As he got closer, he set down a device he was carrying, and pressed several buttons on it. He then took off his helmet and approached me.

Then, I realized what the device he was carrying was.

He's sacrificing himself for me.

He laid his hand on my snout, and said to me in Japanese;

"Goodbye...old friend."
