⚡️NINETEEN.

━━━hope's hopeless!

BIRDIE POTTER WOULD consider herself relatively smart, she wasn't super smart when it came to studies, or anything in general but she got by, though it didn't take smartness to notice something about her dear friend Hope, in fact all it took was her observance skills — Birdie had always been observant as a kid, well, at least to the things she considered interesting, so when she started noticing that every month her friend disappears for around two days, and comes back looking sick, she wasn't going to let it go that easily...or at all.

So, along with her plan for the big proposal to Fred, she started paying attention to the most minor details — like Hope having dark circles under her eyes, her not eating anything, her complaining about a headache, and her basically living off of candies for energy.

Then, Birdie noticed one more thing — one thing that made it abundantly clear what was happening. Whenever Hope Lupin would disappear — there always seemed to be a full moon around. Everytime.

Birdie knew she couldn't just go ahead and ask her something along the lines of, 'Hey I think you're a werewolf, care to confirm or deny?' but she also knew that she couldn't let her friend go through it alone if she was. She knew how tough things were at home for Hope, she didn't want something that happens to her without her will to add up to all the stress, at least not as much as it does right now.

Now, if Birdie wanted to confirm her suspicions, she could do either one of two things — option number one, she could follow Hope at the day of the full moon and find out where she goes, or option number two, she could ask Hope's bestfriend who's also really easy to crack. Between you and her, she was much less scared of option number two because it couldn't really (maybe) kill her in the process.

Birdie leaned on the wall and waited for Donna to get out of the dungeons, her common room was right down the Hallway to the Hufflepuff common room, as weird as it sounds, Hufflepuff and Slytherins actually make the bestest of friends, both of them are hardworking and ambitious, so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary to see a Hufflepuff waiting outside the Slytherin common room.

However...

Seeing Birdie Potter waiting outside was.

Everyone knew how much Capella and Birdie didn't get along, both of them would avoid even looking at each other at any cost, unlike their brothers who seemed to have a weird obsession with each other.

"Ah, would you look at that" Birdie heard the malicious voice of none other than Capella speak from behind her, Birdie rolled her eyes, not paying attention to the blonde, "Little Ms Potter is hanging out with the bad kids" she spoke in a mocking child voice.

"Move along, Malfoy" Birdie said rolling her eyes, "I don't have time for you or your unnecessary need to create drama"

"That's rich, coming from you" Capella raised her eyebrows, "I could go on and on about how many times you couldn't handle all the attention being on someone other than yourself"

"Oh my Helga! Are you ever going to let it go?" exclaimed Birdie, "Ok, Capella, I'm sorry I fainted on your birthday from the lack of sleep and meals, I promise not to do it again! Happy?!"

"When you will apol— wait what?" Capella furrowed her eyebrows, "Did you just— just apologize to me?"

"Yes, now leave me alone" said Birdie exasperatedly, "I'm not saying it again just to feed your ego"

"Hey, you don't get to tell Capella what to do—" one of Capella's minions said, Birdie couldn't really be bothered to learn their names, they were like the side characters of the side character to her for some reason.

"That's enough, Dalia" Capella raised her hand, silencing Dalia, "We need to get going now"

Birdie watched the blonde walk away with her friends before Donna asked, "What was that? Capella Malfoy walking away without attempting to hex you? Is the world coming to an end?"

"Might be" Birdie joked, "but just in case it isn't, I need to ask you something very important"

"Ok?" Donna said unsurely.

"This needs to happen somewhere private" Birdie said looking around as she saw a bunch of students walking with each other, "Come with me to the library"

"Uh—" Donna could barely get a word out before she was getting dragged by her hand to the Hogwarts library, Birdie picked the most farthest corner she could find — the one with the dumb history books no one wanted to read and put the muffiliato charm around, "Birdie is everything ok?"

"No, no everything's fine" Birdie said reassuringly, "Hey, by the way, it's nice to see you again, I feel like I haven't seen you in forever"

"Oh, yeah, I've just been busy studying and I've been eating in my dorm room so..." Donna shrugged.

"Yeah, if this were a book it'd be like I hadn't seen you around for around ten chapters" Birdie said jokingly, she turned around to give a look.

"Yeah, sorry about that" Donna chuckled, "What did you want to talk about then?"

"Oh, you might want to take a seat for this one" Birdie said pulling up a chair for herself and motioning for Donna to do the same.

Donna pulled up a chair with a confused look on her face, "Look is this about the time Hope and I wrecked your dorm—"

"What? No" Birdie said with her brows furrowed, "Wait, it was you guys wrecked my dorm room?"

"No..." Donna said with an awkward chuckle, "Wh-why would we do that?" she scratched the back of her neck while saying that.

"Look, the thing I wanted to say is" Birdie paused for a dramatic effect, "I know Hope's a werewolf"

Donna let out a gasp as her eyes widened comically, another gasp was heard making both of the brunettes turn around rapidly, both of them watched as Lorelei dropped the bag of chips from her hands and stared at them through a gap in the shelf where books were supposed to be.

Oh, shit...

BIRDIE DIDN'T KNOW how to digest what Donna had told her, Hope Lupin had a lifelong trauma that no one could help her with, Birdie was disgusted when she heard the story but the strongest emotion she felt was anger, she was angry that someone had done that to just a two year old, she was angry that someone did that just because her parents were werewolves and she was angry that that person was no one other than Fenrir Greyback, the person who'd turned both of Hope's parents into werewolves.

Lorelei was in just as much of a shock as Birdie, she seemed to be hiding it better than Birdie though, she wasn't constantly running into things and she didn't have an expression of pure sadness on her face.

Birdie had always been good at hiding her emotions, it's what she grew up doing a lot, most of the times when her parents would be concerned about Harry, and she had a problem herself she would just keep pushing it down because she didn't want to burden them with her problems when they already had the weight of the world on their shoulders, but for some reason she just couldn't do it right now.

"Hey, Robin" Fred beamed at her, Birdie looked up with an absent minded look on her face.

"Hi, Fred" Birdie breathed out, the redhead frowned at her.

"You ok?" he questioned with his brows furrowed, "Is there something wrong? Anything I can do to he-"

"She's fine, Fred" Lorelei said guiding Birdie to her side, and facing the concerned Weasley herself, "She's just feeling a little under the weather"

"Oh, ok..." Fred said, not fully convinced.

Birdie passed him a smile and then got pushed away from there by Lorelei, "What is up with you? Don't act so obvious, Birdie, we don't want Hope to think that whatever we're about to do is out of pity"

"What are we about to do?" Birdie questioned.

...

"You two are not doing that!" Hope exclaimed as she paced through the Room Of Requirement with an enraged look on her face, Birdie and Lorelei gave each other a look — they'd never ever seen Hope so angry in their lives, "I get that you guys don't want me to feel lonely every full moon, but if something happens in the process, how the hell am I supposed to go on knowing full well I could've stopped you from doing that?!"

"Well, you see, the thing is..." Birdie dragged.

"...we weren't asking for your permission to do so" Lorelei said with a shrug.

"Yeah, our reasons behind doing this are completely selfish" Birdie assured her.

"Totally" Lorelei added.

"I mean, could you imagine everytime we haven't done our homework, we can just eat it..." said Birdie turning the corners of her mouth upwards.

"Yeah, and then we can really say an animal ate our homework" Lorelei finished for her.

"Do you guys have any idea what you're getting into?" Hope questioned, her voice sounding frustrated, "Your parents may have been able to do that—"

"Please" Lorelei huffed, "From what I've heard they didn't do it themselves, aunt Si had to write them the whole process down"

"Well, guess what, Lore" Hope said, "Aunt Si isn't here, and even if she was — she wouldn't help you because of how careless, dangerous, stupid and reckless this is"

"Careless, dangerous, stupid and reckless" Birdie repeated, "Boy, does that remind you of someone, someone who used to be all that...in their teenage years, perhaps?"

"Someone careless enough to maybe go through the restricted part of the Hogwarts library, perhaps?" Lorelei pulled out a book labelled 'Transform to an animagus!', Hope's eyes widened.

"Dangerous enough to break through it without a single doubt in their mind?" said Birdie, "Maybe?"

"Stupid enough to maybe leave the whole proper process's note in the book?" Lorelei pulled out a note that had her aunt's messily written process to become an animagus on it.

"Oh, Godric" Hope said as she sat down on the couch and pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Reckless enough to return the book back to the library hoping someone else finds out about it?" Birdie said as a smile formed on her face, it fell as she saw the glare Hope was giving her, "Look, Hope, I know you feel like we're doing this out of pity, but we're not, we're doing it because you've spent all those years alone in your grandparents' house without someone to tell you what to do properly, you didn't have your dad to tell you what to do and what not to do, all because your grandparents were angry with him. You don't deserve to go through all that alone every month"

"Let us do this, please?" Lorelei asked as she sat down on the couch next to Lauren too, "You don't have to go through this alone now, Hope"

Hope's eyes welled up with tears as she saw her two friends in front of her looking at her with their puppy dog eyes, that was all she ever wanted, wasn't it? Someone to be with her everytime she had to go through it? Then why was this offer not easier to accept, she knew her problems would be less if only she could have someone to transform with and damn it she was tired of going through that every month alone.

"Well, if we're doing this, I want a kick-ass name for our friend group" Hope said wiping her tears and Lorelei and Birdie chuckled beside her.

"Done, I'll think of one" Birdie assured her, "and it's going to be pretty damn kick-ass"

"Aw, guys did we just become best friends again?" Lorelei asked, her voice in a coo-ey tone, "We're back"

"We're back" Birdie repeated with a smile.
