A/n: totally forgot I had this chapter pre-written and edited you guys are lucky. One more update before I gotta dip for a day or two bc I'm going to a con.

Walking around in human clothes with your wings hidden was something you hadn't done in years, it felt odd. But it needed to be done, people couldn't know you were a god. Misa and Zephyr lead you and L through the streets of Osaka, all to answer your question of 'how was the public treating this?'

And boy did you have your answer. Every screen that wasn't an advertisement for a shop was a news cast about the return of Kira. Kiras calligraphy logo was plastered next to L's on newspapers and magazines with headlines to catch a readers attention. Everywhere you turned, it was all 'Kira is back! What will L do this time?' And 'Kira must be a god if he came back after the original case!' 

Once again the public was split in two, those who found Kira to be a god, and those who knew he was just a maniac with some weird power. The existence of death notes weren't made public after the last case, only select few organisations knew. But the public was told of 'a weapon of stealthy mass destruction', and of course all the conspiracy theories came out of the woodworks. Accusations of cover ups, governments hiding information, false news to 'hide the fact Kira is a god' and all that bull shit.

You didn't blame humans for theorising, they didn't know any better. But man... some people were so stupid they made you wonder how humans managed to evolve to this point in the first place.

But the message was loud and clear, Kira was back and the public wanted answers.

"Jesus Christ... it's like the original case all over again..." you sighed.

"The amount of claims about Kira being a god alarms me. I know why humans are jumping to that conclusion, they don't know about the books... but it's giving me cult energy..." L replied.

"Oh Kira has a cult alright, I've never seen one form like this before but it's undeniably a cult" Zephyr added.

It was a cult without a set leader, rather an idol. That was rare, usually cults formed because of a charismatic, manipulative leader. So the fact Kira's followers fit the BITE model without a set person as leader was astonishing.

Behavior, Information, Thought, and Emotional control. That was the BITE model, the offical way to classify what is and isn't a cult. One of those criteria was having a leader, someone who knows how to target and manipulate struggling individuals into giving up their money, faith, lives, possessions all to the leader and their 'cause'. And yet Kira was more of an entity than a person, anyone with the power to kill via heart attack and a big enough god complex could be Kira.

Light was Kira, this new guy was Kira, even Misa was Kira before she snapped out of it.

There wasn't one set Kira, Kira was a concept. And yet, they had a following that resembled cult behaviour. Ritualistic behaviour, all because Kiras ideologies were able to pray on peoples vulnerabilities.

"I've never seen something like this happen before. Even when I had a notebook and was in Lights trap, the followers were never this... passionate. Sure they were wild, but not as unhinged as they are now..." Misa sighed.

Looking around the city, you knew what she meant. Media was all over the case, headlines were everywhere you turned. Last Kira case the followers were more under the impression Kira was some kind of vigilante justice warrior, now they were literally believing he was an other worldly being with some kind of prophecy to be filled, hence the gap in killings.

"And yet... this guy hasn't said a word. Unlike Light I don't think he's in it for the power and his complex. I think he's doing it as a form of worship to the original Kira, unaware he has become Kira himself" you said.

"That's what I think, you're always right sweetheart" L replied.

You gave him a smile and gentle nudge. Even mid case he'd still try and fluster you.

"Damn right I am" you teased.

"I think you're right too, this isn't a guy like Light. It's someone who worships the Kira concept as a whole and hasn't realised he's become the new Kira. He probably found the book and saw it as being 'the chosen one' or a prophet of some kind" Zephyr explained.

"A prophet... messiah, psychopomp... that exactly the situation. No doubt about it. These killings are an act of worship, not a desire to BE god. It's a desire to PLEASE god" L replied.

The public of Japan could tell that this Kira originated from their home like last time, that's probably why the reaction was so much more intense than back in England. The world as a whole was screaming about it but Japan even more so than anywhere else. 

"I just don't understand how a notebook could be floating around the human realm for so long undetected until now... what's the bet this is a last attempt of Ryuk to cure his boredom again?" Misa said.

"Tch, probably..." you replied.

How that death note had circulated the realm for so many years and only NOW was picked up and used you really wanted to know. Did it just land somewhere really rural? Did someone find it and not use it only to pass it on to someone? What shinigami was attached to it? So many questions and yet all you knew what it was in Osaka and this guy was likely a worshiper copycat killer.

"Ugh all the Kira headlines are going to give me a headache" L sighed.

"It's all the news talks about now, I've just stopped watching TV all together" Misa agreed.

You couldn't help but wonder where this damn death note was all these years before it was picked up. Who dropped it? Why? How did it go unnoticed for so long? You had so many questions, but until you could get a suspect you had zero answers. You needed to come up with a trap similar to the Lind L Tailor trap, but it couldn't be too similar or Kira would know what you're trying to do. You knew he was in Osaka, now you needed to know where IN Osaka. Who was this Osakan with a death note?

"We need some kind of trap to lure this guy out... but he's so meticulous and has kept so tight lipped I'm not sure what kind of trap he could fall for" you muttered.

"I'll figure that part out, leave that to me. You handle the magic side of this case ok? We worked well in that dynamic last time, we can pull it off again" L replied.

"You got it honey, you and the kids focus your big, smart brains on tracking this guy down. I'll deal with whatever shinigami is behind this"

If you dealt with Ryuk, you can deal with this other guy. You just hoped they weren't pulling a Rem and falling for the new Kira, that could definitely cause some issues.
