23. Home Alone

"Let me happen to you."

The morning sun arises. The heat burning your eyes open. Raising your hand you try to shield yourself from it, wanting to sleep the pain away from yesterday but initially, you groan when the palm is not enough to hide that big sun away from you. You give up.

As hard as it is for you to believe, the night yesterday happened. From revealing the truth to the part where he leaves you heartbroken in your room. You remember it all pretty well. Leaving a mark on your mind and heart.

There are eyebags under your eyes as you look at yourself in the mirror. Little swelling on your face from all that crying you did on your pillow last night, plus having problems sleeping. It sure did a number on you.

You are walking inside the bathroom. Jungkook's brush is laying right beside yours, leaning against yours. Oh, your heart. With a sigh, you pick up the toothpaste only to see it squeezed out until its last breath.

You look out for another paste. Notice a vanity stuck above the mirror on the tile. You open the cupboard and witness a few necessities. There's a shaving kit, sunscreen, cleansers, exfoliator, and oil cleansers and it's all Jungkook's.

His skin, you get why it's so good. He took good care of himself. You're in awe as your eyes lower to the next section. There are bathing products, all aloe fragrance. One of the reasons why he smells so fresh and just like aloes.

You bring the body wash bottle to your nose and open the lid a little, sniffing it and whining. It smells just like him. You don't even notice and your face is heating up.

Shutting the lid off you place it back where it belongs and shut the cupboard close. Pick up the brush and the new toothpaste from the third shelf of soaps and toothpastes to clean your teeth and rinse your mouth before washing your face and going for a shower.

After you dry yourself you put on a black t shirt on shorts. Pulling a bun over your head, you wear your slippers and lock your room behind you going downstairs with a little hope of seeing Jungkook. You want to know how he is doing, whether he had breakfast or not.

The time read past twelve and there's silence around. Traces of no one around. As you walk further you see a sticky note on the refrigerator. It says that Mr and Mrs Jeon are out for today, will probably come by tomorrow and the needed vegetables are ready in the fridge for the dinner. As for breakfast and lunch, it needs to be defrosted.

Much to your surprise, the food is already in the dish, covered with dews of hot steam. The counter is clean with a freshly washed plate a little misplaced on the rack and a pair of rubber gloves used for washing the dishes.

Jungkook was here before you. Ate his lunch and left for work he does at weekends. At least he ate. This means the situation isn't bad as you thought it was. There is a way to explain yourself.

You thought about it a lot yourself last night. Of course, you did wrong but there was a reason you did it. Partly, not your fault which held a little place for you to make your point too. You just wanted to see him and talk to him. How long was he going to make it back?

Feeding yourself a little you get done with it with an appetite long lost. As for Jungkook, he is sitting on a recliner chair, with his head thrown back. His hands clasped behind his head with his eyes closed. Little creases formed on his forehead as if he is deep gone in the lane of thoughts.

"Who's the girl who's got you all worked up huh?"

Jungkook opens his eyes and finds his senior placing a cup of coffee on the glass table for him. "What do you mean?" He gets up and picks up the sugar sachet, tears the top cover with his canines and pours it into his hot coffee before whirling it with a coffee stirrer and immediately taking a sip of it.

"Mm." He nods sternly. The coffee hits him in the gut. Brows puckered together and lips pressed together. This warmed him a tad bit.

"Ya know what I'm talking about Jeon."

Jungkook sends her a look of confusion, "No I don't Eun-ssi. You've got to tell me." He crosses his legs before checking the time on his wristwatch. "Besides no chit-chatting. We're out of the break in two. Got to drink this to clear my head before I go in."

Eun, Jungkook's senior who is mostly looking out for him rolls her eyes at him. Sips her coffee and deadpans, "Honestly I don't give a shit about your love life. Just to let you know you're sucking today – which isn't you." She intimidates him and he knows she's having that affect on him.

"Men like you only falter when there's a dainty pretty girl involved almost on her way to crumble you. Either get her out of ya head or get outta here."

There's a straight-up warning coming ahead, he knows it.

"Let me tell you this since no one else is, you c'mere for two days a week. Is excellent at it no doubt but one mistake you do and it's left for someone else to clean."

Jungkook nods, head down. As if he got a world to save and tons of responsibilities on him. "I know. It's just a bad day. I'm giving it my best so cut me some slack?" He requests, looks up at her with a forced smile. Not a fake but something like she should just go with it.

She doesn't need to but it's him. Jeon Jungkook, the boy who started from scratch by xeroxing copies of files each time to become a professional sales representative in a few years. What's more remarkable is that more than he wants this company it is the company that needs him.

Which is why, he's still coming on weekends. Only weekends. Out of the two days, it's today he decides to fuck it up. She can't complain. Don't want to drag this for too long. He was still young.

So, She gives up. Settles the coffee cup back on the table. Eyes on him. "We got high expectations from you. You're our star employee, don't let that get to waste." Says what she has to. At least.

"Aye aye, captain. On it." He swings his arm in a salute as she returns him a smile. Packing up her stuff to get back to her office. "Clear that pretty head of yours before you come in. I don't give second chances."

He sits up stiff, "Noted." Watches her leave and relaxes back on his seat. Groans. Bad day. It's not like him. He's distracted, knows it and blames it all on you. It's since yesterday that he's all messed up in his head.

The truth that he learnt has left him devastated. Got him to think from a whole different perspective. It changes everything. The way he felt about you. It wasn't just lingering feelings or something like infatuation.

He realizes that what he was feeling at the moment with you isn't something he should get rid of. It isn't what he should forget about. It's real. It's true.

The heart that hasn't raced for anyone before did for you. It knew just too well to when to work letting him know that it's always been you.

He's disappointed with how you came out to him. Whether you were even planning on telling him in the first place or burying the truth to yourself till your grave. He's been thinking about all this since yesterday. Can't seem to come up to a conclusion.

But knows that there's one way. He has to talk to you about this. Wants to know why you did what you did. If Jennie knew this or not. If you gave it a lot of thought or just lost feelings for him because how were you able to see him with someone who was not you?

If you ever felt jealous or let it simply happen because it's supposed to happen that way. He got tons of questions. All your answers let him come up to make a decision where both of you stood.

There's this restlessness in him. His stomach making weird noises since morning. Of course, he knows he hadn't eaten much from the morning. Just a few spoons to push him through his day. Knows, his parents are not at home and you're left all alone.

Even though he wants to let you be, there's a big part of him that doesn't want to see you suffer. Blame his heart. He now sees the puzzle coming together. Everything makes sense. That freedom of feeling anything he can. In short, he doesn't feel offended by it anymore.

A little progress?

Probably. But is still pissed. Not more than yesterday. Never saw it coming so it was quite a reaction he gave. Hurt you, he knows but it is what it is, it happened and now it's all in past.

But for now, he just wants to get home.

Your hands work on the cabbage cutting as the orange sun sets off through the window. Little bird chirps echo in the background. A few kids cycling their way back home and a grandpa taking their little golden retriever home as it jumps on him the moment he spreads his arms.

There was so much love out there and yet you feel the unluckiest one of all. The loneliness got the best of you today. Made you do your laundry, clean the house, vacuum the floors, and take a shower again.

Jungkook was coming back soon and you wanted to treat him something special. Like an apology. So, you're making a gimbibap, a ramen and a desert. You haven't decided on the desert yet but maybe brownies were your get-go from the start.

It wasn't something grand but you wanted to make something for him. So, you're on it. You have no idea what went through his mind while he was away. After yesterday you don't expect any good. He is hurt.

You'll be grateful even if he looks at you, eye in eye. He just has so much effect on you that it's got you questioning if you're even a whole complete person without him. Like, as if there's always a part of you that he owns. A part you're not willing to give anyone but him.

Those ten years haven't been a joke. Things have happened. A lot of them. Most of it is why it's bringing big fights between you both. Cause it means something. It's not a subject of jokes or something you could take lightly and laugh it off.

Both of you know about the bond you've shared in those emails. It's much more than what it looks like. Beyond words which can only be explained through actions that you both are aware of.

The cabbage is cut completely. Setting the cutting pad aside you collect all the cut pieces of cabbage and add them to a big bowl. Mix it up in soy sauce, brown sugar, bok choy, garlic, few pinches of chilli peppers and add the sauces needed. Asesame oil, chilli paste and vinegar.

Mixing them up together properly you lift your head only to check on your reflection on the steel utensil's surface. Your hair is damped. Resting one on of your shoulders. The bangs pushed back and the skin heated pink from the hot shower.

The top ain't helping. It's an oversized white hoodie you pulled on yourself when you thought it was chilly outside which isn't and is only sweating you up plus the sweats below not helping either.

The frying pan is ready with hot oil, leaving it now will only help the house burn. So you decide to get done with ramen and go to change. You empty the bowl of cabbage into the frying pan and look for ramen.

There are closed cupboards above you. Jungkook said, if you ever wanted to cook ramen at midnight it's on the shelves right above the stove. Kept it there especially for you since they're always sprawled inside his room. Since he's the only one who eats it.

You find them exactly where he said it'll be. You try to reach for it and fail when you see it's quite above your reach. Just a few inches. You're on your toes now. Slowly getting there. Just a little more... and you stop when an arm hovers above you and takes out the ramen packet for you. You flip your head back to only let out a little gasp.

"Watch yourself." You are met with home. Those doe beautiful eyes you adore so much. "There's an oil pan below you. Jesus, Y/n. Be careful." Jungkook is scolding you. Oh how much you missed this. Missed him.

His hair was neatly pulled back a little out of place. Only makes it believable that he is real. Still in his office fit. Clean ironed black suit on a white shirt underneath with a loose tie. Few top buttons off.

He was as heated as you. But his eyes dance around your wet hair to your neck to that oversized hoodie you barely fit into. He is having thoughts.

Where your hair is wet and Jungkook dips down, his lips grazing your neck. Your arms are enveloped around his shoulder blades as he inhales your freshly shampooed hair. Realizes he loves your scent and is the best of the best out there. Is hugging you tight and lifting you off your feet only to pepper kisses on your cheeks as you let out little giggles. Finds it adorable and gives your cheeks a little bite only for you to pinch one eye shut while he chortles on your skin.

He blinks and you are waiting for him to hand over the ramen packet to you. "Oh right," He passes it and regains his stance. This was how he saw himself with you when his thoughts weren't restricting him anymore. Too much. The energy was surging through his veins and he knows he shouldn't do this right now.

So he decides to let the thought brush. The next moment he is asking what you are making. You have your back in front of him. Busy mixing the dish. He lets out that you don't need to prepare anything and that he already has ordered something to eat. Leaves you disappointed.

The two dishes were almost ready but he still declines and walks upstairs to freshen up. It just makes you want to cry your eyes out. You thought so much to do but everything went in vain. No efforts you put in were going to help.

But either way, you ready the ramen bowl of two. If he wanted to eat he could. The doorbell rings and before you could get to it, you see Jungkook already rushing downstairs with a towel hanging around his shoulders while wiping his hair with one end of the towel.

A plain white skinfit west underneath a grey hoodie. A marvellous match, you think. His zipper halfway down and those - those grey sweatpants making him look a perfect boyfriend material man.

It's a casual look but still tempting enough to make you glance twice.

As he gets to the door you finally avert your gaze and place the egg omelette in between the cooked vegetables and put both bowls in one tray, keeping four chopsticks aside to eat with and carrying it to the table until he arrives with two large packets in his hand.

You see him approaching the table and placing them on the table. The fresh bathed aloe fragrance of him makes your toes curl. It's just so fresh and calming.

You control yourself, get out of your thoughts and slide the tray away as he removes the packages. There is a big box of fried chicken, Tteokbokki, shrimp, kimchi fried rice, a few bottles of soju and the grand finale - an Ice cream.

What is surprising you is, everything is your favourite, second he knows it too, third, it is torturing your palate. Oh God, did he purposely do this to torture you?

"Are your friends coming over?" You ask, scratching below your ear. A little hesitant to talk so casually after that drama of yesterday. Jungkook brings the towel to his hair and dries them as little specks of water almost reach you but he is careful.

"No, they aren't." Just a simple three-word answer, no explanations further. The meal wasn't enough for just one man. It was quite obvious he was having someone over. You try again, playing the safest bet.

"Your mom and dad coming early?" You play with the tablecloth, circling your finger around as he still declines, "No."

"A colleague of yours?"

"No."

"Boss?"

"No."

"A girl?"

He stops rummaging mid-way and glances at you. You are waiting and he words it out for you.

"No, it's for us."
