Chapter 8: Mountains

The sounds of grass crunching under her feet was all that filled the silence of the night. In her ears the whir of trees that she ran past narrowly missing, close enough to touch, to sense, but not to hit. Green eyes gazed ahead, never behind to the place she left behind. The foolish, naivety that she believed was to be left behind her,  and she would run.

There were no winners in war, just casualties that meant nothing to the leaders. The weak were to be the meat shields, the strong would come to pick up after them. Well, she would become stronger, she wouldn't be a casualty, and she would let foolish lies sway her again.

In her mind, everyone was full of shit, they said things to brainwash another to their cause. It was simple to get a child to believe anything you say, and install in them bonds that anchor them to the sea floor. In a darkness of sweet, simpering lies and half truths. The surface was just above, next was the swim back, then the run to get away.

They had yet to notice she was gone, that was good. But, she had another pursuing her, a group much worse. Her heart pounded, her breathing hurt, but she wouldn't, shouldn't let that stop her. Her was close, close enough to touch, but not enough to escape.

There was a growl, close enough to see out of the corner of her eye. Then, the left vision filled with red, and the scream ran up into the night.

Ember winced, coming back to her senses, her long black tail trashed a bit, showing her sudden agitation. Her greenish amber eyes looked out over where she was staring absently at, silence filled her ears only to ring lighting at the occasional sound of a ghast cry.

It has been like this for the past hundred years, maybe more, she didn't know. Days blurred together since her imprisonment here by 'Mister Forgiveness' himself. She waited, keeping her section in line for the return that was promised. Her mentor would return, he said he would. If there was one thing she knew about Herobrine was that he always kept to his word.

Her eyes gazed up at the bedrock ceiling, since the division of the nether, humans casually walked in through their portals for simple things. Whether it be for potion ingredients or just to dick around, they always managed to take out the army they had built up. She wouldn't be surprised to find some of the more unruly areas would been an lesson when their lord rose again.

In her sector, people respected her, and listened to her. Should one fight back, they were taught not to again. Ember prided herself in her strength, and she wasn't above using fear to get her sector to listen.

Her eyes narrowed a bit, power thumped through the nether, and smirk played on her lips showing sharp teeth. The gates were open, and her lord wanted to see her and the other general now.

Pale, ivory fingers carefully ran over the runes of the book. A dark smile played on the pale, pink lips of the sorcerer. In the low lighting of the nether castle, a black dressed man worked diligently on his final projected. Short covered in all sorts of potions that had decided to explode rather than mix. His poppy red eyes gazed at his other hand that moved like a fish in the water and picked up a vile as he mixed together the two potions. His lord wasn't one to wait, but for this time he'd make the exception. Nothing less than perfect for his army and most loyal.

Michael prided himself in that title, he worked hard to earn the one with the most loyalty. Having helped his lord since their imprisonment by using what he had growing to bring poor Noah to his knees. He was an asset that Hero refuse to let go that easy, so he was well taken care of. A king is only as powerful as those under him, and as court sorcerer he planned to prove just that.

Humming to himself he placed the vile down and carefully skimmed over the pages. If this was to work as his lord hoped, he'd need to gain more than the rare ingredients that he grew here. A frown flashed for a moment, foolish humans never knew a good thing until they had destroyed it to extinction.

"It." he commanded as he turned to the shadows gazing a thing that had the body of a female little shirt but the face and hair of a man. Sunken eyes gazed at him.

"How can It serve master?" It asked looking at Michael, sharp teeth turned up into a sinister smile hoping It's master wanted It for a fun reason.

Michael looked at It, "Go to the over world, bring me a mortal, any shall do. I wanted the mortal alive..." a smirk played, "but you can have play time so long as the mortal is alive with organs attached." he told It.

It's eyes lit up and the smile grew impossible wide, "It is happy to serve, It thanks you, master." with that the shadow creature puppet vanished back into the shadows.

Michael chuckled, his three shadow puppets did love their play time, and he was happy to give it to his loyal puppets.

Turning back to his work, he carefully placed the potion on stasis until It returned. With another smirk he turned to the library, soon he shall see how much faith was put into the Sky Army's sorcerer.

Alex would not call himself gullible by any means, he didn't become Captain for nothing. His reason and easy rise to power was that he wasn't a brainwashed idiot that followed commands like their higher ups were Gods. Sure, years of boot licking paid off for him, but now at the position he wanted he was done with those trainee years.

Walking down the castle walls with the orders in his hand, his blue and brown eyes narrowed in determination. He was ready to prove to his lord he wasn't going to lose like the last fool. He and trained and readied himself for his moment, they would take the overworld from the high and mighty Notch.

He gripped the scroll tighter, his recruits must be ready, he had trained them since imprisonment to be ready for the next war. While many gave lip, they became the example. Nothing would stop them.

His eyes glowed with power as he gritted his teeth, he'd make sure of that.
