Ch 19: A Strong Goodbye
"Were you ever going to tell me?" Elliotes asked Monica.
He flew her up on top of the roof so they could look at the night sky together. Monica was guarded as she hugged her knees towards her chest. It's not that she didn't want to tell him what she saw, she just had no idea how to put that into words.
"What was I going to say? I didn't know what I saw."
Elliotes nodded. "I wanted to thank you, for taking me in, and treating me like I was one of your own."
"Are you mom zoning me? That hurts so bad." Monica teased.
"No just, " Elliotes laughed. "I'm just grateful. If there is anything I can do for you please don't hesitate to ask."
"There are a few things."
One thing about Monica that you need to know is that she will do anything for her child. She requested that Elliotes reverse the damage done to the school. She requested that Morpheus make it very clear to Willard that if he came anywhere near her or her daughter again that Morpheus will bring his greatest nightmares to life. She requested that Overia place a positive image over the horrors of the dance night in everyone's minds.
Elliotes took in the list, he noticed that Monica did not ask for anything for herself.
She showed no emotion as she looked at the night sky. He could tell that she was hiding her true feelings.
She did have one final request for Elliotes before he left. She wanted him to say goodbye to Teri's kindergarten class. They have grown to like him and she believes that they deserve a proper goodbye.
And he believed that too.
The following day Monica waited outside the kindergarten classroom with Overia and Morpheus as Elli said his final goodbye inside.
"Are you really not going to tell him how you feel?" Overia asked Monica.
"I have no reason to. It's easier if he doesn't know." Monica said.
"No one is going to mess with you. Plus you can always reach us through the shrine." Morpheus explained.
"It has been moved to my room. I will keep it safe." Monica said.
"No more nightmares for Teri, without her mother's consent," Morpheus said as he gave Monica a hug.
Overia also gave Monica a hug as soon as Morpheus let her go. "Thank you for taking care of El."
"Free your dad. Have a civilized talk. And remember if Chronus can die, so can you." Monica lectured them like the mother she was.
Inside the classroom, there was a full class of toddlers crying. How dare their best friend leave them forever. They had so much fun at recess, and the dance. Elli even made the bad dreams go to sleep.
The only one who was not crying was Teri. She stood there next to Elliotes holding his hand as he tried to say goodbye.
It was fun having someone who would do anything and everything she asked for. Someone who would run to her rescue when she was scared. Someone who would run to mommy's rescue.
She promised herself that she wouldn't cry. No matter how hard things got for mommy, mommy never cried.
Elliotes needed to leave so he could save both of his mommies. Teri knew that and she knew she had to be strong enough to say goodbye. She was going to be strong even with the tears streaming down her face.
"It has been an honor meeting all of you. I promise to see you all again. Until then listen to Ms. Courtney, she only wants the best for you and honor your mother and father. They will not be perfect, but from what I have seen since being here. Your parents are your maids, your cooks, your best friends, and your worst enemy. They are your teacher, they are the law and overall they are the keepers to all the love you will ever need. At least the parents that I met here on Earth." Elliotes concluded his speech.
His speech only made the class cry more and requested to go home. Unintentionally he made Ms. Courtney's job harder.
Elliotes attended one last playtime circle to calm the children down before exiting the classroom. An epic game of red light green light where he changed the colors of his wings to signal the children when to run.
Morpheus immediately began to tease Elliotes causing the boys to shove each other.
"Are you ready Monica?" Overia asked as the boys started to rough house with one another.
Monica nodded. She asked them not to use Teri as a telephone with one another and decided that it would be for the best if they used her to enter the Land of Dreams. Her job was simple: go home and fall asleep.
She took a sleeping pill and lay in bed.
"It's simple. Just think of the happiest place on Earth. Then picture me destroying it." Morpheus cheered.
"Get out of my room." Monica ordered.
Overia dragged Morpheus out of the room. Elliotes took that opportunity to lay next to Monica. She cuddled in his arms one last time.
"Are you sure there isn't anything I can do for you?" Elliotes asked.
"Is there any way that I can know that you are safe?"
"As long as the shrine stands, I am okay. And as long as that shrine is here your home will be safe."
"And Teri? She really loves you."
"And I love her." Elliotes whispered. "Just as much as I loved you."
Monica leaned over and gently kissed Elliotes on his cheek. "If you want more, come home."
"I'll be home by dinner."
Elliotes smiled as Monica drifted off to sleep. He gently stood up and returned to where his siblings were.
Morpheus looked uneasy at the news that Monica was asleep. He unknowingly messed up a lot, and there was a possible war in the making. The purpose of the war was to eliminate any traces of Cronus. Meaning Elliotes.
It turns out Willard was right. Elliotes was a gift from Father Time. A gift brought to life, by the love of a jelly bean.
"Let's get this over with." Elliotes ordered. "I was promised dessert after dinner."
