Ch 17: Brothers Fight
"You're not afraid to raise a baby that isn't yours?"
"Why should I be?"
"They won't be like you. They may not even look like you. They for sure won't act like you. And deep down inside you both will know that you do not belong together."
The questions that every parent is asked before they are allowed to adopt a child. They warn you how life-changing such a small action can be. They warn of the mental and physical toll that comes with it. They prepare you for the tears, they warn you of the self-doubt.
There is no turning back once you say yes.
"Do you promise that you will raise this baby like your own, Hypnos?"
"I promise. I will raise him like my own, Pasithea."
"He sort of looks like you."
"That's good. I don't want the other Gods to question me."
"What shall we call him?"
"Elliotes, the God of Empty Dreams. Since he may not be able to do anything with them."
A forgotten conversation that happened the first time Elliotes took a breath. A conversation that holds so much power. That Elliotes did not remember, but Monica got to witness it.
A secret affair. Hidden within the Gods. A request asked from one mother to another. My baby is in danger. Please protect my son.
Monica had a secret of her own. The night she shared her memories with Elliotes, she was able to see his memories as well. She knew the truth about his name and even the truth about his identity. He was raised to believe that he was the son of Pasithea and Hypons when in reality he was the son of Cronus and Elpis the Goddess of Hope.
Monica wasn't able to get the full backstory of Elpis, all she knew was that she freed the Daimonas from the captivity that Zeus trapped them into.
Though he was raised in the Land of Dreams, his true power can not be unleashed until he enters the Time Realm.
The mistreatment he received, the sudden banishment. It was from a father who did not respect his son. Elliotes protection came with his adopted mother Pasithea. That protection left when Pasithea stopped returning home.
Monica knew the truth however she didn't know how to tell Elliotes. She didn't even know if he knew. The fighting amongst the boys is only happening because their mother isn't around.
Monica ran between the two Gods as they were about to strike one another. Both boys stopped in their tracks as a force field appeared on Monica.
"I got you girl." Monica overheard Overia's voice within her head.
Morpheus landed and tapped on the force field with his blade. Amusement appeared on his face when he discovered that he wasn't able to break it.
"What's going on? Who is this mortal?" Morpheus question.
"This is Monica. Elliotes girlfriend." Overia's voice came through the force field.
Morpheus looked Monica up and down slowly. "Seven."
"Are you really rating me right now?" Monica yelled at Morpheus.
"Out of one hundred." Morpheus added salt to injury. "Overia, where are you at?"
"Home? Why are you picking on Elliotes?"
"Well the first time I saw him in years, he enters one of my nightmares and wrecks it." Morpheus said. "Those are hard to plan out, you know."
"You decided to pick on my kid."
"How was I supposed to know that was your kid?"
Just like how Elliotes argued with Overia, he was now in an argument with Morpheus. It was like these two were not just physically trying to kill each other. After about five minutes of senseless back-and-forth yelling Monica finally interrupted.
First, she ordered Elliotes to lower all of the children floating in the air and unfreeze everyone still left in the cafeteria. Then she convinced Morpheus to enter the dreams of everyone involved to make this whole event seem like a bad dream.
She sat down stressed out as she watched the brothers talk with one another. There were 2,000 years to catch up on.
Teri on the other hand quickly forgave Morpheus of his actions and sat on his lap, as she held Elsa. Morpheus laughed at where the shrine was placed, and that clearly hurt Elliotes feelings. Gods are so immature.
"So, why did you lock up dad?" Elliotes asked.
"Bro, after you left dad lost his mind. He started stealing the spiritual energy from Overia and I." Morphus explained. "I had to lock him up for his own good. Then people started to pray and I let the power go to my head. I did some things I am not proud of."
"Can you undo them?"
"Not really sure how?" Morpheus admitted.
"Can you just ask dad to fix it?"
"If I undo those chains from dad he is going to kill me."
"I thought you guys were immortal." Monica added.
"We are, but he will find a way to kill us."
"Don't say us." Elliotes chimed in.
"Can't your mommy fix it? My mommy fixes everything." Teri sang.
Morpheus looked down with sadness in his eyes. It was obvious what he was going to say next. Even after 2,000 years, their mother has not returned home.
Their mother is gone, and their father is in chains. It is no wonder that these Gods and Goddesses are acting this way. They are unsupervised.
Teri was able to read the room and carried Elsa over to her mom. "Did their mommy leave them?" Teri asked, trying not to cry.
"Don't worry Jellybean. They are going to be okay." Monica said as she kissed Teri on the head.
Jellybeans.
Teri reached her tiny hands into her mother's purse. She pulled out a tiny pack of jelly beans that had about six in there. She gave one to her mom, one to Elliotes, and one to Morpheus. She then ate the remaining three.
"What's this?" Morpheus questioned.
"The highest of offerings." Elliotes laughed as he ate it. Morpheus followed suit and ate his.
"What is your wish, tiny human?" Morpheus asked.
"For you to find your mommy."
Morpheus and Elliotes gave her a weak smile. Monica leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. That is a loaded request.
"Monica knows where their mother is?" The group looked down to see that Elsa, the hamster, was talking.
A sharp scream left Monica's mouth. One, she didn't think she knew where their mother was, and two, when did Elsa start talking?
