S2Ch4. Asgard
When they landed, they were on a bridge.
A long, wide bridge made of shimmering glass of different colours that seemed to have no end. Or maybe there was an end; maybe the end was the gigantic golden palace situated a distance away.
Beside them was- some of them stared in awe- a breathtakingly beautiful scenery. There were hills in green, valleys with rivers, gardens of flowers. The sky... sweet lord, the sky. The sun was bright orange and golden, but the background was reddish blue and shimmering with stars. It wouldn't seem logical, it wouldn't seem scientific, but hell, it worked out and it worked out fantastically.
"Where the hell are we?" Lui asked.
"The future," Rantaro replied, eyes still wide open in wonder.
"Of course I know that," Lui snapped. "Where are we? What is this place?"
"Calm down lil' dude," Shu muttered. Lui glared.
Jin ignored them. "This is not obviously Japan, but I think... I think I've read about this before..." he pondered and stared at the bridge bellow his feet. "Rainbow bridge... wait, this is the Bifröst-" His face lit up in realisation.
"Bifrost?" Daina questioned. "Isn't that from the Marvel movies..."
"This is even prettier than movies," Valt beamed.
"You're not incorrect," Jin said to Daina. "But movies are inspired by mythology, and the Bifrost is a part of mythology. So this means..."
"Out with it, will you?" Lui said.
Jin glared for a second. "This is Asgard. We are in Asgard, the realm of spirits and gods."
"Another realm- That's what the prophecy said," Zac pointed out.
"Yes, this is all according to the prophecy," Naoki observed. "But where should we head to-"
He was cut off by a loud voice behind them. "Welcome to Asgard from the past," the voice rumbled.
"Who's there?" The bladers turned around. The man who had spoken kneeled in front of them.
"What the-" Lui started. The man had very white skin, brownish golden hair, a beard with the same colour, and a helmet. He was dressed in recognisable Viking clothes, and in his hand was a horn. His eyes were on the ground. Ah, of course. No eye contact.
"Greetings, I am Heimdall," he said, still kneeling down. His voice was heavy with... respect?
"Heimdall?!" Valt gasped. "But... you're black in the movies!"
Heimdall chuckled. "Well, now you've seen the real thing," he grinned. His teeth was golden.
Xhaka reached out his hand. "Hey, you don't have to keep bowing like this. Stand up! Why would you even kneel?" He laughed. The man took his hand and stood.
"You, you are a good man, I tell you, and you haven't changed a bit. Why wouldn't I kneel?" His tone suddenly mischievous.
The bladers raised an eyebrow in confusion. Heimdall chuckled again. "Come on, let's get moving, you have someone to meet."
"Someone to meet?" Shu asked.
"You'll know. Follow me."
They had reached a pair of bronze gates after five minutes on the glass bridge. Jin suddenly stopped.
"Heimdall?"
"Yes?"
Jin bit his lower lip. "In the books, you are the guardian and keeper of the Bifrost. You aren't supposed to go all the way up to here. With all respect, why?" He asked.
Heimdall nodded. "You're smart. You're even smarter now," He said. "Today... is a very special day. You are correct; I was not supposed to leave the Bifrost. However, I have been given the responsibility of guarding both the Bifrost and the Gates. The gatekeepers have a more important, a more dangerous matter to attend to. Like I said, you will know soon."
He pushed open the gates. A soft white glow emitted from them. "Now, off you go. I can't go in with you," he said.
"But where are we supposed to go?" Shu asked.
"Where do you think? The mountains?" Heimdall joked.
Lui glared at Heimdall. Heimdall shrugged, "Walk to the palace. And go inside. Don't mond the guards, because I'm sure they won't bother you either. Third floor, and look for the biggest pair of black doors. Remember, knock politely. You don't want to interrupt an important meeting." His voice was serious. "Be very respectful, as respectful as you should be to a god. That's all. Now off you go!" The seriousness disappeared.
"Yes! Thank you!" Were the replies.
Heimdall was gone. They were already inside the gates.
Suddenly, the bladers felt very small. There were towers, gardens, statues of dragons and monsters and mythical creatures, playgrounds, and on top of all, the gold palace.
The bladers were not alone. There were children younger than them, teenagers the same age or older, and even adults everywhere. For a second, Asgard didn't seem like a realm of magic, it just looked like a city, a kingdom with life.
Lui's eyes widened. "Is that a stadium?" He whispered.
Shu nodded in response, also as shocked. "I think it is."
This was a kingdom of bladers, bladers just like them, they realised. Bey stadiums seemed to be all around, and everyone had a Beyblade and launcher in hand. The yells of "three, two, one! Go, shoot!" were everywhere.
"OH YEAH! THIS IS AWESOME!" Valt shouted on top of his lungs.
"Oh my god, Valt, stop," Rantaro said lowly. "This is embarrassing- Oh god."
Every eyes turned towards the bladers from the past. There was a pregnant silence.
"See? Look what you did!" Rantaro hissed. Valt grinned awkwardly.
Suddenly, whispers broke out. The future bladers' eyes were still on them.
"...don't..."
"..recognise..."
"..know...."
"....who..."
"...young..."
"....oh my god.."
"...why..."
The whispers went on. The past bladers could only walk away quietly away from the crowd of people.
"What are they talking about?" Zac asked wearily.
"They had never seen us before, so maybe they think of us as intruders," Xhaka said.
"Great," Lui mumbled.
It was difficult, having to endure such an embarrassing situation, but they made it to the palace doors eventually. The people disappeared, and they were the only ones there.
Wakiya touched the golden doors with a shaking hand. "Sweet Jesus... this is a lot of gold..." he gasped.
"Hah? You can't afford it?" Rantaro mocked.
Wakiya glared. "Oh, then I assume that there's someone on Earth that can afford an entire CASTLE of pure gold," he snapped.
"We're in Asgard," Rantaro reminded.
Daina cut in. "Can the both of you just shut up?"
"Tch!" "Whatever."
Shu reached his hand out hesitantly. "Should we... go inside?"
"Yeah, of course," Lui grumbled.
Shu rolled his eyes and pushed. It was very heavy, but he still managed.
Slowly, they entered.
The palace was huge, and it was only the entrance. There were chandeliers and paintings of monsters and creatures. It was very quiet and empty, however.
"Third floor," Naoki reminded.
It was hard, climbing up stairs of great height and length. When they climbed three cases, most of them were panting. (Except Xhaka, 'cause they stairs were a piece of cake to him.)
"The biggest set of doors, black in colour," Jin recalled.
The bladers walked along the hallway. There were not many doors, actually, but the hallway was also as grand. The doors looked the same size. Most of them were black, except some wooden ones without painting. The 'biggest set of doors, black in colour' looked just like the others, only a few inches larger.
Just when Shu placed his hand on the doorknob, Lui hissed, "Knock."
"Oh right," he replied. Taking a deep breath, he knocked thrice. The sound of knocking echoed through the empty hall.
After a few moments, no one replied.
"Uh, should we... go in?" Zac asked no one in particular.
Lui didn't response and slowly pushed the door open. It opened with a soft 'creeeeaaakkk'. The bladers stepped in carefully.
The room was big, but dark. The only source of light was the dim candle fire. There would be sunlight if the velvet curtains weren't closed. In the darkest, the bladers could make out a few steps of stone stairs and a higher stage. The candle was on a long table with sixteen-no, eighteen throne-styled chairs. Three of the chairs was empty.
One of the sitting men stood up. "What are you doing here?" He said in a dangerously chilling voice.
"Um... we are- no, Heimdall said-" someone from the back stuttered. Rantaro.
"Explain yourselves!!" His deep voice rumbled again. His anger sounded... made up.
"No! I mean, we don't mean to interrupt your- uh, meeting..." this time, it was one of the Swordflames- Ukyo, Shu figured.
"When you are looking at kings, you KNEEL!" The voice boomed powerfully again. The bladers quickly fell to their knees and kneeled in fear. Then, there was... giggles and chuckles?
"Oh my god, you're so good at this," another man laughed. His voice sounded childlike.
"Aw, come on, don't be so harsh on them!" This time, an airy, sing-song voice.
"Lookie at them, so scared, so cute... don't scare them like that!" A giggle, tone creepy and low.
"This is just so cruel and funny at the same time," the voice belonged to the tallest figure in the room.
The laughter and giggles continued, and the bladers were still kneeling at the ground, terrified and confused.
"Hah... playtimes over," the cold voice said finally. It lost its 'I will murder everyone here' tone it once had. He nudged the man beside him. "Oi! Make this room brighter, will you?"
"Whatever you say, my lady."
"TSK!"
The man (the one who said 'my lady') walked forward. Shu could sense a warm smile on his face. "You can stop kneeling now. He's just playing with you," he said.
The boys stood up, still very stiff and confused. The man chuckled, "That's better."
He grabbed the candle and... the fire grew wilder and brighter. The whole room was lit from black to orange.
"What the fuck," Lui simply said.
It wasn't the magically growing fire that shocked him. The other bladers would not use the same wordings as Lui, but they agreed.
Themselves. The bladers were staring at themselves. Not a reflection, but them.
"Holy cow?" Xhaka stuttered out.
Their future selves stared right back at them as if nothing strange happened.
They looked very similar, too. Their appearances didn't change a lot, but there still were changes. The one who made the fire glow brighter like magic. He still had silver white hair, but it was longer, long enough to be brushing his shoulders. He was taller, most likely to be the second tallest in the room. He was wearing a dark red cloak of velvet lined with fur, and golden lines and details. Beneath the cloak was black leather pants, a simple black silk shirt and a pair of black boots with silver buckles. He was wearing a simple crown of red velvet and gold. He had fair, high cheekbones and a strong jawline. No eye contact was needed to know his red eyes were blazing. Shu was smiling.
Lui's light blue hair was similar; longer than before, and it was not as wild. It was tied in a messy, curly ponytail, also shoulder-length. Like Shu, he was wearing a cloak, but a dark purple, nearly black, one with grey feathers and silver. He was wearing a leather armour, his arms and shoulders were covered in white metal. He was wearing dark blue tights, also lined with silver, and a pair of metal boots up to his knees. On top of his head was a black silver crown adorned with aquamarines. A sharp purple glow emitted from his eyes, though the past bladers avoided them. His fair face and skin was pale, and his eyelids, eyebrows and cheekbones were covered in light frost. Though still the second shortest in the room, he had also grown taller than his past self.
Zac was wearing his usual mischievous look on his face. He had, undoubtedly, grew even more graceful. His eyes were glowing emerald green, eyeliner black and sharp enough to kill, his long blonde hair was tied into a loose, wide braid. He was wearing a wine red brocade cloak decorated with gold threads, black lace and pearls. Under the cloak were a black silk shirt and tights in grey. He wore a golden belt, the buckle the shape of the Sun. His boots were diamond encrusted leather. He was wearing a tiara adorned with emeralds, rubies and sapphires. He had certainly grown taller like the others.
Xhaka remained the tallest in the room, but he didn't grow much taller than his younger version. His appearance was the least fanciest, but it was still very fit for him. He was wearing simple jeans and a brownish red vest. His biceps were exposed. He was also wearing a cloak like the others, but it wasn't feathery or shiny. Just a simple black cloak with tints of red. He was wearing metal armour boots. His crown was golden, and the only piece of jewellery was the orange beryl in the front. His skin and face was tanned, even tanner than his past self. With looking, they knew his eyes were also glowing. His orange red hair was wild, wilder than ever.
The others also looked a bit different. Valt's face had grown more mature and taller, skin tanner and baby fat gone. Wakiya had let his curly hair down, and had also looked more mature and taller. Rantaro's hair was no longer slicked back, but wild and messier. He looked more muscular, and he was one of the tallest in the room. Daina had grown devastatingly handsome, his smile laced with fair elegance. Ukyo and Yugo had also grown to be stunning men, as well as Akira. Naoki and Jin were also poise and marked by time.
Zac looked at their future selves, eyes wide. "Damn. We're hot."
