{ Eliza }
✧✦✧
"𝕬lton Lannister has returned." Eliza looked up at her brother's words, finding him hovering in the doorway of her tent. "Your husband has called the council in."
"Well, then you should attend that meeting at once." Eliza read through the next letter, stroking Greywind's large head as the direwolf settled in her lap. "I am sure it shall be most riveting."
"You know that means he wishes for you to be there."
"He does not." Eliza shook her head, taking a deep breath. "Have a good council meeting, Anceron."
Her brother's nose scrunched, a huff leaving his mouth as he left the tent. Eliza was not feeling as if she should attend the council meeting, not quite being in the mood for it. She was also still upset that, when she had taken Lady Catelyn to find her son, Robb had been speaking with Talisa, the nurse. She had not told her husband that it had annoyed her, for she did not know whether it was her place, but Anceron was growing fed up of it all.
The tent went quiet once more, as Greywind curled further into Eliza's side, warming her feet as the woman began to pen another letter to her sister-by-law, who was manning Faymont whilst Perseus and Cayden marched to Winterfell.
"Eliza..." There was a very soft call of her name, and the woman looked up, expecting to find Anceron back to drag her to the council meeting. Instead, she was met with Robb's face. Her husband's eyebrow was raised, a questioning look on his face. "Are you not coming to the meeting?"
"I did not know if you would want me there." Eliza stammered, surprised that he was asking her to go. She stood quickly and smoothed her dark dress, displacing Greywind's head from her lap. The large direwolf huffed, and stood with a growl, shaking his fur out.
"I value your opinion, and you are my wife. I would much prefer to have you there, unless you do not want to attend?" Robb's words came out mildly panicked, which in turn made Eliza grow anxious, her head snapping up to watch the man. The young king stumbled over his words, before sighing and holding his hand out to her. "Your opinion is always good."
Eliza did not know how to respond to that, merely accepting the young king's hand as he led her to the council room.
The council room was actually just a tent with a large table and chair set in it for all of Robb's council to sit. Most had designated seats, and it had become common for Eliza to sit on Robb's right, Greywind by her side, with her brother on her right. Around the rest of the table were other lords like Lord Glover, Lord Umber, Lord Karstark and Roose Bolton, who Eliza refused to address as lord, for she felt that there was still something dreadfully off about him.
She smoothed her dress out so that it sat around her better, sitting down as the others bowed towards her and her husband.
As soon as they entered, Alton Lannister, who looked a little better taken care of, began to speak, talking about the peace terms that they had sent earlier. Eliza admitted, that she was not truly paying attention to it all, for she had already guessed what Cersei's answer would be.
"And what did she say?" Robb's voice sounded to her left, and Eliza turned to look at her husband, who was smiling albeit incredulously.
"She admired your spirit, Your Grace." Ser Alton barely dared look up, glancing between Robb and the floor.
"And what then?" Robb pushed.
"She, uh..." The man trailed off, and Eliza knew that whatever Cersei had done was weighing heavily on Ser Alton's thoughts.
"If every man were held accountable for the actions of every distant relative, Ser Alton, we'd all hang." Robb prompted, growing impatient with the information that Ser Alton was holding back.
"She tore the paper in half, Your Grace."
Eliza shook her head, huffing.
"You've acted with honour." Robb placated, before turning. "I thank you for it. Lord Karstark, see that Ser Alton's pen is clean, and give him a hot supper."
"Ser Alton's pen is occupied, Your Grace." Lord Karstark spoke up. "The prisoners from the Yellow Fork."
"Too many prisoners." Eliza's jaw clenched at Roose's words.
"Is there room for Ser Alton?" Robb also ignored the other man's words.
"Does he need to lie down?" Lord Karstark spoke up, as Eliza sighed.
"Have the men build him a new pen. Put him in with the Kingslayer for now." Robb ordered. "Have your boy watch over them."
"Torrhen." The man at the back of the tent stepped forward, pulling Ser Alton out and Eliza's stomach sank. Something felt off.
"That will be all." Robb followed that order up with another, waving his council off as Eliza grabbed onto Anceron's sleeve.
"Liz?"
"Stay with Ser Alton." Eliza muttered. "Stay with him. Something is not right, and I do not wish for us to lose a valuable prisoner because of it."
"You know best." Anceron kissed his sister's head, trusting her word above all else as he stalked off after the younger Karstark.
"Your Grace, a minute of your time?" Eliza froze, twisting to stare at the nurse who was hovering in the entrance way of the tent, dressed in a blood stained apron and wiping her hand on a rag. Greywind nudged the young queen, who was not normally a jealous woman, especially over someone that she was not all that close to, but something about this particular woman was grating on Eliza's every nerve.
Whenever she turned, she found her husband talking to the woman, or the woman appearing from no where to speak with him. Eliza had a poor feeling about her, and she did not like it.
"I've been treating your wounded men." Talisa eyed up Eliza, who's face was now set in a deep frown. The woman was staring at the map, wishing that it would burn in front of her, as she tried not to let on how upset this woman was making her.
"And my enemies, as some of my bannermen are fond of mentioning."
"They're not my enemies."
"That's what I tell my bannermen." Robb almost sounded as if he were joking with the woman, causing Eliza to tighten her hands into fists beneath the table. Greywind huffed, nudging her gently, as she began to stroke the large wolf's fur.
"I've already run through the supplies I brought with me. Some are easily replaced. Egg yolks, turpentine, oil of roses."
"But some are not." Eliza knew that she and Robb had been married because both of them had to be married off for advantageous reasons and not for love, but they were married now. She dreaded to think what would happen should he think of straying for love, and how could Eliza blame him. She had wished to marry for love, but she knew her place and her duty. She married to better herself and her house, which was her job.
"I need silk for stitching."
A hand fell on Eliza's shoulders, drawing her out of her thoughts. Tilting her head, she could see Robb's dark cloak as he stood next to her, listening to Talisa's thoughts.
"I need fennel root for those with fever, willow bark. Mostly I need milk of the poppy." Eliza took a deep breath, turning to stare at the other woman. "You saw what it was like to amputate a foot without any. I assume there will be more loss of limb before this war is over."
"If you need help finding these-"
"I know where to find them." The tent went silent, and Eliza hated the stifling feeling of it all. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't interrupt you."
"Continue, my lady."
"You're riding to the Crag to negotiate a surrender?" That was their next plan of action, to ride to the seat of House Westerling, to add more soldiers to their army and cut off more areas of support for Tywin Lannister.
"We are."
"The Crag will have a maester and he will have what I need." Talisa continued, as Eliza grew fed up of the conversation, patting Greywind as she got ready to leave.
"I expect he will."
"If I could write a list-"
"Come with me to the Crag." Eliza froze, every bone in her body vibrating with anger as she tensed. Greywind took note of her distress, standing and growling lowly.
"I don't think that will be..."
"Let the maester show you his stores. I want the wounded men to be treated well," Robb replied, not sensing the anger that was now filling the room as his wife silently fumed beneath his touch. "All of the wounded men, and I do not trust myself with remembering all of what you need."
✧✦✧
Eliza said nothing until they were in the safety of their tent, glaring daggers at her husband's curls, though he seemed oblivious to it.
"Why did you invite Talisa to travel with us to the Crag?" Eliza did not want an argument, least of all with Robb, and she disliked confrontation, but this was too much.
"To get the medicine to heal our wounded." Robb turned, staring at the woman with furrowed eyebrows.
"Could you not ask the head nurse to go? Why Lady Talisa?"
"She was the one who came and asked me."
"Do you understand how this looks?" Eliza hissed beneath her breath, finally meeting Robb's eyes. "You invite a nurse that you have showed special interest in, to come to a negotiation for terms of surrender? Do you not see how this looks to the outside?"
Robb's eyes narrowed, before he closed the distance between the pair.
"Eliza, I am not trying to cause any problems. I merely did not wish to be having to remember a list to give to the maesters when there is someone more capable to remember it." Eliza turned away, still not liking this. It did not sit well with her. It felt like it was done to scorn her.
A finger under her chin pulled her head back to look at him, as Robb's eyebrow cocked.
"I do not like it." Eliza muttered, as Greywind huffed in agreement. "I do not like her."
"Is this the famous intuition of yours?"
"Yes." Eliza sighed, as Robb leant to press a swift kiss to her cheek. Despite everything, Eliza blushed, as Robb grinned.
"It means nothing, Eliza. I swear that to you."
Hiya,
So, Eliza just does not like Talisa or Roose, because she feels like something's off and Eliza's not normally wrong. Her and Anceron are a good sibling vibe, and also, Robb is just clueless pretty much to Eliza being jealous because she refuses to say anything.
Let me know what you think,
Love Li xx
