S2Ch1. Beginning of the End
"...Shu, what the hell are you doing?"
"Hmm?" Shu didn't even spare Wakiya a glance. "I'm fixing my hair."
Wakiya gave him a look. "What for? You don't usually fix your hair."
He glanced at Shu's hair. And eyes. "Dude, you look like a vampire."
"A real sexy vampire," Rantaro muttered in jealousy.
Shu shrugged and answered Wakiya's question, "I'm going to hang out with Lui."
Valt tripped over air. All the others' heads snapped towards Shu and eyes widened dramatically.
"And Zac," Shu added quickly.
Wakiya coughed and smirked. "Ooh. First date, huh?"
Shu huffed in annoyance. "As if anyone would date him."
"Yeah, anyone except you. Don't know you're gay."
Valt chirped, "He's gay."
Rantaro said, "Oh right. No wonder why he wears pink. It's okay. We all support you."
Shu tried to remain calm, but failed. "Okay, everyone, please stop talking about my sexuality."
The BeyClub ignored him.
"By the way, doesn't Lui's name sound like Yui?" Daina asked.
"Oh, I know where this is headed," Rantaro said.
"I know, I know!" Valt shouted. "Kurenai Shu and Lui! Sakamaki Shu and Yui!"
"Valt, who let you watch Diabolik Lovers?" Shu yelled in response.
Everyone ignored him again.
"And do you know that Sakamaki Shu bit Yui in a bathtub? They are literally bathing together!" Valt continued.
Valt, what happened to your purity?
Shu decided he had enough of this form of fuckery. He stood up, glanced at his watch and said, "I leaving now. I have to meet up with Lui- and Zac," he added, "fifteen minutes later. Bye."
Then he walked away.
"Ah, he's embarrassed."
~~~
Shu checked the time and frowned.
Lui wasn't there yet, and it had already been fifteen minutes; he wasn't the type to be late.
Just when Shu reached for his phone to call the purple eyed blader, said blader came runner towards him.
"Sorry, 'm late," Lui murmured. "I just waked up ten minutes ago."
Shu eyed him up and down. Lui didn't seem to be lying- his hair was... even messier than usual. There were real dark circles under his eyes. He looked as if he hadn't slept all night.
Turned out, he really didn't.
"Nightmares."
Shu raised an eyebrow, "Nightmares? Normal ones, or..."
"Not normal. Those," Lui said. Shu eyes darkened and nodded in understanding.
"What are they about?" Shu asked carefully.
The other tried to remember. "Something- someone. My dreams were filled with hatred, jealousy and coldness. And also misunderstanding. But the darkness was familiar, yet unfamiliar. Other than emotions, I saw flashes: one was about men, sad and sorrowful, facing another man with burning eyes; one was about a ticking clock, its hands turning anticlockwise in a quick pace, like time was running out; the last one was about a flash of white light."
"A flash of white light? Nothing else?"
"No. Just that."
Shu closed his eyes in deep thought. "There is one 'flash' that ticks me off a bit more than the other ones."
Lui tilted his head in question, "Which one?"
"The clock one. Remember the prophecy? Naoki said that it was about time. Time and clocks are related, and bullshit if the prophecy and your dream aren't related as well. Tell me, Lui, what's the catchiest line in the prophecy?"
"I don't really remember... Maybe backwards they turn, for the Kings' fall?" Lui's eyes became wide in realization. "Shu, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Shu bit his lower lip. "Unfortunately, yes. 'Anticlockwise'. That was the exact word that came out from your mouth. And what about 'backwards they turn'? Turn what? The most logical explanation is that people from the future have already turned time and gone back to the past, which means now."
Lui's expression hardened. "Damn, you're right. You're certainly not the 'Beyblade genius' everyone calls you, but you're really are a genius."
Shu gave him a look and said, "Is that supposed to be an insult or a praise?"
Lui shrugged and clicked his tongue. "Both, I guess."
Shu shook his head and laughed. "So, wanna grab some lunch? I just passed a sushi restaurant. There were a nice amount of people, so the food there should be good."
"Whatever." Lui suddenly stopped. "Did you say that there's a lot of people?"
"I believe my exact words are 'a nice amount of people'. So yes."
The Longinus blader quickly pulled out something- two of them, from his backpack and gave one to Shu. "Here."
Shu stared at the object in his hand.
"Sunglasses."
"Yes."
"Real, Dior, sunglasses."
Lui glared. "That too. We, and Beyblade, are getting more and more popular, so take it unless you want to be stalked and swarmed by fangirls. Or fanboys. I had experience, and trust me, you won't want that."
Shu gulped and suddenly found himself pitying Zac and his fame.
Lui put on his own sunglasses, followed by Shu doing the same thing. They also wore caps to hide their... quite unique choices of hairstyles. The two of them did a real great job looking fabulously gay.
The two checked their reflections on the glass door beside them.
"Safe?"
The purple eyed teen nodded. "I guess. May the gods be merciful; if the fans discovered us, we're doomed. We'll be signing autographs and taking selfies with them the whole day."
Shu laughed, "Please no. Anyway, ready for sushi?"
Lui felt his stomach grumble. "Yes. I haven't eaten breakfast."
As they walked towards the restaurant, both felt a familiar chill running down their spines.
Something big was coming.
And they hadn't noticed the bright flash of pastel pink behind them as the girl who was once following them disappeared.
~~~
One Azuki Ben was hungry.
Although he was convinced that the reason behind his hunger was, quote, "I am a beast and beasts are always hungry", he just had an empty stomach as he didn't eat breakfast.
So Azuki Ben decided to cure his hunger.
Ben's team, the Beasts, loved hamburgers and there was a fast food shop near Ben's apartment, so why not invite his teammates for lunch together?
He picked his phone a dialed Kensuke's number first.
Beeeep.
Beeeep.
Beeeep.
Beeeep.
The pink haired blader frowned and hung up. Usually, Kensuke would be the one to call him first. So why...
He then dialed his other teammates, but the result was still the same. As impatient as he grew, he decided to call Kensuke one last time.
Beeeep.
Beeeep-
Ben beamed. Finally!
"Hello?" He said. "Oi, Kensuke, wanna have lunch together? The others aren't picking up-"
"Hello, Azuki Ben."
Ben's face paled at the man's voice; that didn't sound like Kensuke, nor his father. The voice was cold and terrifying.
"Who- who are you?" Ben asked in alarm.
"I won't tell you that, so come and see for yourself," the man chuckled.
"Then... Where's my teammates?! What have you done to them?!"
Ben gritted his teeth in anger as the other laughed, "What have I done? I haven't even touched a single hair of them yet! I just held them hostage, that's all!"
His eyes widened in fear. "K-Kensuke..." hid voice was barely a whisper.
The man was amused, "Kensuke? Ah, the green one. I may say that he is cute, but weak. He didn't even have the strength to struggle when I kidnapped him! Your other teammates-"
"Where are you?!" Ben screamed.
He could almost see the other smirked. "That's the spirit, Azuki Ben.
"Turn around."
"What?"
"I'm behind you."
Afraid and scared, Ben turned around slowly as he eyes widened in horror.
No, his horror wasn't because of the black cloaked, terrifying man whose face was covered.
Lord Heracles smirked and bowed in fake politeness. "I would like you to join me, Azuki Ben."
In his hands was a unconscious Midorikawa Kensuke.
~~~
Naoki reread the prophecy which he had written down for the sixth time and frowned.
"Backwards they turn, for the King's fall?" He wondered. "Jin!"
"Hmm?"
"Do you sense spirits of Kings in the future?"
Jin giggled, "I can sense spirits far away, yes, but not as far as the future."
Naoki groaned, "Well, this is a pain." He read the line again. "Hypothesis: Backwards means 'go back in time', since the whole prophecy is about time. Someone has gone back in time to... dethrone some kings."
"Back in time, huh?" Jin said. "Those people has committed one of the greatest taboos."
"What do you mean?"
"Ever since the first generation of spirits were born, there has been the rule 'do not mess with time'. It is one of the most ancient rules. No one knows what will happen to the people who breaks it though. The punishment is said to be deadly."
Naoki's eyes widened, "But this prophecy is exactly telling us to travel to the future."
"Well, then we're screwed. We have to—" Jin froze.
"What is it, Jin?" Naoki asked.
Jin stared back at Naoki. "Bey spirits."
"Dying."
Naoki's face paled as he felt Nova Neptune and Jail Jormungand's auras growing fainter and fainter.
