's the anecdote,
