Chapter 40 | changes

While you and L were keeping a close eye on what was going on down in the human realm, the trio were still lounging around the highlands feeling a bit sick. The effects of the ambrosia were definitely kicking in now, they felt alive of course but very woozy. Things seemed to be changing, slowly but surely.

Near felt an ache whenever they went to lean their head on something, a pillow or she shoulders of one of the other successors. And when they looked in the mirror to see what was wrong, under their long white locks they noticed their ears seemed... pointed. Not too much, but they definitely weren't as round as they once were. It was almost elf like.

For Matt, he'd had itchy eyes for days now. Having to fight the urge rub them like it was the middle of hay fever season. But gods that urge was strong, his eye felt teary and looked red. But amongst all that, he did notice he could see very clearly. You'd think having itchy and teary eyes would make your vision worse, but he could see clear as day... even in the dark.

And Mello, he felt nauseous. Which didn't help the fact he was also majorly craving that bittersweet taste of most chocolates. Any food he could smell, he'd have to hold back the reflex to gag he was just that nauseous. The only think he could keep down at the moment was plain chocolate and regular water.

Clearly the ambrosia was heightening certain effects for each of them. They weren't deities by any means, not so much gaining powers as they were having their current abilities and senses sharpened. Unfortunately they'd have to sit through the feeling like shit part of the process for a little longer. Eventually they'd be able to get back to work and life in general with their newfound safety of immortality. But as this was the first time the procedure had been done, they'd become the centre of attention up in the highlands. Everyone wanted to know how things were going, hear the effects and examine the outcomes. While the kami did give them some space to rest and recover, they also couldn't help but pop in to visit every so of en to see what was going on.

And one person in particular was quite intrigued.

"You know guys... once we've seen the full effects and you've reached I guess you could call it the 'final form', you could be placed into the mythos under L..." Apollo said.

The trio, still feeling rather crap we're admittedly a bit intrigued. Gladly having accepted some medicine from Apollo to ease the symptoms and allowing him to look over their changes so far.

"What would we do though? We're not kami we can't exactly do the same things L can" Matt asked.

"It'd be more of an honour thing, you wouldn't be able to grant boons like L can or work with witches, but your story and connection to L would become a part of his mythos and you'd be honoured as his children" Apollo explained.

Apollo was a god of a lot of things. Art, the sun, medicine, music and notably prophecy. He was the one who helped get the mythos of new and minor deities out there into the world in such a way the humans wouldn't question the sudden appearance of a new deity with seemingly no ancient history. Usually through placing them into art, writing, dreams, psychic readings etc. Making their presence known in such a way they wouldn't be written off as just a human hoax. So when he heard of L's children being immortalised in a never before done way he was very curious to see what exactly they'd turn into if not a god, and how he could prophecise them into the mythos.

"I have a feeling you're going to end up very Nymph like. Not a god but definitely not human either. Nymphs are often children or consorts of the gods as well in mythology so you three would fit right in as the nymph children of kami Lawliet and kami (y/n)" Apollo explained.

"I'm definitely starting to look like a Nymph" Near joked, pushing their hair behind their now slightly pointed ear.

"Aren't Nymphs lake and river dwellers though? We don't exactly hang out in water all the time" Mello asked.

"They're not all Naiads and Okeanids, the water ones you're talking about. They can be other nature beings or music ones too. Sometimes even wisdom or oracles, we'll have to see how you develop and what you end up" Apollo replied.

Whatever the case, they did seem to be on track to be very Nymph like. Nymphs usually lived in the aether, where you once lived and the other minor deities lived. But there were a few notable ones up in the highlands that were the children or consorts of certain kami. So a trio of Nymphs, children of L and (y/n) wasn't a completely outlandish thing. It was what exactly they were associated with that would be a mystery until they fully developed.

This process was new, it was interesting. And very amusingly ironic that L and all of his beloved ones were all magic beings dwelling in the highlands, some form of god or god like creature... exactly what Light wanted so badly.

It was just a matter of time until the trio weren't feeling absolutely awful and were fully developed. From there they could document the brand new process, decide if they wanted to be part of L's mythos, and put and end to the Kira problem once and for all. They wondered how things were going with you and L watching Mikami, while they were stuck in the highlands feeling sicker than sick.

The answer? Both amusement and slight worry. You and L were currently watching Mikami over the very few cameras you still had in his house to monitor him, and he was freaking out. Why? He'd discovered the death note was gone. You watched as he tore the house upside down looking for it, panicked and counted the backup pages he had left, rambled about how this was 'lord Kira's way of punishing him' and so on. It was like a train wreck, horrific but you couldn't look away.

Things were going to get very interesting very quickly, you felt like that he final stretch of this case was starting to begin.
