We were too late.

The battle had already begun, and the two king were clashing on Skull Island.

Our ships arrived near the island's shore, where the two massive titans were fighting, and observed the battle.

The two beasts must have noticed our presence, because they both simultaneously turned to look at us, and began chattering our way, supposedly trying to communicate with us.

"Get the translator!" I yelled, and my assistant walked up to me with the device, which began translating what the two beasts were saying.

"They both want us to attack the other." my assistant explained. "Apparently they don't know that both of them are our allies.

"Orders, sir?" asked a navy officer next to me. "Who do we target?"

"Focus fire..."

"What, sir?"

I couldn't decide. They were both good monsters. They both fought to keep balance. But who to choose? I couldn't choose both.

"Focus fire..."

I held my head in my hands, trying to think.

"Focus fire..."

Then, I made my decision.

"...Focus fire on Kong."

The officer standing next to me nodded. He then called out to the other boats. "Come on boys! Blast that monkey into next week!"

A thunderous orchestra of firing guns filled the air as the entire fleet focused on Kong. The giant ape's eyes widened in both fear and surprise, and he began to duck for cover.

But Godzilla was already on him.

Missiles meant for Kong bounced harmlessly off Godzilla's scales as he charged the ape, and bit into his shoulder. Kong roared in pain, and Godzilla whirled around and threw Kong through the air, and he landed in the waters behind the fleet.

"Make way for Godzilla! Quick!" I yelled, and the boats in Godzilla's path began to slowly move out of the way as the King of the Monsters trudged towards his opponent. Kong shuddered, and stood back up.

The two beasts stared each other down, until Kong roared, then turned and swam away from the island.

Godzilla roared victoriously, before walking back to the island.

"Our job here is done, men." I said. "But we're going to have to chase after Kong now."
