Well the time has come for us to close out the second series! In today's page we will be discussing Godzilla vs. Destoroyah!

What a way to close out the second series. After Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah this is my favorite in the Heisei series. It's the only one of these movies that makes me shed a tear by the end of it.......

Godzilla Dies At The End.

Plot/Summary:
So the plot of this one is that the radioactivity Godzilla in Godzilla is getting out of control and he is in danger of melting down. (Something that could potentially wipe out all life on earth). Hence why for this movie he has this burning Godzilla Form.

So with Godzilla having a melt down the military has to try and stop him. But, they can't use conventional weaponry as that could trigger the meltdown/explosion sooner.They debate several ways as to do defeat Godzilla including using the weapon that killed the original Godzilla which was the Oxygen Destroyer. Also during the movie scientists discover that there were in fact creatures that were mutated by the Oxygen Destroyer.

These little deadly creatures then come together to form one of the deadliest and most Awesome of Godzilla's foes Destoroyah!

What an awesome deign. This thing looks like some sort of demon/devil type creature. Destoroyah is one of my favorite villains in the series. I mean just look at it!

Anyways, so not only does Japan have to deal with Godzilla melting down and ending all life on earth but they also have to worry about this thing. However, the government thinks that since this thing was mutated by the Oxygen Destroyer that it might be able to kill Godzilla before he has his meltdown.

Or if that doesn't work their plan is to freeze Godzilla at the exact moment that he melts down using their new freezing weapons that includes the all new and improved Super X III.

Unlike the first 2 super x vehicles this one specializes in freezing weaponry. There is a pretty cool scene where they freeze Godzilla the first time. I really want to know how they performed the freezing effect because I think it looks really cool.

So now that they got their plan in place (get Godzilla to Destoroyah/freeze him at right point in time). They now need to find a way to get them to confront each other. So the way that they lure him is by using Godzilla Junior as bait. (The way that they lure junior to Destroyah is with Miki Saegusa and her psychic abilities).

As you can now see Godzilla Junior is now fully grown. (Well almost, the dorsal plates aren't fully developed and he's not quite as big as Godzilla but he's getting there).

So with Junior located they lure him to fight Destoroyah and in their initial battle junior is able to take on and defeat Destoroyah. The fight gets pretty intense with Destoroyah stabbing junior in the neck and such. After he initially defeats that form of Destoroyah Godzilla Junior has a nice little reunion with Godzilla. However, not everything goes so well for him as the fully adult Destoroyah emerges and kills Junior and beats the crap out of Godzilla.

Damn this scene is sad too! The music by Akira Ifukube is incredible here and really adds to the movie. This is the last Godzilla movie that he ever composed and he didn't disappoint. Some of his best work he's ever done is in this movie.

So in the final battle we see Godzilla get sad after his son dies and he starts to defeat Destoroyah but it's ultimately the military that takes him down. Then Godzilla finally has his melt down and dies. It's a pretty incredible scene and is something you don't forget. Although I think it sucks that Destoroyah gets taken out by the military instead of Godzilla. As the movie ends we see that all the radioactivity dispelled by Godzilla is used to resurrect his son who grows to full a Godzilla size and inherits the title of King of the Monsters. Sadly, we still have never gotten a continuation from this scene. I've always wondered what happens after this. But, that's something I'll never get the answer to and I've learned to live with that.

Best Things About This Movie:
There are several things I really like about this movie. 1. Having Burning Godzilla becoming a little ticking time bomb really ups the stakes for this movie and adds to the suspense. 2. Destoroyah is an awesome villain. 3. The music by Akira Ifukube. 4. The sad emotional moments. 5.Seeing Godzilla Junior grown up and  looking a lot like his father. 6.It's callbacks to the original 1954 movie. This one has plenty of callbacks to the original with the Oxygen Destroyer factoring into the plot, and I like how they brought back the actress who played Emiko from the first movie. 7. Oh and the cheesy action scenes where the humans go full James Cameron's Aliens and take out the smaller Destoroyahs. Come to think of it there's a lot I like about this movie.

In terms of complaints I don't really have too many. I guess you could say that the human stuff isn't quite as interesting as other movies but it's not enough to kill the movie for me. Also, it definitively does kind of drag a little at points but by the end I'm pretty satisfied. All in all this is a great way to end the second series. I feel like the Heisei series was the most consistent in terms of quality and tone. Plus i feel like when Godzilla dies it feels more impactful because we watched him evolve over the course of the second series. When I typically think of Godzilla this is the take on the character I think of. The anti hero of sorts. Where he's both the villain and the hero in the same movie and he doesn't care about mankind. Anyways, that's going to wrap it up for this entry in the Godzilla series and the second series overall.
