Chapter One

Waking up on a random island was not ideal, especially after the war at Wano. Wano had been freed after the defeat of Big Mom and Kaido. The sands of the island itched at his skin as he peeled open his eyes, eyes adjusting to the bright sunlight and sudden darkness. The sun shone over the beach and ocean, but a dark cloud that blocked all sunlight loomed over the island, casting it in complete darkness. He groaned and used his arm to push himself up. He sat back on his knees and calves, running a hand through his hair. Adjusting to the warring lighting, Shanks scanned the beach as his mind reeled over what had happened.

"Beckman?" Shanks called out. "Yasopp?" No one answered. The beach was deadly silent, the waves silently crashing on the show. Not even the water had sound. Shanks shivered. That was not normal. "Roo! Hongo!" Shanks shouted even louder, voice echoing. And still, no one answered. Shanks got to his feet, shaking off the sand. He kept calling out to his crew with no answer. "What's going on?" he asked himself, breathing heavily from yelling for a solid five minutes.

Shanks squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head before he opened his eyes. He looked around and walked down the beach, staying close to the shore. He called out for members of his crew, gazing at the ocean. No ships or ship debris was in sight. Still, nothing made any noise. The only noise was Shanks yelling and walking down the beach. The darkness over the island sent more shivers down his spine. He had never seen anything like this before, and it unnerved him.

The Red Haired Pirate must have gotten halfway around the circumference of the island before he finally heard something, someone else. He heard a female voice shouting for anyone. Shanks heard her shout for other pirates from the Worst Generation like Trafalgar Law, Eustass Kidd, and even calling out for Luffy. Shanks was intrigued by that.

"Argh, come on!" the girl shouted again. "Someone, answer me!" she screamed loudly, voice cracking and strained. Shanks got closer and saw the girl had long pink hair, wore a white blouse with orangish brown shorts with dark brown stripes, suspenders strapped over her shoulders connected to her shorts, floral knee warmers with frills on either end, and dark brown heeled boots. She wore a green hat and a brown jacket over her shoulders. Shanks recognized her as Jewelry Bonney, one of the Supernovas.

"Hey," Shanks spoke up, startling Bonney who looked at Shanks with wide eyes.

"You're the fourth Emperor, Red Haired Shanks!" Bonney gaped, immediately putting her guard up. "What are you doing here? Did you have something to do with whatever the hell this is?" She glared at Shanks, standing defensively.

Shanks stepped back, raising his arm in surrender. "I don't know how we got here or where here is. I've been trying to search for other people." His eyes softened as he looked at Bonney. "Are you okay?"

Bonney blinked, jaw dropping. "I, umm, I'm fine," Bonney stammered, caught off guard with the question. She had never met Shanks and only heard rumors about him. Though, she knew he had stopped the war at Marineford after Ace died. She glanced at the silent waves. "Why can't we hear anything?" She peered up at the large dark clouds. "What's with the cloud?"

Shanks helplessly shrugged. "That, I don't know. I am just as blind and confused as you." The longer he spent on the island the more and more his nervousness grew. Why would he be there with another pirate who had nothing to do with him? None of this made sense.

"Great," Bonney kicked at the sand. "No answers, no help, no sound." She furrowed her brows and scowled deeply, almost childishly. She crossed her arms over her chest and tried to stay calm, not wanting to freak out and exhaust herself even more.

"We can figure this out," Shanks assured Bonney and himself. Shanks needed to find his crew and help get Bonney back to her crew as well. The sun was halfway between noon and sunset. Shanks figured they only had maybe two hours before sunset. "We'll need to find shelter for the night and see if we can find anyone else on this island."

"I am not going in there!" Bonney exclaimed, pointing toward the darkness. "I do not want to die in some dark void and rot." She shook her head, laughing. "No thank you!" She crossed her arms to create an x.

Shanks couldn't help but laugh at her antics being reminded of Luffy. "It's not ideal, but when worse comes to worse, we'll have to go in there at some point," he pointed out kindly, not patronizing Bonney for being scared. Any one faced with an island that was a dark void would be terrified. Even Shanks was a little scared, but he knew fear couldn't hold him back.

Bonney chewed the inside of her cheek and looked away. She knew Shanks was right, but that didn't mean she had to like it. "Fine," she sighed, "what do we do now?" She peered at Shanks, tilting her head slightly.

"We still have a few hours of light left," Shanks looked at the ocean. "We can keep walking down the beach and see if we can find any wreckage to salvage from, or," he turned his head to look into the darkness, "we can go in there."

"Beach," Bonney said immediately, almost cutting Shanks off. The older pirate laughed and Bonney couldn't help but snicker herself. Shanks had a contagious laugh and laughing helped soothe her nerves. "I don't wanna go in there, not yet." Not ever.

"I don't either," Shanks admitted with a smile. "Come on, we have a long way to walk." He walked past her and gestured with his arm. Bonney followed Shanks, relaxing at his show of kindness and compassion. The duo walked until sunset, reaching three quarters of the diameter of the island. Bonney had to take a breather, adjusting her boots. It didn't take a genius to tell her boots were beginning to hurt her feet.

Shanks kept an eye on the ocean sky to determine how low the sun was in the sky. "The sun will set soon. We've found nothing but some scattered plants. No wreckage. Nobody else," Shanks replied, feeling his hope dwindle. "I think we should head in and see what happens."

Bonney's head jerked up to look at Shanks, her eyes blown wide. She quivered and slowly nodded. "Right...okay," she mumbled, shaking slightly. Normally, Bonney would have argued and caused a fuss, being brash and outspoken, but with the circumstances, she had no idea what was going on.

Shanks offered her a kind smile. "I know everything is really scary right now, but we have to try. We can't survive out here on the beach forever. We have no food, water, or shelter. If marines are out there, we are sitting ducks." He put a comforting hand on Bonney's shoulder, noticing her flinch at the first contact. "Just try to be brave, okay?"

"Right," Bonney nodded, smirking determinedly. "Be brave." She thought of Kuma and her mother. She could be brave. She had survived this long. She can do this. Bonney looked at the darkness. "Okay, let's go in." The moment she stepped toward the darkness, something crashed into her and sent her flying back.
