Chapter 23: Thunder and Lightning

As they approached the city, teepees and wikiups could be seen on the outskirts. As they approached, stone buildings and homes could be seen. Many had their windows closed. Soon James parked the vehicle and the team stepped out. The horsemen dismounted and motioned for them to follow. Storm clouds were now hanging high above them. The men lead them to a large fire.

"Where are the two God Hunters?" one of the men asked.

"They went out scouting and hitting the enemy where they can. They should be back soon," said an elderly woman.

"Is there a priestess here?" asked Illya.

"Yes. I am," the elderly woman replied, "Why do you ask?"

"I need to see Lozen. I have come for one of the weapons of Tomoe Gozen."

The rumbling of thunder could be heard. Suddenly, some riders came rushing in.

"Everyone! Please go inside! Servants are coming!" said the rider.

"Where are the God Hunters?" asked the elderly woman.

"I don't know. We were with them when we lost sight of them."

The woman then turned to Illya and her team.

"If you help us, I will take you to Lozen," she said.

Illya nodded.

She was then taken inside a nearby building. Soon, the warriors readied their rifles, some had bows as well. Illya drew her katana. The rest of the team readied their weapons. Soon, the rain began pouring down. After a few moments, a large group of Servants came rushing in from the clouds. The warriors fired their weapons. Anastasia and Kydaana cast mana spells upon them. Tracker fired his rifle, taking a few down. James used the stone to kick up a rock boulder. Illya quickly summoned the yumi and fired the bow, taking enemies down with it. Eventually, the Servants landed and a hand-to-hand battle commenced. Illya slashed and stabbed any enemies that approached her. James fought with his fists and legs, breaking their weapons and armor. Tracker drew his hammer, smashing any Servants to bits with it. Kydaana used her spear to stab foes. Any that were closer, she drew her blade for. Anastasia kept up the pressure with her mana, hitting from range still. The warriors of Apache used clubs, spears, and knives to fight off foes that were close. Despite the losing the mortals were inflicting, the Servants numbers were beginning to overwhelm.

"There are too many!" Illya yelled.

"Don't give in! Besides. Fighting Fu Hao and Saytarus was worse than this," James replied.

Illya thought back to those battles and she smirked.

"Yeah. They were worse."

She kept up the fight, alternating between her different weapons in taking down foes. Despite the losses the Servants were taking, they were still coming in force. Suddenly, there was a massive bolt of lighting in the middle of the Servants lines. Servants and mortals alike all looked at the sight. Crouched down on one knee with a scythe was figure dressed in black. Illya gasped upon seeing it. She thought back to when Jahlan had first brought her to the God Hunters. The figure lifted his head and it was that of a raven. Three Servants charged him and with one swipe of his scythe they were cut in half. One approached from behind and the avian like man swiftly stabbed the Servant through his armor and cut upwards. Soon, numerous Servants rushed him, attempting to swarm him. The birdman lifted one leg, held the scythe behind him, and closed his eyes with two fingers held in front of his beak. Faster than the eye could blink, he then cut through all of the enemies with a bolt of lightning following just behind. More Servants then surrounded him. He jumped into the air, raising his scythe high. The weapon then turned into lightning and his slammed it into the ground, electrocuting any foes around him.

A Servant then appeared behind him, ready to stab the man when the feathered-haired woman appeared suddenly and stabbed the Servant in the neck with a knife. She drew her tomahawk. Servants approached her. She closed her eyes and held the knife in front of her face. She then swung it, creating a visible wind from it that extended longer than any blade, cutting the Servants in half. She threw her tomahawk, hitting a Servant directly in the face. She swiftly rushed in and grabbed it. As more approached, she swung her weapons as fast as wind, cutting the enemy to pieces. She then struck her tomahawk on the ground, creating a massive gut of wind that cut clean through any other Servants. The Servants began to panic and they flew into the storm clouds above. Shortly after, the sky cleared. The two individuals then approached the town center. The team all sheathed their weapons.

"That was an incredible display," said Tracker.

"Indeed. Quite the show," said Anastasia.

"I remember you two," began Illya "You were there when grandpa first brought me to base."

The raven headed man looked at her.

"Ka kaw!" he cried.

Illya and the team were all taken aback.

He then cleared his throat.

"Sorry. Force of habit," he said.

The woman next to him simply rolled her eyes.

"I'm surprised you remembered us," he continued.

"Yes. My name is Illya-."

"Yes. We know who you are," the woman said.

"That was kind of rude Crow," said the birdman.

"I don't want to hear that from you Roven. Instead of saying hi you go ka kaw," said Crow.

"What? It's what I always do."

"Either way it's a pleasure to formally meet you," Illya gave a curtsy "How do you know my name?"

"You're the boss's granddaughter. How could we not? Although I don't remember you having these," Roven said pointing to her horns.

"Yeah. They came back out in a battle. No reason to hide them now."

Yeah. There is no reason. Glad we could properly meet. So, who is everyone else here?" asked Roven.

The team stepped forward and introduced themselves as well as Crow and Roven.

"Longtime no see," said James.

"A pleasure as always James," Roven said.

"What brings you two on assignment all the way out here?" James asked.

"The people here came to us. They told of freak storms and Servants attacking from the sky. Jahlan dispatched us quickly," said Crow.

"What is causing the storms?" Illya asked.

"A Servant. More specifically one of our father's. A Rain Maker," said Roven.

"Yes. What reason they have to be here we know not. However, whatever the reason, we will do whatever it takes to protect our home. Even if it is from our father," said Crow.

"And with this Servant, we're gonna teach him not to mess with the twins of Great Thunderbird," Roven said cracking his knuckles "Anyway, what brings you here?"

"I wish to speak with Lozen. I must collect the next weapon of Tomoe Gozen," said Illya.

"I see. Follow us. There is much to discuss," said Crow.

The group of seven then went into a nearby cave, illuminated with fire, the walls were covered in numerous paintings. The priestess and several warriors were there.

"Sorry we arrived so late," said Roven.

"We lost many today. I hope the reason is good," said a warrior.

"Yes, it is," Crow began "We spotted where the Rain Maker is hiding. He's on a mesa overlooking the city. We saw the storm he was casting and sent our group back to help here. Roven and I were about to get him when suddenly we were ambushed by a large group of Servants ourselves, larger than the force that attacked here. We had an opening to slip back to the city and we did. We need to strike again soon before he decides to change location."

"We'll need an army," said Roven "But luckily we got five new bodies to help us out."

The team then stepped in.

"You girl," the priestess began "You wish to speak with Lozen correct?"

Illya nodded.

"If you help these to and eliminate the Rain Maker, I will take you to Lozen," said the priestess.

"We will. This Servant will be taken down in no time," Illya said.

"We will depart at dawn tomorrow. Until then, everyone rest up," said Crow.
