Chapter Twenty-Three
The members of the popular boy-band known for their fierce charisma had just returned from their small trip to the beautiful island of Japan and were swamped. As soon as they had gotten back to their dorm, they all collapsed onto the couch and carpeted floor like lifeless bodies without souls. It was supposed to be a vacation for them but of course it didn't turn out as they had expected. They should have seen it coming though. Celebrities didn't have the luxury of enjoying a normal vacation since their fans were everywhere.
Whether they liked it or not, they were always clocked in and working their butts off.
They couldn't even go out and have a nice dinner without being hunted down. So most of the time they stayed cooped up in their rooms unless their manager had prior engagements for them to attend. It was good to be back in their homeland. They really missed the snacks that could only be bought in the streets of Seoul.
Before going back to their apartment, they had begged their manager to stop by the small restaurant set up under tent a block away from where they lived. They got their usual dose of the delicious spicy rice cakes and fish cakes on skewers. They had dinner on the plane but wanted some snacks to nibble on before they went to bed.
Since he had an enormous appetite, Junhong was the one who untied the bag and removed the lids on the containers, allowing the enticing aroma to waft in the air. Once everyone got a whiff of the food, they started to drool and immediately received a boost in energy. Like wild hyenas that hadn't eaten in days, they attacked the spicy rice cakes and fish cakes without reluctance.
"I forgot how good this was," Jongup crooned joyously as he stuffed a piece of carrot smothered in the infamous sweet and spicy sauce into his mouth.
"Hey pass me the remote. I want to see if anything interesting is on." Himchan nudged Daehyun and the younger man did as he was told. As he was flipping through the channel, Himchan didn't find anything worth watching. Reruns of old episodes were playing but he wasn't into watching dramas. "Oh—" he dropped the remote, rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand and did a double-take. "Isn't that Nemo?" He gaped, his mind completely boggled. Hearing the nickname, everyone realized that there was only one person he could have been referring to. Since nobody knew her real name, Youngjae suggested that they called her Nemo because of the clown fish she had been carrying around.
They were talking about Arang.
"What about Nemo? What are you yapping about no—" Yongguk's eyes widened when he spotted a familiar face on the screen and he nearly choked. Luckily for him there was a bottle of water next to him. He gulped down half of it and thumped his chest with his fist. "What's she doing on the news?" He rasped out, regaining his ability to speak.
Everyone's attention was directed toward the plasma mounted on the wall, their mouths hanging wide open. It looked like there was a previously recorded press conference from this afternoon being aired and the people being interviewed you wonder? Apparently it was a member of a hot new rookie group and what was this? The girl they had accidentally ate a meal with? Was she somebody famous? No, that couldn't be it. If she was a celebrity one of them should have been able to recognize her right off the bat. So who was she? What was going on? Daehyun's chopsticks slipped through his fingers and fell onto the floor as he stared at the caption. It was safe to say that he was stupefied.
Big Heat Entertainment Comes Forward and Confirms Dating Rumors.
He searched for the remote and increased the volume, maxing it out, so that they could listen to the reporters and journalists. An older woman wearing a crème blazer and matching suit pants stood up and addressed the buzzing crowd.
"Hello, I am Director Wan of Big Hit Entertainment. First off, I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone for attending this press conference. After the several photos of them went viral, along with the egging incident in front of our building, our agency has been flooded with dozens of questions. Today, we have gathered you all here to give you our statement and to answer any inquiries you may have. Kim Taehyung, a member of our new boy-band, Bangtan Sonyeondan, is indeed in a relationship. His partner and the mystery girl in the pictures with him is his girlfriend, Ms. So Arang." The camera then zoomed in on the young couple who were sitting side by side, their hands meshed together on the table.
{ s i x h o u r s e a r l i e r }
Arang was too busy scrolling through all of the messages she had received from her followers to pay attention to anything else. Most of their inquiries dealt with her whereabouts and if everything in her life was alright. They were starting to worry about her due to the lack of activity on her blog and she sighed apologetically. She had been neglecting her duties as a blogger but could you really blame her? After she had tangled herself in the sticky situation with Taehyung, she had more important matters to cater to.
Her thoughts had been scattered all over the place. She decided that it would probably be best to write a brief post informing her readers that she was fine and that there would be a high chance she'd be going on a short hiatus because of personal reasons she did not want to disclose.
While she was in the midst of typing, she heard the bell chiming through the apartment. She was the only one home at the moment. Her father was at work, her mother had taken Aesook and Eunmi to their grandparents' house and the twins were out with their friends, doing whatever it was teenagers did nowadays.
She wasn't expecting anyone and got up from her seat, a befuddled expression painted on her face. She looked through the small peephole and gasped at the visitor standing on the other side of the barrier. "What are you doing at here?" She hissed quietly after throwing the door open. She peered out into the hallway, relieved that none of her neighbors were around. The last time she had seen him was three days ago, the night they had spent listening to his friends squeal like a bunch of prepubescent school girls.
The two of them had been exchanging emails since then and had gotten a little friendlier with each other. And when I say a little, I mean it literally. They weren't chummy with each other nor were they the best of friends. However, they did become more civilized with one another. Well more civilized than they were before anyways. Taehyung pulled his mask down and winked at her. He let himself in without an invitation before he answered her. "Why I came to spend some quality time with my sweetheart of course." He made sure to place emphasis on the term of endearment as he scoped the apartment out.
"Don't make me puke. Nobody's home. Now tell me what you're really doing here." She closed the door, spun around and her jaw slacked wide open. Speechless, she watched as Taehyung kicked off his shoes, put on her brother's slippers before he flopped onto the sofa.
"Sweet." He cooed. He stretched his legs out comfortably and tucked his hands behind his head.
"Yah, what do you think you're doing? This isn't your house. You can't waltz in here and do whatever you want. Take my brother's slippers off this instant! They don't belong to you!" She growled, stalking over to him.
"No, leave me alone. I'm tired. I want to sleep!" He whined. His eyes fluttered shut and Arang could feel the veins on her forehead and neck protruding out, ready to burst.
"I'm sorry but I fail to see how that is my problem. If you're tired why didn't you back to your dorm and sleep there? Why did you come here?" She interrogated, her arms crossed in front of her chest.
"I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd drop by to say hello to your parents. It's not my fault nobody's home and while I'm here why shouldn't I take a quick nap. I'm not bothering anybody." Taehyung shrugged.
"Yes, you are bothering somebody. You're bothering me. I am not in the mood to be joking around with you right now. Get up and get out." Arang demanded. Who did Taehyung think he was? He had no right to barge into her house like this! Hell, he shouldn't be coming to her house whenever he felt like it either!
Even Byunghyun, her close friend, never visited! What would her neighbors have said if they had seen him? Didn't he know that it was inappropriate and a taboo for a young man and woman their age to be alone like this? Arang usually didn't care if people gossiped or talked about her behind her back but if those people were the people living less than ten feet away from her then yes, she did care.
"I don't want to!" Taehyung rebelled.
Arang was beginning to get pissed and she quickly glanced around. She spotted a pillow and picked it up. It was the ones her mom used for decoration which meant it wasn't broken in and pretty hard. "I give you until the count of three. If your ass is not off of my sofa by then don't say I didn't warn you." The boy chose to ignore her threat as he continued to relax.
"One," she gritted her teeth.
"Two," he still didn't budge.
"Three," mercilessly she began to beat Taehyung with the pillow.
"Hey! Stop that!" He exclaimed as he sat up. He was trying to block off her attacks with his forearms but Arang was relentless. Her blows were aimed mainly at his head which disoriented him a great deal. She had hit him so hard that his hood had fallen off while his mask drifted to the wooden floor. "Yah!" Having been fed up, Taehyung jumped to his feet and snatched Arang's weapon of choice away from her. "What's wrong with you! Can't a guy get some peace and quiet around here?"
"Are you serious? That's what I should be asking you! This is my house! Did you forget that?" She retorted indignantly as she glared at him, her nostrils were flared, her eyebrows crinkled and her lips pressed into a firm and then line.
"Fine! I won't sleep! Geez." Taehyung tossed the pillow onto the couch when his eyes suddenly caught sight of the laptop idly resting on top of the kitchen table. If she wasn't going to allow him to take a nap then he was going to keep himself amused and entertained with the help of YouTube. Arang had traced his line of sight and her breath started to hitch.
No. He couldn't be thinking what she was thinking he was thinking, was he? If he saw her blog it would be over for her! Shoving the boy to the side, she made a beeline toward the portable computer, slammed it shut, coiled her arms around it and held it to her chest. "Don't even think about it!" She shouted.
Taehyung wrinkled his nose as he approached her. Why was she so protective over a laptop? Unless...
A smug smirk greeted Arang and the boy leaned in. Instinctively she moved away only to bump into the edge of the table. If he tried anything she could smack him with her laptop. It would definitely hurt if she used the right amount of force. With his head cocked to the side and his face inches apart from hers, he pried his lips apart and quietly asked, "Were you perhaps watching porn, So Arang?"
Most girls would have been beyond flustered if they had been ambushed with the same question but because it was Taehyung, Arang simply scoffed in his face before she slapped the side of his head. "Get your mind out of the gutter. I don't have the time for that kind of stuff, you pervert." Taehyung winced and comforted the assaulted area. "Now that you know you're not welcomed, can you leave?"
"But we still have a few more details to go over about our relationship," he reasoned. Arang groaned and took a seat at the kitchen table. She gestured for him to do the same. "So I was thinking instead of a mutual liking maybe we should change it and say that you—"
"No." Arang interrupted, not allowing him to finish.
"You didn't even listen to the whole thing. How could you just reject my suggestion like that?" He frowned.
"Because I know what you're thinking and it's not happening. So don't you even dare dream about it." She sneered.
"Okay, fine. No unrequited love." He grumbled.
"Is that all?" If it was, Arang was going to give him the boot.
As if he knew what would happen if he said yes, Taehyung shook his head, ultimately prolonging his visit at the So's residence. "Do you really think it's not a good idea to include a mutual friend? Since your friend knows about us, he could play a big role."
"No, let's not get Byunghyun involved. I don't want to burden him. This isn't his fight." Arang immediately declined.
"But having a third party engaged can be highly beneficial. Besides, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. If it's known that he's friends with me, he could have his own swarm of girls following him around." That would make Byunghyun extremely happy but if those girls only started to like him because of his "friendship" with Taehyung then obviously they were fake and untrusting.
"There's no need. If we do that, we'd have to think of a cover story on how you two dopes became friends too. I'm sure your brain is already struggling to remember the details of our story, if we were add another story I think your brain will explode."
"That's not scientifically possible so in your face." Taehyung stuck his tongue at her and Arang rolled her eyes, the corners of her lips curled upward. How could she forget to add immature to the list? Although it's only been a few days, she was starting to realize that Taehyung wasn't as obnoxious as she had critiqued him to be. Sure he could be annoying and irritating but that was his personality. Those qualities defined him as a person.
Yeah, he could be a bit conceited at times but it's not like he didn't have a reason to be. A majority of celebrities boasted about how pretty or handsome they were. It was normal. Did that mean she had to like it when he bragged about his looks? Of course not. She still wanted to punch him in the throat but refrained from doing so for the sake of their... business transaction. That's all this was. He needed her so that BTS wouldn't crumble and she needed him so that she wouldn't crumble. For those who were hoping it'd be more, sorry to disappoint you.
Just as Arang was about to say something, she heard beeping. Her head snapped toward the door and her eyes rounded in horror. Somebody was home! She then glanced at Taehyung who was staring at her like she had sprouted a second head. She would be dead if he was caught in here! Remember how her parents were old-fashioned? Well if either one of them found out he was over while there was nobody else home, all hell would break loose. "Come on!" She screamed in a hushed tone as she put her laptop down.
"What?" Without warning, she grabbed onto his arm and dragged him to her room. She recalled his shoes and ran over to get them. As soon as she slammed her door shut, the door to the main entrance was flung open. "What are you—"
"Arang, are you home?" Her father bellowed. Taehyung's eyes doubled in size, registering what kind of situation they were in.
She cupped his mouth with her hand and placed a finger on her lips. Her heart was going crazy. See, this was why he should have left when she had told him to! "Be quiet. I'll be right back. Don't you dare make a sound or else you and I are both dead. Understood?" He nodded and she released him. Adjusting her hair and attire, Arang exited the room. She made sure to close her bedroom door. "Dad, what are you doing back so early?"
"I forgot my wallet. I just came to get it. Now where did I—ah here it is." It had been sitting on the counter next to the coffee maker. "Anyways, I'll be home later. Don't forget to eat lunch."
"I won't. Enjoy the rest of your day at work." Arang collapsed when her father left. That was a close one. Her heart was hammering against her chest cavity and if she wasn't so young, she would have thought that she was suffering a heart-attack. Recalling Taehyung's presence, she went over to her room and when she entered she discovered Taehyung skimming through one of her photo albums.
His face was beet red while he chewed on his bottom lip. She didn't like that look at all! Once he saw Arang, he started to laugh like a maniac. He was going through the album with all of her baby and infant pictures!
"I can't believe you!" She shouted, enraged. She rushed in to snatch the book away from him but he raised his arm up and held it in the air.
"No, I have to take pictures so I could blackmail you!" He guffawed as he tried to take out his phone.
Arang kept jumping up, trying to retrieve what was hers. Her baby pictures were embarrassing which was why she stored them in her room. Surely she was not the only person who felt this way. She should have known a jackass like Taehyung would have no problem invading other people's privacy! She should have let her father skin him alive when she had the chance! He was dodging her attempts to steal the album back and was doing a good job until he stepped onto one of his sneakers that was on the floor and tripped. He fell backwards onto the bed, pulling Arang down with him.
The girl stared at his chest in a daze. Her mind had a delayed response and when she realized what was happening, she immediately scrambled off of him. Not meaning to, her knee had accidentally crushed his you-know-what while she was getting up. Taehyung grunted at the excruciating contact and she took this chance to reclaim her photo-album, not aware of the pain she had just inflicted on him. "Y-you brought this upon yourself!" She yelled, slightly flustered as she left. She wasn't that heavy so why was he acting like he had just been squashed by a crate that had weighed a ton?
"What's with my luck?" He groaned, writhing on her bed in distress.
