Chapter 43 - Tournament Turmoil

Days, past and days turned into just over a week. The final four matches were scheduled to start.

"Lets hope you two don't face each other" Ash looked at Brock and Misty, the only two in the gang to have not had a battle yet.

"Right" Misty didn't turn to Ash, Brock didn't reply. They both stared at the screen as the eight pictures began to spin like a betting machine.

"For our first match, we have Brock vs Kieran!" The announcer made Brock sigh.

"Looks like we both still have a chance to go through, huh" Brock turned to Misty, who nodded.

"You better make it through, cos' I will" She replied with the utmost amount of confidence.

"Our next match is Misty vs Maxine!"

The final two matches were announced and everyone moved to their assigned arena. Brock stayed at the centre stage, the boys staying to support him, while the girls headed to second arena to watch Misty.

"Ok, Steelix, you're up first!"

"A Steelix, hmm?" Kieran asked, flicking his hair to the side. "Lets go, Growlithe"

"Hmm" Brock knew he was at a type disadvantage, so his strategy was going to be an all out attack-based strategy.

"Let the matches begin!"

"Growlithe, flamethrower!"

"Steelix, dodge and use iron tail!" Brock watched as Steelix smoothly dodge the flamethrower that singed the ground and then his tail became wrapped in a coat of iron. Steelix span his tail around and hit the Growlithe in the face, sending it back slightly.

"You okay Growlithe?" Kieran asked his Pokemon, who nodded.

"Steelix, bind" Brock continued to attack, not letting Growlithe move in with its fire moves.

Steelix wrapped itself around Growlithe and slowly began to squeeze, applying pressure onto the Pokemon's body, weakening it bit by bit.

"Growlithe, no!" Kieran watched on as Growlithe began to fade. Then, he had an idea. "Flare blitz!" He shouted out in desperation.

Growlithe shrouded itself in flames and Steelix immediately let go of Growlithe, the fire being too hot for Steelix to handle. Growlithe then turned on its hind legs and sprinted straight into Steelix, putting everything behind the move. There was so much force that the flames began to go up in smoke, causing a miniature explosion.

"Steelix?!" Brock peered into the smoke and could see Steelix moving, but barely.

"Growlithe, flamethrower!" Kieran was now on the attack. Just as the smoke cleared up and Steelix came into view, Growlithe blasted a huge breath of fire at him, the flames exploding over Steelix's hard body. With fire being super effective against steel, Steelix was struggling to cope and Brock could see his Pokemon's struggles.

"Your Steelix isn't strong enough to defeat fire types it seems" Kieran mocked Brock, who clenched his fist in retaliation.

"We'll show you who isn't ready to defeat anyone!" Brock retorted. "Steelix, bind again. Don't give in!"

Steelix, before anyone else could react, latched onto Growlithe once more, wrapping Growlithe tightly in his tail.

"Steelix, dragon breath"

Steelix replied by taking a deep breath and then he exhaled a huge gust of breath, purple in colour. It hit the trapped Growlithe, who continuously flinched as the dragon breath rolled by.

"No way-" Kieran's mouth was agape, he couldn't believe it.

"It must be my lucky day" Brock said flatly, looking at Growlithe, who was struggling to move. The sparks of electricity said it all, Growlithe had been paralysed.

"A 30% chance to paralyse an opponent and it took one try, that's defying some odds there" Cilan said to the gang, in particular Serena, who seemed a little confused.

"Steelix, iron tail, lets make this bind a little tougher" Brock's plan shifted gears, Kieran knew his Growlithe couldn't take anymore.

"Growlithe, return" He said, returning his Growlithe before the iron tail could do any extra damage.

"A smart move on your part" Brock smiled at Kieran, who returned it.

"I must give you credit where credit is due, it must be your lucky day indeed" Kieran nodded, pulling out a second pokeball. "Lets make this interesting, shall we?"

Before he could even throw the Pokeball, the sudden drop of rain that pinged off of it distracted him. "Huh?" Kieran looked up and then all hell broke loose.

The black dragon figure flying in the sky flew into the clouds, Kieran being the only person to catch sight of it. As soon as the thunder boomed and the lightning came crashing down, Kieran understood what it was.

"What is it?" Brock shouted as the rain began to plummet down onto the ground, the noise blocking out most regular sounds.

"I saw Zekrom, in the sky!" Kieran shouted back, becoming serious.

"Zekrom, are you sure?" Brock waited for the nod and then ran over to his friends, who had all immediately huddled inside. The match was momentarily on halt due to the weather, so the spectators could stay dry while the staff members closed the stadiums roof.

"You okay Brock? The sudden weather change was a little too drastic" Ash said as they all sat down.

"My opponent, Kieran, I think, said he saw Zekrom" Brock said to the group, causing them all to think.

"Well, it would make sense" Gary came walking up, causing everyone to turn and face him.

"Why?" Ash asked, being the densest person in the group.

"Zekrom is an electric type and he is capable of summoning thunder and lightning around his presence" Cilan said, being the Unova Pokemon expert.

"Like when I first came to the Unova region" Ash recalled, making Cilan nod in reply.

"So, if we have a Zekrom flying around on its own, what do we do?" Clemont wondered to everyone.

They all sat in silence for a moment and thought. Then, three things happened at once.

There was a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning, then, Pikachu suddenly flashed blue and electric sparks flew all around him. Pikachu then fainted on the spot, being overloaded with electrical energy. Next, the whole room shook as something landed on the roof.

"This truly must be Zekrom, the legendary Pokemon" Ash jumped out of his seat, scooped up Pikachu into his arms and sprinted outside, everyone following behind him.

As soon as he got outside, he noticed the girls sprinting over, looking at the roof. Ash turned and their suspicions had been confirmed. Zekrom was there, but with unexpected guests on its back.

"Oh, well if it isn't Ash Ketchum and his friends" Parker sneered, jumping off of Zekrom, who waited patiently on the roof. "I suggest you leave before we remove you by force"

"Well, lets see you try to remove us then!" Gary spoke for Ash, challenging Parker, who grinned and then broke into a laugh.

"Zekrom, crush them with everything at your disposal"

"Everyone, spread out and do what you can!"

The rain had made the ground very slippery and with Pikachu cradled in his arms, Ash instantly slipped face first into the mud, making him an easy target.

Suddenly, Serena's Eevee jumped infront of Ash.

"Serena?!" Ash tried to scramble onto his feet, but the mud was too slippery.

The thunder boomed once more and Zekrom had his mouth open, screeching into the now dark sky. Eevee used protect at this moment, the sound waves hitting the protect. The move was so strong Eevee was sent flying back, tumbling down the field. Pikachu was still in Ash's hands, who was now dazed by the hyper voice. Ash's ears began to ring and he couldn't hear anything. The world suddenly began to spin and then everything went black for Ash.

"Eevee!" Serena started to run after Eevee, but a Greninja suddenly blocked her path, Elizabeth stood just behind it.

"Grab her" Elizabeth commanded Greninja in a cold hearted voice. Serena screamed as the strong Greninja grabbed her arm began to take her away. Parker heaved Ash onto his shoulder and they jumped onto the Zekrom.

"I guess we will teach some of you the hard way" He said with a smirk, before they flew off.

"Ash, Serena!" Everyone shouted, desperately trying to catch up with Zekrom before it could get too high, but no one made it in time.

"Why are you all so scared?" May asked in a light hearted voice, making everyone feel nervous. They all, one by one, slowly turned to May, whose eyes were now red and her head was tilted to one side. "Just let the darkness consume you!"

"M-May?" Dawn stuttered, watching as her friend went from a kind and gentle soul, to a maniac completely devoid of any 'real' life.

"Dawn, you are my best friend. Why don't we embrace the darkness together?" May asked, with a shriek of laughter. "Come closer, dear Dawn, it will all be okay" May took a step forward and Dawn stepped back.

"May, what is going on?" Brock shouted, making May turn to him.

She stared at him for a moment, before collapsing onto the floor, passing out.

"We need to try and find Serena and Ash, now!" Cilan immediately turned to the problem at hand. "Someone pick up May, we can try and solve her problem after this one!"

Everyone knew Cilan was right. With no time to lose, they all set off to try and find Ash and Serena, who were Team Shadow base bound.
