judgement day |.14
The day has came. It was the day of Hal's judgement in front of the Guardians. When Hal first told Remy he was not going to Oa, and he would only remember The Green Lantern Corps as a long distant memory, he was dead set on it too.
It took around a week to convince Hal to stand in front of the Guardians, but that did not come cheap. She had to bargain her way into just making Hal stand in front of the Guardians, but Hal - being himself - make her want to kick him whilst he was in the green handcuffs.
The Guardians had to take precautions, but Scar was skeptical, just as Remy was. Her mouth was pressed into a thin line, her arms crossed but she said nothing. Hal turned his head to the side, his eyes meeting Remy's and his infamous smirk finding its way onto Hal's face.
Kilowog raised a brow - as much as his face would allow - whilst he watched Remy stress over this. Kilowog and Hal were friends, but if he sympathized with the enemy, he would be going against his elder's orders to kill the man that sat before them.
"Hal Jordan." Sayd spoke, authority filled his tone. His voice grabbed the attention of every Green Lantern in the massive room. Remy and Kilowog's head shot up to the circle that flowed above them all.
The dark haired man that kneeled in front of the small blue men, his body tense. Remy knew it killed Hal to kneel to anybody, showing any weakness to anybody, but this wasn't anybody - these were the Guardians. His head bowed, Hal exhaled silently as Scar spoke.
"We are here today to judge Hal Jordan, if he is a traitor or a Green Lantern." Scar continued with his monologuing, the air tense. Kilowog didn't say anything to Remy, but he knew that she was worried for Hal. Furrowing her brow, Remy watched Hal slowly stand up from his seated position on the floor to look all the Guardians in the eyes.
Scar gave Hal a curt nod, seemingly smirking as he did so, but that was only one of the Guardians. Only one was for sure in favor of Hal's innocence, but one was better than none. Even if Hal was one of the best - if not the best - Green Lantern they have seen, they couldn't deny the feats of Hal's time in the Green Lanterns.
But it was now all up to the Guardians. If they wanted Hal to live, he will live. If the Guardians wanted Hal to be in their prisons, he will be in their prisons. It was a toss up, there wasn't a favored side to this.
"Before we begin the judgement, do you have anything to say for yourself?" Ganthet asked with a stone hard expression on his face. Hal's gaze dropped from the Guardians to the green chains that restrained his wrists and ankles. He swallowed before shaking his head.
Remy was about to speak out in protest, but she remembered her position. She had no authority over what happened or will happen. She clenched her fist at Hal's stupidity, how couldn't he defend himself! In the eyes of his peers, he had committed treason and he stood before them without any sort of defense.
"Then we will proceed." Ganthet spoke with a lack of emotion. He didn't care. None of them did. Remy crossed her arm tightly as Kilowog nudged her side. He gave her a nasty look before growling lowly. Huffing, Remy bit her lip to restrain herself from snapping at the Green Lantern.
"Hal Jordan, you have broken your oath for the second time."
"I did it to find out what they were doing." Hal replied in the calmest tones Remy had ever heard him use before. A few Guardians sent him a glare. The looks of disgust that was plastered on their faces only made the feeling in Remy's stomach to drop.
"You took the oath of the Yellow Lanterns. Is this true?" They asked Hal. He nodded curtly, not giving them any verbal confirmation although his confidence didn't waver a bit. He stared down the Guardians like his life depended on it because it did.
Amused looks passed through the Guardians face's as Sayd grinned. Kilowog had to told stories of Hal faced the Guardians head on when Sinestro was still good and Hal was still a rookie. They took his ring and he didn't stop being Hal.
But one of the Guardians took interest in the first human Green Lantern, and Remy guessed it was Sayd. He seemed to have a liking in Hal's attitude.
"Did you take this oath to help or hurt the Green Lantern Corps?" Appa Ali Apsa asked with a tone that made Remy think she was being the one interrogated and not Hal.
"Help." Hal replied as if it was the simplest thing in the world.
Ganthet scoffed loudly, his brows furrowed as he crossed his arms. "That is nonsense!"
Hal's jaw ticked in anger, his eyes moving to Ganthet ever so slightly. Hal took a step forward as put his hands up, an index finger up. "Actually, no, I do have something to say."
The Guardian Ganthet had a look of displeasure but remained silent. All the Guardians turned to Hal, everybody's attention on Hal. The dark haired man clenched his hand as he started to pace.
"I did some things that, yeah, makes me an ass and makes me public enemy number one in your eyes, but I did it for you, I did it for the Corps. And most of all, I did it to save all the Green Lanterns in the grasp of Sinestro. And now here they are, sitting before you." Hal gestured to the Green Lanterns that were sitting and watching the judgement - Remy included.
Small whispers were heard within the group as Hal turned back to the Guardians.
"But, who am I to say if what I did was even worth enough to be called selfless." Hal finished in a quieter tone, shrugging as he did so. The green shackles that locked Hal suddenly dissolved, his wrists and ankles now free.
He raised a brow as he rubbed his wrists, looking back at the Guardians for an answer. Sayd nodded in acknowledgement, Scar smiling as he flowed down from beside his peers. His right hand was clenched as he flowed next to Hal.
"Green Lantern of Sector 2814, welcome home."
__________
"Cheers!" The three spoke simultaneously, the sound of glass hitting each other filled everybody's ears. John grabbed Hal's shoulders and downed the drink in his hand. Once everybody stopped to take a breath, Hal chuckled as Remy wiped the roam that was on her mouth.
The bar was lively on this Friday night, dates and parties did arrive around eight and their group crashed the bar at around 9.
"Another round, if you will." John ordered, taking his seat beside John. The man grinned as he slapped Hal's back, all three Green Lanterns celebrating. Hal didn't believe he would actually get his ring back, or the Guardians actually letting him come back.
Hearing the bell on the door ring, Remy turned around to see who is entering, she was expecting to see her siblings and her friends coming too. And that is exactly who came in.
"Enter the party crashers!" Ricky yelled as he put her hands up in the air. Ashton grinned widely as Remy mimicked Ricky's actions and stood up from her stool. The two women hugged as she wrapped her arms around her shoulders as Ashton followed. Chloe nudged Remy's side as she hugged her as well.
"Hey guys!" Ricky waved at the two men sitting at the counter as they greeted her too. Ashton took Remy's seat as Ricky and Remy moved away from the group.
"So?" Ricky pressed on. After she found out about Remy's secret identity, she had been helping cover for her in exchange for the drama up in space, which was not a bad offer.
Remy grinned widely, shrugging slightly before speaking. "So, H-a green lantern got judged in front of the Guardians and it was crazy! So, he was a Green Lantern, then to help the Green Lanterns, he become a yellow lantern, and then he is a green lantern again!"
"No way! How can you even do that?" Ricky asked, very interested. Remy heard the familiar sound of the door opening but paid no mind to it. That is until the person behind the door yelled a very familiar name.
"Hal Jordan!" The dark haired woman yelled as she ran over to Hal, engulfing him into a hug and giving him a kiss on the cheek. That definitely grabbed Remy's attention, as well as Ricky's.
Ricky's eyes widened, turning back to her sister. Her face contorted into one of anger as her eyebrows furrowed. Clenching her jaw, Remy stood up quickly, her eyes never leaving the two holding each other for a bit more than Remy would like.
Her sister saw this, quickly grabbed her arm and dragged her to the bathroom as quickly as she could. Seeing the look on her best friend's face, Chloe shot up also after seeing her boss and her ex-lover.
"Who in the hell-"
"Remy!" Chloe silenced Remy, closing the bathroom door behind her. Remy glared daggers into her best friend's skull until she exhaled loudly.
"Who was that?" Remy asked in a slightly less angry tone. She still had that look in her eyes that scared Ricky and Chloe. The red haired woman rubbed her temples, her eyes closed.
Ricky leaned against the door, making sure nobody else was going to enter on them - especially the woman hugging and kissing Hal. Remy licked her lips as she put her hands on her hips. The dark lighted room barely illuminated the room, making it slightly difficult to see the emotion Chloe was expressing.
"That... was my boss, Carol Ferris."
Connecting the dots, Remy's brows shot up. If that was Chloe's boss, that also made her Hal's boss as well. Mumbling curses under her breath, running a hand through her hair that was put into a ponytail behind her.
Ricky bit her lip, her gaze falling to the ground as she crossed her arms. Chloe her watched Remy's reaction, scared of her reaction.
After a moment of just trying to calm her breathing, Remy faced her friend's behind her. She shot them a questioning look before she covered her actual emotions with a smirk.
"Are we going to hide in the bathroom like we are ugly girls at prom or are we going to go outside and get drunk?" Remy asked, going to the door with a grin on her face. Even if Remy hid her emotions, Chloe would see the fire that she couldn't hide in her eyes. That fire wouldn't be ignited by anything, or one.
The three girls exited the quite small bathroom, different emotions expressed on all their faces as John and Hal had their eyes on all three of them, but when Remy and Hal's eyes met, she was the one to turn away.
"Remy, round of shots?" John asked, pointing to the line already waiting for them. Beaming, Remy nodded vigorously. She took the seat beside John and away from Hal and Carol. Hal took note of this, a frown finding his features. Remy almost felt bad, but she didn't.
Grabbing one of the shot glasses, she downed the drink quickly, the liquid burning her throat as she she threw her head back. Chloe and Ricky followed quickly, chuckles escaping their lips once the burning liquid entered their body.
Signaling to the bartender to bring another round, probably not for the best, but Remy didn't care. Slowly, the round of shots become five more round of shots and then the bartender signaled told the group that it was the end.
Stories were passed around the table, Hal telling stories of his flying fighter jets, which led to a competition between him and Chloe and then eventually Carol joined in the conversation, then that's when drunk Remy left the conversation. It wasn't the fact she was just talking, it was the fact she was talking about the times her and Hal were together - in every tale.
The night came to an end once Remy couldn't be passive aggressive anymore, her snide comments turning to something much harsher and she couldn't control herself. She stormed out with her sister and Chloe, leaving the bar at around 1.
The three went on to Remy's apartment, and crashed on the couch. Remy was already starting to regret the last round of shots, but she could feel sleep consuming her body as well as a pounding headache starting to form. With a sign, Remy dragged her feet and walked to her room and landed on her bed quickly after.
