Hello everyone and welcome back to another chapter in my Godzilla series discussion page. In today's chapter we're going to be taking a look at Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla!

(BTW I love this intro scene with Godzilla.)

Ok this one gets kind of a bad wrap in the Heisei series as being one of the weaker ones and I can see why. It has its issues but I'm willing to let some of that slide because I love SpaceGodzilla so much.

(This video goes over all his powers and explains his powers so watch that first).

Anyways, I love SpaceGodzilla. From his design, to his abilities. This is an awesome Kaiju and he is my favorite Godzilla villain. I always loved playing as SpaceGodzilla in the various Godzilla fighting games. (Godzilla: Save the Earth was my favorite).

The plot of this one involves G-Force trying to find new ways to stop Godzilla. One version involves them controlling Godzilla using the telepathic abilities of Miki Saegusa and the other involves the robot Moguera. A character who first appeared in the movie the mysterians. Part of me kind of wishes that they would have just rebuilt Mechagodzilla instead. But, at the same time Moguera has only appeared in one movie and needs some love too.

SpaceGodzilla shows up early on in the movie and after having a battle in space with Moguera. Kicking a lot of ass in the process. Like seriously SpaceGodzilla easily takes out Moguera with ease. Before heading to earth to fight Godzilla.

Oh yeah, as you can see in the above image Baby Godzilla has grown a little and is now "little Godzilla"

Isn't he just the most adorable thing ever? Although, I'm noticing that the design is starting to look a little more like Minilla. Oh well it's just for one movie.

At the end of their first battle SpaceGodzilla pretty easily kicks Godzilla ass before he kidnaps Little Godzilla and traps him in some crystals. Then Godzilla just leaves without trying to even free his son. I mean what the hell!? Why would he just leave!? I read online somewhere that there was supposed to be a scene where Godzilla tries to free his son but they cut it for reasons.... Why would you cut that!?

(The above image showcases the scene that I'm referring to).

After their first battle SpaceGodzilla leaves to go to Japan. Why he wouldn't finish off Godzilla immediately is beyond me. Once the first battle concludes it is at this point in the movie where it kind of drags. There's stuff involving Miki getting kidnapped by the Yakuza and her getting rescued but I don't particularly find any of it that interesting. The only character who is remotely interesting in this one outside of Miki is this one guy named Yūki who is out for revenge against Godzilla for killing his friend who died in the movie Godzilla vs Biollante. I like the idea of someone who has a personal vendetta against Godzilla. But, I don't think that this reached it's true potential. A better example of this conflict working better in a movie was with Sam Jackson in Kong Skull Island.

So after a lot of that subplot stuff passes we finally get the final battle in the city which has Godzilla and Moguera teaming up to fight SpaceGodzilla. It's a pretty entertaining fight and is the highlight of the movie for me. The fight ends when Godzilla unleashes his super atomic breath to destroy SpaceGodzilla. (He also destroys Moguera in the process too).

And that's basically where the movie ends. The only other things worth mentioning are that we find out that Little Godzilla is ok and he can now shoot radioactive bubbles.

Also, I didn't mention earlier but the cosmos (Mothra's twin fairies) make an appearance in the movie where they tell Miki about SpaceGodzilla and stuff.

But, other than that. There's not too much else I have to say about this movie. It's an ok entry. The music is not up to par with previous entries, the human stuff is ok, and the plot is nothing to write home about. The main reason that it mostly holds up for me is due to nostalgia. This movie was the first of the Heisei films that I ever saw and I thought it all looked really cool back then. Nowadays it doesn't hold up quite as well. However, it has some redeeming qualities. Godzilla is obviously one of them. But, the main reason to watch this movie is for SpaceGodzilla and to see all that he can do. Other than that the rest of the movie is just ok. Not good, not bad, but just ok to me. Anyways, what do you all think of this movie? Let me know in the comments below and we can continue to talk about it some more. Thank you all for reading and I'll be back again sometime soon to close out the second series!
