Chapter Thirty

Arang adjusted the strap of Eunmi's diaper bag on her shoulder and discreetly stole a glimpse of Taehyung who was standing in front of her. She swallowed and tried to organize her thoughts. Why was none of this making any kind of sense to her? Most normal people wouldn't question nice things that happened to them. They would simply accept them without a second thought but Arang had always been a skeptic. She couldn't help but wonder what Taehyung would gain from today. She understood that he had to play the role of her loving boyfriend. However, what he was doing wasn't really necessary in her opinion.

Nothing he had done so far would benefit him in any sort of manner. So what was his motive? Did he just want to score a few brownie points with her family? But even if that was his intention Arang was more than capable of holding her own baby sister. Honestly, Taehyung was being way too nice for her liking and it was a bit uncomfortable for Arang. Was he going to demand something from her later? That had to be it. There was no chance he, out of all people, would act like this without a hidden agenda. It was unlike him.

"Oppa, where are we?" Aesook questioned as the elevator pinged and the doors pried apart. The noise broke Arang out of her trance as she regained her composure.

Taehyung led the way with the child's hand in his own while he held the baby carrier seat with Eunmi tucked securely inside in the other. "We're at oppa's house." He declared as he released her hand. He slid the lock up and entered the passcode. "You're going to get to meet my friends." He smiled. The door opened and Aesook scurried inside, ecstatic to be introduced to his buddies. If they were even half as charming and handsome as Taehyung was, she would definitely like them.

The four of them arrived to an empty dorm and of course Aesook was taken aback. Did Taehyung have imaginary friends like she did? No, that's not it. The rest of the boys were back at the agency, getting in some more practice; they had assured the couple that they would return shortly to join them for lunch. When Taehyung had called them to ask if it was alright for her siblings to come over and visit, a majority of the feedback was positive. Some of the members didn't think it was a big deal but it wasn't the same case for others, namely the youngest of the group.

At the news that they would be having guests over, Jungkook had immediately thought of Saeyoung. A frown had appeared on his face and he didn't bother to hide his displeasure. He remembered how she snapped at him because he had condemned her sister's action and dreaded at the thought of having to see her again.

He didn't have a good feeling about her.

She was obviously a fan of theirs since she was at their fan-meeting but that didn't give her the right to abuse Arang's relationship with Taehyung. She could end up being a crazed, psycho-stalker for all he knew. Jungkook was definitely going to keep his guard up around her. Who knows what could happen if he was careless.

Carefully, Taehyung put Eunmi down in front of the couch. Arang took a seat on the floor in front of her and unbuckled her belt. The baby was awake and by the way she was stretching her arms out, it was obvious that she wanted to be picked up. With a smile, Arang removed Eunmi from the carrier. Aesook was busy running around the apartment with Taehyung chasing after her. Laughter echoed through the place and then a high-pitched screeched ensued. "I've got you now." Taehyung lifted the little girl off of the ground and pretended to eat her since he was the monster.

"Aesook, calm down. This is not our house." Arang stated. She didn't want to disturb the neighbors.

"It's fine." Taehyung replied. "The apartments are sound-proof here. If it wasn't, we would have gotten a lot of complaints already, especially when we watched horror movies with Yoongi. Anyways, what should we order? I'm craving some cold noodles."

"I'm fine with whatever." Arang shrugged. "What about you, Aesook? What do you want to eat?"

"I want to eat whatever oppa eats!" She chimed happily.

Without being asked, Taehyung turned the television on and flipped through the channels until he found one with cartoons being aired. As though she had been hypnotized, Aesook instantly dropped to the floor. She crossed her legs and focused her eyes on the vivacious animation playing in front of her. "How'd you know to do that?"

"This is what my mom does whenever she wants me to stay still." He muttered. "Works every single time."

"Don't you mean did?" Arang corrected. The boy looked at her and slapped on a lopsided grin. That one action told Arang all she needed to know. "You're kidding. You're nineteen and your mother still has to put cartoons on for you to behave? Unbelievable."

"What can I say? I'm a kid at heart." Taehyung laughed with a shrug.

The tone to the front door sounded and when Aesook heard chattering, she broke out of her trance and rushed over to the entrance. Her presence surely took the boys, who had just arrived home, by surprise. Everyone with an Adam's apple froze as they looked at the little girl in front of them. She had her head positioned at a slight angle while her bright and shimmering eyes scanned them. Where did this tiny person come from? No one made a move, mainly because nobody knew what to do. Was she perhaps a fan of theirs? If so she was probably the youngest follower they've ever had.

Taehyung joined the seven of them moments later, his brows arched up. "Guys?" His friends turned their attention toward him before they slowly put the pieces together. "This is Aesook. She's Arang's little sister." He introduced.

Their chests deflated in relief once they discovered that she was not some random stranger. Because let's be honest here, any normal person would freak out if an unknown child was inside of their house. One by one, the boys all greeted Aesook. They made sure to tell her their names and although a few of them (okay most of them) were uncomfortable, they still tried to be as friendly as possible. Interacting with children was not the same as interacting with teenaged girls, there's no mystery there.

Yoongi was the first to enter the living room. He was glancing over his shoulder as he was speaking. "Wow, did your sister shrink since the last time we saw her?" He turned to look at Arang only to stop dead in his tracks at the sight before him.

"I think you're talking about Saeyoung." Arang chortled. "She didn't want to hang out with us today. She made plans with her friends." She looked up but furrowed her brows. She noticed the older male openly gawping at her. "Is something wrong?" She questioned.

"W-what's that?" Yoongi stammered.

Namjoon, Jimin, and Hoseok piled in after him and had the same reaction. How long had it been since they had seen one of these things?

"My sister, Eunmi?" Arang answered albeit hesitantly.

"It looks so weird. Kind of reminds me of an alien." Namjoon murmured.

"Oh my goodness. It's a baby!" Seokjin rushed to Arang and took a seat beside her. "Can I hold her?" He seemed genuinely excited, like he had waited his entire life for this moment. How could she refuse him?

"I don't see why you can't." She picked Eunmi up and handed her over to him while the other four boys gasped in astonishment.

"How old is she?" Seokjin asked as he bounced up and down gently. When Eunmi smiled, revealing the two teeth sitting on the bottom row of her gums, he knew that she was enjoying it.

"A little over a year." Arang informed. "It looks like she likes you."

"I do not look like a girl. Stop saying that." Jungkook huffed as he marched into the living room, looking more irritated than ever.

Aesook skipped behind him, a beaming smile on her face. "But why? You have pretty skin and pretty eyes. Don't you agree, oppa?"

Taehyung nodded in compliance. He was not going to argue with her. Why would he? This was great. Now Aesook had somebody else to bombard with ridiculous, never-ending inquires. He was finally a free man!

"How many siblings do you have?" Seokjin queried.

"Four." Taehyung answered for her.

"Wow, so you're the eldest out of five?" This time Eunmi was playing with his finger.

Arang eyed Taehyung, wondering if he was going to answer for her as well. He didn't utter another word and so she took the liberty to satiate Seokjin's curiosity on her own. "Yeah. I have three younger sisters and one younger brother. The twins didn't come with us since they wanted to hang out with their friends."

"Oh, so the girl we met at the fan-meeting is a twin? That's pretty cool." Hoseok nodded, finally snapping out of his initial shock.

"Cool?" Jungkook whispered to himself. "As if."

"Oppa, you didn't answer my question yet." Aesook whined as jumped onto the couch next to him and grasped onto his arm. "Why are you so tall? Why is your voice so deep? Can my voice sound like yours too? How many fingers do you have? I have a lot!"

It took every last bit of strength for Jungkook not to go insane. He didn't want to yell at the child. It wasn't her fault that children were naturally inclined to ask a lot of questions. It's just how they were. At one point in his life, Jungkook had probably done the same exact thing to another poor and unfortunate soul. Now karma was biting him on the ass for it.

Arang took out Eunmi's bottle and got up to rinse it. The last time she had taken in formula was before they left the house. She must be starving by now. Excusing herself, she made her way over to the kitchen. She didn't know that someone had followed her. "How are you feeling?" Arang peered to her left and found Jimin leaning against the counter, his gaze fixated elsewhere.

The girl pursed her lips out. "I'm feeling fine, I guess. It was a little hot today but I'm still alive. What about you?"

Jimin finally turned to look at her. "That's not what I meant. We watched the press conference too, you know."

At the mention of the dreadful event, Arang returned her attention to washing her sister's sippy cup. "Oh... what about it?"

"I don't know. You just didn't look like yourself. So I wanted to check up on you and see how everything was going. Being in a relationship with a celebrity can never be easy." He pointed out. To say that Arang was stunned would be an understatement. She was completely dumbfounded. Had she been that obvious? "I get it. Going public with your personal business seems a bit invading if you asked me. It's normal to be frightened and timid, especially if you're on national television."

"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" Taehyung entered the kitchen to see why Arang was taking so long.

As if on cue, Arang's phone started ringing. She pulled it out of her pocket and looked at the caller. "I should probably take this." She stated.

"Use my room." Taehyung ordered. "It's the last door to the left."

As she closed the door behind her, Arang inhaled once before she slid the green call icon across the screen. "Hello?"

"So Arang! What have you been doing? I've been trying to contact you since I saw your face all over my television screen! Are you okay? Where are you? How come you're not saying anything? Answer me dam—"

"You're the one rambling on like a maniac!" She shouted in a hushed voice. "How can I squeeze a word in when you don't even stop to take a breath?"

"Yah! Why are you yelling at me? I should be the only one yelling right now! Why didn't you talk to me before you decided to go in front of millions of people and lie like that?" Byunghyun snarled incredulously.

"It was a last minute executive decision. I didn't have time to discuss with anyone, not even my parents." She sighed.

After a minute Byunghyun replied. "Fine. I'll give you that one. How did your parents handle it? Are they okay with you pretending to date Taehyung?"

"Yeah about that. It's a funny story actually. I haven't gotten that far yet..." She chuckled awkwardly.

"You mean..."

"Yeah, they think that Taehyung and I are really an item."

"No way."

"Yes way."

"How'd that even happen?"

"It might have had something to do with me trying to make Sae jealous." She provided sheepishly.  "But in my defense you would have done the same thing if you were being thwacked with a pillow."

"You made a life-altering decision just so you could have your little sister writhing in envy for five minutes? Are you serious right now, Arang? Since when did you get so immature?" Her friend scoffed.

She ran a palm over her face while her shoulders deflated in defeat. "It was a mistake. I know. You don't need to pour more gasoline over the already blazing fire."

"Where are you? Let's meet up and talk about this in person." He declared.

"I can't right now." She coughed.

"Why not?"

"Well, I'm sort of in the mid—" She was interrupted.

There was a knock and then the door opened. "Arang, we have a problem." Taehyung reported, poking his head inside.

She pulled the phone away from her ear and heard crying. Shoot, she forgot to mix the formula for Eunmi! "I have to go, Byunghyun." She ended the call and scurried over to the living room.

"Make it stop!" Yoongi shrieked with his hands clasped over his ears.

Seokjin was rocking Eunmi back and forth in attempt to calm her down but his efforts did not discontinue her incessant wailing. Tears stained her cheeks while snot flooded out of her nose like a never-ending stream. The bystanders were pretty grossed out by the sight. This was why they weren't fond of babies. They couldn't take care of themselves and were always sooooo needy.

"Here," Arang handed Eunmi the sippy cup but the infant swatted it away.

"Oh my god. What's that foul odor?" Namjoon nearly fainted at the repugnant smell and that's when Arang realized why Eunmi was bawling her eyes out.

"I have to change her diaper." She announced, plucking her sister from Seokjin. She didn't feel embarrassed about it though since everyone execrated waste. It was part of the cycle of life.

"Poop alert! Poop alert!" Yoongi screamed as he began to run around with his arms flailing around in the air.

"I'm out of here." Namjoon announced as he walked away.

"Wait for me. It's nothing personal, Arang." Hoseok followed.

"What's with them?" Arang snickered. "It's just poop."

"Yeah, but someone else's poop is not the same as your own poop." Taehyung laughed.

"I got the wipes and a diaper." Seokjin hummed. It looked like he was the only normal one around.

Carefully Arang placed Eunmi on her back and pulled her pants down. She braced herself for what was coming next.

Yoongi was the first to faint.

"I don't want to touch it." Taehyung refused as he shook his head.

"Stop being immature." Arang sneered, grabbing his hand and stuffing the soiled diaper into his palm. "Toss it in a bag and tie it up or else this place will smell toxic."

Although he wanted to protest, Taehyung figured it'd be impossible to win against her. So he obeyed. Upon returning to the living-room he felt his heart come to an abrupt halt while his blood ran cold. Arang had Eunmi on her lap while Seokjin was making funny faces (most likely to get a reaction from the baby). That wasn't what bothered him. The thing Taehyung didn't like was Arang laughing so beautifully.

Was... was he being jealous right now?

author's note

» haha the only one freaking out is Yoongi. Seokjin seems to be a pro though! Jungkook is too busy with Aesook to care while the rest of the guys are just intrigued. I tried making it as cute yet as realistic as possible! However, here we do see more friendly interactions with Taehyung and Arang! YASSSSSSS!

Frozen frames for me are: Taehyung holding Aesook and Eunmi while Arang looked at him from behind, Taehyung chasing Aesook around while she laughs, the boys gawping at Eunmi, Jimin and Arang talking in the kitchen, Taehyung poking his head into his room, and finally Taehyung looking at Arang, Eunmi and Seokjin.
