Chapter 20: Taken
Shortly after the time in Tsarina, they departed for the city of Rus. They arrived only after a few days. When they did arrive, night had just settled. The city was located on a peninsula, surrounded by foggy woodland. In the center of the city was a high walled stone castle. The cone shaped rooves of the towers were covered in red tiles. Illya looked up at the formidable structure. The team gathered around the holomap.
"This is Olga's shrine. After this, there will only be two more to visit. Then, we will have to make the long trek back to Awazu," said Illya "Things have been smooth lately. This time Anastasia and I will go on our own. If there is a problem, we will let you know."
"Understood. Good luck you two," said Tracker.
The sisters then departed for the city. Soon they arrived and entered through the castle gates. They entered a chapel off to the side. There were lit candles though the building was empty. At the end of the chapel stood the shrine of Olga. She looked to be wearing a crown and hood with robes and a cloak. In her hands was a cross.
"Strange," said Anastasia "There should be a priestess here."
"Maybe they are just not here at the moment," Illya replied.
"Something feels off. Let us obtain the artifact and go."
Illya nodded and touched the shrine. She closed her eyes and found herself transported to a castle court. She stood in the center of a red carpet. At the end of it were three steps that lead up to a red throne. The windows on both sides were stained glass with bright vibrant colors. The stained-glass patterns depicted scenes of the Warrior Goddesses and their battles. One shows Humans and Elves cowering behind them. Another showed Tomoe Gozen with her sword, as if leading the charge. Suddenly, a door off to the side opened and a woman walked out. She looked just the same as the shrine. Some of her brown hair could be seen from under the hood. Her robes were golden and the small cloak she wore was black. There were patterns of crosses and flowers on the golden and white part of her robe. The cross she carried in her hand was golden. She then sat in her throne. Illya gave a bowed on one knee.
"Please rise my niece," Olga said.
Illya then slowly stood.
"Come closer my dear."
Illya approached slowly.
"You do not have to be afraid my dear. I will not bring harm to you."
"I apologize. Catherine said that you were a Goddess of deception."
Olga began to chuckle.
"I, Olga, only gained that through deceiving the Gods. They believed me to be on their side when in reality I had been plotting to take them down from the inside. I only used trickery for them. Catherine have never truly seen eye to eye."
"I understand now. I assume you know why I am here?"
"Of course, my dear. I will grant you the tanto of Tomoe Gozen," said Olga taking one hand off her cross and opening her palm.
As Illya conversed with Olga, Anastasia sat in one of the pews waiting for her sister. She felt something behind her. She turned around and blasted a wolf in the face with an orb of mana. Her flew out the door of the chapel. She then rushed out, mana in hand when she saw the castle was full of the wolf Servants. She gritted her teeth. Two wolves leapt at her and blasted them both through the chest with mana. The blue had turned to ed. One wolf had run past to the chapel. Anastasia cast another spell, killing the wolf.
"What makes you think I will let any of you monsters past me without a fight!"
A wolf charges Anastasia. She does a spin sidestep and casts a fire spell, igniting the beast. She continues battling the beasts. Despite how any she kills, more appear and some slip past her. She turns her head and see two have reached Illya.
"No! Do not toucher her!"
Before Anastasia could attack them, two blocked her off. The two inside the chapel gently took Illya from the shrine. Anastasia caught a glimpse of her sister's side, seeing a small weapon. It looked like a knife version of her katana. The wolves then swiftly left the chapel and began leaping onto the high walls. Anastasia cast a spell at them, just missing.
"Illya!" she called.
The wolves now began to leave. One though took advantage of Anastasia's distraction and slashed her arm, leaving a bloody wound. Others then attacked as they moved by, leaving bloody cuts on her back and legs. She clutched her arm tightly as the wolves left as swiftly as they came.
"Damn it. Damn it!"
At the vehicle James and Tracker stepped outside. The moment he touched the ground, he felt something.
"Something is wrong," he said.
"Yes. Something is...off," Tracker then sniffed the air "It smells of wolf."
"Do you think..." began James.
"Yes. They followed us."
"I will go into the city. You and Kydaana stay here," said James as he then ran as fast as he could.
Anastasia walked out of the castle, holding her arm tightly with a bloody trail following behind.
"Damn it," she thought and then tears began to appear "I have lost my family."
She looked up and saw James rushing toward her. She felt weak and her vision began to blacken. Anastasia then fell to her knees and James caught her.
"Anastasia!" he called.
She blinked a few times before closing her eyes. James then ran back to the vehicle twice as fast. He brought back swiftly. Kydaana treated Anastasia's wounds they lay her on her bed. She lay on the bed bandaged.
After a few hours, Anastasia's eyes began to flutter. She looked around the room.
"Not again," she whispered.
She then looked to her side, expecting to see her father. Instead, it was Kydaana.
"Oh, thank the Nine Goddesses you're awake!" she said "James! Tracker!"
Soon the two men entered the room.
"Anastasia. What happened?" James asked.
"We...were ambushed by the wolf Servants. Illya was still communing with Olga when they attacked," she said.
"Damn Servants. If they have Illya, we're screwed," said James "They've probably already taken her to the Divine Realm!"
Anastasia began to cry again.
"Everyone is gone.... I will never see them again," she wept.
"Don't be so down," said Tracker.
Everyone looked at him.
"These wolf Servants aren't like the others. I've seen those armored one's phase in and out of our reality. However, the wolf Servants do not have such luxury. They have to conduct a ritual to open a temporary portal to the realm of Xuhyir. Likely, they have not gotten far. I'm sure they think they've won. They'll most likely be celebrating in these woodlands. We need to move quickly while there is still time."
"Right, and I am going with you," said Anastasia.
"Anastasia, don't. You should stay here and rest," said Kydaana.
"I cannot. Not while I know my sister is still out there. I lost my family. She is all I have left."
Anastasia slowly sat up in the bed and then stood up. She then threw on her priestess robe, despite the rips and bloodstains.
"Ana-," began Kydaana before James put a hand on her shoulder.
"There's no stopping her," he said.
Anastasia then threw the hood up.
"Let us go find Illya."
In Olga's realm, Illya held the tanto. She unsheathed the knife. It looked like a miniature version of her katana. She gave it a few swings.
"Thank you for this auntie," Illya said with a smile.
"Of course, dear. Good luck," Olga smiled.
Illya then closed her eyes. When she opened them, she still found herself in Olga's realm. She blinked in confusion and then tried again. She was still in the same place.
"Is something wrong?" Olga asked.
"Yes. I cannot seem to return to my world. I know I am at your shrine."
"Perhaps you were moved."
"Moved? Impossible. Anastasia would not have done that."
"It could have been someone else."
Illya looked surprised.
"There is no way. The chapel was empty when we entered."
Illya's eyes then widened.
"The chapel was empty...," she repeated.
"A ploy by the Gods perhaps. Do not worry child, I will guide you to your body," Olga then stood up and held the cross in her hand high.
It then began to glow brightly. Olga then made the sign of the cross on by touching Illya's forehead, chest and shoulders.
"Amen," Olga said closing her eyes.
She then took Illya's hand and began floating in the air. Illya looked and saw they were hovering above the ground. Olga then few towards the stone ceiling. Illya closed her eyes only for the two to phase through it. They were soon high in the clouds. The light from the cross formed a bright straight beam and soon the two flew fast towards it. Illya looked down. They were high above the city and soon they were then high above the trees. She was amazed. Soon, they flew down and into the woods. They phased through trees and bushes and soon they arrived at Illya's body. Her body was laying on its side on leaves with her hands tied behind her back and the katana missing from her side but the tanto tucked into her belt. Illya then turned to Olga.
"Thank so much auntie. The trip was amazing. Maybe we can do it again sometime," Illya said with a chuckle.
Olga simply smiled.
"Run along child. I must return to my realm. You have your duties here in this world. Protect mortal kind."
Illya nodded and then faced her body. She then closed her eyes and when she opened them, she was in her body once more. She turned and looked to where Olga was only to see nothing. She cracked a smile and then faced the other way. She saw the wolf Servants dancing around a fire Hanging from the trees were animal skulls and deer skins. Illya saw the Shaman with a staff and golden bracers. He had the katana at his side. He was now covered in white paint, patterned swirls, and lines. He gave a bloodcurdling howl in which the other wolves followed.
"Let us begin the connection between worlds!"
Wolves then grabbed spears and danced while others played drums made of animal bone and leather.
"Soon, we will bring the Elf to Master Xuhyir. Summon the great beast!"
