Hello everyone and welcome back to another chapter in my Godzilla Discussion Page. In today's chapter we will begin our journey through the millennium series by taking a look at Godzilla 2000!

Almost immediately after Godzilla 98 came out it left a lot of fans pissed off at how one of their favorite characters was treated. This helped give Toho the urge to start making another movie. Despite having killed Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.
Godzilla 2000 is the first in the millennium series. Which in my opinion is the weakest of the 3 Godzilla series. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy the movies. It's just that overall it's not quite as good as the Shōwa or The Heisei series and I feel like a lot of that has to do with its consistency. Almost every movie in this series ignores the previous set of films continuity and instead is a direct sequel to the original 1954 film.

In this next part I want to start to talk about a little bit of the good and bad aspects of the movie before I get to the summary portion.
The Good:
1. The True Godzilla is Back!
Lets start out by talking about the good of Godzilla 2000. Most importantly of all it gave us the true Godzilla again. He's indestructible and breathes fire. He doesn't run from the military like Zilla does.
2. Orga!!!!
It was a nice surprise to see A new Kaiju in this movie. Orga is a unique looking monster and also a total badass. He's one of my favorite monsters to play as in Godzilla Save the Earth.
3. Godzilla!!!!!!!
Ok this moment is amazing... I laugh every time I see it. Just pure joy.

The Bad:
As refreshing as it is to see the true Godzilla back I will admit that Godzilla 2000 wasn't one of my favorites. I liked it when I was younger but nowadays it doesn't hold up quite as well for a few reasons.
1. The Terrible CGI
Wow the new Godzilla PS2 game looks great right? Wrong! This is an actual shot from the movie. Look, I understand that these movies don't have the largest of budgets but come on that looks terrible. I don't see why they couldn't just film it all practical like they did in the Heisei and Shōwa series.
2. Godzilla's Design
I don't like this design of Godzilla. It's visually unappealing to me. The Dorsal Plates on Godzilla's back are too big and his face doesn't look right to me.
3. The Movie Drags at points.
Another Issue I have with this movie is that it does drag. Especially when Godzilla isn't on screen. It's not particularly paced all that well. Now, while the characters in this movie aren't as insufferable as in Godzilla 1998 they don't really stand out all that much to me accept for the one guy who yells Godzilla!!!!! Before he gets squashed.
Plot/Summary:
Ok so there's some more positive and negative things in the movie but I just wanted to do a brief little rundown first. The Godzilla Prediction Network is tasked with trying to find and study Godzilla and also try to predict when Godzilla will strike Japan next. Next thing that happens is that a UFO is discovered deep in the Pacific Ocean. The scientists try to raise it but it goes crazy and attacks them and it also does battle with Godzilla.
(BTW is it just me or does this look like a giant turd?)
Anyways, after their initial battle we see that it is just a rocky exterior and the real ufo is underneath.
Soon we begin to find out that the UFO is trying to recreate the regeneration abilities that Godzilla has. At one point they steal all the data that the military and that has on Godzilla and then they manage to steal some of Godzilla's DNA In order to create orga.

So orga is created and ends up having a battle with Godzilla. At one point Orga even attempts to devour Godzilla similar to how a snake eats its prey.

But, that turns out to be a really stupid move as Godzilla just blows orga up from the inside. You would think that after all the research this UFO has on Godzilla that it would have remembered the atomic breath. (Which by the way looks great in this movie). Anyways, after Godzilla defeats orga he kills that one guy in that pretty funny scene and then the movie ends with him just destroying Tokyo. We also get to hear that classic Akira Ifukube music and it's great.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on Godzilla 2000. I enjoyed it when I was younger but nowadays it doesn't hold up quite as well and is probably my least favorite in the millennium series or about on par with the next film in the millennium series. (Godzilla vs. Megaguirus). Anyways that's going to wrap it up for this chapter in my Godzilla discussion page. If you want to talk about this movie some more be sure to leave a comment below. As always thank you for reading this and I hope you all have a nice day and I'll see you next time.
