Ch14. King Arthur
Weapons could be magical. They could even be deadly. Long ago, weapons used by the Gods were all powered by magical energy. Weapons were said to have different abilities. For example, the Blades of Helios could control the power of the Sun. But out of all weapons, the most powerful and mysterious was probably Xcalibur.
Xcalibur was also known as Excalibur or Caliburn. It was a legendary sword fit for a king. Xcalibur's power was tremendous; it allowed its owner to cut through the crust of Earth, call forth the deadliest earthquakes and crush anything in his path. The legendary sword was said to have the power of not only earth, but also nature.
But how did Xcalibur get such power? Not even Hephaestus, the blacksmith for Gods, could make such a powerful sword. The truth was, Xcalibur was not only a mere weapon and blade. It was a spirit, a magical soul. It was one of the four kings of the spirit realm. Xcalibur was one of the most powerful magical beings in this universe.
And like all the other souls, including Zeus, Longinus and Spriggan, Xcalibur decided to travel to Earth.
His goal was the same as most of the other spirits': to protect and guard worthy mortal human beings. Before coming to Earth, life was purposeless for them; the spiritual realm was a paradise and a heavenly kingdom in humans' eyes, but to the souls, it was just a beautiful but empty place. The souls could live forever and ever and ever, and they had spent their lives in the hollow realm for more then an eternity. They played with their magical powers, danced, ate and lived everyday. Life for the souls were boring.
Until they arrived Earth. They saw so many people, so many helpless and hopeless mortals. If the spiritual realm was heaven, then other then the Underworld, Earth was a complete living hell. There was sickness, anger, saddness, hatred, hunger, betrayal, pain and war. And Zeus, for a second, regretted giving Pandora the Box and letting her open it. Then, the souls thought of a solution; what if they help them? Well, it was not like they couldn't. All the souls eventually agreed to this idea.
"I would like to help and guard someone as bright as the Sun," Zeus said. "The Sun is not fit to be in this rotten world."
Longinus thought for a while. "Well, I would help a cold but good person. Unlike said person you chose, the cold and isolated person needs more help."
"I don't really have a set answer in mind," Spriggan said. "But I would like to help someone fierce and hard-working. Only a mortal with such good character is considered as worthy."
Xcalibur smiled. "The person I choose will just need the will and power of a king. He must be both mentally and physically strong."
It was not long after they found the four princes. And very eventually, the eight became friends and companions. Xcalibur and Prince Alexander was one of the four pairs of friends.
"Prince Alexander. What is your will and ambition?" Xcalibur always asked.
"I want to become as strong as a king. People said I'm going to be one anyway, but becoming a king is not only about bloodlines. It's also about strength and power, and about the ability to rule and lead. I want to have the power, so I can rule this country peacefully and fairly with my brothers by my side," Prince Alexander replied.
Xcalibur nodded, satisfied with the answer. Prince Alexander was definitely the worthy mortal he was searching for. "If that was what you truly wish for, then I will grant it."
Prince Alexander and all of his brothers didn't like war. No one did. But as responsible future rulers, they were always trained to be prepared for it. Wars just... always happened. No one knew why. Maybe it was because of the conflict between two countries? Or maybe for gold? Nobody was certain for sure. And among the four brothers, Prince Alexander fought best in battles.
With the legendary Xcalibur by his side, Prince Alexander was almost undefeatable. The time they lived was long, long ago, and there were no guns, electricity, bombs or cannons. Warriors fought with swords and metal weapons, and physical strength mattered greatly in a battle. Enemies were terrified of both Prince Alexander and Xcalibur. Just hearing the sword's name could cause an enemy to faint in pure terror. No one knew what Xcalibur could do, as the ones who had witnessed the sword's abilities probably didn't have the chance to live and tell the tale.
And with Xcalibur by his side, Prince Alexander earned himself a name: King Arthur, the king who possessed the legendary sword. ~Story fact
"THAT'S IT, DEMON. DAINA IS RIGHT. YOU SHOULD GO TO HELL!!!!" Xhaka roared in anger. His eyes were flashing. Literally. His eyes were glowing orange and brown.
Scarlet took a step back in shock, but smirked. "Ahh, finally! Prince Alexander, you have finally awakened! Finally, finally—!" She was cut off by a huge and thick vine that hurled her way. Scarlet jumped away from her current spot in shock, barely dodging the vine. Two more vines charged at her and tied around her body like thick ropes. The vines were starting to feel tighter and tighter around Scarlet, and the woman screamed in pain.
"Shut up, demon," Xhaka demanded in a cold voice. "This is just one percent of the pain you're about to go through. I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU PAY FOR HURTING MY FRIENDS!!!"
Xhaka snapped his fingers and tall black spikes began to grow around Scarlet. The spikes grew taller and taller, and soon, the woman was trapped inside the cage of plants. She tried to escape through the spaces of the spikes, but she couldn't move. She was pulled towards the ground by gravity.
Scarlet gritted her teeth, but smiled madly afterwards. "What power!!" She laughed. "I'm going to have it!!"
She fired two pieces of crystals at Xhaka and smirked. The crystals were fast, sharp and huge. There was no way Xhaka could dodge them. And she was right. Xhaka didn't dodge them. As soon as the angry blader raised his palm, a large rock emerged from the ground below and blocked Scarlet's attacks. Scarlet looked surprised.
"Wow, not only plants, but also rocks!" She cooed. "Prince Alexander, I'm impressed!"
"SHUT UP!!" Xhaka growled and attacked Scarlet again. She didn't dodged the rocks this time. Yelping, she tripped and fell on the ground.
Xhaka's eyes glowed even brighter, as well as his Bey. Xcalibur flashed red, gold and orange, just like Xhaka's aura. He glared dangerously at Scarlet as she stood up.
Scarlet spat out some blood as green, thick vines wrapped around her body on Xhaka's command. "You're good, Prince Alexander..." she choked. The vines tightened even more. "I have underestimated you and your guardian spirit Xcalibur. Yes! The legendary King Arthur has awakened!"
She then suddenly smirked. Xhaka's eyes widened as a pink and red light emerged from Scarlet's body. The light glowed brighter, and huge pieces of crystals started to form around her. The sharp crystals pierced and broke the plants that tied around Scarlet, and the red haired demon was free from Xhaka's vines.
"How—" Xhaka said as Scarlet laughed. He clutched the glowing Xcalibur tightly in his hand.
Scarlet eyed the Beyblade and giggled. "You almost got me, my prince. With your powerful Xcalibur by your side, you could probably burn me to dust! But..." she chuckled darkly. "Who said you're the only ones with a guardian soul?"
She raised her only hand, and a pink bubbled floated above it. The bubble slowly faded, and a small, delicate object fell onto her palm. The object was red and pink in colour, and it was beautiful carved and made with crystals.
It was a Bey, glowing brightly like Xcalibur, but it looked different. Instead of having three visible layers, it looked like one whole piece of crystal lotus. It had a sharp and pointy tip, while its energy layer and forge disc were like petals. And similar to Wild Wyvern, the energy layer and forge disc were movable, making it incredibly hard to burst. It was an obviously strong Bey.
"Surpised?" Scarlet crackled at Xhaka and the others' shocked looks. "Behold, my unbeatable guardian soul, Sin Scylla! After my reincarnation from Tatarus, I found her also changed into a pathetic spinning top by Fate. Good thing is, I managed to steal it from some of the bladers like you and fill it with dark energy. Now, Scylla will serve me and only me!!"
Before Xhaka could react, crystals were fired at him in lightning speed. They left a big cut on Xhaka's face. Xhaka held his bleeding wound in pain. Scarlet grinned as Sin Scylla began to glow even more, and a spirit formed next to her. The spirit had a form of a woman with octopus and snake tails. She was unmistakably Scylla.
"Xhaka!" Zac shouted and ran towards him. In a few seconds, the cut on Xhaka's face was magically healed in a golden glow.
"I'm fine. Thanks Zac. That demon needed to be taught a lesson," he hissed and closed his eyes. Then, they suddenly snapped open. "Xcalibur!!!"
On his command, the Beyblade started spinning as it dropped from Xhaka's hand onto the floor. It spinned faster and faster, and soon, a spirit emerged from it. The spirit was a man, a god. In his hand, there was a huge, golden sword. The sword looked very similar to the one on his Bey, Xeno Xcalibur. Xcalibur turned towards his caller.
"Prince Alexander, Xhaka, good to see you again," he said. Xhaka gapped at the figure before him, eyes wide. Xcalibur then faced Scarlet and the spirit form of Scylla.
Xhaka looked at the spirit in front of him in awe. Yes, he had seen the spiritual form of Zillion Zeus, but somehow, this time was different. He felt a connection, a bond, between Xcalibur and himself. A bond of not only partners, but also of old friends that had met a long, long time ago...
"Xcalibur? Is that you?" Came Xhaka's reply.
The soul smiled. "Xhaka, I do not have a physical body, and I cannot help you myself, but I can lend you power. Now," Xcalibur said. "Pick up the Beyblade form of me."
Xhaka did as he was told. He picked up his still-spinning Bey. Xcalibur nodded.
"And now," He said. "Launch Xeno Xcalibur. On the floor."
"W-What? On the floor? How will that—"
"Trust me," Xcalibur said. "Xhaka, this is how our bond works. If my Bey form power-ups, the same power channels from me to you."
Xhaka nodded, then grabbed for his launcher. He crouched down.
And in front of Xhaka and Xcalibur, Scarlet laughed. "Ha! Launching your Bey? You think that will work? All powerful people need is power! Bonds and connections are just rubbish! I don't need to use Scylla's Bey form, I just need her magic!"
Xcalibur narrowed his eyes. "Scarlet of Tatarus, you will see how strong a bond can be."
Xhaka smirked. "Xcalibur's right, demon. You're power-hungry, selfish and greedy. You don't know anything about friendship," he said. "Now, Xcalibur!! Three, two, one! GO, SHOOT!!!"
Xeno Xcalibur fell on the ground and started to spin fast. But instead of spinning like it's in a Beybattle, it spinned towards Scarlet. The ground beside the Bey cracked open slightly from the sheer power, and creepers started to grow on the cracking floor in an incredible rate, all hurled towards the demon.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" Scarlet screamed as the plants hit her body. The creepers were sharp, and they left small cuts all over Scarlet's skin. Red cut marks appeared on her face.
"How dare you ruin my beautiful face?! Scylla! Attack!" She snarled and some crystals left her palm as Sin Scylla dropped on the grond and spinned towards Xeno Xcalibur, directed at Xhaka. Xhaka's fist tightly curled into a ball, and huge, long vines shot up from the breaking ground, quickly blocking her crystal attacks. Then, Xcalibur and Scylla crashed hard together.
It was just three seconds before Scylla bursted.
"Sometimes," Xhaka chuckled darkly as Scarlet's face paled when the spirit form of Scylla began to fade. Vines began to grow again around Scarlet. "You should use your brain, demon. You can attack me with your crystals or whatsoever, but you have to choose to Beybattle with me. Are you underestimating me, or overestimating yourself?"
Scarlet gritted her teeth and tried to summon some crystals again. Nothing happened, and Scylla faded completely. "Wha— Scylla! Come back here!! This is an order! How—"
"This is what happens when you abuse a Soul," Xcalibur said. "No matter what form we are, spirits or spinning-tops, you shouldn't use us for your own greedy intentions and for power. Your hunger for power makes you weak."
"WEAK?! Never! I will be queen, and you're not stopping— AAAAAARRRRHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"
No one dared to move as a blood curdling scream left Scarlet's lips. Everyone was frozen. Petrified, Xhaka's grip loosened and the vines around Scarlet fell apart.
Scarlet's eyes widened and bursted. Blood spilled out like red waterfalls. Her body started to fall apart, and her arms, legs and head separated from her body. Her body parts slowly crumbled into pieces, then into sand and dust. It was terrifying, disgusting even. On the side, Valt let out a small cry of horror and Shu quicked covered the boy's eyes.
Xhaka looked at his hand. No, it couldn't be him who had killed Scarlet...
A sweet but insane giggle was heard in the silence. The boys' eyes snapped towards the source of the sound. Xhaka slowly stepped backwards as a figure walked towards them slowly. The figure stepped up towards them. The bladers' eyes widened in both fear and recognition. Xhaka then figured out just who killed the red haired demon.
"Violet..."
