chapter 6
"We're here," the driver stated, looking at his passenger. The girl nodded, as she hopped off of the carriage. She looked up to the red and orange sky, and the setting sun between the two mountains. Her eyes then turned away to the villagers. She was wearing a blue dress, and a cape that complements her dress. She took a deep breath as she gripped her staves.
"Are you the one who took our quest?" A villager asked the girl. Magic Girl nodded as her reply.
"But. . . . All by yourself? Are you sure you are able to do so?" The same villager asked, as he was concerned. Not just for the village's protection, but also the girl's safety. His expression said so as well.
"I will be fine," she replied sternly. The villager, despite being concern of this issue, nodded in approval.
"Just, be careful. The goblins are very ravenous, and reports say that they have a hobgoblin, a shaman, and wolf riders. But more dangerously, the goblins wear armour," the villager stated, his feet shaking in fear.
"Are these reports genuine, though?" Magic Girl asked.
"They came from our most reliable and trustworthy men. They wouldn't lie."
"I see. . ."
'Goblins that wear armour? This will be complicated, and I have to plan it right,' Magic Girl thought. She began to consider the hobgoblin, shaman and the wolf riders. The wolf riders, especially.
'I've never really seen wolf riders. That would mean that these are experienced goblins with a commander leading them. I doubt the hobgoblin could command even one goblin. Hell, they might kill them instead. So the only possible one is the shaman. . . If only I had that man with me. . .' Magic Girl thought, but then shook the thought of the the white haired male out of her head.
'No. I can handle this on my own. . .'
"So, do they attack at night?" Magic Girl asked.
"Yes, however, they don't bring all of the troops. They only bring out several, according to reports," the same villager replied.
"Well then. . . May I have several of your men who are experienced in the usage of weapons?"
"Of course. We have anticipated your question."
Several men appeared soon after, all having a weapon of some sort. One had a hoe, another had a sickle, another one had a poorly made spear, two had a club, and so on.
"If you are not content with them, just tell us."
"No, no. They're good enough."
No one noticed a few goblins peeking from the fence that surrounded the village, scouting them.
. . . . . . .
"Damn. It's night already?" The white haired male stated, all the while still running and panting. He had been running for hours, not stopping to take a break, due to the limited time he had. He looked up to see the night sky, sprinkled with bright stars, and the pale yellow moon. He felt the amount of pain in his stomach, but tried to ignore this, as he continued running to his destination.
Meanwhile
"Keep your eyes open. They could attack at any time," Magic Girl stated to the men. The men were reluctant on following her orders, due to her being a girl, but because of her experience, and that she took the quest when no one else would, they agreed.
"Alright then," one of the men said. This man in particular was one of the men with the club. He had a typical villager's clothing, with a bandanna wrapped around his neck. A piece of cloth was wrapped around his forehead, and he had a grin. This man then left, and the others subsequently followed. Magic Girl hoped that they do their role perfectly well, and also hoped that the goblins only bring out several, just like what the villager stated. She grabbed her staves, and walked out to the rather windy night. This reminded her of the morning. The time with the peculiar white haired male. Once more, her heart began to beat faster, and her cheeks feeling warmth. She shook her head, attempting to get the male's image out of her head, before going to the entrance of the village, and waited. . . . .
And waited. . . . .
And waited. . . .
'Those goblins are taking their time. . .' Magic Girl thought, before he heard one of the men yelling out about the goblins breaching the fence, before replacing with many screams of pain. Magic Girl and the men assigned ran to where the man yelled, only to be treated to a bloody sight.
The man with the club was very severed. Blood was all over him. His arms were sliced off, with the arm holding the club raised proudly by one of the goblins. The man's body was extremely violated, his intestines and other organs everywhere around the man. The man's own eyes were gouged out and held by another goblin, who held it up proudly.
"YOU SONS OF BITCHES!!!" The man with the hoe yelled out, and he charged forward with a yell, his hoe raised. However, he had suddenly fallen to the ground, an arrow to the head. Another goblin was seen with a long bow and a quiver of arrows on the fence. Many other goblins began climbing over the fence, which seemed too many to count.
Magic Girl quickly chanted a thunderbolt, which struck majority of the goblins attempting to climb the fence. It had also hit the archer goblin, as it was charred black and fell lifelessly to the ground. Suddenly, there was a distinct sound, sounding as if it was approaching the entrance.
Almost like a wolf's howl.
"Wolf riders!!" One of the man yelled out, before quickly replaced by screams of pure terror, not just from the man, but from many other villagers.
"We're outnumbered. . ." Magic Girl muttered, before she ran to the entrance, and saw first-hand these wolf riders. The goblins were on wolves, as these wolves with white fur charged towards any or all living things and began attacking them. Magic Girl saw women being dragged away
"I cannot let any more casualties!" The Magic Girl stated in determination, as she began chanting. However, she was caught off guard when a group of five goblins pinned her down from the back. She was quickly de-clothed by the goblins as she let out screams. She was soon completely naked, and she saw the goblins drooling. Knowing that all hope is lost, she closed her eyes, letting fate to do the rest.
Surprisingly, fate was in her favour.
She heard several goblin yells, and soon, she felt some sort of liquid all over her body, it was only when she opened her eyes that she saw that she was covered in blood, and the five goblins holding her restraint were dead, their heads completely sliced off.
"I guess I was a bit late," a familiar voice said out, and she saw that it was none other than the white haired male, flicking blood from his Chōkuto, looking away from the girl. He then lurched over and began throwing up.
"You. . . . You're back. . . For me?" Magic Girl asked, genuine shock seen on her face.
"How could I possibly leave you? You're my party member," the white haired male replied coarsely, before taking a hand out, facing her. Despite her being fully naked, the male knew that there was no time to be embarrassed.
"So, what're we up against?" The male asked, despite the utter chaos around them.
"A goblin army. Sources said they could have a hobgoblin, a shaman, and certainly wolf riders," Magic Girl replied.
"Wolf riders, eh?" As soon as the male finished saying, he put the blade of his Chōkuto to the left side, and almost instantly, a wolf jumped at the male's side, only to be completely cut in half, from the middle jaw all the way to its back. Blood was soon all over the male's side.
"Well, I'll take care of those. You take care of getting the people to sa. . . Y'know what, let's just save everyone."
As soon as the male stated so, they both went to where they saw a teenage girl being dragged away. Magic Girl chanted a holy miracle, while the white haired male threw his Daishō to the goblin dragging the girl. The blade only managed to go into the goblin's back, as the goblin let out a yell of pain, followed by silence as the male sliced its head clean off. Simultaneously, Magic Girl successfully chanted the 'Protection' miracle, as a large blue barrier surrounded the village, preventing any more goblins to enter the village.
"Nice job," the male stated to Magic Girl.
"You better hurry though. I don't know how long it can last," she replied, focusing her entire body into ensuring that the miracle remained intact. The white haired male nodded in reply, as he quickly went around the entire village and decapitated any and all goblins he had encountered, while making sure if there survivors. He found several, but all were just children. The male adults were killed at their own doorstep, some seemingly so young and holding weapons, and the females were unknown. After ensuring the children int the last house he visited to stay where they were, he went back out, only to see the miracle shatter like glass.
"Oh no. . ."
Instantly, he went to where Magic Girl was. He saw her, on the ground, panting. He held onto her, before sensing something. He looked to the entrance, and saw he saw a hobgoblin, with at least several wolf riders, a horde of armoured goblins, a shaman goblin, and another goblin with a cape and crown in front of the horde of goblins. This particular goblin also held onto an axe and a sword. The axe seemed so polished and in mint condition, with grooves outlining blade. The sword was in the same condition as well, as if both of those weapons were stolen from someone rich, but had never been used.
That was, until Magic Girl and himself (albeit later) arrived.
The male stood up, before Magic Girl held onto the male's wrist.
"No. . . Don't. . . They're too much for you," she pleaded. The male looked at Magic Girl, as he wanted to disagree, but seeing her face on the verge of crying made him reconsider. She didn't want to lose another person that was precious to her. She had lost so many things, and the only thing that mattered for her was this male.
Even so, the male's pride of a samurai overtook himself.
"If I don't do it, who will? There are children in this village, hiding. If they find them, you know what they'd do," the male replied with a heavy heart, just as he heard the goblin with the cape yelling something to its soldiers.
"Stay back," the male said out, pulling his wrist out of the girl's grasp, before walking towards them, the hilt of his Tachi in hand. Much to his surprise, instead of a group assault against him, the goblin with the cape took its crown and cape off of itself, revealing the leather armour beneath the oversized cape, and stepped forward.
"Ah. I see you're a goblin of culture," the male stated, before unsheathing his Tachi and went to a stance.
