Chapter 3: Worry
I've been sick for the past few days, so let me ask you all is this story going at a good pace for you all?

A job of a sorcerer was never said to be easy, not even job descriptions for sorcerers said it was going to be easy. Seto, knew all this too well. Being apart of a dying breed in the world, that being sorcerers and magic in general was slowly dying out, he knew whatever he took up wouldn't be as quick as he hoped. That being said, working for Adam was an understatement to things not being 'easy'.
Seto swore that it seemed the recruits were doing something insanely stupid that resulted in them being in the hospital or his potions room. Just yesterday some idiot thought that juggling swords was a great idea, and thus losing all four of his fingers and a thumb! Honestly in all this week that was the most normal thing he saw. Just a four days ago he had to patch up a recruit who was using a chainsaw on a dummy and another who had a thing for cut everything living or not.
'I swear these recruits of Adam's are just plain insane...' he thought rubbing his temples as he wrote down in his book the injuries so far and what he used. Seto liked to keep a log of everything he used so he's know when he was running out and what was needed. He quickly learned working for someone like Adam this was needed as much as health potions were needed.
So, needless to say he was worried when Adam said they were taking a few recruits out to check on the harbor for squids. If Seto had it his way they'd be going padded to the point they had to waddle to get there. He hated having to use of resources for another mans stupidity. But, such was the thing of working in the Gold Kingdom he could see why the last guy ran out screaming.
Reluctantly he gave them a few potions making note of it in his book. He hoped they won't do anything stupid or insanely unnecessary. But, he couldn't shake this bad feeling he got deep within his core.
Lately it felt as though things just weren't right within the world. Seto work up twice in the middle of the night hearing sickening cracking sounds in his dream. This darkness was seeping into his dreams, and he didn't know where it was coming from. In the years he's been around, he's never felt true terror like this. Most of his reluctantly to let Adam go wasn't just because of insane recruits. He honestly felt like something dark was coming, something evil.
Seto shook his head, 'That couldn't be,' he thought to himself, 'everything is at peace, what could possible be that evil, much less what could it want with Adam?' he tried to comfort himself with this thought.
But... He just couldn't shake the feeling something awful was coming this way.

Adam gripped the reins tightly as he lead his horse down the cobble and grass path. His eyes cast down in thought as he listened to the sounds of hooves on the path and the chatter of ten recruits behind him.
Ty was also unusually silent, mostly he knew this was going to be an open and shut case. The sooner they got it done the sooner they could get back home. Not that Ty had anything against all this, but he knew Adam was stressed as it was. People expected a lot of him, and while they had gotten to point B, they now had to keep this weak alliance from crumbling away to dust. He just figured Adam needed some quiet time.
Too say things were going smoothly would be a lie. It seemed lately unexplained outbursts of violence were happening. While any sane person would just brush it off as some drunk idiots having one too many, Ty noticed that it was everyday people just suddenly going batshit crazy.
Jason had talked with him about this from what he's noticed in his walks around the kingdom. Being well known and the sweet one the older people of town loved to talk to, Jason had a knack for finding out gossip that may or may not be useful later. And from what he told Ty, these have been more then just what they've found.
But, the ones they've heard of have been the more violent ones. Jason claimed that some of the nicest people he's known now give him glares of hate or even growl at him. Ty frowned in thought, he hadn't bother to tell Adam as it wasn't something to concern the king in. He was the General in charge of the city and until it got too much for him to take count for, then he'd get Adam involved. For now, the logical explanation was just the idea of something being in the water. The squids often did little things like put something in their food or water. While it never killed, as they were experimental potions, they did cause hallucinations.
He's ask Seto later to test the water of food to see if this was the case again. He didn't want to worry anyone, and seeing as the cases were still moderate there was no need to cause mass panic.
As they neared the village near the harbor Ty cast a glance over at Adam who was still silent. He wanted to ask his friend at times if he was okay, but Adam always refused to give a forward answer that or he'd flat out lie to Ty. He let Adam have his silence, but he couldn't shake the feeling of worry as they entered the small village.
The boats weren't in port, wouldn't be for another two days or so if the weather was right. People were quietly chatting and trading at the small market near the docks. Some simple warmly at them as they went about their way. Adam dis mounted as did Ty handing off the horses to the stable master near the entrance.
"So I'd think looking along the east, west, and north shore lines would be a good start." Adam suggested with a smile, "Pair off into two or threes and check the lines, whoever is left talk with the folks to see if they have spotted anything."
There were mummers of agreement and nods as the recruits left to do so. Adam smiled at Ty, "I guess we can go check for clues." he suggested.
Ty nodded slowly, then again perhaps it was just him worrying over nothing. The place seemed quiet and peaceful, nothing bad could happen right?
