The Southeast Military Base

"[CHE5TER]-"Lands of a peaceful civilisation, like watching the sky in the midnight. Each star an unique person, each black hole a fear, each galaxy an united friendship. [RY4N]-Are you done quoting our father's words already, Ches?

[CHE5TER]-What? I cannot dream anymore now? You like quoting from your books as well!

[RY4N]-I know, but it gets a bit annoying repeating the same thing over and over again. Don't you think?

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* You are such a joy killer sometimes...

Yet another memory, with the two small boys seeming to be on a roof of a building in the Underground City, looking up at the city's "sky". Not exactly a sky, more like the ceiling of the cave, while talking to each other out of boredom.

[CHE5TER]-Hey, RY4N?

[RY4N]-Hm?

[CHE5TER]-How do you think these lands looked like?

[RY4N]-I don't know. Old houses side by side? How could it look like?

[CHE5TER]-Just that? What about machines? How do you think they were making their machines back then?

[RY4N]-CHE5TER, it was almost 250 years ago. I don't even think machines existed back then. Probably it was a normal and old-looking city. We've evolved in technology, remember?

[CHE5TER]-But then, how did we get so many ideas from nothing? Are we really that creative or did we got inspired from something from the past?

[RY4N]-Well, isn't your kind suppose to survive by evolving its creativity? I mean, we wouldn't had anything if your kind didn't exist in the first place.

[CHE5TER]-Hmm... Then why do you think the Creators are the only ones to have these powers?

[RY4N]-I don't know... Maybe that's how the First Man wanted you all to be?

[CHE5TER]-But couldn't He program the machine to create beings with more powers? Like... Oh, a C born and an M born combined! Or maybe even more powers! How about flying beings? Or invisible beings? Why do we have to be only three races?

[RY4N]-Why don't you go and ask Him on your own? Why do you think I have the answers to these questions?

[CHE5TER]-Then how am I suppose to find Him? Nobody knows if He is even alive at this point, not to mention that nobody knows how He looked like!

[RY4N]-Probably He was an average-looking guy. You can start with that idea in mind.

[CHE5TER]-Then... there is a possibility that He might be hiding among us all?

[RY4N]-If He is alive, then maybe. Who knows.

[CHE5TER]-So He might be Master? Or Mr. AD4M? Or anybody that we know?

[RY4N]-I could be Him as well, did you think about that?

[CHE5TER]-Nahh. You don't look THAT old.

[RY4N]-I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not...

There is a small silence, before they start talking again.

[CHE5TER]-Do you think that people back then had everything they wished for?

[RY4N]-Why do you ask that?

[CHE5TER]-Everywhere you read or hear from tells about how happy those people were in those times. If they were so happy, that would mean they had everything, right?

[RY4N]-Maybe they weren't that happy as everyone says.

[CHE5TER]-Why do you think that?

[RY4N]-If they were so happy, then why did they start a war in the first place?

[CHE5TER]-You got a point... But they seem more happy than us at least!

[RY4N]-But aren't we happy too?

[CHE5TER]-I mean, they had freedom and technically everything you could ask for, while we are trapped down here not being allowed to go up there at all.

[RY4N]-But we have freedom as well! Even if it doesn't look like. I mean, you are an example of that! You are free to wander around the city without anybody telling you to stop and stay still.

[CHE5TER]-Well, it's not like someone can catch me!

[RY4N]-Yes... And besides that, we have each other, remember? Isn't this "everything"?

[CHE5TER]-Yeah, but I wish to be able to go wherever I want as well! I want to become an explorer and see the whole world, remember? Being trapped down here won't get me anywhere!

[RY4N]-Well, you can have everything you want in life, but I wouldn't imagine a future without my sibling. I can have everything I dream of, but you are my little brother in the end. Would you be able to live a life in a world in which every dream comes true but without me in it?

[CHE5TER]-I...

He shut his mouth in the end. The joyful face of his is now lost in its thought, just because of what his brother said.

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* No... I guess you are right...

[RY4N]-See? You already have everything. We will always have everything as long as we remain together.

[CHE5TER]-Yeah... Yeah! You are right! Then should we promise here and now that we will never part our ways in the future, no matter the situations we'll encounter?

[RY4N]-Heh... Alright, then!

[CHE5TER]-Then I, CHE5TER LENKOV, younger son of the Great Leader M4TTH3W LENKOV, promise to you that I would never EVER separate my path from yours, no matter what Goddess M1NERV4 prepared for me!

[RY4N]-*giggles* And I, RY4N LENKOV, older son of the Great Leader M4TTH3W LENKOV, shall promise these words to you as well! I shall keep my promises until my path meets its end and never go off my word!

[CHE5TER]-From now on, we shall work together in whatever problems we might encounter throughout our journey of this life and continue it as partners!

[RY4N]-It's a promise, Mr. CHE5TER?

[CHE5TER]-It's my word, Mr. RY4N!"

And yet, the memory ends, being thrown back into the present where RY4N looks at the ceiling of their room as he just woke up. On the right side of the room though, CHE5TER seems to be still sleeping. Looking at Him really shows how tired He might be now as well.

So, since it has no point of staying and doing nothing here, he gets up from his bed, leaving the room silently as the Great Leader still rests. He doesn't stay at the base though, as he takes his leave and starts going around the city on his own. He seems to buy some things around to make another offering to the statue, not before he goes to talk with someone again.

Some hours have passed as he stood in the city, almost as if he didn't even realise how fast the time went by. What stops him from his business now though is seeing a figure that wanders the city alone, almost a familiar one. Then, he starts following that figure to see what it is up to. But of course he knows it is his brother just working, maybe the reason why he started following Him in the first place.

The Great Leader gets in a closed area again, where He meets up with a crevaator to have a talk. On what subject? We don't know yet. So let us see it.

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Master CHE5TER! Sorry I'm late!

[CHE5TER]-Took you long enough. You know I don't have all day, right?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Y-Yes! A-Apologies!

[CHE5TER]-Never mind that now. You know why I told you to come here?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Our leader only told me to meet up with you, but I'm afraid he didn't say the reason as well.

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* Useless as ever... Anyway, you know how to enter the City of Above, don't you, little crevaator?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-I-I mean I've lived there and all but...

[CHE5TER]-So you do or not?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Y-Yes, yes! I do! But--

[CHE5TER]- --Good. Do me a favour then and go up there, now.

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-But Master! The members from Mr. N3MES1O's group are guarding the entrances! There is no way in Hell we have access to that city now! We can get caught and sent to be investig--

As the crevaator talks, the ruler creates with His left hand a small fake ID card, which He throws to the crevaator the next second it is done.

[CHE5TER]-Go wash yourself and dress up more formally. Tell the guards from the entrances that the Leader from the Southeast Base put you in a quest around the City of Above and you have the Great Leader's approval to go there alone. Do you understand what I'm saying?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Y-Yes, Master!

[CHE5TER]-Very well. Then here's what you have to do: I want you to meet up with someone called 0ZUL. You will find him somewhere on the north side of the city, near the abandoned academy. Tell him that Young LENKOV informed you about a sabotage plan and that he has to do his part of the work today at 41:00. He will know what to do from then on. Understood?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-U-Understood!

[CHE5TER]-Good. Move!

And so, the crevaator runs away, as the Great Leader remains alone and takes a cigarette to rest. As He lights it up though, He starts talking again.

[CHE5TER]-...You know, I didn't invite you here, don't you? Stop hiding, RY4N.

He then looks at RY4N, who was hiding to spy on Him, before he leaves his hiding spot and approaches his little brother who was calling for him. It's funny actually, because CHE5TER hands him a cigarette like nothing happened, as well as His lighter. He doesn't refuse though, he just takes them and does the same thing.

[RY4N]-How did you know that I'm here?

[CHE5TER]-Isn't this enough for me to know?

He shows him His right hand, more exactly the signs on His arm, as two parts are brighter, while the last one, the left part, stands dark as ever. The signs of the Creator and his two Errors, the bright ones representing them.

[CHE5TER]-Maybe you forgot that I hate when people spy on me. So? Why did you come here?

[RY4N]-*sigh* I simply wanted to see what you're doing here by yourself.

[CHE5TER]-Hmph. And? Are you surprised of what I'm doing?

[RY4N]-No, not really. I expected it for years now.

[CHE5TER]-Oh? You've expected me to have crevaators as people that work for me?

[RY4N]-I mean, you never told anybody who these people are, so I did expect it from you to work at some point with them. Plus that... Officer KYR4 already told me.

[CHE5TER]-Right... Officer KYR4... Then if there's nothing else, you should go back to the base. Neither the Great Leader nor the future Leader are present there and I don't want the people of the base to cause chaos again.

[RY4N]-...You really want to get rid of me, don't you?

[CHE5TER]-Harsh way to put it. But I simply have to go back to my work.

[RY4N]-Consisting in...?

[CHE5TER]-A small plan for today. You are more curious than I was at this point, Brother.

[RY4N]-I can be curious just like you. I'm not banned from being so.

[CHE5TER]-Okay? So what's your point?

[RY4N]-My point is simply that I want to hear your plan, Mr. Great Leader.

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* I arranged with some of my people a small sabotage near the walls of the city. By doing so, we could have some time for us to search for a small information that I've heard about. Seems like the General is finally putting his plans in action...

[RY4N]-How do you plan on sabotaging them?

[CHE5TER]-They rely their existence on the electric energy gained by the slaves' powers. We will create a small distraction for the M1SH4M's people to take them away from the M soldiers. So, they remain without a source of energy for a few hours and we will be able to enter the buildings more effectively. I mean... I will do it. This way, not even M1SH4M's people will see me.

[RY4N]-So we will get back to our old business, I see?

[CHE5TER]-Just this time for now. It's a bit too risky to do any of our old missions now since the M soldiers are everywhere. We will have to wait for a while until everything calms down.

[RY4N]-*sigh* Good to hear, I guess...

RY4N doesn't seem so happy about this though, even though CHE5TER tried to ensure him it won't be a problem. Maybe because he knows the risks of doing a mission when it's about the General's plans?

[CHE5TER]-Very well. Then you are free to go.

[RY4N]-...How about a refuse?

[CHE5TER]-Hm?

[RY4N]-How about I stay and help you this time? Since I know the plan and all...

[CHE5TER]-Are you serio... RY4N, I told you that I cannot take you with me for now!

[RY4N]-Does it really look like I'm listening to you anymore?

The Great Leader has that empty look again, yet RY4N doesn't seem as he wants to give up on his words. He just waits until He gives up, winning this weird game of theirs.

[CHE5TER]-...You simply don't want to give up that easily, do you?

[RY4N]-Yeah, something like that.

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* Alright. You win this time. For the gods' sake...

[RY4N]-Oh, so I was right.

[CHE5TER]-Right? Right in what?

[RY4N]-Right in the thought of you simply avoiding me to be around. How come you accept now but didn't want to accept before?

[CHE5TER]-Because now it's not something much I would do anyway? And it's not like you are going to leave me alone.

[RY4N]-Then why didn't you want me to come in the first place?

And again He looks at him straight in the eyes before He speaks again, a bit disappointed.

[CHE5TER]-...2 - 0 for you, Mr. RY4N. But don't get yourself cocky. We will see who wins in the end.

[RY4N]-Heh. Stop crying now. Let's get going and see what you got for me.

The Underground City

Yet it seems like they remain for a while in their city first, staying on the roof of a building and looking on the horizon. CHE5TER is simply making sure His equipment is set correctly first, so it won't fall from the movement and get damage, yet RY4N is just watching the view in the meantime.

[CHE5TER]-New times, old view, isn't it, RY4N?

[RY4N]-I guess... You sure like to play this game, huh...

[CHE5TER]-Game you say... If you want it to be a game, then so be it.

[RY4N]-So? What's the destination?

[CHE5TER]-End of the city? Does it really need a specific destination? It's not like we had one back then either.

[RY4N]-If you say so...

[CHE5TER]-It's been a while since you did something like this. Are you sure you can keep up?

[RY4N]-Who do you take me of? You really think that I'm not able to do anything? Want me to demonstrate it to you, Mr. Great Leader?

[CHE5TER]-Please. Be my guest.

[RY4N]-Then I guess the last one pays for both of us.

[CHE5TER]-Then I hope you have your wallet with you, Mr. Officer.

[RY4N]-Hahah... In your dreams.

As he said his last words, RY4N takes a small advantage and starts jumping to the next building, as CHE5TER remains behind, laughing in His mind at His older brother that now began their game.

[CHE5TER]-....Poor choice of words, Brother. You forgot I cannot dream anymore?

And so, small competition is now going on, but it's a weird one. Can't really say it's a competition, nor a team game. Even if RY4N was in advantage, CHE5TER seems to have already managed to catch up with him, as He looks back at His brother being now behind Him, with a creepy smile, as if He wants to mock him.

[RY4N]-Oh, now you're just showing off!

But it does not take long before they are equal, as they start a small charade, like a dance in the sky, a duo. They help each other, then start racing again, then help again. It's a weird dance, and yet they seem to be dancing it synchronously, as if they were truly made to work together till the very end.

Even CHE5TER seems to be feeling more relaxed while playing this strange game. Maybe it's an old game they used to play together, one that He created just for them. Even with that creepy smile of His, it seems more sincere than the other ones. Maybe it took a while since He last felt such a warm feeling, bringing back the old memories they wish they could come back. But He stops all of a sudden during this whole play, as He saw something, not exactly sure what, losing the advantage He was about to have.

But RY4N continued, even getting to the end of the city as they said. It's a small celebration after, of course, as he has won.

[RY4N]-Show off now, rascal! Told you I can keep up! Did you see it now, CHE5TER? There's no way you can refuse me in any case! Did you see, CHE--

...But as he looks back, there is no sign of his little brother, which, of course, confuses him.

[RY4N]-...Ches? CHE5TER?

It doesn't take long before he starts going back, this time in a slower movement. He looks around for a while, until he finally sees his brother laying down on one of the roofs from a lower building. He wasn't looking so good though, as if He just fell from not paying attention, yet covering His ears all the time and His eyes being a bit... terrified?

[RY4N]-Ches? What's happening?

No response.

[RY4N]-...CHE5TER! Answer to me, Brother!

He shakes Him a little, only for Him to wake up to reality again. He looks a bit surprised at first, staring at RY4N as if He almost didn't know when he got here, but He got into His character not long after.

[RY4N]-...What's happening with you?

[CHE5TER]-...Nothing. I guess I got a bit carried away back there.

He then tries to get up, but seems like He got a bit injured at His leg from the falling. Not something serious though, but the problem is that He is still affected by the gas till this day. He didn't get the leg broken, just a small wound from which blood flows. As RY4N sees that He is injured, he takes Him by a hand and puts it around his neck to help Him move.

[RY4N]-...You actually fell?

[CHE5TER]-Laugh at me now, won't you? I'm just a simple being. I can do mistakes as well.

[RY4N]-Yeah, but... I don't remember you making such small mistakes on a game for which you created its rules.

[CHE5TER]-Yeah, yeah... Let's just go already. Save the mocking for later.

And so, RY4N helps Him walk in the end, while CHE5TER seems to be thinking of something while they struggle a bit to get back to their destination because of His wound.

"...It gets worse, huh? Seems like you like playing games as well, just like us."

It doesn't take long before they arrive again at their destination, for them only to leave and go towards the location of the Statue of M1NERV4. There, RY4N is making his offering to the goddess, while CHE5TER bandages His leg for Him to move again and shots Himself with an Energy Killer. The dose is smaller this time though, Him being very careful in what He's doing.

[CHE5TER]-So you still give Her your offerings, RY4N?

[RY4N]-Is there a reason for me to stop? She's the god that deserves our recognition. Even you pray to Her till this very day.

[CHE5TER]-Aren't offerings suppose to be given by kids though?

[RY4N]-Aren't we all Her children?

[CHE5TER]-If you say so...

So when CHE5TER's done with His leg, He gets up and stays side by side with His brother, before they talk again.

[RY4N]-...Remember when we were younger and came here together with our father to pray to Goddess M1NERV4 and we both used to do small offerings like this one?

[CHE5TER]-And then I was running wherever the fuck I wanted and used to draw that map of mine of the city? I wonder where it is now actually...

[RY4N]-*chuckles* Right, and after that, our father was putting me to search for you in the entire city 'cause we didn't know where you were off to again. You liked to give me work even when we were kids.

[CHE5TER]-Ha ha. Yeah, very funny.

There is moment of silence between them again, before they start talking once more.

[RY4N]-Say, Ches... You were joyful a couple of moments ago. For real this time. Why have you changed all of a sudden? I don't think it's just a wound your problem.

[CHE5TER]-...Why do you ask?

[RY4N]-Just a thought?

[CHE5TER]-Well, it's truly nothing. And who says I was joyful exactly?

[RY4N]-Oh, come on. Don't try lying to me. You were having fun just now. I saw it on your face.

[CHE5TER]-So?

[RY4N]-What do you mean "so"? Tell me what's happening!

[CHE5TER]-...

The Great Leader doesn't respond though, as He looks down trying to avoid the subject, while RY4N looks at Him with in worry.

[RY4N]-...Why do you refuse to talk to me ever since that day? Did I do something wrong? Did any of us do?

[CHE5TER]-...Just because you are my brother by code, doesn't mean I have to tell you everything, RY4N. There are things that I would like to keep them for myself. I'm sure you have yours too.

Though His voice is serious, on His face you cannot really read "happiness" from this subject. He isn't enjoying that much that He has to lie and everything, but for some reason He still refuses to talk.

[RY4N]-*sigh* You do you then... But I don't feel well with the idea that you are hiding something from me.

As they finish talking, CHE5TER looks back at the statue, at the faceless goddess that stays in front of Him. Then, He puts Himself on a knee, for some reason on the wounded one, even though it still hurts Him. He looks down, with His right arm touching the ground, and finally closing His eyes, praying to the goddess.

RY4N does the same, but instead of touching the ground, his arm touches the offering, praying as well. Though they do the same thing, the wishes always differ from person to person, making everyone unique in their way. As they finish the praying, they stand up again, look for a bit at the statue for the last time and then start talking once more.

[RY4N]-What did you pray for?

[CHE5TER]-For peace, like I always do? It's that even a question that should come out of your mouth?

[RY4N]-Right...

[CHE5TER]-What about you?

[RY4N]-Hm?

[CHE5TER]-What did YOU pray for? You used to say we have everything as long as we are together. How come you still do offerings and stress yourself with all of these small matters?

[RY4N]-There are things that I've lost as well, CHE5TER. Even if I say we have everything, doesn't mean I should not pray, right?

[CHE5TER]-Okay... Then what are these things you pray for?

[RY4N]-I... guess I'm praying for the old memories to come back. The times when we were happy and had no worries. Don't you miss them as well?

Yet CHE5TER doesn't respond though. He just looks at His brother watching the statue, as His thoughts are starting killing Him bit by bit. It doesn't take long before He gets lost in them, as He then looks at the ground without adding any other word.

The Underground Tunnels

Now, RY4N seems to be walking in the tunnels alongside someone else, as they try to go to one of the entrances of the City of Above. Of course, the area being supervised now, they meet up with the members of the Northwest Base for a verification.

[DU5AN]-Hm? Oh, Master RY4N! Good day!

[RY4N]-Good day, Mr. DU5AN!

[DU5AN]-I guess that you have work around the above at this time of day? Master N3MES1O said that it will be a meeting in a few hours. Don't you need to stay in the city until the meeting ends?

[RY4N]-Yeah, I know. Do not worry about that. I'm just going in the City of Above for a while and come back in time.

[DU5AN]-Alright then. You do you. Look, show me the documents and I won't bother you anymore.

[RY4N]-You don't bother me, DU5AN. You only do your work here. I'm present at the meetings, you know? I'm aware of the work of the other bases.

So, RY4N gives the man the documents, while he looks around them for a few minutes. He looks at his ID card, military documents and the entrance permission. As he finishes, he hands over the documents to RY4N and starts talking again.

[DU5AN]-Yep, everything good as always. You can enter, Master RY4N.

Then the man looks at the other guy standing besides RY4N, waiting for the documents. He nods as a greeting at the guy as he speaks.

[DU5AN]-Mr. BENJ4M1N.

...And the other guy nods back, but without saying a word. Again, he looks at the documents carefully and hands them over when he is done.

[DU5AN]-Alright, everything seems good.

["BENJ4M1N"]-It's not like I'm going to ever scam you, Mr. DU5AN.

[DU5AN]-I know, buddy, but these are the rules now. I don't like staying here all day and verify the military members when I already know most of them are trustworthy. Just yesterday we've encountered a guy with fake military documents trying to enter the city. We cannot risk again.

["BENJ4M1N"]-I was just saying. I know the problems already. And why would you trust everybody from the military so easily now? You know even the military doesn't have access to the city without the documents that specify the mission, just like these. Without the approval of the Great Leader, the documents aren't even made in the first place.

[DU5AN]-So what? Hehe... You're saying that I should not trust you anymore?

["BENJ4M1N"]-I mean, who says that you can trust me?

[DU5AN]-Well, in that case, you probably won't bother if I just took you to the cells just 'cause you told me, right?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Hahahah... Oh, I forgot you like to take the jokes a bit too far.

[DU5AN]-I'm just kidding, Ben. Go, do you mission, you both. Say to the Great Leader that Master N3MES1O is greeting Him when you are coming back.

They make a small bow, before RY4N and the guy start walking away towards the entrance. But DU5AN speak for one last time before they vanish.

[DU5AN]-Oh, and just a small warning! The M military is really active now. If anything, try to avoid the crowds. They make some verifications when they see a lot of people together. If you want to be sure, hope you have some fake documents with you to save your butts.

["BENJ4M1N"]-Don't worry about that. We thought about this problem in advance.

[RY4N]-We will be just fine, Mr. DU5AN.

[DU5AN]-Alright then. Take care and good luck!

And so, they finally leave, just for them to talk to each other again once they know nobody can hear them.

[RY4N]-Huh... So you still use this part of disguise to wander around?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Who said that I don't use it anymore?

[RY4N]-Just saying. I didn't see you use it in a long time.

["BENJ4M1N"]-I just don't use it that much in our city since it's not necessary. The crevaator clothes are a good disguise themselves there as everybody avoids them. But I still use it in the City of Above. How do you think I can walk around the streets without people noticing that I'm a C born?

[RY4N]-If we are still on this subject, are you sure this won't get us in trouble?

["BENJ4M1N"]-RY4N, I told you. The ID cards that we have are effective just enough for us to not get caught. I did this many times before and it worked for me.

[RY4N]-So I don't need a disguise, you say?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Nope. You are an R born. You have nothing to hide. You only need an ID card just in case of a verification.

[RY4N]-If you say so, Ches... So, where are we going anyway?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Hm?

[RY4N]-Where are we going after we enter the city?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Oh. Well... I don't know.

[RY4N]-Really, man?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Look, I'm not used to take anybody with me during the missions. To be honest, I didn't even plan something right now. I just thought if we go around the city, I will think of an idea.

[RY4N]-What about the problem you talked about with the crevaator?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Don't worry about that one. I just wanted a small message to arrive at a person. More than that, there's nothing to do. That's why I put the crevaator in the first place. Why should I go on my own for such a simple task?

[RY4N]-So we are just wandering around the city for now?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Yeah, something like that. I know a few places if you are interesting in something in particular.

[RY4N]-Of course you do...

["BENJ4M1N"]-Hm?

[RY4N]-...Nothing, just a thought.

["BENJ4M1N"]-Very well then. So? You have a plan in mind for now?

[RY4N]-I guess we can climb a building and watch the view.

["BENJ4M1N"]-Uhh... Not sure about that one though...

[RY4N]-Why so?

["BENJ4M1N"]-It will be a bit suspicious for two random men to stand on one of their buildings just to "watch the view", don't you think?

[RY4N]-Then, do you have any other idea?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Let's just wander around for now until we think of a better one, alright? Why are you in such a rush? We have time until the meeting comes.

It doesn't take long before they manage to go above, more exactly they end up in an abandoned apartment from which they leave and go around the city. Probably these are the entrances, well hidden so that no being can find them. They walk for a while, ending up just chatting until they find an idea.

["BENJ4M1N"]-What do you mean?

[RY4N]-I'm just trying to start a conversation, no need of you to be so cold now.

But before RY4N can finish his sentence, CHE5TER doesn't pay attention to him anymore. His attention gets attracted by two soldiers of the M, on their right side, talking to each other.

["BENJ4M1N"]-Hm? Oh, no, I'm not.

[RY4N]-*sigh* At least you are honest...

["BENJ4M1N"]-RY4N, follow me and do as I say.

[RY4N]-What? Why?

So, CHE5TER starts going towards the soldiers, while RY4N only follows up. But He doesn't try to approach them so He can talk, more like He tries to keep the distance while also being able to hear what they are saying.

[MSoldier2]-Then what? You heard the General's words! He wants it to be done as soon as possible! If we keep him waiting, I'm sure he will get mad at some point!

As they listen, CHE5TER tries to make it less obvious that they are trying to hear the conversation, so He pulls out two cigarettes and gives one to RY4N, so both of them start smoking again. Seems like they are besides a building's walls, near the soldiers' location, so that the soldiers won't get annoyed by them and leave.

[MSoldier2]-I don't know, pay more the researchers? Maybe they will work faster.

[MSoldier1]-We barely have money for ourselves, man. We won't have enough for those bastards if we really try to briber them.

[MSoldier2]-Then, if the General gets mad at us, I put the blame on you that we don't have what he had requested.

[MSoldier1]-If you ask me, I don't give a shit about all of this. It's just a bunch of nonsense. So put the blame on me if you truly want that.

[MSoldier2]-Oh, so you go off General's words now?

...And yet, He makes His brother shut up quickly enough for Him to continue listening.

[MSoldier1]-...What does he intend to do with it? Is he thinking that we can get rid of the current problem with it?

[MSoldier2]-I don't think so... From what I saw, it's hard to even aim with it anyway. I don't think it will fit for this. Maybe he intends to demolish the walls and create something new against it?

[MSoldier1]-But even so... it will take a lot of time until we build something else. It simply doesn't make sense...

[MSoldier2]-*sigh* I guess we will find out when he will inform us about his plan in the end.

[MSoldier1]-Right... We waited a lot for that information though, who says we won't wait for even more?

[MSoldier2]-I don't know, but I really want to see what's up with the weapon. I saw when the researchers tested it after all and it's simply amazing the power it has! CHE5TER stops listening and get a bit lost in His thoughts.

And as they talk, another soldier approaches them as he got some suspicions on them.

["BENJ4M1N"]-Oh, we were just taking a small breath before we go back to our place. Anything wrong, Soldier?

The ruler give the man His documents, as the soldier looks through them while CHE5TER continues.

["BENJ4M1N"]-I believe we met many times before, right, Mr. ZAF4R? You sure know well enough that I wouldn't try to trick you so easily. So why don't you trust me?

[ZAF4R]-Just... cut it! I don't have time for your bullshit right now.

["BENJ4M1N"]-Why are you so cold? I'm just telling you what's obvious, am I not? After all, you know already that I'm registered in the data and the soldiers have all the information about me.

RY4N looks in shock at his brother as He says these words though. He never knew this information before after all. Maybe it's a new information for everyone else. But the soldier gives the card back and looks at RY4N this time.

[ZAF4R]-Yeah, yeah. I know you like to get drunk and shit talk with everyone already. No need of doing it with me as well. Now, if you let me do my work, I would like to see your comrade's documents.

["BENJ4M1N"]-I wouldn't dare to not let you do your work, Soldier. You speak nonsense.

He looks a bit annoyed this time, so RY4N does as he says, a bit unsure of what to do. He gives him the documents and waits for him to look through it. But the guy doesn't really seem pleased, as if something seems wrong.

[ZAF4R]-Say, Mr. RY4N... From which part of the city are you?

[RY4N]-I-I--

["BENJ4M1N"]- --Oh, he is from the same part as me.

[ZAF4R]-Really?

["BENJ4M1N"]-Of course. After all, he is staying with me in the same apartment. Who do you think stood and took care of me back then?

CHE5TER gives him a death stare, but still smiling as He doesn't seem to stop playing His role yet. But in a moment of silence and hope for His plan to succeed, their salvation comes as Officer DU5TIN makes his way towards them.

[DU5TIN]-ZAF4R! Didn't I tell you to go check on the supplies?

[ZAF4R]-O-Oh, yes! Right! Apologies, Officer DU5TIN! I was just checking on these two quickly before I go back to my task!

But as he looks, DU5TIN seems to be in shock seeing RY4N here out of nowhere. Almost as if he saw a ghost. Even RY4N is surprised, yet CHE5TER just smiles with such an emotionless expression. Then, after DU5TIN stops from staring at RY4N, he looks at the so-called "Mr. BENJ4M1N" with a rather... confused expression.

[ZAF4R]-I will go back on my task immediately, but I have one question.

[DU5TIN]-...Hm? O-Oh, right. What is it?

[ZAF4R]-Do you know anything about Mr. RY4N here? Have you ever seen him around?

CHE5TER just gives him a stare that could scare the hell out of you, only for DU5TIN to just look and respond.

[DU5TIN]-...Affirmative.

[ZAF4R]-Huh!?

[DU5TIN]-I know Mr. RY4N myself. He is alright, no need to check on him.

["BENJ4M1N"]-See, Mr. ZAF4R? I'm always right. Now, if you excuse me, I have a meeting with my couch. I would like to talk with you more, but I feel like I have to rest now.

[ZAF4R]-*sigh* Alright. I'm sorry for not trusting you both. Have a good rest, Mr. BENJ4M1N.

So, as CHE5TER starts leaving, RY4N just follows Him, only for him to be dragged by the soldier so he could whisper something to his ear.

[ZAF4R]-...If you ever want to take a break from him, just tell me. I know how much of a pain he is. I can arrange something. Alright, buddy?

RY4N nods affirmatively, playing his part of the role, before he starts walking again. But neither RY4N nor DU5TIN can stop staring at each other as they walk away on opposite directions. Yet RY4N doesn't take long before he wakes up to reality and tries to find the answers to a lot of questions.

[RY4N]-W... What was this all about!? How did you do that??

["BENJ4M1N"]-I know how to play roles pretty well, don't I? I saved your ass back there as well. After all, you are such a bad liar...

[RY4N]-Yeah, b-but, but... wasn't that--

DU5TIN looks in disgust at CHE5TER, even mad, yet the ruler seems so serious now. Even he doesn't understand this feeling that he sees on this face.

[CHE5TER]-...Look. You can try and kill me however you want, whenever you want. I wouldn't care about this anyway. But we should let RY4N out of this battle of ours. We are the sinners here, he is just a victim of the war. He did nothing wrong to deserve such a cruel destiny. Hate me as much as you want, kill me with my own blade! ...But let my brother live, alright?

Yet the hate in DU5TIN's eyes turns into pity, looking at CHE5TER being lost in His own thoughts again. It's a sign of guilt this time, no more games.

[DU5TIN]-...Alright then. I will do as you said. But just because I feel sorry for him as well. I do not give a shit about your begging, nor about you.

[CHE5TER]-Heh...

CHE5TER looks at him dead in the eyes, with that emotionless expression again, before He speaks once more.

[CHE5TER]-...Thank you, Brother."

The Underground City

When they get back to their city, they walk around towards the base this time. CHE5TER seems to have changed in His crevaator clothes already, yet RY4N is still a bit confused about what happened.

[RY4N]-Sooo... Are you going to explain what happened now?

[CHE5TER]-Why the rush?

[RY4N]-*sigh* You are such a secretive person, Ches... I wonder who made you this way.

[CHE5TER]-*chuckles* And what's wrong with that?

[RY4N]-At least tell me, what was that data things about? Did you really managed to get registered in their data?

[CHE5TER]-Yeah. Can't believe it or what?

[RY4N]-Yeah, I mean... How did you do that anyway? Don't they need to take a drop of your blood to be registered? If anything, they could've seen already that you a part of their Officer's code line.

[CHE5TER]-It was pretty easy, actually. Remember Mr. A4RU?

[RY4N]-Didn't he die years ago? What about him?

[CHE5TER]-Heh... A bit... After he died, I managed to take a small vessel full of his blood to fulfil his last wish in the future, not long before I cremated his body myself. But I'm afraid that he will still have to wait until the peace is established. In the end, I took this opportunity of him being an R born and put two drops of his blood in a fake finger to register myself in the data as soon as possible, knowing how much work I have around the City of Above.

[RY4N]-So he managed to serve you even after his death, huh?

[CHE5TER]-Yeah... And after that, I had to explain why I didn't get registered until that day and had to think of something quickly. So I simply said that I am ill and need to stay home to rest. They did check some days to see if I'm telling the truth and managed to trick them just enough for them to leave me alone. But I don't think they will check on you as well. I annoyed them for good, so they won't even bother themselves to see me again at my "home". But we will have to do something with your registration since now they are aware of you.

And so, they continue walking, as they chat so they can kill the time. Yet at some point, CHE5TER hears His name being called from one of the buildings nearby.

...It's the little crevaator again, whispering to Him so He can come alone and see what he wants. When the Great Leader notices him, He just tells one more thing to His brother before He leaves him.

[CHE5TER]-...Hey, RY4N, I will see you later, alright? I have something quick to do.

[RY4N]-Are you sneaking off again?

[CHE5TER]-No, no. I will come back soon. I just have to do a small thing and then I go back to my papers as I said.

[RY4N]-*sigh* Alright. It's not like you are going to listen to me no matter what I say anyway.

[CHE5TER]-Hmph. I will see you after your meeting, alright?

[RY4N]-Alright.

In the end, he waves at Him as a goodbye and leaves, yet CHE5TER remains behind, looking at His brother leaving.

[CHE5TER]-...You can come out now.

So, the crevaator listens, as he comes to Him quickly in order to tell Him what he wants.

[CHE5TER]-Alright. Tell me what you want. Quick!

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-J-Just a few things and I leave! I promise!

[CHE5TER]-Okay. Did you do as I said?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Y-Yes, yes! But--

[CHE5TER]- --Did he tell you his answer? Or did he delayed it?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-L-Look... There has been a problem with the thing you've requested, Master.

[CHE5TER]-A problem?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Yes! He said he won't be able to do the sabotage as you wished at all because of a problem with the Great Walls.

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-H-He said something about the demons wandering around the walls of the city too frequently. He fears that this might get us all in trouble if we do the sabotage now.

[CHE5TER]-...The demons are back? But I thought the M soldiers got rid of them years ago. Why are they back?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-I-I don't know, but 0ZUL says that he doesn't want to risk with stopping the power and letting the demons enter the city so that--

[CHE5TER]- --they won't find our city as well... With the instincts of a demon, they can find the Underground City in no time and kill anybody here with their own limbs, without the need of the Ynash'saveghtah Gas... What about the M soldiers? What are they planning to do with this problem?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-I-I'm afraid that I don't know anything. 0ZUL also says that the problem is still under investigations. They intend to find something to get rid of them again, but they have to discuss further.

[CHE5TER]-So this is the problem they've been talking about...

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Hm?

[CHE5TER]-Nothing. You are free to go. If anything, you can try to speak again with Mr. 0ZUL and tell him to investigate the problem as well. The demons are a common enemy for us and the M soldiers. We need to get rid of them if we don't want to go extinct.

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Alright! I will do as you said!

So, the crevaator leaves, only for the Great Leader to stay and think further about the problem.

"...Why are they back again? Do they really want to kill us all? If so, why did they leave years ago?"

He looks at the ceiling of the city now, being lost in His thoughts again.

"If anything, they will only cause trouble. Maybe if we find how they can cut in flesh without the gas, we can find a way to protect ourselves from them for once and for all. But until then... they will only cause me problems with my plans. Great time for them to reappear, I swear..."

Yet the crevaator seems as if he came back while He was thinking, talking with Him one more time.

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-O-Oh, Master! I almost forgot!

[CHE5TER]-What is it?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-While I was talking to Mr. 0ZUL, a woman came to us as she heard the conversation and--

[CHE5TER]- --You've been exposed?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-N-No, no. I mean, I think not... But the woman was simply trying to advertise one of the clubs nearby. We refused the things she offered us, yet she insisted on giving me one saying "This is for your friend that's not present with us at the moment. I am sure that Young Master LENKOV wouldn't mind if someone stole His time for a bit. I do hope you will inform Him about our conversation, right?"

[CHE5TER]-Is that so? What did she give you for me?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-Umm... One moment...

The crevaator searches for some seconds for whatever he got, only for him to find it in the end show it to the ruler.

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-This. This is the thing.

He hands it over to the Great Leader then, so He starts analysing it. Seems like a small advertise card for a strip club, so no wonder He got a bit confused at first when He knows that the woman knows Him.

[CHE5TER]-...You're joking, right?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-N-No, no! I'm serious! I swear, I-I'm not joking with you! S-She gave me this for you!

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* Okay, so? Is that all? She didn't tell you anything more?

[RA4V'SZEFNAGH]-U-Umm... Yeah, that's all. Nothing more. She just said that thing and emphasised the word "steal".

He stops for a bit to think, then ends the conversation right away.

[CHE5TER]-I see... Alright then. I will keep that in mind. You can go now.

And the crevaator leaves again, this time for good, as the Leader stays to stare at the advertise card.

RY4N just got back from the meeting, a bit tired because of the constant chaos without the Great Leader present there. He walks around for a bit, as he seems to meet up with some of the members on his way. After all, LUK3 was waiting for KYR4 to come back as always.

[LUK3]-KYR4!! KYR4!!!

[KYR4]-*sigh* Not again...

[RY4N]-He sure likes to be around you, Officer.

[KYR4]-Oh, shut up.

He finally manages to get close, as he takes KYR4 in his arms. She seems to be very annoyed at this point, but there's nothing she can do.

[KYR4]-Let go already! LUK3!!

[LUK3]-Nuh-uhhh!

She struggles a bit to escape, until she just gives up and takes a huge breath.

[RY4N]-So... are you ready for the mission of today?

[KYR4]-RY4N, I swear, one more word and I smack your ass. I don't even care if the Great Leader will find out.

[RY4N]-I just asked.

[KYR4]-Mhm...

[RY4N]-Hey, LUK3. Where is little N04H?

He finally lets go of her in the end with a smile, yet she doesn't give a damn. She just thanks him in disgrace.

[RY4N]-It's related to the General's plans. CHE5TER wants to take the documents that reveal all of these things we've feared. If anything, most likely it will be hard for us to get our hands on them, but it's his decision, not ours.

[KYR4]-Tough day today, huh... I'm surprised you are okay with this plan actually. Won't it mean for Him to enter and take the documents? And, you know... since these are the documents related to the General's plans, they will be supervised at all costs?

[CHE5TER]-I just thought that you won't like to stay and work with papers for a long time, so you wouldn't even bother yourself coming.

[RY4N]-Actually... I've came here to discuss with you about something that bothers me.

[CHE5TER]-...Oh, nothing. It's just funny for me every time you try to defend your arguments. You just bring this excuse every single day, don't you know any other ones?

[RY4N]-So? Isn't it true though?

[CHE5TER]-Maybe. I don't know. Still, even as my brother, you have no authority against me. I am the Great Leader, the ruler Himself of this city. Probably the only one who had higher level than me was our father. Nobody else.

There is a small moment of silence between them. Of course RY4N knows the difference between their titles and he cannot really say anything against His words, but he is still a bit annoyed by this long lasting problem. Yet, CHE5TER decides to speak again.

[CHE5TER]-But... I guess I have good news for you.

[RY4N]-Good news...?

[CHE5TER]-Indeed. It wasn't necessary for you to beg me anyway, 'cause I've already decided to not try this idea anymore. You were lucky this time.

[RY4N]-Really? Strange choice of yours... I don't remember the last time we've agreed on a subject. What made you change your mind all of a sudden?

[CHE5TER]-Simply the idea that I encountered a small problem with the plan. That's all.

[RY4N]-Problem?

[CHE5TER]-You see... remember when you saw me discussing with the crevaator and told you about his mission for me?

[RY4N]-Yeah...?

[CHE5TER]-Well... seems like he encountered a small difficulty in my plan. He informed the guy that I told him about and everything, but there is a tiny investigation on a new problem around the City of Above that destroys everything. More exactly... seems like the thing the soldiers were talking about wasn't about the money as I thought at first, more like the creatures from the outside of the walls.

RY4N looks a bit in fear at CHE5TER, before he speaks again.

[RY4N]-...The demons came back?

[CHE5TER]-Apparently...

[RY4N]-Not these things again... We had problems with them years ago as well! Why did they come back!?

[CHE5TER]-Who knows... They are unknown to us till this very day. We know very little information about them. Even the M soldiers, who live near them, don't know much about these creatures. Last time they left was because they are scared of the light of the walls, it getting brighter each ten years because of the power gained. But now all of sudden they try to enter even with the lights on. It's strange for them to fight against their only threat just to get to us. Like they are looking for something...

[RY4N]-What about the supplies? The EZR4H Clan is suppose to take even more from the outside in the next few days! They will get devoured in no time, no matter the equipment they use!

[CHE5TER]-*sigh* I know. We have to stop the missions from the outside for now and rely on whatever we have at the moment. It won't be easy at all...

The more He speaks, the more He realises how much troubles this will cause around the city, not to mention the work He will be obligated to do because of it. Even RY4N realises that He isn't happy about this subject.

[RY4N]-Alright... As much as I like that I won this time, I don't think it's the best time to celebrate. Let's change the subject now.

[CHE5TER]-Heh... Then what's on your mind?

[RY4N]-How about I help you with the papers as I said earlier? Can't be that hard, can it?

[CHE5TER]-Not hard, but boring indeed.

So, RY4N comes closer to Him, taking a seat and looking around the desk. CHE5TER just gives him half of the papers, as well as something to stamp them with the official seal of approval from the Great Leader. While he stamps them, CHE5TER looks at the other half of documents that weren't signed to make sure it is legit, puts His signature on them, or, well... more exactly His father's old signature which He has learnt to do over the years, and hands them over to His brother to do his part. It's not complicated, it's just a bit too much to handle alone.

[CHE5TER]-Say... Why did you want to help me so badly with these papers anyway? It's probably the only thing I can do without you worrying all the time.

[RY4N]-Well... you aren't the only one who made promises, remember?

[CHE5TER]-So that's all about...

[RY4N]-I guess. But you know that we used to say "whoever breaks a promise will go eat a demon".

[CHE5TER]-Right... I wonder who created this proverb anyway.

[RY4N]-Why does it matter?

[CHE5TER]-It just sounds funny to me. That's all. Don't you think that as well?

[RY4N]-A bit.

Minutes later, CHE5TER took a small break, as He looks at a photo that stays on His desk for a while. It doesn't take long before RY4N notices that as well.

[RY4N]-...Hey, Ches?

[CHE5TER]-Hm?

[RY4N]-Maybe you don't like it, but I will still try to keep my word. That's why I might be a bit too annoying for you and all. You know this already. No matter what happens...

He stops looking at the photo and stares at RY4N, who is talking to Him now. Yet the photo is so beautiful, even if we've seen it before. Two lively kids, standing next to the one that took care of them and died years ago. Maybe they're still trying to forget the past, the reason behind their quarrels, but it's painful to simply let go of those beautiful memories.
