and if you're ever tried of being known for who you know, you know you'll always know me
[rise and shine: season 5, episode 15]

Rose felt absolutely useless sitting around the lighthouse (as she usually does). Daisy had her powers back, Deke was now essential to the team because he was Fitzsimmons grandchild, Mack was working on getting Yo-Yo her arms back (not actual flesh and bone, which would be impossible, except the team had managed to capture materials from LMD's to recreate her old body parts, and Coulson, while he was been taken in by General Hale in exchange from withdrawing her forces that surrounded the Lighthouse. So essentially Rose was nothing, she was dead weight in a team of skilled agents.
In the lighthouse in 2091, Rose had her place. She knew where she belonged. In the records room or with Deke. But here, she didn't know who she was anymore. It's not like she could do anything about it. The only people who knew her sat inside the same S.H.I.E.L.D. base as her.
"You okay?" Daisy asked as she took a seat next to the girl.
Rose shrugged putting down the blueprint she was looking at, "Fine, just a little pissed off," she said honestly.
"Why is that?"
"I don't particularly like being locked in a closet," Rose said, looking over at Daisy.
Daisy nodded, "That's perfectly reasonable," she answered. "I also don't like my skin getting drilled into and an inhibitor forcibly removed from my brain."
Rose bit her lip, "Right, that sounds like hell, I'm sorry," she apologized quickly. "Shouldn't have complained. I have a habit of doing that-" she said her voice trailing off. "I should honestly stop but I just keep talking. Um, how are you feeling after everything??" she finished awkwardly, mentally kicking herself for acting so selfish earlier.
"I'm doing alright given the circumstances," Daisy responded. "Just trying to figure out what the hell is up with Coulson."
"Right, he went with, what's her name? General Hale?" Rose questioned, tilting her head.
"Yeah, and I don't know why he would agree to it," Daisy admitted. "Seems like the top of the pyramid of bad ideas."
Rose thought to herself. She honestly didn't think she knew Coulson well enough to make a judgment on why he would do something. But, from what she observed, he seemed like someone would who does anything for his team. Hell, he dragged Daisy back to their own timeline when he knew the risks. When he knew that she could potentially destroy the world. Even when Daisy asked him not to. Yet, he did.
"Well, I mean, if it would protect you guys, it makes a lot of sense," Rose started. "Look, I don't know how things work here at S.H.I.E.L.D. but back at the Lighthouse, it was everyone for themselves. If it wasn't for Deke, I probably would've lost myself."
"You mean, he would've lost himself," Daisy corrected. Rose looked at her with a raised brow. "What? He said it, not me," she said, putting her hands up in defense.
Rose laughed off her comment but kept talking. "Here, it seems like you're all a family. A real family. I would kill to have that feeling back. Even if it was just for a few seconds. So whatever he's done, it probably wasn't for himself. It was for you guys," she said slowly.
Daisy peered at her curiously, "You're smart," she commented.
Rose shook her head, "Hardly," she said quickly. "Just observant I guess."
Daisy got up from her seat, holding her hand up for Rose to take it. "What are you doing?" Rose asked quickly.
"Come on," Daisy said, gesturing her hand towards the girl once more. "I'm gonna teach you how we deal with all of this pent-up energy?"
"What do you mean by pent-up energy?" Rose questioned.
"Will you just take my hand and trust me?" Daisy asked her hurriedly.
Rose nodded, grabbing onto Daisy's hand. Allowing Daisy to pull her out of her seat. "Yeah, sure. Show me how to get rid of this negative energy."
"You mean, pent-up?" Daisy said, laughing slightly.
"Right, pent-up," Rose said with a small nod. "Lead the way."
Rose honestly have known where Daisy had taken her as she claimed to know the Lighthouse inside out, but she wasn't sure what room the two had landed in. "What is this place?" she questioned, gazing around at the low-lit ceilings and the padded flooring.
"Training center, I suspect," Daisy said. "It must have been under Kasius's control when you were at the Lighthouse. You know, for the use of the Inhumans. But now it's under our control. So I guess it was under our control until, you know-"
"You supposedly destroyed the world?" Rose asked, taking a guess at the answer. "Should've put that a little softer but you know what I mean."
"Yes, yeah, I know what you mean," Dasiy said quickly.
"So, why are we in this training facility?" Rose asked again. "I mean, it's nice scenery, but I'm very confused."
Daisy gave her a smile, "Here," she said, tossing Rose a pair of thick black gloves. "Take these." Rose caught them with ease.
She peered down at the gloves in her hand. "And, why do I need these?" she questioned, biting her lip quickly.
"We're gonna box, obviously," Daisy said quickly, wrapping her own boxing gloves around her wrists.
"What?" Rose sounded a noise of pure confusion.
"Okay, I know you guys have boxing in the future," Daisy expressed, pulling her brown hair into a low ponytail.
"Yeah, we do. But I've never boxed anyone," Rose said, completely flabbergasted. "I mean look at me? I don't have the physique of a boxer. I'm like- weak. Like weak, weak. I can't box for shit. Nope, nope, nope," Rose rambled dropping the gloves on the floor. "I haven't even punched anyone, before, ever."
Daisy scoffed, "Okay, that's how I know you're lying," she said, picking the gloves back up off of the floor and handing them to Rose again. "I saw you with that pipe and I know for a fact that you were strong enough to stab your own anomaly from the fear dimension. So, you gonna get out all that pent-up energy and box me, got it?"
Rose felt very imitated by the woman as her boxing gloves got pushed closer to her chest. "Yeah, yeah. I got it," she stammered. She pulled on the large gloves one by one, her hands fairly very comfortable with the unwieldy shields covering them. Rose took a deep breath in, regretting her decision to leave her hair down. "Am I just supposed to punch you?" she asked, hesitating slightly.
"Oh, you can try," Daisy said holding her hands up. "But usually no one can get a punch past me."
Rose shook her head, "And you expect me to beat you?" she asked quickly.
"Beat me, no," Daisy said almost instantly. "Put up one hell of a fight, yes."
Rose stuck her hands up in front of her body. "I think you're putting too much trust in me," she admitted, not sure if she should throw the first punch or not.
"I think I'm putting just the right amount of trust in you," Daisy said slowly before throwing a punch in Rose's direction.
Rose ducked quickly, feeling Daisy's fist miss her forehead by mere inches. "See you're learning already," Daisy said as Rose straightened herself back up. "Now, just, try and throw a punch at me."
Rose exhaled quickly, "I don't know if I can do that," she said slowly. "Look, I've known you for like a month, probably less. I can't punch people I practically just met. I could punch Deke, sure. But I don't think I could punch you."
"Then just pretend I'm Deke," Daisy said as if it was the most obvious answer in the world.
Rose tilted her head, wincing slightly. "That's not a good idea," she said slowly.
"Just- punch me then, it's not that hard," Daisy expressed.
Rose shook her gloves slightly and tried to throw a punch at Daisy's shoulder, which she blocked with ease. "Try it again with a little more unpredictability," Daisy instructed as Rose took a deep breath in. "Kind of like this," Daisy said before sinking a punch in Rose's side.
Rose stumbled backward, clutching the spot where she was struck. "Aw, ow," she sounded. "You have a strong punch, a very strong one." Rose took a second to regain her strength.
"So will you, now try again," Daisy instructed as Rose got back into an upright position.
Rose curled her fists into small balls and she tried to throw two more punches at the woman, none of which landed. It just left Rose dazed and a little sweaty.
"Come on, Valia, you can do it," Daisy encouraged her.
"Valia?" Rose questioned.
"May used to call me Johnson when she was training me, just thought it would help, I guess?" Daisy added slowly.
Rose took a deep breath and wound her fist back and struck Dasiy directly in the face. Daisy's hand instantly flew to her face. "Ow, I guess the Valia thing worked," she reasoned wiping the bit of blood from under her nose. "You got a mean right hook."
"I am so sorry," Rose expressed quickly, rushing over to Daisy. "I didn't mean to punch you in the face. Or punch you at all."
"Don't apologize," Daisy said instantly shaking her head. "That was good! Do you feel any better?"
Rose took a deep breath in, "A little. Does this always work?"
"Punching things to get your anger out?" Daisy asked, her nose finally clear of the blood. It's not exactly healthy, but yeah. It works."
"I have a feeling that no one does things the healthy way around here," Rose pointed out.
Daisy shrugged, "It's not really S.H.I.E.L.D's style," she admitted.
"I don't know if I can get used to S.H.I.E.L.D'S style," Rose stated blankly. "You're all so badass, and you all feel like you have a purpose. Just like a well-oiled machine. And here, I just feel like a rock floating in space. Unable to control my environment. Just floating in an empty vacuum. I don't really know how to fix it, or how to get rid of the feeling, but it's just constantly there now."
"Maybe S.H.I.E.L.D. could help you with that?" Daisy offered.
Rose pursed her lips, "How?" she asked simply.
"Well, Agent Valia. I am your unofficial official S.O," Daisy said with a smile. "Congratulations."
"So, an S.O. is like what, exactly?" Rose asked raising her brow.
"It's like a trainer in S.H.I.E.L.D's fancy lingo," Daisy explained.
Rose nodded slowly, wiping a cool towel against her forehead. "Okay, so if you're my S.O. does that make me a S.H.I.E.L.D. trainee?"
Daisy shrugged, "In my eyes you already were, and since I'm the acting head of S.H.I.E.L.D. I get to decide who's in."
"You mean me?" Rose questioned. "A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent?
"Yes," she said simply. "Look. This team gave me a place to call home for the first time in my life. "Maybe it can do the same for you."

A few hours later, Rose found herself sitting in the main belly of the ship with Daisy and May, who were both trying to figure out General Hale's connection to the U.S. military and why she would take Coulson.
"Daisy? Daisy?" May said to the younger woman who had her eyes closed. "Did you hear me?"
"Yeah, I heard you," Daisy answered slowly, opening her eyes to stare at the ceiling. "I'm just thinking it through. Strucker's escape, Anton, Creel."
"And her connection to General Fischer," May finished for her.
Daisy looked forward at image of the man that May just pulled up. "Hale is Hydra," she stated bluntly. "Hale Hydra."
"What exactly is H.Y.D.R.A?" Rose asked as May and Daisy turned to face her. "Everyone keeps throwing around that word, but I don't exactly know what it means."
"You know who the Nazis are?" May asked her quickly.
Rose nodded vigorously, "Everyone knows who the Nazis are."
"Well Nazis, H.Y.D.R.A, same organization," Daisy said simply.
Rose clicked her tongue, "Good to know," she said quietly. "That is very good to know."
Daisy got up from her seat, "Seriously?!" she complained to no one in particular. "How are we still fighting Nazis today?"
"More importantly, why does she need Coulson?" May wondered.
"Maybe, he pissed off more than one branch of this Nazi organization?" Rose suggested. "They could possibly want revenge?"
May nodded, "If you chop one head off, two grow back in its place," she stated.
"Okay," Daisy said, taking a deep breath in. "I don't even know where to start. Yeah, obviously, we have to get ahead of her, but we have no leads because everyone in Hydra's locked up. But we can't question them without false documents which I can't get without more resources. So there's no-"
"Hey!" May said loudly, interrupting Daisy's rambling. "Coulson chose you for a reason. Take a breath. This is just another fight."
"No, it's not," Daisy said immediately. "I can't quake this way."
May placed her hands on Daisy's shoulders. "Remember combat training. Take what you have, use it to your advantage."
"We have nothing," Daisy said in frustration.
May looked up, "We have a supervillain," she said before strolling off into the hallway.
Rose looked over at Daisy, "She's gonna go talk to Fitz, isn't she?"
"Yeah, and it's a bad idea," she said simply. "You can't trust him."
Rose scrunched up her face in confusion, "I thought you said you guys were like a family?"
"Were," Daisy stated. "Everyone else maybe, but not Fitz. Not after what he did."

Grace talks ig: Rose 'I can't punch you, I barely know you' Valia absolutely slayed this chapter. She and Daisy's friendship is my fav to write in this book. (Well behind Rose and Deke but there's is definitely more than just a friendship). And Rose is now officially a S.H.I.E.L.D. trainee and I honestly wasn't planning on doing that at all when I sat down to write this chapter. Like, I had a whole different vision for it (it was gonna be very sad) but I was like screw that, let me make Rose happy for once and have her bond with the team. So that's how the Daisy S.O. thing was born and i fucking love it!!! Anyways, sorry that this chapter is so short, there wasn't actually a lot of content I could go off of in the actual episode bc most of it was Hale's background story. So I just kinda did my own thing up until the very end, and I hope you all liked that bc I love little one-off chapters like this hehheh :) Okay, enough of me talking and I'll see you all in the next chap, BYEEE <33
