Chapter Eighteen
Ever so stealthily Taehyung stole a glimpse of Arang through his peripheral vision. When he saw her staring straight ahead, he mimicked her actions. Why was he looking at her? She had nothing worth seeing anyways. They had just hopped off of the bus and were venturing toward the girl's house. He didn't have a clue to where they were but he continued to follow Arang. There weren't too many words exchanged between the two of them since they had left the agency and oddly enough it felt extremely peculiar to Taehyung. He had gotten so used to swapping insults with her that this quiet atmosphere lingering around them made him feel awkward.
Immersed in her own thoughts, Arang exhaled through her nostrils and hitched her lips to the side. Today had certainly been a long and tiring day for her. The scene with the eggs and flour constantly ran through her head and no matter how hard she tried to eradicate it, it wouldn't go away. She had to admit that it was utterly humiliating, add the fact that Taehyung, out of all people, had to swoop in to save her...
That was definitely a grave blow to her ego for sure.
She had skimmed through a good amount of articles dealing with saeseng fans and the scary things they did when she had gotten bored. In her opinion the stories seemed to be a bit exaggerated and over the top. After having experienced it herself, however, she could see that there was some truth about these crazy girls and the demented infatuation they carried for their idols.
They didn't even know anything and they had blindly attacked her.
She didn't even want to think about what would happen to her if they had discovered that she was the owner of the blog where the post regarding Taehyung being a pervert had originated from.
Before she even realized it, they were standing in front of her house. "Is this it?" Taehyung tilted his head to the right and his neck craned upward as he stared at the apartment complex which had at least fifteen floors.
"Oh yeah, come on." Arang prodded, dazed as she punched in the security code. Luckily for her she lived on the second floor. Instead of taking the elevator, they used the stairwell. "Just so you know my sister will probably hyperventilate when she sees you. Although I don't understand why."
This was more like it. Taehyung clucked his tongue as he plastered on a teasing simper. "Of course she'd do that in front of me. It's only normal. I am Kim Taehyung after all. What girl wouldn't lose their mind after having been graced from my presence?"
"The sane ones?" Arang replied immediately; it was like she had been anticipating it. She entered the pass-code for the apartment and when it beeped, she twisted the handle and entered. "I'm back," she announced. She slipped out of her shoes and Taehyung trailed her.
"Unnie! I missed you!" Aesook screeched, running to hug her older sister.
"I missed you too." Arang chortled as she patted the child's head.
"Oh, who's this oppa?" Aesook blinked profusely at the stranger who suddenly bent down, removed his hood and winked at her.
"Hi, cutie. This handsome oppa is named Taehyung." He mused cheekily, thinking that she was the sister that would automatically fawn over him. To his dismay the little girl stepped back and and her expression contorted into one filled with much disdain.
"Why are you following my sister? Are you a stalker?" As fast as her little arms would allow her, Aesook protectively pulled Arang behind her small frame.
"This oppa doesn't look nice at all."
At her negative remark, Taehyung stood up straight, sucked his teeth and quickly looked away. Children were always good at judging a person's character. Arang tried not to howl at her sister's quip and ended up chewing on her bottom lip to restrain herself.
She could always count on Aesook to make her day.
Regaining the confidence he had lost in less than ten seconds, Taehyung cleared his throat and returned his attention to Aesook. He flashed her a dazzling smile and reached down to ruffle her hair. "I'm not a stalker. Oppa is actually your sister's boyfriend." He declared suavely. He saw how Aesook's eyes rounded as she peered back at Arang.
"Unnie, is he really your boyfriend?" She balked.
"Ah, Taehyung! It's nice seeing you again." Mrs. So popped her head out from the kitchen and waved the ladle she had in her possession in the air.
"It's nice seeing you again as well." He returned ever so courteously.
"Will you be joining us for dinner then?" The elder questioned with her both of eyebrows arched.
Taehyung glanced over to Arang, his lips hiked into a small and mischievous smirk. She scowled at him and mouthed "Don't even think about it." Her back was facing her mother so the older woman was not able to see anything.
As much as it would please him to torture Arang, he needed to get back to the dorm. He had a packed schedule tomorrow. He needed all of the sleep he could get. "I would love to stay but I have to go back due to my busy schedule. I hope you understand." He declined politely.
"Ah that's too bad. Arang's dad is in the shower but I'm sure he would have been delighted to see you here. Be careful on your way back." Mrs. So smiled as she continued cooking.
"So Younghae! Give it back to me or else I'm going to skin you alive!" Just then, the twins burst into the living room. Younghae was holding what seemed to be a poster while his sister was chasing after him, her fists flailing around angrily.
"Noona, noona! Look how weird Sae is! I walked in to ask her if I could borrow a protractor and found her crying and smooching this poster!" Younghae skidded to a stop in front of Arang and showed her an enlarged photo of BTS which had been stamped with at least a dozen bold red lipstick marks.
Taehyung eyed the poster and quirked a brow. "Give that back to—" Saeyoung froze up like a statue when she noticed that they had a visitor. But it wasn't just any ordinary visitor. It was V! She grew alarmed and released out a shrill and deafening shriek.
"Oh," Younghae looked at the poster than at Taehyung. "What's the guy in your poster doing at our house?"
Completely embarrassed, Saeyoung snatched her poster back before she fled to the safety of her room. The door closed with a loud bang and Taehyung stifled a chuckle. Believe it or not he's come across more stranger things. "I'm guessing she's the one you were talking about."
"No really? What gave it away?" She grumbled sarcastically. "You should get going now. See you later." She opened the door for him and motioned him to leave.
"Arang, you could at least walk him out." Her mother chided apprehensively.
"It takes literally less than a minute. There's no need." She stated.
"So Arang, that is not how your father and I raised you!" Mrs. So hollered.
"Okay, okay! I got it. I'll walk him out if that'll make you happy." Arang conceded as she unwillingly dragged herself out of the door. "Wipe that stupid smirk off of your face or I'll do it for you." She hissed, waving her fist in the air as soon as she was positive that nobody could hear her.
Taehyung covered his face because the last time she had socked him, she had left a bruise. He couldn't afford another injury like that. "Stop using violence. What are you? A sadist?"
"As if," Arang snorted, skipping down the stairs. "This is it." They reached the exit (which also doubled as the entrance) and she didn't bothering wasting any more time. She swiveled back around to go back upstairs but was prohibited.
Taehyung had grabbed the collar of her (technically it was his) shirt, preventing her from advancing any further. The girl was about to yell at him when a phone was shoved in her face.
"Give me your number." He ordered. Arang pursed her lips out and spun back around so that she was facing him. He noted her expression and crinkled his nose, "Don't get the wrong idea. I only want it because we need to go over the details about our relationship and get our stories straight so that we won't get blind-sided." He pointed out.
"Alright then," Arang took the phone and inserted her contact information. She hit save and returned the device back to its rightful owner. Well that was easier and faster than he had expected. "If that's all you can leave now." She guided him toward the door and shooed him out.
Outside Taehyung threw his hood back over his head and checked if Arang really gave him her number. His jaw dropped seeing what she had entered. He whipped around in incredulity but she was nowhere in sight. That girl had freaking left him with her email address and nothing else! Was she being serious right now? Who used that nowadays?! Making another mental note, Taehyung was determined to get her number at all costs the next time they met.
As soon as Taehyung had gotten back to the dorm, he was bombarded with various inquiries concerning Arang. Like where did she work? What were some of her hobbies? How many siblings did she have? Was she interested in any other idols? Just general things they were curious about. Of course Taehyung had a difficult time answering their questions. He knew in total probably less than ten things about his girlfriend. Unbeknownst to him he had listed them in his head.
Name: So Arang.
Age: 19 years old.
Gender: female
Occupation: employee at a department store.
Specialties: a nasty right hook.
Talent: the ability to eat for five people.
Insults were the only way she seemed to communicate with people. From what he had seen during his brief visit her immediate family consisted of both of her parents, two younger sisters and one younger brother. And there was also a chance that she could be a renowned blogger.
But because he didn't have solid evidence to validate the last fact, he had to remove it.
Once he realized that Arang had been floating around in his mind too much for his liking, he vigorously shook his cranium. He got a minor headache from doing so and halted. What was he doing? He had barely escaped his friends who kept blabbering on and on about Arang and now he was thinking about her? Couldn't he catch a break? Feelings frustrated Taehyung picked up a pillow, smothered his face into it and screamed so hard that it felt like his lungs were going to explode at any second.
"I don't know, I don't really like her but I don't hate her either." Jungkook announced with a shrug of his shoulders. He was just giving his honest opinion. He only met the girl once or twice, which to him was not a lot of time for him to figure out whether or not he liked her.
"She seems okay," Hoseok voiced out. "Maybe everything was just a misunderstanding. Who knows? She could have been having a really bad day when we first met her at the fan-meeting." He defended.
"Any girl who could tame our Taehyung can't be ordinary." Yoongi grinned. "I like her."
"Well, she seems to be bit stiff and awkward but I'm sure with time she will become more comfortable with us. Did you guys notice how jealous Taehyung kept getting whenever one of us offered something to her? I've never seen him like that." Seokjin laughed, recollecting the memories.
"I agree with you, Jin. I feel like there's more to her than meets the eye. We'll just have to spend more time getting to know her." Namjoon nodded. Then they all averted their focus toward the last member who had yet to state his opinion about Arang.
Jimin, who had been oblivious to the fact, looked at his friends before he figured out what they wanted from him. Like everyone else he didn't have that many encounters with the girl but from the few they had shared he felt like she was somebody who was misunderstood a lot. He didn't know why, it was more of a hunch. But of course he didn't tell his friends that.
"She seems like a good person." And that was his sincere opinion of her.
