Connecting to Black (Chapter 9)

Hey guys, sorry it's been so long. I'll try to update every other night, but with school and a lot of advanced classes, I might not keep up. Anyway, thanks for reading, feel free to comment, and hope you enjoy!

Shiro's POV:

They would be back soon.

Shiro was awake, had been for hours, maybe days. He kept his eyes closed and his breathing slow and even, making the scientists assume he was still unconscious whenever they came to observe or check on him.

He heard their conversations across him while they worked. His charade wouldn't last much longer. They were growing impatient, ready to test his arm and interrogate him again.

They had left the room again a while ago. Shiro knew when they came back, they would be ready to act.

He had to escape. To grab his things and leave. To find the others. To find Black...

Or maybe the Lion could find him. He connected fastest with the Lion when they first trained. Although Keith had the strongest bond amongst the pilots and their lions.

He had to strengthen his bond with the Black Lion, or they would never see the others again. Shiro took a deeper breath, focusing, picturing the Black Lion, of Voltron, of everything they had all gone through together.

This would be no different.

Black... Shiro mentally called, afraid to whisper should the scientists discover him awake. The other Paladins are in trouble. The other Lions are in trouble. Voltron is on the verge of being destroyed. Please, help me, and we can free them together. We can save them together, protect Voltron! I can't do it without you...

A roar filled his ears, and his eyes flashed open. Had he imagined it? Could the captivity be making him go insane? Or had the Lion actually heard him?

The door slid open; Shiro's time was up.

"Takashi Shirogane," a scientist read before giving his clipboard to the man in sunglasses and a suit beside him.

"Hmm, the lost pilot of the Kerberos mission, returned a few years back only to rush off to space again--"

"It's not like it was voluntary," Shiro muttered.

"Still, that's a long time," the agent continued. "Where have you been, since the Kerberos launch? And where might your arm be?"

Shiro balled his fists. He already despised the guy. Shiro had done no injustice to deserve such cruel and unusual punishment. Yet, here he was.

"What I've seen would take months to explain."

"You seem to have time," the agent countered. "You had mentioned Voltron when you first returned a year after Kerberos. Is that the Lions?"

Shiro didn't reply, but he didn't necessarily need to.

"And you said someone was destroying worlds. Who might they be?"

"That doesn't matter. You wouldn't know what they were, and we stopped them anyway."

"It wouldn't have anything to do with Mr. Kogane's unique blood, would it?"

Shiro froze, his entire body tense. "Yes, the 'Galra'. We had tests run on him, a half alien disguised as a human. He will provide much useful information for the mankind you betrayed--"

"No!" Shiro roared, thrashing against his bindings. "Leave Keith alone!"

"That's enough questions for now," the agent informed the scientist as he returned the clipboard. "You're free to test his arm. It may hold some more secrets."

The agent walked out as the scientists hooked up cords and wires to Shiro's temples and prosthetic. The agent closed the door behind him, Shiro's pain filled screams echoing throughout the entire complex.
