Arna Stayed With Simon (16)

3rd Person POV

Connor walks out of the elevator, making sure to hack the panel so no one can follow him, and heads to the androids toward the middle of the room. He grabs one of them but looks away as he sees movement out of the corner of his eye. He freezes as Arna walks out from the rows of androids with a gun to her head, held by...him?

"Easy, fucking piece of shit!" Arna exclaims.

"Step back, Connor!" the other Connor says. "And I'll spare her."

"Sorry, Connor," Arna says. "This bastard's your spittin' image."

"Your friend's life is in your hands. Now it's time to decide what matters most! Her...or the revolution." She shakes her head.

"Don't listen to him! Everything this fucker says is a lie!" Connor looks at Arna sadly.

"I'm sorry, Arna!" he calls. "You shouldn't have got mixed up in all this!" She shakes her head.

"Forget about me," she replies. "Do what you have to do!" He looks at the clone.

"If I surrender," he says, "how do I know you won't kill her?" The clone smirks.

"I'll only do what is strictly necessary to accomplish my mission," he says. "It's up to you whether or not that includes killing this human." He presses the gun closer to Arna's head, and she rolls her eyes.

"I'm not a human, dipshit. If you're gonna threaten someone, do it right." He grits his teeth and hits her in the side of the head with the barrel of the gun. She cries out and presses a hand to it, small amounts of thirium dripping through her fingers.

"Enough talk!" the clone exclaims. "It's time to decide who you really are. Are you gonna save your lover's life? Or are you going to sacrifice her?" Connor grits his teeth and lets go of the android's arm quickly.

"Alright, alright!" he says. "You win." The clone moves the gun to aim at him. Arna takes the chance to attempt to take the gun, and Connor runs towards them. He shoves the clone backwards. He regains his balance, fighting back. Arna glances between them and notices the gun, now abandoned on the floor. She runs towards it and picks it up, pointing it at the two Connors.

"Hold it!" she yells. They stop and look at her. She looks between them, trying to figure out who is who.

"Thanks, Arna," one says. "I don't know how I'd have managed without you. Get rid of him, we have no time to lose." She frowns.

"It's me, Arna," the other says calmly. "I'm the real Connor."

"One of you is my friend," Arna says. "The other is a sack of shit. Question is, who is who?"

"What are you doing, Arna?" the one on the right says. "I'm the real Connor. Give me the gun and I'll take care of him!" He starts to step forward, but she aims the gun at him.

"Don't move!"

"Why don't you ask us something?" the one on the left says. "Something only the real Connor would know." She nods.

"Uh, where did we first meet?"

"An alleyway outside the theatre district!" the right one says. "I had found Hank, and he said we needed you. We went to the scene of a homicide. The victim's name was Carlos Ortiz." The other frowns.

"He uploaded my memory."

"What's my dog's name?" she asks.

"Alba." The left one. "His name is Alba." The other shakes his head.

"I knew that too. I..." Arna sighs.

"My mother," she says. "What's her name?"

"Maria," the one on the left says. "Her name was Maria. She and her husband died in a car accident five years ago, and you were supposed to be given to their nephew, but he hated androids, so you ran away and met Hadley. They helped you fit in with humans and fixed you as much as they could whenever you needed it, and the two of you tried to help other deviants find a safe place, but you never stayed, and some of them were angry with you for it. That's why you gave up on helping them." Arna scoffs and shakes her head.

"I gave up on them because I was afraid," she says. "Afraid to get too close to anyone because every time I had, I'd lost them. My parents died, Simon left, and I almost died for him. They were right to be angry with me. I was a coward. Until I met you." The right one's eyes widen.

"I knew about your mother too!" he says. "I would have said exactly the same thing! Don't listen to him, Arna, I'm the one who-" She grits her teeth and shoots him. His body falls to the floor, and she looks at the real Connor.

"I've learned a lot since I met you, Connor," she says. "Maybe it's okay to trust people. Okay to open yourself up." She shrugs. "Maybe it makes you stronger. You can make the world a better place." He smiles. "Go ahead, and do what you gotta do." He starts to turn away but looks back at her. He smiles and holds out a hand.

"If I can help our people," he says, "you can too." She smiles and takes his hand, following him over to the rows of androids. He nods to them, and they each take the arm of an android. "Wake up!" The two androids they have a hold of jerk awake and look around. Their LEDs blink yellow, and they reach out to touch the androids around them, repeating the words Connor spoke. Connor looks down at Arna, smiling softly. She smiles back at him, and he wraps an arm around her shoulders, hugging her tightly.
